The music (entitled "Close Your Eyes") playing at the very end of Becoming Pt 2 is very pretty. It starts right when Angel's soul has been restored and ends just when Sarah Mclaughlin's Full of Grace starts up. It is on one of the Buffy CDs. I was just wondering if anyone else liked it.

I like it. It's a very good song, very sad though. I think it portrayed the feelings of both characters very well for just being background music.

"Close Your Eyes" by the awesome and talented Christophe Beck, is among my fave musical pieces from that show. Very beautifully done.

I like how it is the soft piano of Buffy and Angel's kiss and then the big and climactic crecsendo of Buffy stabbing Angel. Chris Beck composed this wonderfully, IMO.

Oooh - how that played at the end of Tabula Rasa was so nice. I was comparing this to the pieces from Hush, Restless, and The Gift. Especially The Gift. That same bittersweet piano. Branch's was very nice too.

That song "Close your Eyes" is pretty much what plays during the entire Bangel relationship in season 2.

This is the ONLY think that I like about their relationship. That song. It gives me goosebumps. I love it!

Yup... it was. I remember I was listening to it in P.E. Class and my friend wanted to listen to (since she didn't know what it was) and my player was on full volume (don't ask why) and she got as soon as it got louder. Oops.

But, I love that song... very beautiful.

I love 'Close Your Eyes.' Like SpikedBuffy said, this was Buffy and Angel's theme song all the way through their relationship. And I really miss it :( I was so glad that they played it at Joyce's funeral when they kissed. I was a little dissappointed that it wasn't played in Chosen though.

I love the song! Christopher Beck who composed it is really talented!
I think it is just such a pretty piece of music, but it makes me cry, it has to be one of those sensory memory things, because as soon as I hear the tune in any way, I immediatly either start "welling up" or I start madly jumping around and squeal "The Buffy and Angel theme!!" but yeah, I love the music! and it fit so well with the theme of the scene in that particular episode (and all of the others which it can be heard in)

I always used to call it the Buffy/Angel theme, then when I realized it was called Close Your Eyes, I had an epiphany.

Isn't that what Buffy says to Angel just before she kills him? - "Close your eyes". It gave me shudders when I connected those dots.

Also, I'm not sure about this, but doesn't Close Your Eyes have the distinction of being the only piece of music that made the transition from Buffy to Angel. I think Magui's right. I think there's an altered version of the piece in I Will Remember You.

such a good song, like everyone says. Yeah, I always thought it was just "Buffy and Angel Love Theme" too -- actually it says that on the CD "Close Your Eyes -- Buffy and Angel Love Theme by Christophe Beck".... I think? I can't really remember! Anyway, beautiful and sad, it really is.... Perfect for Buffy/Angel's relationship, because it's kind of steady and simple in the beginning, and then it gets a little more dramatic, then more dramatic, and then that really loud part (representing the Upset of All Things) and then it sort of dies down.

I liked checking out this topic because it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to see some fellow B/A fans! sans B/S. There NEEDS to be a topic where we can bash each other and get all that tension out, though!

Oh, yeah, one last thing; anyone interested in the piano sheet music?? Tell me and I'll email you the url. There's other sheet music, too, like The Sacrifice from "The Gift" and, I think, Buffy and Riley's Love Theme... But who would want THAT?

I think its been played alot, even after.

The song did fit perfectly with the greatest love in the Buffyverse and then Buffy making a huge decision, but she had to :lsvader:

lyrics to "Full of Grace":

The winter here's cold, and bitter
it's chilled us to the bone
we haven't seen the sun for weeks
to long too far from home
I feel just like I'm sinking
and I claw for solid ground
I'm pulled down by the undertow
I never thought I could feel so low
oh darkness I feel like letting go

If all of the strength and all of the courage
come and lift me from this place
I know I could love you much better than this
full of grace
full of grace
my love

So it's better this way, I said
having seen this place before
where everything we said and did
hurts us all the more
its just that we stayed, too long
in the same old sickly skin
I'm pulled down by the undertow
I never thought I could feel so low
oh darkness I feel like letting go

If all of the strength
and all of the courage
come and lift me from this place
I know I could love you much better than this
full of grace
full of grace
my love

They've always done a kick a** job on the music for Buffy.
The soundtrack to the musical is cool, on the end there's
the music from the HUSH ep and the music during her dream
sequence from the last ep of season 4.

Here's an interesting trivia question, I think.

When's the first time we hear Close Your Eyes.

I'm not sure, but I think I just heard it in Bad Eggs, when Buffy and Angel are smooching at her bedroom window.

Would the last time be I Will Remember You in Angel. There's a variation of it there too, isn't there?

elmo
10-01-2004, 03:19 AM
I think so, it's their theme so it wouldn't be surprising if it turned up everytime they had a slushy moment together. Whether it be a variation or the original version. You know how the Empire in Star Wars has it's own music and everytime you see a scene to do with the Empire that music comes on? It's kinda like that.

"close your eyes" truly is beautiful, there is very little to compare to it. it has so much in it, so much emotion, and it really does reflect the b/a reelationship in the most perfect manner. chris beck is a genius as he's brought buffy wonderful scores, i listen to them for hours sometimes, but "chose your eyes" tops everything on my scale. it's my favorite score on buffy, followed by the "chosen" score.

I tend to love the musical pieces within Buffy. I mean, I loved the Once More, With Feeling songs but I love the music within the episodes.

I loved Close Your Eyes, it was sad but it was beautifully done, superb job done there.

I also loved the one from The Gift...when she stares off the edge of the tower and sees the sun, gets the flashbacks and understands what she must do. How it continues until the very ending of the episode, I loved that.

I can't say which one I loved better, however.

Hey, does anybody know what the song from The Gift was, I just think it's beautifully done and it's a must have for me.

Extra Bit of Info: I love how that piano from the gift is in the season 6 scene selections...sometimes, I just leave it on that so I can listen! Hehe.

I like it. It's a very good song, very sad though. I think it portrayed the feelings of both characters very well for just being background music.
Musical score is NOT just background music. Sorry, I get very passionate about movie and TV scores. I much prefer them to the dreary songs that end up being used in some silly fashion.

I think "Clsoe Your Eyes" is a fine love theme, but when you just listen, it's the taddest bit overblown when the full synth orchestra comes in. But then you watch the episode and it works so well in context. It's a nice surprise to hear the theme when Angel returns for his cameo in Season 5, but it's missed in "Chosen". It's a pity Rob Duncan didn't use it.

Has anyone else noticed that Chris Beck replaced their love theme in Season 3? It can be heard in "One Last Look" as Angel leaves Sunnydale. I think I prefer it to "CYE". It's less over-the-top.

i love this piece of music 'Close your eyes' i think Christophe Beck is a really good composer and has done some really good music for Buffy.i listen to this piece of music all the time,i think it is a really emotional piece.i also really love the music called 'Sacrifice',it was used in the episode 'The Gift',which again goes really well for that episode.i think 'Close your eyes' portrays Buffy and Angels love for eachother really well.i think Christophe Beck composes really good music that fits perfectly for Buffy.

My mother always makes me play it in front of guests or relatives when they come over and they always ask me what it is and what it's from and I'm like "It's called Close Your Eyes, by Christophe Beck, and it's the Bangel love theme!" and I get stared at like I'm a giant cockroach or an alien or something.

its a beautiful song, but i think that the later scores from Buffy were improved and really had emotion in them, like Sacrifice from the Gift and the final fight music,
but yeah, this song is so pretty, I think maybe this music didnt have as much of an effect on me as the other 2 songs because this song was constantly played when Buffy and Angel had an emotional scene.. which was pretty much, a lot :P

I always thought the final fight music (is that what it's officially called?) sounded like somebody was watching a little too much LOTR, but it still gives me goosebumps. "Close Your Eyes" is beautiful, and I loved hearing it again when Angel returned after Joyce's funeral. I was just watching "Chosen" again recently and I, too, observed that CYE was sadly absent.

So.... Was there ever a Spuffy theme? I feel like I should know that, but short of going back and watching every Spuffy scene (hmmm....), I'm not sure.

Tranquillity
04-16-2007, 07:04 PM
The Spuffy Love theme is in the final minute (and a bit) of Final Fight and it is beautiful! It plays when Buffy and Spike are the only ones left in the hell mouth. The reason Close Your Eyes is not in Chosen is because the final ep is not, relationship wise, about Buffy and Angel - its about Buffy and Spike.

I was wondering if the Buffy/Spike theme was the same as (or adapted from) the music that played when they first did 'it' in Smashed? I've listened but i can't decide. There does seem to be some similarities but i'm not at all musical, maybe someone more musically minded can confirm or deny.

I thought there was another thread discussing this (posted by you, perhaps?), so I was going to reply there to keep this thread on topic, but now I can't find it, so....

Okay. I just pulled out my Radio Sunnydale and my "Smashed" DVD. I can hear some definite similarities, especially after they start kissing but before they actually have sex (before you hear the zipper). I'd have to memorize the tune in order to compare accurately. That would mean I would have to watch that scene over and over and.... Oh! :frog: But seriously, I think you could be right about the last part of the Final Fight song being adapted from the song in "Smashed." The only thing I can say with any certainty is that they're not exactly the same.

And in keeping with the topic at hand, I was wondering.... At what point did we find out that the Bangel love theme was called "Close Your Eyes?" Was it when the CD was released, and was that after "Becoming II?" Or was it before both Darla and Buffy said the line "Close your eyes" in that episode? Obviously we heard the Bangel theme before "Becoming II." So I guess my question is, was it named "Close Your Eyes" after Darla and Buffy said it to Angel, or did it foreshadow those lines? Chicken or egg?

I'm thinking with my fingers again. I hate it when I can't get my thoughts organized. I'd hate to take a walk through my brain. I'd be tripping over crap and wouldn't be able to find anything.

Edit:

Merge me, baby....

Another thought to throw into my mess here. The reason I was pondering all of this is because I (stupidly) had never noticed before that Buffy and Darla both say "Close your eyes" to Angel, and the only reason I noticed this time around is because I was made aware that the Bangel theme was called CYE, so it stood out.

I always loved that song, and the scene is one of my favorites in the whole series (No, Miss K, not because Angel gets a sword through his gizzard and gets sucked into hell, I just love a good tear jerker). It marked the moment when Buffy the girl started to become Buffy the woman, and faced the realization that life is quite often people do not live happily ever after.
