So I bought the DVD's of Firefly yesterday and watched them all, I was so impressed, The characters were amazing, the storylines were amazing the general look of the show was amazing, the script was amazing, and so I just don’t understand how it got cancelled! I am not a sci-fi fan at all, I got bored in the star wars movies and I can't stand Star Trek, but this show just surpassed my expectations completely, the Sci-fi stuff was put on the back burner to the storylines. So can someone tell me how the show did not do better, what did people not like about it?

Also the way I watched it on the DVD was they way Joss wanted it to be seen, I read that somewhere, so I looked up the way it aired on T.V. and I am so confused as to why it was shown so out of order? Also was this show put on at really weird times, and did it keep changing, I hate fox, I don’t understand why they would pick up a show and then change the way the creator, who they know is successful at big story arcs, wanted them to be shown.

Err im annoyed! I just don’t understand that network...

you notice the eps are out of order !? I think that was....dumb among other things.

Yeah.....don't we all feel that way! *&^%$ FOX! I'm quite upset with them!

They showed the eps out of order, then put it in the Friday nite at 8 pm 'death' slot......changed the time slot a couple of times....and then sat back wondering why people didn't catch on! And I read somewhere that these people courted Joss, urging him to create another series. I mean, let's face it, Joss is a successful guy, right? Then, when he does, and it's GREAT....they mangle it!

I just know that many people I know haven't even watched one Firefly episode... Some of the BtVS fans I've talked to (not my friends), never gave Firefly a chance because it's science fiction and stuff, and they think they won't like it. Some of the science fiction fans I've talked to never gave Firefly a chance 'cause they aren't BtVS/Angel fans and don't think Joss will make a good science fiction show. Which is obviously just crazy thinking but yeah... So many people just never gave it a chance...

I know, I also know many people that likes BtVS but for some reason have decided that they don't like Serenity. And yea I must admit, I didn't think I would like it either at first, but it was Joss and I just had to watch it anyway and I'm so glad I did (even if I watch it kinda out of order at first because I didn't know what the right order was, so annoying) 'cause now I love it. But no one will belive me, so I will be all alone to the Serenity premiere here in sweden..

Aw, when is the premiere in Sweden again? You should get here and watch it with me and Ape :( (My dad's gonna come here and see it, lol.)
Maybe you can find some people at buffyforum.se to see it with ;)
Nah, I'm sorry Joamna, it's no fun how people in Sweden think Serenity/Firefly is even worse than BtVS (and they so don't like BtVS)... Why does Sweden hate Joss?

It was all Joss's fault, thinkin' people would watch a show because it was great. What was the last successful western on TV? Anybody even remember? It wasn't The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. (I know, you were gonna mention that, but it was cancelled due to ... low ratings.) Could've been the coolest show ever, but who watched it?

And expecting the episodes to be shown in order? What was the man thinkin?

I know! It's so crappy.

Shitty thing is that I didn't hear of Firefly 'til they were canceled so they never gained some ratings from my TV.

Just watched the Firefly pilot again.

Man, FOX should have promoted the crap out this pilot, aired it as the first ep, aired it at least of couple of times, then drop Firefly into the...Friday night death slot, lol. I actually have fond memories of me and my roommates religiously watching the X-Files (Friday nights), then going out to party and have fun...

Brisco County Jr apparently comes to DVD sometime this year...

The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. was a short-lived western television series with science fiction elements, starring Bruce Campbell as Brisco County Jr., an ex-Harvard lawyer turned bounty hunter. It could be considered a thematic descendant of the 1960s show The Wild Wild West, since it combined elements of the science fiction and Western genres. It was one of the few western shows aired in the 1990s.

The series ran for 27 episodes from August 27, 1993 to May 20, 1994 on the FOX television network on Fridays at 8pm, otherwise known as the Friday night death slot, just before The X-Files which also made its debut in 1993.

I just got around to watching Firefly on DVD, & of course Serenity, and I have to ask myself, why the hell I didn't watch this show sooner?! It really is such a shame that it was never really given a chance - imagine if we had been lucky enough for it to have run for 5, 6 or 7 years like Buffy & Angel did.

Brilliant stories, characters and filming but then I'd expect nothing less from Joss Whedon.

The only thing I was left with after watching this show, was a yearning to see more! :(

I, like other before me, have just watched the entire box set. And i love it! The storylines....characters, and the humour!! I loved the humour. (why is my computer telling my im spelling humour wrong? am i spelling it wrong?)

Anyways, I have some questions (i haven't watched Serenity yet, but i will so dont tell me, if the answers are in the movie). do we get to find out who the Shephard really is? Does Inara leave? Does Kaylee and the doctor get together? Do we find out what River can really do? Does Mal and Inara get together? Does Jayne wear that cute orange fuzzy hat again?

if you find anyone who has not seen a single episode of Firefly - just ask them what they thought of Serenity and i will bet dollar to donut every time they loved it!

that's what I'm finding more and more...people who haven't seen Firefly loved Serenity, then they watch Firefly and freak out about how amazing the series was.

Please someone bring the show back I just want Mal and Inara get together! For the love of god why!

Black Eye Guy, I just finished watching the DVDs about 2 days ago, and everything you said is what I was thinking while watching the show. I thought it was great and it deserved more than the crappy fox treatment.

I'm a huge BtVS and Angel fan, and I'm a big fan of the books as well, so when I watch Serenity and found out Joss Whedon had made it I was so excited! I didn't even realize that Serenity was spawned from a cancelled TV show. But when I did....I didn't get to watch it!

So last night I hired out a few eps from the local DVD store and was hooked! I was so impressed by the show that I actually went out this mornign and bought the entire series! I can't wait to get home and watch it and the special features...I'm a special features whore! lollers.

I love Firefly and I can't believe it got axed. The first time I watched I was a little so-so about it because it was a little strange having audio from a show like Deadwood played over footage of a science fiction show. But I love it now!

As you can see I am now a huge fan of Firefly. I'm lucky to have bought the DVD's because well it will never be aired in Australia.

I've recently just watched all of Firefly and also Serenity in the past week or so, and now my annoyance is settling in about that fact that it was cancelled :( Hopefully Joss will get to do more with Firefly/Serenity one day.

I also watched Serenity again with my dad and he loved it, so now he's thinking of watching Firefly :D

I'm annoyed with the Sci-Fi channel cause they picked up the re-runs but didn't pick up the show! Don't they realize that something like Firefly will get them much better ratings than Cerebus or whoever the monster of the week is?! And it seems very condescending . . . the show's good enough for them to run re-runs but not good enough for them to revive it. Snort.

I think I have watched every second of footage that is on my DVD's in the past week....I soooo hate that they cancelled it! Blondie Bear you're so right, if they can run the re-run's then why not get Joss to make another season? Sometimes I really think that Networks are the dumbest people alive who know nothing about the Television industry!

I guess I'm just going to have to do with my DVD box set and the fact that I'm writing my own second season in Fan Fiction. Take that FOX!

Even if they got Joss to make another season, they'd end up jerking it around to death like they did the first one. I wish Joss ran his own damn network......seriously.

I would pay a premium for Joss TV. I'd much rather have that than, say HBO. But yeah, if Joss had a network and he did Buffy, Angel, and Firefly reruns as well as new shows (like Dollhouse and some of the Buffyverse spin-offs that he always wanted to do), I would only need that channel and ABC to be happy!

Maybe Joss should do without the networks. He's popular enough that he could get outside investing. Maybe he should start a channel online and stream video - with commercials, of course. Then, he'd have the freedom to do as he chose. I'm sure a ton of people would be willing to use that medium.

You should go tell him that!! Him and Tim Minear have alot of shows under there belts. Just throw them all on one channel ^_^ But it would get repetitive after a while because they may have alot... but not toooo much. Maybe like you said when Online t.v. picks up more this could happen ^_^ :coolman: : king :

One word: FOX.

They don't know what good TV is. They've canceled Tru Calling, Drive, AND Firefly. All AMAZING shows that are somehow related to Joss. Coincidence? Plus, Dollhouse (the new Joss show) is coming on Fox. Hope it doesn't get canceled. Also, Bones (David Boreanz) is on Fox, but it's been doing good, although it has been pushed around by American Idol numerous times.

Basically, it's ratings were too low. They didn't give it a chance.

This move by FOX was what finally turned me away from that network. They're too boneheaded to realize a good series when they have one. I never watched the shows while they were on TV because I didn't even know they were on. Then when I went to a military school one of my new friends there started talking about it because Serenity was getting ready to come out in theaters. We saw the movie together and I loved it. I wanted more. I then watched the series and got immediately hooked. I bought the DVD set last year. This show was awesome! Joss Whedon was at his best with this series. Malcolm was a great conflicted character. Jayne was the typical dumb hilarious action brute every great action should have. Walsh was the sarcastic pilot that was almost reminiscent of Han Solo. Kaylee was just... Gosh... Cute... And I loved the mystery of River and the psychosis complications she was having. It just frustrates me still to no end that once again Joss got screwed by another network. I've said it once and I'll say it again, I hope the WB/CW and FOX suffer from poor ratings and have to disband.

This is a really good show, but I'm not convinced that it would have taken off no matter what FOX had done to promote it. Better shows than this get canceled all the time, it's just a fact that the majority of viewers don't like uniqueness very much. Perhaps if the show had come out a couple of years later, and aired behind an entire season of American Idol, it would have caught on. Otherwise, I think the only way this would have been considered a modest success is if it had aired on The WB.

The CW didn't do a damn thing to Joss Whedon.

The WB didn't do too much harm either. They weren't willing to pay 20th Century Fox's prices for a license fee after season five. Big deal! UPN picked it up. No harm done. The only mistake they made was pulling the plug on Angel but they did give Joss some forewarning, now didn't they? And they did acknowledge the fact it was a mistake later on, which most networks would not do.

And FOX isn't even run by the same people any more, so unless they go screw around Dollhouse people should just lay off. :)

While I do think Fox did some MAJOR screw ups with the mixing up the episodes and then moving the nights, I have to admit, even if they hadn't and had promoted it...even during everything I watch, I doubt I would have watched it.
MAYBE...depending if they showed ENOUGH commericials and the right kind of commercials. But, I'm not so much Sci-Fi oriented and Sci-Fi/Western wouldn't have done much to attract me. I would have been FAR more likely to watch Buffy, and never did that either.

I only watched it AFTER I had seen Angel and then seen all of Buffy....and only because of Joss.

Personally, I think it should have been shipped DIRECTLY to the Sci-Fi Channel...not passing Fox or collecting $200.
