Ok, so I'm watching Selfless and when Anya introduced herself to D'Hoffryn, she tells him her real name and it is pronounced like "Odd".

Kind of funny considering that's how she's always been perceived by others...

Im more intrigued by this information......was it the inspiration for Joss.....i found out a few months ago then this thread made me look it up online again.

Aud the Deep-Minded (Icelandic: also known as Unn or Aud Ketilsdatter) (834-900 CE) was the second daughter of Ketil Flatnose and Yngvid Ketilsdatter. She married Olaf the White of Dublin, "King" of Ireland. After Olaf's death, the audacious Aud travelled the British Isles, marrying off her daughters to important landowners, until she finally settled near her brothers in Iceland, herself founding Hvammur keggjadal (commonly translated as "Hvamm").

I know there arent many similarities at all....but the names and the fact Anya's vengeance were on women scorned(could one of her daughters have been scorned).....just putting an outlandish theory out there:elf:

The Anya Aud is supposed to live in Sweden. Now, I know she speaks English with D'Hoffryn, and I thought about the Aud/odd thing too... But even though I'm not sure what the proper Swedish pronounciation of "Aud" would be, it's nothing like odd... But yeah, I'm pretty sure Joss did the name thing deliberately, sure sounds like a Joss thing to do, and probably couldn't have been a coincidence.

I don't think the Aud/odd thing was a coincidence, but it's very funny!

The Anya Aud is supposed to live in Sweden.

Oh I'd totally forgotten that part. They actually speak some Swedish in that one, well at keast they're better than they guys in Titanic.

Can't really remember, but I think that in the commentary they say someting about this Aud actually existing, Or at least there was at some point a viking Aud and she was money crazy or something like that. I'll come back to you when I've listened to the commentart again.

I personally don't think of Anya as odd, but definitely, that is an interesting piece of information.

I've always thought of Anya however, as a comedian. She always has the funny thing to say and usually she speaks them at the exact moment...which makes the scene perfect. She definitely adds to the show...I was sad when Anya died in season 7 but she did request it...
