Did anybody else find it hard to watch Gina Torres in either firefly/serenity or angel? Me and princess_zombie both found it hard, she always saw Zoe as Jasmine, and I saw Jasmine as Zoe. Same with Captain Mal, for the longest time we both saw him as Caleb.

Not really. I find the characters so completeley different and same goes for the performances of the actors (well obviously both brilliant, but other than that).

However it is funny to look at them again when you've grown to love them as Zoe and Mal and see them as the big bads.

No, I didn't really have problems with the crossover there...what I am having problems with is watching Alias season 1 on DVD (never watched Alias before) and seeing Gina play a Cuban spy! She's awesome, but I keep thinking "It's Zoe.,....with straight hair and an accent!!!!!!"

Oh I wanna see those episodes again. Everything is so much more fun when you somehow feel something for the person playing the character.

But back to the subject again, I actually saw it in the wrong order. I watched BtVS and AtS before I watched Firefly and even though they had had quite a lot a screen time I never really noticed them the way I did in Firefly and then watching Buffy and Angel again it was just like I said, fun.

Just like JollyApe I saw it in the wrong order, but I never had any problems with watching them in the different series. It was more of the opposite for me actually, I enjoy their characters in BtVS more now after I've seen Firefly.

I didn't have a problem seperating them at all - but I like their Firefly characters much better than their B/A ones.

i kinda watched both at the same time, my firefly DVD's arrived during buffy S7 and angel S4, so it was a little confusing for a while!! def perfer mal and zoe to caleb and jasmine, but seeing them playing these parts that are SO completely different from each other, it just shows what great actors these guys are!

and, on a side note, while i was watching mal and caleb for the first time, i kept referring to him a 'Johnny', 'cause i LOVE 'two guys and a girl', which is the first time i laid eyes on Nathan Fillion...and i can tell you, it was love at first sight!! :love10:

Yes, it was hard!!! I love the character of Zoe, but whenever I see Gina Torres I think of Jasmine, which sucks because I hate Jasmine. But hopefully, if I watch Firefly enough times that little problem will go away. :)

I never really had a problem like this, because the characters are really different. Only problem I have is that in writing Hamilton in fanfic, I sometimes insert lines that are more Jayne-like.

I first saw Gina on Hercules, then started seeing her regularly on Cleopatra 2525. Whenever I see her, I think... Zoe, then Hel--her character on Cleo. I think Zoe's her best character anyway.

I have that problem with trying to make Caleb sound like Caleb and not Mal, there are a few times throughout the Firefly series and the movie that I'm just waiting for him to say "bitch" like he does in Buffy when he's all bloodied.

Heh yea I agree. I never watched Alias before, but have been watching season 1 (and 4 ) during the last week.. And Gina is really cool as this Anna person, but it's a little bit weird, heh.

I never liked Jasmine though, but I liked Gina so I was just relieved to see her as Zoe.. since I like Zoe so much more as a character..
When it comes to Mal/Caleb though.. I liked both of the characters, although Nathan is obviously way more Mal now than Caleb... for me..

I watched Angel and Buffy before Firefly, one of the first comments I made when I saw an ep of Firefly was that I had contextual issues with the cast (Jasmine, Caleb, and Hamilton walking down a street together)

Although now I don't really.

I just got firefly on dvd (or christmas)and have watched the first episode serenity. I was a little apprehensive about the characters of Mal and Zoe as I was never the biggest fan of Caleb or Jasmine.

I have found there performances to be quite frankly amazing. There characters are so different from the ones played in Buffy and Angel.

Having watched Buffy and Angel first I would've expected to feel the same way as others, only seeing Gina as Jasmine, or Nathan as Caleb, but because of me not really liking their characters on Buffy or Angel,I think I will always think of them as Mal and Zoe, from Firely!

Like the Triumvarate of Evil, huh? I never even thought of them that way when I saw all three of them together.....I think it was the different costumes for me.

You know, it would've been fun to hear Mal call the Operative "bitch," but I think Joss didn't do because it would've been too easy a laugh and one of those things that become grating on repeat viewings.

I didn't have a problem distinguising between them because all of the characters Gina has played were very different. Anna Espinosa - Russian spy; Zoe Washburne - Warrior Woman; Jasmine - evil God. The same goes for Nathan. Mal and Caleb were very different characters. I do have to say, though, because I love Firefly, I will always relate all of the actors to the roles they played on that show.

Gina is a fantastic actress and I've never had a hard time watching her and believing her as a certain character. I was first exposed to her on the syndicated cheesefest "Cleopatra 2525" (incredibly corny show, but Sam Raimi's influence perhaps makes it likeable). And then came "Alias", "Angel", etc.

I do find it odd how all these actors keep working together, all because of the Slayerverse (but I like it because I think they're all great actors).
