(stands right up in Angel's face) No. I don't think you... heard me, Angel. (a group of young women walks out from the shadows to back up Andrew) Think we're just gonna let you take her back to your evil stronghold? Well, as they say in Mexico... No. We're not...gonna... let you.
ANGEL
She's psychotic, and I'm not turning her over...to you.
ANDREW
You don't have a choice. Check the view screen, Uhura. I got 12 Vampyr Slayers behind me, and not one of them has ever dated you. She's coming with us one way or another.
ANGEL
You're way outta your league. I'll just clear this with Buffy.
ANDREW
Where do you think my orders came from? News flash—nobody in our camp trusts you anymore. Nobody. You work for Wolfram & Hart. Don't fool yourself... we're not on the same side. Thank you for your help... but, uh...we got it. (gestures to the girls to get Dana)

PROFFESOR HEMMINGWAY
I've selected you three to take part in the internship program at the psych ward of Edmonsville General. Every year, the students I pick for the program work for a few weeks without pay, and if they do well enough, they're offered jobs in the ward.

CAMERA ON: The door, BUFFY and DAWN walk in. BUFFY looks up at something, in surprise.

GILES

1 INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
FADE IN ON a CLOSE UP of GILES, the same shot the show ended on last episode. CAMERA PULLS BACK and BUFFY is in the frame too. She steps over to him and gives him a hug.
BUFFY
Not that's its not great to see you, but what are you doing here?
She releases him and steps back. He takes off his glasses and rubs them on a corner of his shirt while he talks.
GILES
I was here on assignment.that rouge slayer that was after Kennedy?
BUFFY
Right. Shoulda known you'd be in on that. How's the new Council doing?
GILES
As well as can be expected. We don't have enough watchers for every slayer out there, but I have hope.
BUFFY
Hope is good.
She smiles at how strange she sounded, as we
2 INT. MENTAL HOSPITAL - NIGHT
CUT TO: A room in the mental hospital. It's occupied by one man, who's screaming at the top of his lungs and trying to break out of the restraints that have been placed on his wrists and ankles. Two NURSES and a DOCTOR rush into the room. He sees them and quiets down,
muttering to himself and shaking his head every so often.
DOCTOR MARSH
Patient name?
NURSE 2 (reading off chart)
Christens, Daniel. Age 26. Diagnosed with schizophrenia 2 years ago. He's been with us since last October, when he refused to take his medication and attacked a stranger who he claimed was 'controlling him with magnetic waves.'
NURSE 1
He's been doing this for a few nights now. We regulated his medication, but that doesn't seem to have been the problem.
MARSH
What'd you put him on?
NURSE 1
Took off the haloperidol and added fluphenazine.
DANIEL turns his head to stare at the doctor, perfectly calm.
DANIEL

3 INT. SUMMER’S RESIDENCE TRAINING ROOM - DAY
FADE IN ON: GILES and DAWN in a room that used to be the spare bedroom, filled with BUFFY's old training tools and removed of all furniture except for a weapons cabinet and a padded mat covering most of the floor.
GILES
Listen well. Your sister certainly didn't, and that hasn't helped her skilfulness. If you pay attention, you could very well be as good as Buffy herself.
DAWN
Cool!
GILES
That wasn't me giving you permission to try to beat her up.
DAWN
Darn. (Shrugs) It was worth a shot.
GILES
Yes, well.lets start, shall we? Buffy told me she'd started you off with basic karate and jujitsu, correct?
DAWN
Sounds about right.
GILES
Very good. Lets start off today with fundamental principals of judo.
DAWN
Sounds too much like school.
GILES
No, not at all. It's essentially a refined form of jujitsu. Judo, which is translated as the "gentle way", teaches the principle of flexibility in the application of technique against one's opponent.
GILES removes his shoes and steps onto the mat, motioning for DAWN to do the same.
GILES
Skill, technique and timing, rather than the use of brute strength, are essential ingredients for success in Judo. For example-
He steps closer to DAWN, who, unlike BUFFY would be, is listening intently, with her head cocked to one side and her arms folded across her chest.
GILES
If you were to try to throw me over your shoulder using only your strength, you wouldn't be able to.
DAWN proves him wrong and flips him over her shoulder. He lands heavily on his back and the camera follows him. DAWN drops into a sitting position next to GILES
DAWN
Sorry.
GILES (out of breath)
No, quite all right. Violence does seem to come easily to you Summers women, though.
We hear the door to the room open, but the camera stays on GILES and DAWN
BUFFY (OS)
Everything ok in there?
DAWN
I think I broke Giles.
BUFFY walks into the frame.
BUFFY
Just be careful.
She bends down and helps him up onto his feet.
BUFFY
It's pretty easy to do.
GILES
Why in the world do I endure this kind of torment?
DAWN (amiably)
'Cause you're too nice for your own good?
BUFFY puts her arm around GILES shoulders and the start to walk out of the room with DAWN following behind.
BUFFY
So how exactly did she beat you up? This is the first time Dawnie's hurt you, we should write it down to commemorate this special day.
GILES
If that wasn't sarcasm, I think I'd be very put out.
BUFFY
Hey, I have to work again tonight. So you stay here with Dawn alright?
DAWN
Hello? Since when do I need a babysitter.
BUFFY
You don’t.
DAWN
So, then why do I have to stick with him.
BUFFY
Ever heard of hospitality? It’s totally rude to leave a guest home alone. And also? It’s Giles. Do you have any idea how many times he’s gotten hit over the head or kidnapped? I need you to keep an eye on him.
GILES
I’m right here!
BUFFY
…so? Doesn’t make it less true.
DAWN sighs
Alright.
BUFFY's voice fades off as we switch to the next scene.
4 INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT
GILES
And you'll be back by 4?
BUFFY
Yep. You just have fun with Dawn. Sorry, I can’t be around, but you know… duty calls.
GILES (tiredly)
I've made sure there's no cookie dough around and ensured that two of her school friends will be sleeping over, so I won't have to talk about boys or braid hair. We’ll be fine.
BUFFY (trying not to laugh)
That's good to know.
BUFFY starts to leave, but Giles calls her name.
GILES
Buffy-wait a moment.
She turns around.
GILES
I want you to know how proud I am of you. Not only for helping to raise your sister, but also for finding a job, going back to school. You've made something of yourself.
BUFFY (smiling)
Thank you.
They stand in silence for a moment.
GILES (clears his throat)
You'd best be off.
BUFFY
I'll see you when I get home.
Still smiling, BUFFY exits, leaving GILES alone in the kitchen. He takes off his glasses and cleans them as DAWN comes in the room with LUX.
DAWN
We're going to go to Kara's for a while. Is that ok?
GILES
Where does she live?
DAWN
Not too far, we can walk there.
GILES
Leave her phone number here in case I need to talk to you, and be back by 12. Buffy'll have your head if she realizes you went out.
DAWN
She; won’t even notices, besides Xander just called, he’s going to be in earlier then expected. So you can just have fun with him.
DAWN sighs, giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
DAWN
We'll be back by then. See you later, Giles!
She walks out of the room towards the front door, LUX following her. We hear the door slam and GILES winces.
GILES (muttering)
That was fairly painless. A… (checks watch)… 4 hour reprieve.
He moves towards the stove and turns it on, placing the teapot over the hot burner. We hear the front door open and slam again, and XANDER walks in, startling Giles (who drops the teapot).
GILES
Bloody hell! Did you have to do that?
XANDER reaches down and puts the teapot back onto the stove
XANDER
Well, if I knew I was gonna get this warm of a welcome, no, I wouldn't have come home.
GILES
Don't slam doors. It's loud and very, very annoying.
XANDER
Sorry G-man. You the only one home?
GILES
For the moment, yes. You just missed Buffy and Dawn. The amount of traffic through here is eerily reminiscent of the old library.
Xander
You have Sunnydale on the brain?
GILES
Well, of course. It was in our lives for so long, its nearly impossible not to think about it from time to time.
GILES gets a mug out of the cabinet, and gestures to XANDER. He nods, and GILES pulls down a second mug and two teabags.
GILES
Have you ever wondered how all of us would have turned out, had we not lived on a Hellmouth?
XANDER
All the time.
FLASH TO:
4a INT. HOUSE - DAY
Everything is in Sepia colours. CAMERA ON: The front door opens, XANDER walks in, in a suit. He puts a briefcase next to the door and hangs up his coat. Two little kids storm at him.
GIRL
Daddy!
She grabs him by the legs.
XANDER
Hey there.
XANDER picks the girl up and stokes the boy over his head.
BOY
Daddy look what I found in the backyard.
The boy shows him a rusted amulet. A vengeance demon-amulet we see.
XANDER
Wow, very cool, why don’t you go play with it.
The BOY runs off and XANDER puts the GIRL down. He walks on.
XANDER
Honey, I’m home.
He walks on, to the kitchen, but it’s empty, he walks into a hall, there’s nobody. He opens one of the doors, it’s a little girl’s room. Empty, but now we hear some sounds coming from the room.
XANDER
Honey?
He walks to the second room, opens the door, but it’s a little girl’s room. He instantly walks away, and now to the last door, he waits a moment before opening it. Then he opens the door. A blonde woman, we can’t see her face, is folding clothes on the bed, men’s clothes. XANDER walks over to her. When he reaches her, he stands still behind her, he touches her shoulder and as he does, the room fades back to the Summer’s residence and XANDER has reached out for his cup of tea.
XANDER sighs
All the time.
FADE TO BLACK
ACT II
5 INT. WILLOW AND KENNEDY's DORM ROOM – NIGHT
CLOSE UP ON a book in a language that we don't recognize. ZOOM OUT: until we see WILLOW sitting in front of the book, on the bed. She pages through it, occasionally making a noise and writing something down. KENNEDY enters.
KENNEDY
Hey. What'cha doin'?
WILLOW
Nothing special.
She closes the book and puts her notes on the desk.
WILLOW
So, how was class?
KENNEDY goes over to the dresser and starts moving little things around, taking off jewelry, etc. all
KENNEDY
Nothing special. You know that little coffee stand?
WILLOW
By the math building?
KENNEDY
Yea, that's the one.
WILLOW
They have good coffee?
KENNEDY
Nooooo. Really, incredibly horrible. I wanted to warn you.
She makes a face and shudders. WILLOW laughs.
KENNEDY
Do we have plans for tonight?
WILLOW
I was thinking about going to visit Buffy at work.
KENNEDY
Are we allowed to do that?
WILLOW
I don't think she'd mind.
6 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD HALL - NIGHT
PAN DOWN TO: BUFFY, running down a hallway in the hospital. She gets to a set of double doors with "Isolation Wing" written on them in big letters and stops in her tracks.
7 INT. PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY’s CLASSROOM - DAY
FLASHBACK TO: PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY talking to BUFFY.
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
You've done well in the regular ward so far, Buffy.
BUFFY
Thanks, Professor Hemmingway.
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
So that's why I'm giving you a new assignment.
BUFFY
Huh?
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
You're mission, should you choose to accept it-and you should, since you're earning credits-is to work in the isolation ward.
8 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD - NIGHT
BUFFY (under her breath)
And I just *had* to say yes.
She shrugs and passes through the doors.
9 INT. ISOLATION WING - NIGHT
CLOSE UP ON: BUFFY's face. In the background, we can hear someone yelling, and a nurse rushes past the screen. ZOOM OUT to see the whole area, as a doctor comes up to BUFFY.
DOCTOR MARSH
Miss Summers?
BUFFY (slightly dazed)
Yea.how'd you know?
DOCTOR MARSH
You look like the other interns-terrified.
BUFFY laughs nervously.
DOCTOR MARSH
It's ok, Miss Summers. We won't have you dealing with the more sensitive patients. That's for the trained doctors. You're here to observe.
She puts her hand on BUFFY's shoulder. DOCTOR MARSH starts talking, but is cut off by a scream.
DOCTOR MARSH (under breath)
Dammit.
(to BUFFY)
You stay here, Miss Summers.
She runs off, and, of course, Buffy follows. They enter DANIEL CHRISTENS’ room.
10 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD (ROOM) - NIGHT
The two NURSES from the teaser are already in the room, holding DANIEL down. He's screaming and kicking, trying to get them off him.
DOCTOR MARSH (yelling over the screams)
Again??
BUFFY bursts into the room. DANIEL turns towards her and instantly quiets down.
DANIEL (pleadingly, then more frantic)
You have to help me. The doctors don't believe me. I'm possessed. Please. Help me.
A NURSE gives him a shot, and he quiets down. He keeps muttering to himself, but we can't here what he's saying.
CLOSE UP ON: BUFFY's face. She looks disturbed and almost scared.
SWITCH TO
11 INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT
PAN OVER TO: XANDER and GILES, sitting at the kitchen table. They both have mugs of tea in front of them. They're both laughing.
GILES
I'm still amazed that you fell for it.
XANDER
Well, I wasn't the experienced demon hunter I am now.
GILES
He was made entirely out of bugs!
XANDER
Hey, Cordy's the one who let him in.
GILES
Sometime, you're going to have to stop blaming everything on Cordelia.

GILES
Good lord.
XANDER
She died.
GILES
What?
XANDER
I couldn't believe it. She was so full of live. I always figured she'd be a movie star, you know? She was perfect for it. Beautiful, talented, charismatic...it was all there.
GILES
Xander...I'm so sorry...
XANDER
I haven't talked to her for over a year. I had no idea anything was wrong.
GILES
You had nothing to do with it. Why are you so guilty?
XANDER
If things had been different…she wouldn't have left. And she'd still be alive.
XANDER
So. How's things going? Running the Council of Stuffy British People and all that? Probably boring. Is it boring?
GILES
I think I'll ignore that comment. Its very hard work. But its important, and a lot of lives depend on me.
XANDER (fakely hurt)
Wow. I haven't heard you be that patronizing since high school.
GILES
I was never patronizing, I just knew you were smarter than you acted. And also, you were very annoying.
Before XANDER can respond, the kitchen door opens. DAWN, KARA, and LUX spill in, laughing about something.
GILES
Oh, Dawn, good. You're home already?
DAWN
Yep! Figured I'd get some karma points and come home before curfew.
GILES
Wonderful. You girls have fun, Xander and I will be here if you need anything.
They start to leave.
XANDER
Hey, try to keep the obnoxious giggling to a minimum, ok? I have a meeting tomorrow morning.
DAWN turns around and sticks out her tongue.
XANDER
Oh, yeah, that's real mature.
DAWN rolls her eyes and walks out of the room, followed by LUX and KARA
KARA
You have the coolest family.
DAWN
You just think that cause you don't have to be around them all the time. We're actually boring.
12 INT. WILLOW AND KEN'S DORM ROOM - NIGHT
FADE INTO: WILLOW, sitting on the bed and putting earrings on. The phone rings, and she reaches to get it.
WILLOW
Hello?
FADE TO BLACK
ACT III
13 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD - NIGHT
CUT TO: BUFFY, in a corner on her cell phone.
BUFFY
Will. Good. I have a little problem.
WILLOW (over phone, worried)
What's the matter?
BUFFY
You know how I told you I was working in the Isolation ward tonight? I think one of the patients here might be possessed.
14 INT. WILLOW’S ROOM - NIGHT
WILLOW
Are you sure? They're not exactly stable, Buffy.
BUFFY (over phone)
I know. But something about him. It was like he was fighting whatever had taken him over, like he had a moment of clarity. Then he went back to screaming and yelling again.
WILLOW
I dunno, this sounds un-supernatural. But I'll stop by and see, if you want.
15 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD - NIGHT
BUFFY
Really? That would be great. I wouldn't ask, except.
WILLOW (over phone)
I know. You sound worried. Don't be, we can sort this out. I'll be there in 15, ok?
BUFFY (smiles)
Thank you.
16 INT. WILLOW's ROOM - NIGHT
WILLOW (smiles too)
Don't thank me until I solve the problem. See you soon.
WILLOW hangs up the phone. PAN OVER TO: KEN, sitting at the desk.
KENNEDY
Guessing we're not going to the Sliverdust anymore?
WILLOW
No, I think we can still make it. I just need to stop in at the hospital for a minute.
17 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD LOBBY - NIGHT
CLOSE UP ON: BUFFY. PAN OVER TO see the doors next to her open up. KEN and WILLOW walk in.
WILLOW (smiling)
Never fear, Willow's here.
BUFFY
Sorry guys. This shouldn't take long. Will'll tell me I'm blowing thing's outta proportion and you can get back to you date.
They turn away from the camera and start walking towards a bank of elevators.
WILLOW
I wouldn't tell you you were blowing things outta proportion. I’d just say right out, "Buffy, you're nuts".
She puts her arm over BUFFY's shoulders and they laugh.
CUT TO
18 INT. DANIEL'S ROOM - NIGHT
WILLOW flies across DANIEL'S hospital room and crashes into a wall. CLOSE UP ON: DANIEL, still strapped to his bed. He glares at WILLOW and says something in another language. BUFFY rushes over to her.
BUFFY
Will? Willow??
WILLOW opens her eyes and moans.
WILLOW
Ouch.
KENNEDY comes into the room, and she helps Willow up.
KENNEDY
What happened? I was waiting outside, and then.crash!
WILLOW
This would be the time to say I told you so, Buffy.
BUFFY
Yea. I guess throwing you 15 feet without actually moving means it's supernatural?
KEN
What? Are you ok?
WILLOW sighs and blows a piece of hair out of her eyes.
WILLOW
I'm fine. A little bruised, but otherwise peachy. Did you have any
ideas?
BUFFY
Um.that you'd come up with a wonderful Willow-fix?
WILLOW
You couldn't be more specific?
She thinks for a second.
WILLOW
I think I might have something.
19 INT. DOCTOR MARSH’ OFFICE - NIGHT
CLOSE UP ON: DOCTOR MARSH. She shakes her head. PAN OVER (and down a bit, cause Sarah Michelle's not that tall) to reveal BUFFY.
DOCTOR MARSH
Mrs Summers, you've only been here for a few hours. How do you know what'll work for this patient?
BUFFY (her best doctor, smart person voice)
Call it a hunch. If we humour him and pretend to have an exorcism, this delusion might subside. And if not, nothing worse could happen.
DOCTOR MARSH
I’m sorry Buffy, but you’re in way over your head, I suggest you just do what you’re being told and watch and learn, by the time you’ve completed your studies you can come back here and tell me what to do.
BUFFY
But…
DOCTOR MARSH
No buts, and now if I were you I’d get back to work immediately, ‘cause I’m getting a little fed up with this behaviour.
BUFFY turns around to walk away and bumps into PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY.
BUFFY mumbling
Just great.
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
Sorry, I just wanted to drop of some paper, but I couldn’t help but overhearing your conversation.
DOCTOR MARSH
Well, then I hope now you realize that this person is indeed not suitable for my department.
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
On the contrary. This department only has patient in them that can’t be cured. All you people think about is a way to care for them, not cure them. I think it’s about time we brought in some fresh wind.
DOCTOR MARSH
Do you realize that you’re deliberately taking a risk by letting an unapproved person use these unapproved alternative methods. Just wait until the board hears this.
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
May I remind you, that I am *on* the board? I’ll take full responsibility for this, don’t worry…
He gestures Buffy to walk in front of him, out of the office. Then he turns around to DOCTOR MARSH.
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
And when was the last time you had a vacation?
They leave.
CAMERA ON: DOCTOR MARSH standing alone in his office, looking startled.
20 INT. WAITING ROOM - NIGHT
WILLOW and KENNEDY are standing there. WILLOW has an icepack pressed up against her forehead.
BUFFY
She bought it. Did you call Giles?
KENNEDY nods.
KENNEDY
He should be bringing everything by soon.
BUFFY
Good.

ACT IV
21 INT. GILES CAR - NIGHT
GILES, driving XANDER'S car and checking a piece of paper at the same time. He mutters a few things to himself.
PAN DOWN to see he's looking at a map.
GILES (under his breath)
Damn Southern California and it's bloody mass of shopping malls.
He sees the hospital and pulls into the parking lot. Grabbing the box next to him, he rushes out of the car.
22 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD - NIGHT
BUFFY's quietly talking to WILLOW and KENNEDY when GILES enters.
GILES
Here you are, Buffy. I've been looking everywhere for you. Where is he?
BUFFY
Down this way. Do you have everything?
GILES
Yes, its all here.
They walk down the hallway to the room.
23 INT. DANIEL’s ROOM - NIGHT
GILES quickly pulls a book out of the box he brought with him, along with a jar of salt.
GILES
I couldn't find any… (he looks at the book)... binding powder in you pantry, so I hope this will do. Willow?
She takes the jar and spreads it around DANIEL in the circle GILES indicates. DANIEL starts yelling.
DANIEL
Sarete spiacenti. Sarete spiacenti!
GILES tosses KENNEDY a cross. She catches it easily and holds it close to DANIEL'S face, keeping him from moving and breaking his restraints.
CLOSE UP ON:
BUFFY, leaning against a wall, out of the way. It's obvious she wants no part in any of what's going on.
CUT BACK TO: GILES, still with the chanting.
WILLOW takes place, right in front of DANIEL. GILES walks around in circles, chanting, and KENNEDY stands by with a cross. Then WILLOW beings to read an ancient incantation.
WILLOW

DANIEL’s skin begins to harden and turns dark red. As his eyes light up bright red. He starts to roar bare teethed.
WILLOW looks up at him. She reads the lines again.
WILLOW

DANIEL laughs out loud, maniacally.
WILLOW looks up at GILES confused, that the spell isn’t working. At that moment DANIEL breaks out of his restrains he jumps at WILLOW directly. He scratches her face, with his hands and is trying to bite her, but she manages to hold him off. KENNEDY walks up from behind him. She pulls him off of her, he turns around ready to attack KENNEDY, but she’s holding a cross in front of his face. He gives her an estranged look, then she gives him a knee in the crotch, he instantly drops down. KENNEDY walks over to help WILLOW up. But DANIEL has already gotten up. He laughs again and is ready to strike at them, when Giles crack a jar of magical powder on his back. DANIEL turns around.
CUT TO:
DANIEL’s face, looking more evil then ever, there are little cracks showing in his hard skin. He grins at GILES. Then her jumps up to GILES. At the moment he hits him, the hard skin cracks completely and small pieces of it scatter around the room, the vaporise into a red gas, which slowly disappears. GILES is now holding knocked-out, but healed DANIEL.
GILES
I'd say that went rather well.
24 INT. KITCHEN (SUMMER'S HOME) - EARLY DAWN
CAMERA ON: GILES, WILLOW, BUFFY, XANDER and KEN are sitting at the table.
BUFFY
Do you really have to go?
GILES
I have a lot to take care of back in England. I've stayed for longer than I was supposed to, anyway.
The phone starts ringing, but the phone isn't in the base.
WILLOW
Who lost the phone?
XANDER
G-man, you were the last one who had it.
GILES
I don't remember where I put it.
BUFFY
That's fine, the machine can get it.
The phone beeps and the answering machine picks up.
VOICE-MAIL (Buffy's voice)
Hello, you've reached the home of Dawn and Buffy Summers, and Xander Harris. Guess we're not at home right now, so leave your name and number and we'll get back to you. (Beep)
ANDREW (On the phone)
Mr. Giles, I finally found the number where you said you'd be staying.
GILES
Bloody imbecile.

PAN AROUND the table, at everyone's faces. BUFFY, WILLOW, XANDER and KENNEDY look at GILES confused. GILES
GILES sighs.

You have to see he’s playing for the wrong side now, he’s not to be trusted, and don’t you comment me on it Xander, ‘cause need I remind you, that you have felt this way about it as well, for a long time.
GILES stands up to now.
BUFFY near to tears

GILES
You know this has nothing to do with you, there’s nothing for you to complain about! You’re out of the game, by choice, so this has absolutely nothing to do with you. Not everything is about you, you know that!
BUFFY crying
And how about my love?
XANDER holds her.
GILES yelling
You call that love? You’ve been banging his worst enemy for the last two years. If it’s love why aren’t you with him right now, huh? It was never love, it was just another case of hormones on overdrive.
There’s a pause.
KENNEDY gets up, and walks up to GILES.
KENNEDY in a soft voice.
I think you should leave now.
GILES

25 EXT. FRONT PORCH - DAWN
GILES steps out the front door, with his bag. He looks back to see WILLOW and KENNEDY standing in the doorway. KENNEDY closes the door.

GILES stares at the closed door.

XANDER stands with BUFFY, his arms around her shoulders. CLOSE UP ON her face, to reveal a tear rolling down her cheek.
29 INT. ENTRYWAY - DAWN
KENNEDY closes the door and turns to WILLOW. She looks upset, but PAN DOWN to reveal both of her fists are clenched angrily.
30 INT. DAWN’S ROOM - DAWN
DAWN sits up in bed and looks around. LUX and KARA are asleep. She crosses to the window and looks out to see GILES leaving. She opens the door and runs down the stairs.
31 INT. ENTRYWAY - DAWN
DAWN almost runs into WILLOW at the bottom of the staircase. She sees the look on WILLOW and KENNEDY'S faces and looks confused.
32 EXT. SIDEWALK - DAWN
GILES looks back one more time at the house. He sighs and gets into a car.
CLOSE UP ON:
GILES, mirroring the rest of their distressed looks.

1 INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
FADE IN ON a CLOSE UP of GILES, the same shot the show ended on last episode. CAMERA PULLS BACK and BUFFY is in the frame too. She steps over to him and gives him a hug.
BUFFY
Not that's its not great to see you, but what are you doing here?
She releases him and steps back. He takes off his glasses and rubs them on a corner of his shirt while he talks.
GILES
I was here on assignment.that rouge slayer that was after Kennedy?
BUFFY
Right. Shoulda known you'd be in on that. How's the new Council doing?
GILES
As well as can be expected. We don't have enough watchers for every slayer out there, but I have hope.
BUFFY
Hope is good.
She smiles at how strange she sounded, as we
2 INT. MENTAL HOSPITAL - NIGHT
CUT TO: A room in the mental hospital. It's occupied by one man, who's screaming at the top of his lungs and trying to break out of the restraints that have been placed on his wrists and ankles. Two NURSES and a DOCTOR rush into the room. He sees them and quiets down,
muttering to himself and shaking his head every so often.
DOCTOR MARSH
Patient name?
NURSE 2 (reading off chart)
Christens, Daniel. Age 26. Diagnosed with schizophrenia 2 years ago. He's been with us since last October, when he refused to take his medication and attacked a stranger who he claimed was 'controlling him with magnetic waves.'
NURSE 1
He's been doing this for a few nights now. We regulated his medication, but that doesn't seem to have been the problem.
MARSH
What'd you put him on?
NURSE 1
Took off the haloperidol and added fluphenazine.
DANIEL turns his head to stare at the doctor, perfectly calm.
DANIEL

FADE IN ON: GILES and DAWN in a room that used to be the spare bedroom, filled with BUFFY's old training tools and removed of all furniture except for a weapons cabinet and a padded mat covering most of the floor.
GILES
Listen well. Your sister certainly didn't, and that hasn't helped her skilfulness. If you pay attention, you could very well be as good as Buffy herself.
DAWN
Cool!
GILES
That wasn't me giving you permission to try to beat her up.
DAWN
Darn. (Shrugs) It was worth a shot.
GILES
Yes, well.lets start, shall we? Buffy told me she'd started you off with basic karate and jujitsu, correct?
DAWN
Sounds about right.
GILES
Very good. Lets start off today with fundamental principals of judo.
DAWN
Sounds too much like school.
GILES
No, not at all. It's essentially a refined form of jujitsu. Judo, which is translated as the "gentle way", teaches the principle of flexibility in the application of technique against one's opponent.
GILES removes his shoes and steps onto the mat, motioning for DAWN to do the same.
GILES
Skill, technique and timing, rather than the use of brute strength, are essential ingredients for success in Judo. For example-
He steps closer to DAWN, who, unlike BUFFY would be, is listening intently, with her head cocked to one side and her arms folded across her chest.
GILES
If you were to try to throw me over your shoulder using only your strength, you wouldn't be able to.
DAWN proves him wrong and flips him over her shoulder. He lands heavily on his back and the camera follows him. DAWN drops into a sitting position next to GILES
DAWN
Sorry.
GILES (out of breath)
No, quite all right. Violence does seem to come easily to you Summers women, though.
We hear the door to the room open, but the camera stays on GILES and DAWN
BUFFY (OS)
Everything ok in there?
DAWN
I think I broke Giles.
BUFFY walks into the frame.
BUFFY
Just be careful.
She bends down and helps him up onto his feet.
BUFFY
It's pretty easy to do.
GILES
Why in the world do I endure this kind of torment?
DAWN (amiably)
'Cause you're too nice for your own good?
BUFFY puts her arm around GILES shoulders and the start to walk out of the room with DAWN following behind.
BUFFY
So how exactly did she beat you up? This is the first time Dawnie's hurt you, we should write it down to commemorate this special day.
GILES
If that wasn't sarcasm, I think I'd be very put out.
BUFFY
Hey, I have to work again tonight. So you stay here with Dawn alright?
DAWN
Hello? Since when do I need a babysitter.
BUFFY
You don’t.
DAWN
So, then why do I have to stick with him.
BUFFY
Ever heard of hospitality? It’s totally rude to leave a guest home alone. And also? It’s Giles. Do you have any idea how many times he’s gotten hit over the head or kidnapped? I need you to keep an eye on him.
GILES
I’m right here!
BUFFY
…so? Doesn’t make it less true.
DAWN sighs
Alright.
BUFFY's voice fades off as we switch to the next scene.
4 INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT
GILES
And you'll be back by 4?
BUFFY
Yep. You just have fun with Dawn. Sorry, I can’t be around, but you know… duty calls.
GILES (tiredly)
I've made sure there's no cookie dough around and ensured that two of her school friends will be sleeping over, so I won't have to talk about boys or braid hair. We’ll be fine.
BUFFY (trying not to laugh)
That's good to know.
BUFFY starts to leave, but Giles calls her name.
GILES
Buffy-wait a moment.
She turns around.
GILES
I want you to know how proud I am of you. Not only for helping to raise your sister, but also for finding a job, going back to school. You've made something of yourself.
BUFFY (smiling)
Thank you.
They stand in silence for a moment.
GILES (clears his throat)
You'd best be off.
BUFFY
I'll see you when I get home.
Still smiling, BUFFY exits, leaving GILES alone in the kitchen. He takes off his glasses and cleans them as DAWN comes in the room with LUX.
DAWN
We're going to go to Kara's for a while. Is that ok?
GILES
Where does she live?
DAWN
Not too far, we can walk there.
GILES
Leave her phone number here in case I need to talk to you, and be back by 12. Buffy'll have your head if she realizes you went out.
DAWN
She; won’t even notices, besides Xander just called, he’s going to be in earlier then expected. So you can just have fun with him.
DAWN sighs, giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
DAWN
We'll be back by then. See you later, Giles!
She walks out of the room towards the front door, LUX following her. We hear the door slam and GILES winces.
GILES (muttering)
That was fairly painless. A… (checks watch)… 4 hour reprieve.
He moves towards the stove and turns it on, placing the teapot over the hot burner. We hear the front door open and slam again, and XANDER walks in, startling Giles (who drops the teapot).
GILES
Bloody hell! Did you have to do that?
XANDER reaches down and puts the teapot back onto the stove
XANDER
Well, if I knew I was gonna get this warm of a welcome, no, I wouldn't have come home.
GILES
Don't slam doors. It's loud and very, very annoying.
XANDER
Sorry G-man. You the only one home?
GILES
For the moment, yes. You just missed Buffy and Dawn. The amount of traffic through here is eerily reminiscent of the old library.
Xander
You have Sunnydale on the brain?
GILES
Well, of course. It was in our lives for so long, its nearly impossible not to think about it from time to time.
GILES gets a mug out of the cabinet, and gestures to XANDER. He nods, and GILES pulls down a second mug and two teabags.
GILES
Have you ever wondered how all of us would have turned out, had we not lived on a Hellmouth?
XANDER
All the time.
FLASH TO:
4a INT. HOUSE - DAY
Everything is in Sepia colours. CAMERA ON: The front door opens, XANDER walks in, in a suit. He puts a briefcase next to the door and hangs up his coat. Two little kids storm at him.
GIRL
Daddy!
She grabs him by the legs.
XANDER
Hey there.
XANDER picks the girl up and stokes the boy over his head.
BOY
Daddy look what I found in the backyard.
The boy shows him a rusted amulet. A vengeance demon-amulet we see.
XANDER
Wow, very cool, why don’t you go play with it.
The BOY runs off and XANDER puts the GIRL down. He walks on.
XANDER
Honey, I’m home.
He walks on, to the kitchen, but it’s empty, he walks into a hall, there’s nobody. He opens one of the doors, it’s a little girl’s room. Empty, but now we hear some sounds coming from the room.
XANDER
Honey?
He walks to the second room, opens the door, but it’s a little girl’s room. He instantly walks away, and now to the last door, he waits a moment before opening it. Then he opens the door. A blonde woman, we can’t see her face, is folding clothes on the bed, men’s clothes. XANDER walks over to her. When he reaches her, he stands still behind her, he touches her shoulder and as he does, the room fades back to the Summer’s residence and XANDER has reached out for his cup of tea.
XANDER sighs
All the time.
FADE TO BLACK
ACT II
5 INT. WILLOW AND KENNEDY's DORM ROOM – NIGHT
CLOSE UP ON a book in a language that we don't recognize. ZOOM OUT: until we see WILLOW sitting in front of the book, on the bed. She pages through it, occasionally making a noise and writing something down. KENNEDY enters.
KENNEDY
Hey. What'cha doin'?
WILLOW
Nothing special.
She closes the book and puts her notes on the desk.
WILLOW
So, how was class?
KENNEDY goes over to the dresser and starts moving little things around, taking off jewelry, etc. all
KENNEDY
Nothing special. You know that little coffee stand?
WILLOW
By the math building?
KENNEDY
Yea, that's the one.
WILLOW
They have good coffee?
KENNEDY
Nooooo. Really, incredibly horrible. I wanted to warn you.
She makes a face and shudders. WILLOW laughs.
KENNEDY
Do we have plans for tonight?
WILLOW
I was thinking about going to visit Buffy at work.
KENNEDY
Are we allowed to do that?
WILLOW
I don't think she'd mind.
6 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD HALL - NIGHT
PAN DOWN TO: BUFFY, running down a hallway in the hospital. She gets to a set of double doors with "Isolation Wing" written on them in big letters and stops in her tracks.
7 INT. PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY’s CLASSROOM - DAY
FLASHBACK TO: PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY talking to BUFFY.
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
You've done well in the regular ward so far, Buffy.
BUFFY
Thanks, Professor Hemmingway.
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
So that's why I'm giving you a new assignment.
BUFFY
Huh?
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
You're mission, should you choose to accept it-and you should, since you're earning credits-is to work in the isolation ward.
8 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD - NIGHT
BUFFY (under her breath)
And I just *had* to say yes.
She shrugs and passes through the doors.
9 INT. ISOLATION WING - NIGHT
CLOSE UP ON: BUFFY's face. In the background, we can hear someone yelling, and a nurse rushes past the screen. ZOOM OUT to see the whole area, as a doctor comes up to BUFFY.
DOCTOR MARSH
Miss Summers?
BUFFY (slightly dazed)
Yea.how'd you know?
DOCTOR MARSH
You look like the other interns-terrified.
BUFFY laughs nervously.
DOCTOR MARSH
It's ok, Miss Summers. We won't have you dealing with the more sensitive patients. That's for the trained doctors. You're here to observe.
She puts her hand on BUFFY's shoulder. DOCTOR MARSH starts talking, but is cut off by a scream.
DOCTOR MARSH (under breath)
Dammit.
(to BUFFY)
You stay here, Miss Summers.
She runs off, and, of course, Buffy follows. They enter DANIEL CHRISTENS’ room.
10 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD (ROOM) - NIGHT
The two NURSES from the teaser are already in the room, holding DANIEL down. He's screaming and kicking, trying to get them off him.
DOCTOR MARSH (yelling over the screams)
Again??
BUFFY bursts into the room. DANIEL turns towards her and instantly quiets down.
DANIEL (pleadingly, then more frantic)
You have to help me. The doctors don't believe me. I'm possessed. Please. Help me.
A NURSE gives him a shot, and he quiets down. He keeps muttering to himself, but we can't here what he's saying.
CLOSE UP ON: BUFFY's face. She looks disturbed and almost scared.
SWITCH TO
11 INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT
PAN OVER TO: XANDER and GILES, sitting at the kitchen table. They both have mugs of tea in front of them. They're both laughing.
GILES
I'm still amazed that you fell for it.
XANDER
Well, I wasn't the experienced demon hunter I am now.
GILES
He was made entirely out of bugs!
XANDER
Hey, Cordy's the one who let him in.
GILES
Sometime, you're going to have to stop blaming everything on Cordelia.

XANDER
Cordy. Harmony called to tell us...she went into a coma a few months ago. Some supernatural thing.
GILES
Good lord.
XANDER
She died.
GILES
What?
XANDER
I couldn't believe it. She was so full of live. I always figured she'd be a movie star, you know? She was perfect for it. Beautiful, talented, charismatic...it was all there.
GILES
Xander...I'm so sorry...
XANDER
I haven't talked to her for over a year. I had no idea anything was wrong.
GILES
You had nothing to do with it. Why are you so guilty?
XANDER
If things had been different…she wouldn't have left. And she'd still be alive.
XANDER
So. How's things going? Running the Council of Stuffy British People and all that? Probably boring. Is it boring?
GILES
I think I'll ignore that comment. Its very hard work. But its important, and a lot of lives depend on me.
XANDER (fakely hurt)
Wow. I haven't heard you be that patronizing since high school.
GILES
I was never patronizing, I just knew you were smarter than you acted. And also, you were very annoying.
Before XANDER can respond, the kitchen door opens. DAWN, KARA, and LUX spill in, laughing about something.
GILES
Oh, Dawn, good. You're home already?
DAWN
Yep! Figured I'd get some karma points and come home before curfew.
GILES
Wonderful. You girls have fun, Xander and I will be here if you need anything.
They start to leave.
XANDER
Hey, try to keep the obnoxious giggling to a minimum, ok? I have a meeting tomorrow morning.
DAWN turns around and sticks out her tongue.
XANDER
Oh, yeah, that's real mature.
DAWN rolls her eyes and walks out of the room, followed by LUX and KARA
KARA
You have the coolest family.
DAWN
You just think that cause you don't have to be around them all the time. We're actually boring.
12 INT. WILLOW AND KEN'S DORM ROOM - NIGHT
FADE INTO: WILLOW, sitting on the bed and putting earrings on. The phone rings, and she reaches to get it.
WILLOW
Hello?
FADE TO BLACK
ACT III
13 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD - NIGHT
CUT TO: BUFFY, in a corner on her cell phone.
BUFFY
Will. Good. I have a little problem.
WILLOW (over phone, worried)
What's the matter?
BUFFY
You know how I told you I was working in the Isolation ward tonight? I think one of the patients here might be possessed.
14 INT. WILLOW’S ROOM - NIGHT
WILLOW
Are you sure? They're not exactly stable, Buffy.
BUFFY (over phone)
I know. But something about him. It was like he was fighting whatever had taken him over, like he had a moment of clarity. Then he went back to screaming and yelling again.
WILLOW
I dunno, this sounds un-supernatural. But I'll stop by and see, if you want.
15 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD - NIGHT
BUFFY
Really? That would be great. I wouldn't ask, except.
WILLOW (over phone)
I know. You sound worried. Don't be, we can sort this out. I'll be there in 15, ok?
BUFFY (smiles)
Thank you.
16 INT. WILLOW's ROOM - NIGHT
WILLOW (smiles too)
Don't thank me until I solve the problem. See you soon.
WILLOW hangs up the phone. PAN OVER TO: KEN, sitting at the desk.
KENNEDY
Guessing we're not going to the Sliverdust anymore?
WILLOW
No, I think we can still make it. I just need to stop in at the hospital for a minute.
17 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD LOBBY - NIGHT
CLOSE UP ON: BUFFY. PAN OVER TO see the doors next to her open up. KEN and WILLOW walk in.
WILLOW (smiling)
Never fear, Willow's here.
BUFFY
Sorry guys. This shouldn't take long. Will'll tell me I'm blowing thing's outta proportion and you can get back to you date.
They turn away from the camera and start walking towards a bank of elevators.
WILLOW
I wouldn't tell you you were blowing things outta proportion. I’d just say right out, "Buffy, you're nuts".
She puts her arm over BUFFY's shoulders and they laugh.
CUT TO
18 INT. DANIEL'S ROOM - NIGHT
WILLOW flies across DANIEL'S hospital room and crashes into a wall. CLOSE UP ON: DANIEL, still strapped to his bed. He glares at WILLOW and says something in another language. BUFFY rushes over to her.
BUFFY
Will? Willow??
WILLOW opens her eyes and moans.
WILLOW
Ouch.
KENNEDY comes into the room, and she helps Willow up.
KENNEDY
What happened? I was waiting outside, and then.crash!
WILLOW
This would be the time to say I told you so, Buffy.
BUFFY
Yea. I guess throwing you 15 feet without actually moving means it's supernatural?
KEN
What? Are you ok?
WILLOW sighs and blows a piece of hair out of her eyes.
WILLOW
I'm fine. A little bruised, but otherwise peachy. Did you have any
ideas?
BUFFY
Um.that you'd come up with a wonderful Willow-fix?
WILLOW
You couldn't be more specific?
She thinks for a second.
WILLOW
I think I might have something.
19 INT. DOCTOR MARSH’ OFFICE - NIGHT
CLOSE UP ON: DOCTOR MARSH. She shakes her head. PAN OVER (and down a bit, cause Sarah Michelle's not that tall) to reveal BUFFY.
DOCTOR MARSH
Mrs Summers, you've only been here for a few hours. How do you know what'll work for this patient?
BUFFY (her best doctor, smart person voice)
Call it a hunch. If we humour him and pretend to have an exorcism, this delusion might subside. And if not, nothing worse could happen.
DOCTOR MARSH
I’m sorry Buffy, but you’re in way over your head, I suggest you just do what you’re being told and watch and learn, by the time you’ve completed your studies you can come back here and tell me what to do.
BUFFY
But…
DOCTOR MARSH
No buts, and now if I were you I’d get back to work immediately, ‘cause I’m getting a little fed up with this behaviour.
BUFFY turns around to walk away and bumps into PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY.
BUFFY mumbling
Just great.
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
Sorry, I just wanted to drop of some paper, but I couldn’t help but overhearing your conversation.
DOCTOR MARSH
Well, then I hope now you realize that this person is indeed not suitable for my department.
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
On the contrary. This department only has patient in them that can’t be cured. All you people think about is a way to care for them, not cure them. I think it’s about time we brought in some fresh wind.
DOCTOR MARSH
Do you realize that you’re deliberately taking a risk by letting an unapproved person use these unapproved alternative methods. Just wait until the board hears this.
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
May I remind you, that I am *on* the board? I’ll take full responsibility for this, don’t worry…
He gestures Buffy to walk in front of him, out of the office. Then he turns around to DOCTOR MARSH.
PROFESSOR HEMMINGWAY
And when was the last time you had a vacation?
They leave.
CAMERA ON: DOCTOR MARSH standing alone in his office, looking startled.
20 INT. WAITING ROOM - NIGHT
WILLOW and KENNEDY are standing there. WILLOW has an icepack pressed up against her forehead.
BUFFY
She bought it. Did you call Giles?
KENNEDY nods.
KENNEDY
He should be bringing everything by soon.
BUFFY
Good.
FADE TO BLACK
ACT IV
21 INT. GILES CAR - NIGHT
GILES, driving XANDER'S car and checking a piece of paper at the same time. He mutters a few things to himself.
PAN DOWN to see he's looking at a map.
GILES (under his breath)
Damn Southern California and it's bloody mass of shopping malls.
He sees the hospital and pulls into the parking lot. Grabbing the box next to him, he rushes out of the car.
22 INT. PSYCHIATRICAL WARD - NIGHT
BUFFY's quietly talking to WILLOW and KENNEDY when GILES enters.
GILES
Here you are, Buffy. I've been looking everywhere for you. Where is he?
BUFFY
Down this way. Do you have everything?
GILES
Yes, its all here.
They walk down the hallway to the room.
23 INT. DANIEL’s ROOM - NIGHT
GILES quickly pulls a book out of the box he brought with him, along with a jar of salt.
GILES
I couldn't find any… (he looks at the book)... binding powder in you pantry, so I hope this will do. Willow?
She takes the jar and spreads it around DANIEL in the circle GILES indicates. DANIEL starts yelling.
DANIEL
Sarete spiacenti. Sarete spiacenti!
GILES tosses KENNEDY a cross. She catches it easily and holds it close to DANIEL'S face, keeping him from moving and breaking his restraints.
CLOSE UP ON:
BUFFY, leaning against a wall, out of the way. It's obvious she wants no part in any of what's going on.
CUT BACK TO: GILES, still with the chanting.
WILLOW takes place, right in front of DANIEL. GILES walks around in circles, chanting, and KENNEDY stands by with a cross. Then WILLOW beings to read an ancient incantation.
WILLOW

DANIEL’s skin begins to harden and turns dark red. As his eyes light up bright red. He starts to roar bare teethed.
WILLOW looks up at him. She reads the lines again.
WILLOW

DANIEL laughs out loud, maniacally.
WILLOW looks up at GILES confused, that the spell isn’t working. At that moment DANIEL breaks out of his restrains he jumps at WILLOW directly. He scratches her face, with his hands and is trying to bite her, but she manages to hold him off. KENNEDY walks up from behind him. She pulls him off of her, he turns around ready to attack KENNEDY, but she’s holding a cross in front of his face. He gives her an estranged look, then she gives him a knee in the crotch, he instantly drops down. KENNEDY walks over to help WILLOW up. But DANIEL has already gotten up. He laughs again and is ready to strike at them, when Giles crack a jar of magical powder on his back. DANIEL turns around.
CUT TO:
DANIEL’s face, looking more evil then ever, there are little cracks showing in his hard skin. He grins at GILES. Then her jumps up to GILES. At the moment he hits him, the hard skin cracks completely and small pieces of it scatter around the room, the vaporise into a red gas, which slowly disappears. GILES is now holding knocked-out, but healed DANIEL.
GILES
I'd say that went rather well.
24 INT. KITCHEN (SUMMER'S HOME) - EARLY DAWN
CAMERA ON: GILES, WILLOW, BUFFY, XANDER and KEN are sitting at the table.
BUFFY
Do you really have to go?
GILES
I have a lot to take care of back in England. I've stayed for longer than I was supposed to, anyway.
The phone starts ringing, but the phone isn't in the base.
WILLOW
Who lost the phone?
XANDER
G-man, you were the last one who had it.
GILES
I don't remember where I put it.
BUFFY
That's fine, the machine can get it.
The phone beeps and the answering machine picks up.
VOICE-MAIL (Buffy's voice)
Hello, you've reached the home of Dawn and Buffy Summers, and Xander Harris. Guess we're not at home right now, so leave your name and number and we'll get back to you. (Beep)
ANDREW (On the phone)
Mr. Giles, I finally found the number where you said you'd be staying.
GILES
Bloody imbecile.
All of them laugh.

ANDREW (On the phone)
Everything went as planned. Angel seemed really upset when I told him Buffy didn't trust him anymore. We didn't go too far, did we? I'll be in the office for the rest of the day, call me when you get in.
A beep.
PAN AROUND the table, at everyone's faces. BUFFY, WILLOW, XANDER and KENNEDY look at GILES confused. GILES
GILES sighs.
GILES
It’s Wolfram and Hart. They're evil. They have to know to stop this.

XANDER (livid, and possibly hysterical)
Best interest? Well, I'm sure Buffy will appreciate that you *lied* to Angel about how she felt?
GILES
Not her in particular, all of us, in gene-
He notices their looks.
GILES yelling.
You have to see he’s playing for the wrong side now, he’s not to be trusted, and don’t you comment me on it Xander, ‘cause need I remind you, that you have felt this way about it as well, for a long time.
GILES stands up to now.
BUFFY near to tears
How could you? … How could you? You monster!
GILES
You know this has nothing to do with you, there’s nothing for you to complain about! You’re out of the game, by choice, so this has absolutely nothing to do with you. Not everything is about you, you know that!
BUFFY crying
And how about my love?
XANDER holds her.
GILES yelling
You call that love? You’ve been banging his worst enemy for the last two years. If it’s love why aren’t you with him right now, huh? It was never love, it was just another case of hormones on overdrive.
There’s a pause.
KENNEDY gets up, and walks up to GILES.
KENNEDY in a soft voice.
I think you should leave now.
GILES
But-
KEN stern
Now.
CUT TO:
25 EXT. FRONT PORCH - DAWN
GILES steps out the front door, with his bag. He looks back to see WILLOW and KENNEDY standing in the doorway. KENNEDY closes the door.

27 EXT. PORCH - DAWN
GILES stares at the closed door.
28 INT. HALLWAY - DAWN
XANDER stands with BUFFY, his arms around her shoulders. CLOSE UP ON her face, to reveal a tear rolling down her cheek.
29 INT. ENTRYWAY - DAWN
KENNEDY closes the door and turns to WILLOW. She looks upset, but PAN DOWN to reveal both of her fists are clenched angrily.
30 INT. DAWN’S ROOM - DAWN
DAWN sits up in bed and looks around. LUX and KARA are asleep. She crosses to the window and looks out to see GILES leaving. She opens the door and runs down the stairs.
31 INT. ENTRYWAY - DAWN
DAWN almost runs into WILLOW at the bottom of the staircase. She sees the look on WILLOW and KENNEDY'S faces and looks confused.
32 EXT. SIDEWALK - DAWN
GILES looks back one more time at the house. He sighs and gets into a car.
CLOSE UP ON:
GILES, mirroring the rest of their distressed looks.
CUT TO BLACK
