Angel or Buffy?? Which show did you like him best or think he did a better job?

Definetly Angel. Did he even have a personality on Buffy (except when he was Angelus)? I don't think so.

Angel w/o a doubt. he's a lot funnier and more interesting. the only time he was really interesting on Angel was when he was Angelus.

He was better on Angel I think, They got more into his back story, he had more personality, and more personal relationships.

He was better on Angel, seeing him standing on his own without Buffy, making new friends and growing up..

Aaah I went with both....I just love the Angel character so much!

I said Angel...because without him on the show, there'd be no show...and plus on Buffy he was kinda clingy and annoying and he really didn't have much of a personality. At least on Angel he was really his own person.

I voted for Angel, because it was so much different (for me) than Buffy more dark.
I liked him in Buffy but I think he was mainly in her shadow.
I think when he did the crossover episodes, that was ok because he wasn't gonna stay forever. I loved him in Pangs when he jumped down the stairs and snapped the Chumash's neck (Awsome, although probably not for the Chumash guy)
I liked him best in the early angel episodes--and whenever he was evil.
::bat:: <- is this the perfect picture for him or what?

Angel no doubt because he actually had his own personality, he wasn't just drooling over Buffy all the time. I just didn't like when Angel went through his 'happy' phase on AtS, and acted like a dork all the time lol

ATS was better than BTVS,but David was great on both shows. Angel was better on ATS,but the question is about David and we can't forget Angelus BTVS S2. He was terrific!:)

I think he got more of an opportunity to show off his skills in ATS- *thinks I Will Remember You, Home, The eppie that Connor got taken-which is slipping from my head now...Lullaby?*

I went for both. Only because I loved him on BTVS because of the way he was with Buffy. I'm a hopeless romantic and he was her knight in shining armour. Plus his storyline in Season 2 was amazing.
But I think he had more oppurtunity on Angel. When he was on Buffy his fighting wasn't all that great because the attention of that show was focused on her. But when he got his own show his fighting skills got so much better. Watching that first ep, I was like 'Were's all these moves come from?'

I choose Angel because on Buffy the only side you really saw of him was the broody side but on Angel you get to see more than that side.

He was better on Angel. On Buffy he was to annoying and devoid of emotion. He was alot funnier on Angel!!

I liked both. His character evolved from Buffy to Angel. But it's like evolving from a marshmallow to a peep ( you know, those marshmallow birds?) there is no bad!
okay- bad analogy, but A for effort? :silly:

MMM Peeps...There were times on both shows when I liked him. Season 1 was cool...I love how they didn't reveal him as a vampire until halfway into the season. Even though you didn't know at first, you knew there was more to this guy than meets the eye. Plus he threw in that "They really don't like me down there" line in WTTH/TH.

Def Angel!
On BtVS he was so dependent on Buffy, it really got tired(not that I ever got tired with him...just tired with the storyline, you know Good Evil Good)
On Angel he had a life, well an unlife, he was a champion. He made new friends(God I'm talking about him like he's 7) and fell in love with Cordy. He had a son and saved the world.
I forgot, How many times did he do that on BtVS? Up...none:)

I agreed with most on liking Angel better on 'Angel'. I sort of thought that he has much more personality being on Angel, not just I'm Buffy's Boyfriend, I Love Buffy, kinda thing that was happening on Buffy. Even when he came back for last two episodes in S7, you see some of his personality which I thought was great. Because in S1/S2/S3 it was pretty much [as someone said above] just the broody, solemn, stuff. [Well besides Angelus in S2... that was fun :) Lol].

Loved him as Angelus in S2, and as Angel in the first half of S1. I have to agree though, it was nice to see him holding his own in ATS. Got him into the limelight and out of Buffys shadow! :chicken: PEEP!

Well of course he was better on Angel. On Buffy we didn't know a lot about him, just the fact that he's a vampire and fell in love with Buffy...trying to save the world from the evil creeps. Now in his own show we get more of an idea of what really happened in his past and how he developed from this guy who was so focused on his relationship with Buffy that no one really knew him that well. *mysterious is always good ;)* When he was in L.A. he was in charge and called most of the shots, he made friends that he'd probably never thought he'd make. Those friends helped him survive really, they helped him from turning evil and when he was evil they tried to bring him back. I loved how he showed his caring side when Connor was around and how his life was more so based on saving the world.

I think he was better on Angel because they gave him more room to become a real character, and not just a Buffy-follower. We got to see him in a lot of different aspects, not just a love-sick brooding vampire-with-a-soul. :)
But I really liked him in BtVS season 1 because he was all mysterious. And I liked when he was Angelus, just because it was new and exciting. But other than that, I have to say that he was better on Angel.

I liked him better in Angel, mostly because you got to see more sides of him, and dig a little deeper in the Angel mystery. Didn't unlike him in BtVS, but I think it was good that he left when he did, so things could develope.. I like his cameo in Chosen, think you got to see a little bit of the development Angel did, even if it doesn't really seem to match what's going on right then on Ats, but that's another discussion.

To be honest I hated Angel on Buffy. He was supposed to be that dark, handsome, mysterious guy... and that just never worked for me. He was just just being stupid and that disappearing all of a sudden thing, was just annoying and not interesting or mysterious at all. So, yea, I didn't think I'd like Ats since I hated the main character... But, Angel on his own show, turned out to be great. I really like Angel now. I love how Angel can be really funny, he's got the dorkiest most pointless humor ever and I just love that..

LOL This question was probably answered before it was even asked lol He was so much better in angel for the simple fact we learnt how geeky and dorky (i.e. human) angel actually was. He became a person rather than a freaky vampire who followed teenage girls round everywhere because he loved them

I liked him in both, but I have to say, his role, and his acting were WAY better in Angel. When I re-watch early seasons of Buffy, I am like wow, Hello, big difference. Plus Angel had a more serious vibe that fit his character better. Angel as a character was definitely destined to be more than the Slayers vamp boyfriend.

I think that he was better on Angel the Series. I really do not like Angel in the Buffy seasons, but I have not problem watching AtS. I think having his own show really made a difference and made me like the character more.

I liked him much better in Angel. He seemed more...real on Angel. His character got more depth and he wasn't just broody all the time. He became funnier, smarter, stronger. Basically everything about him was better on Angel. Like a few people have said, he didn't really even have a personality when he was on Buffy. On Angel, his character was developed more and he became much more interesting.

I love him in both.. And I fell in love with him on Buffy ...but... Angel is much better because it shows his funnier side. On Buffy it was all Love and Drama with him and few spots that would make you smirk(most of those were when he was Angelus on there) And on Angel theres many great points that make you bust out laughing.

Angel is one of my least favorite characters in Jossverse, but I have to admit that he was a lot more interesting on ANGEL than he was on BUFFY.
Note: I may not have liked him very much as a character, but he was interesting.

I'm not exactly sure which was one was literally better on, I think he's a great actor on both shows.
Though, Angel was his show and he obviously played a more obvious and more important role within the series.
On Buffy however, he played a very important part in season 2, being the big bad pretty much. I think he's a good actor on both and it's hard to decipher his best role.
Some may say Buffy, some may say Angel for some obvious reasons like because it's his show and because he was on for two more seasons than on Buffy.

Got to say I think Angelus was more emotionally freaky on Buffy because of what happened between them. I love when Angelus calls up Buffy in season four and he's dissapointed to discover that it's Faith in town. But as a whole I think David got more material to work with on his own show, and a lot more depth. However I did like Angel more on Buffy, as a person.. it's like they increased his broodyness and isolated him even more over the series making him grumpier as the show went.

Angel. On Buffy he was just...a little on the lame side, especially in season one. He never was really good until he became Angelus. On Angel he started to shine, especially in the second season.

I agree with those who say that he was better on Angel because he was a well-rounded person. On Buffy, he was either broody puppy-love guy or big bad Angelus. Not many layers there (although I love Angelus).

I think as the character Angel he was better on 'Angel', but really that was sort of ineveitable. He was cast member on Buffy but the lead on Angel, he had to be given more to work with. However, the best Angelus moments are all on Buffy. She seemed to bring the best out of him. It would have been interesting if it had been Buffy who came to save the day in season 4 instead of Faith...

Way better on Angel in my opinion.
Helped alot more people, was alot less needy and afraid.
Plus Angel turned out to be a strong leader.
And fought the good fight saving the world numerous more times.
lol ^_^ Much cooler on Angel as well

I would definatly say Angel because he is actually funny and interesting on his own show. He was always a bit annoying and lurky in Buffy. He was always in the shadows and did not seem to have much of a persoanallity on Buffy but on Angel he was hilarious and intresting.

Angel was better on his own. On Buffy, he was little more than her side kick, overpowered by Buffy's power and personality.

Yeah, I always thought the portrayal of Angelus was much more impressive on Buffy. In Angel that side of the character was used to move the storyline along whereas in Buffy it WAS the storyline which allowed for much more scope. He just seemed a lot more sinister, twisted and generally evil on BtVS.
As for Angel himself I love him on both shows equally for different reasons. In Buffy we primarily saw him as a romantic interest for Buffy which allowed us to see him deal with being IN the world for the first time in a long while, dealing with the concept of his dark past, his sweet side that Buffy brought out in him etc.
In Angel we got to see him as an individual and although he was very broody a lot of the time as always, this show allowed us to see the comedic side of him as well. It was a lot more human Angel that we saw on the spin-off whereas on Buffy, I think, we were more often reminded of the fact he was a vampire due to how much it always affected Buffy's life

While I loved him on both shows, he definitely was better on Angel. Although I'm a Bangel fan & love seeing them together, Angel on his own was much more interesting & fun to watch. I love watching him! A lot of my fave scenes on BtVS are when Angel is on screen.. with or without Buffy. So, him getting his own show & being able to expand on his personality & character was a real treat. *drool

apart from Angelus in season 2 he wasnt that important in Btvs, he was just some guy for buffy to be into, but in Ats, he got alot more interesting, he became more likable too. being out of buffys shadow done him good

Angel was definetly better on his own show. He had to be limited on Buffy to fit for her and show, but on Angel he had more freedom. My take on this anyways :)
The Kinslayer
06-04-2008, 07:14 AM
In Buffy Angel was limited. He needed an own show to grow as a character, not that he didnīt evolve on Buffy. I donīt think Angel was the one who got a shown of his own because he was the most beloved character. I think they saw great potential in him, but that they had gone so far as they could with him on Buffy. But that is only my own opinion of course. Itīs not like I a have a statement or something to back it up with. And itīs not like Angel was the only one who changed drasticly on that show. The same goes for Cordy and Wesley. Ok, itīs not like people didnīt change on Buffy. I just donīt think it was to the same extent, with Spike as the the obvious exception.
I donīt have a probelm with Angel in Buffy itīs just that he is way better on his own. So the conclusion is simple. Angel on Buffy = good, Angel on Angel on Angel = great. And therefore DB was better on Angel.

Angel really gave him a chance for character development and I think that he did wonderful on Angel. He really didn't have much time on Buffy for character development but Angel made David shine. Angel gets my vote.

The Angel from Buffy and the Angel from his own show felt like two different characters. Angel obviously had more of a personality on his own show and was more likeable. But I also like the Angel from Buffy too but for different reasons, cos as I said, I look at them like they are different characters.

I thought his character was better in the series Angel, that's maybe because he was the central figure.
Thank god he was better on Buffy and Angel than he is on Bones, cos last night he came across as being a right pratt.

I think he was better in Angel. We got to know Angel more in this show. He is more interesting(he's central character so the show pretty much concentrates on him)and funny character(we hardly can see him in Buffy joking or so)
In Buffy he's just all mysterious but in Angel he becomes closer to us.

see, i dont know. I think season 1 of buffy he was pretty, well, amateurish as an actor but then, that makes sense given his lack of history acting. But i loved the character in 2 and 3, and i don't know if i completely love Angel as this joke-filled, out going vamp as much as i love him as dark, sexy, brooding vamp.

On his own series, no doubt. Not only did he finally have enough screentime to develop his character on, but I guess you've already noticed from my posts that S3 Bangel annoys the cr*p out of me, I let out a sigh of relief when that was over.

I prefered him on Buffy. He was good in his own show, but after seeing it all, then re-watching the first3 buffys, i somehow liked him
better than the first time i watched it(btvs). I think Buffy seasons 2 and 3 were the 'Golden age' of the whole Btvs/Ats series, and its when almost all the characters, including Angel, were at their best.
