View Full Version : Will season seven be the last for Buffy?

Hey guys!!! I recently bought the latest issue of the Buffy magazine and there was an interview with Marti Noxon at a UPN press party and this is what she said:

Q: So do you have any idea yet how the series will eventually end?

A: We don't know yet if Season Seven will be the end. There's lots of talk, but the truth is, I think if Sarah wanted to continue and UPN wanted to continue, the show would continue, because they're going to find someone who will want to run it.If it's not Joss or me, it will be someone else. We've talked a lot about the direction for the next season, but after Season Five, which we thought would be the final season, we were like, "Never make assumptions." So we'll see.

Personally, if they ended Buffy after season seven, I would be okay with it. I love Buffy, but I don't want to see her slaying at 35. :p Anyway, I just thought I would post this to keep you guys informed!!!:)

I think they should keep it going for awhile but maybe afetr season 8 or 9 then consider giving it up because Sarah would be getting too old for slaying!

I tend to think that if it did continue afetr season 7 then it would be without SMG... after all, the schedule for filming buffy is one of the harshest (next to Angel :p ) going. By being the main character, it means SMG is sacrificing a lot of chances at furthering her film career (she was having to fly to different continents to do Scooby Doo) It has to be very draining trying to maintain both a TV and a film career, and ultimately, as a career choice she will inevitably have to pick the movies as a longer term option for financial security.

Hollywood is an ageist place and if she leaves it too long, she won't be able to get her foot in the door to serve her time in the traditionally door opening teen flicks... I'm not sure she had done enough yet to be guaranteed movie roles when you consider the experience other actresses have.

Plus, don't forget she will also probably be wanting children at some point in the future... I guess a nine month bump would put any slayer at a greater risk of injury.

Anyway, thats just my take on it... The show is too time consuming and will jepordise her future if she isn't careful.

I tend toagree with sweetpea both SMG and AH could have big movie careers ahead of them. Plus everyones contract ends at the end of series 7 and the company would have to sign them up again and, as much as i want it to, i cant see it happening.

So is there a season 7? I thought s6 was the last

Charlie Angel
04-22-2002, 11:25 AM
I heard after s7 they are making a show focusing on dawn instead... anyways I don't mind what they do with the show as long as quality eps are still made :)

Buffy Summers
04-22-2002, 02:01 PM
Agreed - and I think the quality at some point will decline. Plus I don't think Sarah will do more than 7 seasons. I just kind of always assumed #7 would be it.

sweetpea
04-23-2002, 04:52 AM
There will definately be a series 7 Cole so don't worry... the cast are all signed their contracts for that long... but Charlies Angel was spot on about Dawn... apparently Joss has asked her if she would like to continue... I'm not sure how it would work, but I think after 7 years the quality would inevitably decline, so putting someone still relatively fresh such as MT at the helm could be just the boost the show (or whatever format the show takes as obviously it won't be the same show... it'd be an offshoot) needs

Aly
04-23-2002, 04:58 AM
Something like "Dawn : The Slayer's Sister" Lol. I don't like dawn that much.

Maybe James Marsters/Spike could make an appearence on Angel. Or maybe there should be a crossover between Angel and Buffy for the final ep.

Whatever it is, it's gonna be good. Except the Dawn spin-off thing. I don't think it's a good idea.

I hope season 7 isn't the end. I love Buffy too much to let it go. If sarah wants to leave I'd be more than happy to see faith as the slayer...but then again that's just me.

I think Buffy should go at least 8 seasons if not 9 or 10 but no more than 10.... but then again that's just me being greedy.

I didn't think X-Files would make it to season 9 or 8 for that matter but it was a very popular show like Buffy is. But, the quality of the show did decline after oh season 7, when David left. I didn't even watch after season 7. And I use to love that show. Even more so than Buffy.

hey guys i would love Buffy to go to season 9 but i would have to agree with one of the producer Marti Noxon and say the stories would be so lame would u rather buffy get so lame no one watches it or would u rather Buffy finish with a Bang and every body rememberying it i'd rather see a season 8 as there last season I would be happy.

I think that is it would end after season 7 i would be a little bummed, but seeing SMG and AH in movies is a great thing too. They will do great!

04-25-2002, 07:48 AM
i dont want for season 7 to end and 31 is not that old now if shes like 50 that would be too much but think about what about witchblade thats a pretty much kick but show and xena was a kick but show and there both out of there 20s and them shows rock so why couldnt buffy right now she still in the growing stage figuring out what she wants to do with her life even if she wanted to have kids with freddie there are ways for the cameras to get around it or worked into the script somehow she has stunt doubles you know and with the comming up shows its only bound to get better there are still so many possibilites to work with the show

Spike
04-25-2002, 08:00 AM
Listen they have to end it soon after 6 seasons of pushing Buffy as being phyisicly indistructable the only way they make us pitty her is putting her under emotional strain. And lets face it how much emotional strain can they put her under? She already lost her Mother nearly lost her sister and over the corse of 6 seasons naerly lost her friends numuros times.
A show concentrating on another character would be cool but just not Dawn. Spike's own show would be cool or maybe Willow but not Dawn her character doesnt have any depth what will it be a show on shoplifting?

Leeloohb
04-25-2002, 08:11 AM
hehehehe shoplifting......thats funny. The important thing is that theu turn out good material. Inevitably, it wil become arder todo so. I would love the show to keep going on, but eventially we would become tired of it. I agree that I wouldn't want to watch a show focused on Dawn, she doesn't contribute much now but a headache, so what would a show about her be about. Anyway, to keep the audience interested, the writers must keep writing really good material, and that wont keep happening most likely. By the time the show does actually end, there will be a new, awesome show that will take its place. Until then, enjoy it!

Spike
04-25-2002, 08:18 AM
yeah Joss is working on a new show called firefly. Should be good.

Charles Gunn

i'd be okay if the 7th season is the last---we saw what happened to the X-Files and if they do wrap it up next season or the season after, i'm sure it would be a total blast

Eternal Darkness
04-27-2002, 05:22 PM
I don't think that I'm happily contemplating the end, but we have to be realistic. This season has been lagging a little bit and I've lost my edge for the show. I'd rather see it go out with a bang than with small firecrackers.:)

Willow
04-27-2002, 05:33 PM
I'm not too enthralled with the idea of a Dawn based show; where her character is at right now, there is no way she could support an entire show. I don't agree however that the writers are resorting to emotional pain to keep the storylines going; there has always been emotional pain, the show just doesn't have the massive fight scenes it once had, so perhaps we notice the buffy anguish slightly more (although I always thought she'd conveyed it very well :D ) I really hope season 7 isn't the end, but none of them really are in it for simply the money, so if they feel it won't work then that'll be the end. I would hope it could carry on a couple more years though!

Aly
04-28-2002, 12:28 AM
I think there should be an Anya/Xander spin-off. The whole 'scared of bunnies' thing is hilarious and really could be developed.

They should stop it after Season 7. Unless they would continue to give the quality storylines we are used to, there would be no point. They should just end it with the best finale imaginable. :D I can't even begin to imagine a Dawn spin-off, a Faith one probably wouldn't be too bad, but she's currently in jail. Hopefully, Giles' spin-off is going to be good. :)

WHAT?! Buffy might be cancelled? Why?

And I heard that the seventh season, next year, may be their last. I might be wrong, though.

Andros
04-28-2002, 05:04 PM
I love Buffy and I wish that the 7th season won't be its last but if it is, I want more spinoff. The characters are too good to just vanish. Angel is so totally cool. I hope that there will be a lot of seasons for The Ripper and that a lot of characters will go in it. And an other spinoff would be perfect! Spike? We already have Angel as a vamp so no or he could go in it. Faith? We had a slayer for 7 years... no. Willow? Charmed... no again. Xander/Anya? Alone, those two aren't very interresting. Oz? Doing movies but would rocks as a spinoff. Dawn? Boring. The conclusion? Buffy until season 9 or 10! :D

I read a SMG interview and she said that she's contracted for season six and seven. After that she and UPN are gonna decide whether or not to continue with the show, so an eight season is a possibility. I seriously think they should go for it.

Even if Buffy ends att season 7 whats to say Angel won't last longer. Although they are two different thing there is also Giles. At the end we might see the next slayer, I think that will be inteesting. Which could be Dawn(Highly unlickely) but joss would allways manage to think of somthing even if he wants a dawn show he will have lots of plans for her. It may be about dawn going to live with her dad and there will be lots of key stuff. She might run away or somthing like that.

Charles Gunn
04-29-2002, 03:11 PM
one thing.i can't see buffy ending any other way than with her death.which wouldn't leave much for a film franchise

Andros
04-29-2002, 05:38 PM
Good point Leo13. In the Ripper, it would be nice to see a new slayer(good) but Faith would have to die(bad).... And maybe Spike could become a watcher! Hahahaha
Do you think Joss will be tired of Buffy and everything connected to it or he would created something related to it?

Charles Gunn
04-29-2002, 05:42 PM
well he's already got firefly on the go.

You have a point Charles Gunn. But..what would ..to you...be more popular?

Charles Gunn

i think joss is in a position now where popularity isn't as important as his enjoyment

SavageAngel
04-30-2002, 08:25 AM
Personally, I almost hopes it ends at S7, although I love it and would hate to see it go. But someone did make a point earlier - would the series end with Buffy dying (again), this time for good? Or would she just go on happily slaying in our minds, but with no show to watch about it (if they don't kill her off)?

What on earth would a Dawn show be about?? I can't even see that working. As of right now, she has no special powers or anything, so what would the premise of the show be??

Does anyone have any info on the ASH show (something about The Ripper?)? Also, what is this Firefly people keep mentioning? I'm lost on that one!!

SavageAngel
04-30-2002, 01:08 PM
Or here's an idea...

There has been talk of a BtVS movie filming in 2003-2004. So the series ends at the end of S7 with Buffy still alive. They do an X-Files thing where the movie picks up where the series ended and the movie ties up all the loose ends - maybe with the Angel characters involved, like maybe Buffy does die, and Angel could be there... Or they could all fight together in some really nasty apocolypse battle (maybe the one that the Angel prophecy refers to), and they all live happily ever after, yada, yada...

Who knows - could be...???

Andros
04-30-2002, 03:59 PM
Well on IMDB.com it says that the ripper is in pre-production(at least that's a begginning  ) I hope that the project won't be cancel. For Dawn, she could go on Dawson's Creek or an other drama teen show! LOL

Leeloohb
05-01-2002, 10:18 AM
I think a Buffy movie would be great, if they use the same actors! I read that next season will be like a new beginning for Buffy. They will go back to more butt kicking, and follow the big bad formula. That will be a breath of fresh air.......

Aly
05-01-2002, 10:41 AM
A Dawn spin-off would have no depth at all. I haven't seen s1 and s2 but from what I've heard, Angel couldn't have been predicted as a successful spin-off. so maybe Dawn will evolve into a new success.

Who would've guessed from a vamp cursed with a soul could end up where it is now. I mean Darla's pregnancy, Connor, everything.

So who's to say they couldn't develop Dawn into a cool show?

I'm just saying. It's not like I'm a huge Dawn fan
(I'm the kind of person who likes to look at the two sides of everything)

SavageAngel
05-01-2002, 12:30 PM
Definitely would love to see the show get back to more dusting vamps and general kicking butt - more of Buffy's old humor...

It's true. Season 7 will be that last.

Nicholas Brendon – Xander in Buffy the Vampire Slayer – is preparing himself for the inevitable. When Buffy's cast and crew reconvene to shoot the seventh season in July, they will be doing so for the last time. After season seven, Buffy will not be coming back from the dead.

BUFFY'S END IS NIGH - REALLY
Neala Johnson
02may02
NICHOLAS Brendon has spent the past six years of his life playing the endearingly goofy Xander Harris in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

As one of Buffy's best friends, Xander been captured by a man-eating praying mantis, and done Dracula's bidding after the vampire forced the teen to become, in Xander-speak, his "butt monkey".

But now, Brendon is preparing himself for the inevitable. When Buffy's cast and crew reconvene to shoot the seventh season in July, they will be doing so for the last time.

After season seven, Buffy will not be coming back from the dead.

"It sucks, because with how this year ended, and with what's gonna happen next year, it's gonna go out on top," says Brendon from Sydney, where he visited a sci-fi convention.

"We're having a lot of fun doing it. This last year was my most fun year doing the show. But that's life in showbiz, and I'll just do something else."

The reasons for Buffy ending are many – the stars, including Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, will be out of contract at the end of season seven – but the final blow has really been dealt by the man Buffy fans consider to be something of a god, series creator Joss Whedon.

Since turning his critically lambasted Buffy the Vampire Slayer feature film into a cult TV hit, Whedon has become increasingly busy.

He created the Buffy spin-off Angel and is now working on another sci-fi action series, Firefly, reportedly the most expensive pilot ever made for US*TV.

"Joss always wanted to be attached to it, and as his schedule's becoming thinner, it's harder for him to be a part of the show," Brendon, 31, says.

"It was his baby, so if he can't be a part of it like he wants to, then it's just not gonna run.

"It's gonna be really sad for me, 144 episodes and it's my first job. I went through a lot of changes personally in that time, so it's gonna be a teary goodbye."

For Brendon, life after Buffy may include "some films and probably a sitcom".

Still, Brendon will have some fantastic memories. His favourite Buffy adventures include the recent musical episode, and the time Xander was split in two, with one half played by Brendon's identical twin brother Kelly Donovan.

Donovan (the brothers use their middle names instead of their surname professionally) is now Brendon's stunt-double.

"His first day of doing stunts, he dislocated his shoulder," Brendon recalls. "So then he got fired, I pleaded for them to rehire him, and now he's been doing great."

For this Gene Kelly fan, the musical episode where he delivered an old-fashioned dance routine was also a blast.

As for the season now showing on Australian TV, Brendon remains tight-lipped.

How will they top last season's cliffhanger, when Buffy was dead?

"Just wait and see. This year's exciting, I can tell you that. People die!"

Thanks for that! I knew that nick had a twin but i didnt think he was invloved in buffy!Back to the big question . . . im confused coz in a way, i dont ever want buffy to finish! Lol. But also, i woudlnt ever want to go off buffy and for it to be laughable as it could possibly decline, like, as someone said, friends did. Friends has its moments but the older series were DEFINETLY the best. I think buffy should go on for a couple more series, but should then stop. Happily. Lol.
I like the idea of continuing it all with dawn - i like her and michelle is an incredible actress! Of course, theyd have to expand her character but it could work! Especially with joss, who is, btw, kinda a god to me! But im saying that unblasphemous (is that a word?!)! Also, there cant be spin-offs of everyone - too many progs! Lol.
Oh, well, SMG is still very young but, like, nick is 31! So we'll have to wait and see . . .
But even if it does finish, there are vids, no doubt numerous and constant re-runs for years toc ome, and us fans to stay loyal and remember the good ol' times when buffy was around! Plus, its not as if the stars are going anywhere! They will be in numerous films, tv progs etc - but of course, the end of buffy will be a very sad day for us all (aslthough there is life after it, honest! Dont be too dramatic, lol) but obviously, i will be very upset, a sad day . . .

;)

I bet it will be heaps sad, but I hope it's not. So Buffy dies? Why can't she just give her job to a new slayer? And have her happy (maybe with Spike. teehee) About the Dawn spin-off... yuk. Maybe an Anya spin-off would be cool.

I agree, not many shows can say they have done that. The problem is then, though, that all the fans still want more and are really upset!

Jeez, guys! We cant have a spin-off of all the character! Everyone wants different ones, how could they choose?! Also, cander is just an ordinary guy, i cant see a spin-off being too interesting, watching him on his building-sites! Some, such as willw and anya, would be interesting, but they have to draw the line: Buffy, Angel, The Ripper. Thats it.

I hope the show ends all happy, although, like some of you, i believe not only would it be more dramatic, but it would make sense to kill her off at the end.

I think, however it will end, obviously its gonna be so very sad! :crying::

I don't know what I'd do if season 7's the last. I wish that they would at least go up to 10 seasons. I know that's what Joss Whedon wants. If season 7's the last they better have a BUFFY movie! I know it would be sad if Buffy does end on season 7 but as someone said before I would much rather the show end while its still strong then end up having to end badly. I don't want to see one of my favourite shows turn bad thats not how I want to remember Buffy for the rest of my life.

Exactly! We all want to remember buffy and tell our kids etc what our fav show was, in a good way. I dont want it to burn out. That would ruin the whole thing. Buffy is my fav prog ever, and if it burns out, i wont be able to remember it like that!

I feel the same way as you do ::bsad:: Just to think that the 7th season ' might ' be the last makes me wanna cry ::crying:: I ::heart:: this show so much. I don't know what I'm gonna do when it's all over! All I have to say is that they better have a movie. If they do, that'll make me feel a little better ::change:: At least Angel ::angel:: will still be on for another couple of seasons!

It will be very sad! But life does go on! Just remember what ive told you:

When it ends, the cast will go on to do many different things, meaning many AMNY projects and tv series, films etc with our fav ex-buffy actors and actresses on them! :D

Of course, that will not account for the end of the best tv show ever, but its a start . . .

;)
