Here's the first fanfic I ever wrote in English.... :D I hope you'll enjoy it ! (cross fingers...)

Chapter 1

"Hey ! "
" Hey ! "
" How are you ? "
" Fine !! "
Of course she was fine. She couldn’t be any other way today, it was her first day at school after 2 months of lonely holidays with her grandparents. She felt alive again in the company of her friends.
“I hope we’ll have good teachers because last year they were so boring!!!”
“I heard that Mr. James is very nice and HOT above all!”
“Is he that British one?”
“Yes, he is!!”
“It’ll be great! I looove British accents so much!!! And what will he teach us?”
“Physical Education and he’ll also be in the jury for the cheerleader competition”
“Oh… OH!!! Hurry up! School starts in five minutes! I don’t want to be late for my first day!”
They entered the building of their new school.
Isobel was a 16 year old girl, not tall, just normal as she would say, and athletic. She had long blond hair and wonderful green eyes. Her friends tell her they're like two emeralds, looking at them. She had fulfilled all her wishes except one: to become a cheerleader. But this could happen very soon, since the competition was due to take place today.

“Good morning. I’m Mr. Oliver James. I’m your teacher of physical education.”
“Isn’t he just as I described him?” Jenny said.
“Yes, you were totally right.”
“Today, I just want to see your athletic skills, so we’ll just do some simple exercises.
Isobel, come here. You’ll start this one.”
And after an hour of shattering exercises the lesson finally ended.

“I think he has a crush on you, Isobel!!”
“You’re kidding! I don't think it means he has a crush on me, just because he asked me to begin!”
“Maybe not, but the way he was looking at you means a lot…”
“Jenny!!! Don’t forget that he takes part in the jury today! You’re stressing me by saying that! You know I’m not very confident although I’ve been training the whole summer.”
“Sorry Isobel, I didn’t mean to destabilize you.”
“It’s ok… In 10 minutes we’ll know if I’m good enough to be a cheerleader…”

“Isobel Wood, said Mr. James.”
“Here I am!”
“Please, take your place and show us what you can do.”
Isobel danced wonderfully until she looked at Mr. James. His dark eyes were looking at her. That was the only thing that could make her lose her concentration. And the only thing that she swore not to do. She landed on the wrong foot after her last jump and fell as the music ended. She didn’t perform the perfect dance until the end. Why did she do this stupid thing?

She was putting her clothes in her bag as Mr. James called her. She raised her head and looked with astonishment at him. “What does he want?” she wondered. She left her bag and went to him.
“Hi Isobel! How are you?”
“I’m… fine Mr. James…”
“Yes, yes… Huh… You performed quite well! I think you’ll join the cheerleader team.”
“Are you making fun of me? I made the biggest mistake I could, you are telling me that I'll join the team?!”
“Yes, that is what I think. We were all very impressed and you only did a one little mistake.”
“Oh! Thank you Mr. James! I’m SO happy!” And she started to run to pick her bag and join her friends.
“Miss Isobel, please!!” called the teacher.
“Yes?”
“Could you come back please? I didn’t actually finish.”
“Sorry Mr. James.”
“Erm…” He looked around at the people that were there. “I have to tell you something but in a less crowded place if it were possible…”
What is he talking about? Thought Isobel…
“A less crowded place?”
“Yes. It is very important. I’d like to discuss that at my home if you don’t mind. I don’t know any better place to discuss that matter.”
He must be kidding, she thought.
“Are you asking me for a… date?”
“A date?” He looked at her confused. “No, of course not! It’ll be a “professional” meeting.”
“Professional ?” Those Brits are really strange…
“I’m sorry to tell you this in that way but please, believe me. It’s a matter of an extreme importance. I NEED to meet you. It’s… a matter of life or death!”
Mr. James’ face was grave.
“You’re frightening me Mr. James!”
“I’m sorry Isobel but…” he took off his glasses and cleaned them. “You have to trust me. Please…”
“Ok then, she said. But if you try to make moves on me, I’ll kick your ass! I swear it!”
“Oh… Well… So… I’ll wait for you at the street corner at 3pm.”
“Ok, I will see you later Mr. James!”
And she went out of the gymnasium
“Pfew, that was harder than I thought, said Mr. James to himself. But I did it…”

Chapter 2

“Where is he?” wondered Isobel… "He said it was not a date, but if he doesn’t show up in the next five minutes I'll think he's standing me up!" As she said that, she saw Mr. James running out of the building.
“I’m sorry Isobel, I was kept back by a student. That way please.”
She followed him, not knowing why she trusted him.
“Here we are. Please, come in,” he said, opening the door of a quite big house. Isobel wondered if he was married and had children but she didn’t dare ask him.
“Please, sit down. Do you want some water or juice?”
“No, thank you. I only have 10 minutes, my mom will worry if I come home too late.”
“Oh, sorry… Yes… So, I guess I should now tell you what I meant to tell you.”
He is REALLY strange. And he's always saying, “I’m sorry”… It is becoming worrying. Maybe I shouldn’t have trust him. What will my Mom say when I tell her about that? Will she…
“Ms Wood? Are you listening to me?”
“Oh! Sorry…Go ahead!”
“It may sound very odd or like a joke but all that I will say is true. Isobel, you’re the Chosen One”
“The what?”
“The Chosen One. In every generation, a Slayer is born; one girl in the whole world with the physical strength and skill to fight the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. Your duty is to fight vampires and all kind of demons to free this world of all the forces of evil. And I’m your watcher.”
“Do you think this is funny?”
“What?”
“Telling me all that stuff? I may be blonde but I'm not stupid! You are trying to impress me. I don’t know why but…”
“No! You’re totally wrong! I’m not making fun of you. All I said is true. I know it may be hard to understand. But, since the previous slayer is dead you have to take over her duty now.”
“Is “dead”? How old was she?”
“19 I think… I’m not sure but…”
“19! And you want me to become a Slayer! If your story is true, all this monsters and things seem much too dangerous. I don’t want to die now that all my wishes are fulfilled. And guess what? To become a Slayer was not one of them!”
“You are not A slayer. You are THE Slayer.”
“Sorry, but I have to go home now. It was nice to meet you Mr. James”
She went quickly to the door and opened it.
“Please. Think about it. You don’t have the choice. We’ll have a talk tomorrow. Same time, same place ok?”
She didn’t answer and shut the door.

Chapter 3

“Hello Honey! How was your day?”
As weird as possible, she thought.
“Nice Mom!”
“Nice? Is that all you have to say? I thought you’d be more talkative, you were so excited this morning! Did something happen? You look so tired!”
“Huh… The cheerleader competition was very tough… I think I’d better go to my bedroom and have some rest.”
“But it’s only 4pm!”
“Huh… Yeah… But you know… First days at school are often very nerve-wracking…”
Isobel ran upstairs.

“Can you believe this? I was told today that I'm a slayer… Oh, no, THE Slayer! It’s a kind of super girl with the power to defeat all the forces of evil. Oh, and I forgot the best part, it’s the kind of superhero that dies young…. Don’t you have something to say?”
All her pets were looking at her, impassive.
She took Pyro, her favorite teddy Bear.
“And you, what do you say? That tomorrow will be another day? That I dreamt… Maybe you're right… Maybe I should call Jenny and tell her about this? No…. I think it’d be better not to.” She lay down on her bed and fell asleep.

“Honey! Wake up or you’ll be late!!”
“What time is it?”
“It’s 7 o’clock”
“What? Aw… I'm supposed to meet Jenny at 7.20…”
Isobel jumped out of bed, got dressed and ran downstairs.
“See ya Mom!”

“Hello Isobel! Did you run?”
“Huh, yes…I didn’t hear the alarm.”
“Well...this piece of news will wake you up!”
Oh no… does she know about my meeting with Mr. James?
“Yes?”
“I made a mistake yesterday. Mr. James is not the only British teacher. We have another one. This one teaches History!!!! Why are you making this face? I thought you’ll be excited just as I am?”
“Oh… That’s… nice…”
“Nice? Are you sick or something?”
“No, I’m alright. Come on Jenny.”
And they remained silent until they reached the classroom.
“Good morning. My name is Mr. Matthew Baker. I’m your history teacher for this year. I want you to do a presentation. The subject will be free. Does anyone of you want to be the first?”
Isobel raised her hand.
“Oh, that’s unusual. What’s your name?”
“Isobel Wood”
“So, do you have a subject in mind already?”
“Yes, the Revolutionary War.”
“Great! Come with after the class, I’ll show some good books at the library you could use.”
Oh no… I don’t want this day to be like the other one!
The lesson ended and Isobel went to Mr. Baker with anxiety.
“Don’t look so scared! I won’t bite you, you know. I actually want to talk to you in some quieter place and I think the library is a good one since nobody's here.”
“What? Do you want to tell me that I’m a slayer? I already know!”
“Wh…what!!! Who told you!?”
“I think a friend of yours… He explained to me all about the prophecy thing and that I have no other choice than to accept my destiny…”
“So.. It’ll make things easier since you already know. And…What have you decided?”
“No.”
“No?”
“No. I don’t want to do this job.”
“It’s not a job!”
“I don’t care what it is. I just don’t want to put me and my family in danger.”
“Isobel, please consider that you’ll not be doing this for you but for all the people that are not aware of the danger that surrounds them.”
“Leave me alone please…”
“Ok Isobel… I don’t want to rush you… Just one thing. Who was the person that told you about your destiny?”
“Mr. James. The Physical Education teacher.”
And she turned back.
“Mr. James… Hum… Let's talk to him…” And he went into the staff room.

Chapter 4

“I’m looking for Mr. James. Is he here?”
“Mr. James? No, he isn’t, you’ll find him at the gym.”
“Thank you.” He made his way towards the gym.
As he was walking he suddenly found himself face to face with a man who looked quite like him: about 5'10" tall, short dark hair and glasses. The only thing that could single them out was their eye color, as Mr. James’ were black, Mr. Baker’s were blue.
“Brother? What the hell are you doing here?” exclaimed Mr. Baker.
“What the hell are YOU doing here?”
“I? I was sent by the council to find the Slayer since we haven’t heard from you, we thought she had killed you!”
“Damn! I forgot about it… But now we have a problem. There are two of us telling her the same thing. We must form a plan otherwise we’ll never comply with our duty and the council will sack us!!!”
“Don’t worry about it. I already thought of something… Since each of us has already told her who we are let just say this: as the council had foreseen that she would not trust us, it sent two of us to make it more convincing. You know… If two persons are saying the same thing it has to be true in some way.”
“Yes, yes. You’re right. Besides, we don’t have any other choice. It’s that or we’ll die.”
“So, find the Slayer and make her see sense!”
But the two brothers didn’t notice that somebody was spying on them…
"How can I convince her? How can…”
“Mr. James... " Somebody whispered.
" Who’s there? "
He turned and saw Isobel.
“Oh, it’s you!”
“I’d like to talk to you. Can we go to your classroom? I think it’ll be a better place to discuss what you know…”
“Sure!”
They entered the classroom.
" After I met Mr. Baker, who’s your colleague I bet, I thought about all that's happened. I said to myself that, if two of you are here, that must mean this Slayer stuff has to be something very important. So I'm deciding to be less selfish and to take over the duty. But I was afraid that, if I refuse it, they’ll send a third “watcher,” as you call yourself, to try to persuade me…. But what exactly is a “watcher”? "
“The watchers are sent by the Council to look after the Slayer and to train her. I don’t really understand why they sent Mr. Baker but I guess we have to work together now.”
“So…Does this mean that I’ll have to deal with two Englishmen??”
“Huh… Yes… I’m afraid so…”
And they laughed.
“Let me tell you about your training. I’d like to start today. Or I’d better say tomorrow since I want you to meet us at the cemetery at midnight. Do you think you’ll manage to go out of your house or will I need to talk to your mother?”
“Are you kidding? This isn't the first time I've gone out at night you know! But why the cemetery?”
“Because there's a vampire nest there.”
“A nest? Do you think I’ll be safe?”
“Not really, but I don’t know any better way to improve your skills.”
“Ok. I believe you. See you tonight Mr. Watcher number one!! "

“Were you talking to …”
“…Isobel. Yes, brother, I did it. Everything’s going just as the Council planned…”

Chapter 5

“Really? Everything’s following the Council’s plan?”
“Yes. She took up her Slayer duty and agreed to meet us at the cemetery…”
“At the cemetery?? Are you mad? She’ll die as soon as we enter the cemetery if we bring her there! She knows nothing about vampires and demons! Slayers go to the cemetery only after 3 days of training at least! You know what Oliver… You’d better go back to England and read the Watcher diaries. Now that she accepted her condition, I’ll do the rest.”
“You’re maybe right… The Council made a mistake. I’m too inexperienced. So Brother, let me tell you good luck.”
“Bye and take care of you!”
“Now I have to find my Slayer”… thought Mr. Baker.

Meanwhile, Isobel met with her friend, Jenny, and went to the cafeteria.
“How do you find our new teachers, Isobel?” asked Jenny.
“They are funny. Especially the English one.”
“And did those English teachers already tell you about your destiny?”
“W-what? What are you talking about?”
“You know what I’m talking about… They’ll ask you to meet them at the cemetery but you have to pay attention because it’s a trap. They want to kill you.”
“Hey! Wait a minute Jenny! First, tell me this: how do you know about all that stuff?”
“Let’s go for a walk. I’ll explain it all to you.”
They went out of the building and sat on a bench.
“First, congrats. You’ve become the Slayer, the only “human” person demons fear.”
“Uh… Thank you…”
“Now, let me tell you something about me. I was sent by the Council to look after you. They knew that someone would try to kill you as soon as you were called and they were right. I couldn’t tell you about that before because they swore me to silence. But the most important is that I warned you in time.”
“Now I understand why they were so insisting… But they both told me the Council sent them!”
“And they said the truth. But it’s not the Watcher Council that sent them. It’s the Nemesis Council, named after the goddess of vengeance. The demons wanted to take revenge on the Slayers, to kill all the Slayers and end the Slayer line.… So, you’ll have to be careful. The Watcher Council wants to know where their headquarters is so pretend you believe him when he tells you he’s your watcher and go to the cemetery with him.”
“So… Who’s my true watcher?”
“They killed your watcher. But don’t worry; your new one is expected to arrive from England in a few days.”
“Oh… From England? That’s curious… It is a tradition right?”
“Yes!”
“Ok, thank you Jenny. Now I know what I have to do… I just hope he won’t try to kill me today because I’ll not be able to kill him!”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be here to watch your back!”
“So… See you Jenny! I have to go home now and tell my mother that I’m going out tonight!”

Chapter 6

As Isobel was running out of the building, she collided with Mr. Baker.
“About time” he said.
“Sorry?”
“Yes. I was looking for you. I wanted to tell you we don’t meet at the cemetery anymore. I’d prefer to talk to you at the library if you don’t mind.”
“Huh… I’m sorry but I can’t Mr. Baker.”
“What?”
“I can’t meet you today. I have just remembered that my Mom has forbidden me to go out after school. I have to go straight back home after class and do my homework. I’m sorry Mr. Baker, I have to hurry now!” And she left him alone.
“It’s ok! We’ll meet tomorrow” Mr. Baker said. But she was too far away to hear him.

As soon as she entered her house, Isobel rushed to the phone and called Jenny.
“Hey Jenny!”
“Hey! You sound out of breath… Did you run? Did something happen? Did they try to attack you?”
“No. I’m ok. But there’s something weird… I don’t know how they did it but I think they heard about our conversation…”
“Huh? Why do you say that?”
“Because, as I was leaving school I bumped into Mr. Baker. He told me that he wanted us to meet at the library instead of the cemetery. I panicked and lied to him. I told him that I was stuck at home and and could not go out after school
“And what did he say?”
“I didn’t hear because I ran off.”
“Isobel! I told you to do EVERYTHING he wanted you to do! We might miss the chance to discover their headquarters!”
“I’m sorry Jenny, but…”
“No Isobel! You are The Slayer! Think about it! See you tomorrow.” And she hung up.

“She’s so childish and acts so thoughtless… And she was chosen to become the Slayer…”
Jenny fell asleep with this kind of thoughts that night.

Chapter 7

This time Isobel woke up earlier than usually. When she went down to the kitchen her mom was still asleep. She sat on a chair, in front of the window and felt suddenly different. Looking at the world outside, thinking that only “she” was able to defend it against all the demons, she suddenly felt older. Her mom woke her from her thoughts.
“Honey?”
“Oh… Hi Mom! How long have you been there?”
“I have just come down and saw you like that. I’m worried Isobel. Do you feel alright? You act really strange these days…”
“I’m ok Mom, really. Don’t worry!”

“Where can Jenny be?” Isobel had been waiting for her for 15 minutes. ”I think I’d better go.”
As she arrived at school she saw Jenny talking to other girls.
“Jenny? You’re here? I thought you were sick!”
“Not at all. Did you speak to one of the watchers?”
“No! I haven’t set a foot in the school yet”
“Don’t forget what I told you! And keep me posted about!”
“Ok…”

Isobel had been sitting in the library in front of Mr. Baker for an hour now. She wasn’t listening to him. She only thought about how this man who looked so helpful and who seemed to care about her might want to kill her. She was thinking about the way Jenny had acted today, about the feeling she had this morning. No, Jenny must have lied to her. Why? She could not fathom it but she was sure that this English man was her Watcher and that he told her the truth about who he was. She decided to tell him about Jenny eventually.
“Mr. Baker”
“Yes Isobel? Is there something you didn’t understand?”
“Are you my watcher?”
He starred at her with astonishment.
“Are you my watcher Mr. Baker?” repeated Isobel.
Mr. Baker’s face changed. Isobel was ready to jump out of her chair.
He moved suddenly towards her. She looked at him with determination, ready to fight him. But all her determination slipped away when she saw something in his left hand. It was a stake.
“Stake me.”
“What?”
“If you’re thinking that I’m a demon, a vampire, that I want to hurt you just take that stake.”
She took it starring at him, not knowing exactly what he expected her to do now.
“Isobel, there’s one thing you can be sure about. You’re The Slayer. If you believe that you also know whom you can trust. It’s inside of you. So, if your power tells to you I’m not your watcher, then just stake me.”
Isobel stood up, picked it up and threw it away.
“I don’t need this against you because I trust you.”
But Mr. Baker didn’t hear that. He was lying unconscious on the floor.

Chapter 8

“Mr. Baker! Mr. Baker! Did you… faint?!”
“No! Of course not! I just…lost consciousness. Hum… So… what were you saying before I… lost consciousness?”
“I said I trusted you.”
“Oh. Glad to hear that! But please explain me. Why did you doubt?”
“Jenny told me you were a demon who belongs to the Nemesis Council, a group whose aim is to destroy the Slayer line.”
“Jenny? Who is that?”
“She… was my best friend.”
“I now understand why you trusted her. But now you have to pay attention to all the people you meet. Now that you’re activated every demon wants to kill you. That’s why you have to learn quickly.”
“And when will we go to the cemetery?”
“As soon as you’ll be able to stake someone blindfold.”
“Oh, great! So I can make an appointment with vampires for tomorrow?”
“Huh… Maybe. But you have to listen to me and do everything I tell you to do. So first, let’s take a closer look at vampires’ habits…”
And till late in the night, Mr. Baker taught Isobel how to save the World.
At midnight Mr. Baker finally ended his training. Isobel was exhausted but ready to fight.
“So Isobel, I’ll let you go home now. I can’t go with you because I have to hide all these weapons. Please, phone me as soon as you arrive. I want to be sure that you’re safe!”
“You shouldn’t be so anxious Mr. Baker! Am I not the Slayer?” And she left him.
When she came home she immediately went up to her room and took the phone.
“Jenny? Isobel speaking. We’ll go to the cemetery tomorrow.” And she hung up.

Chapter 9

“Are you ready for tonight Isobel?”
“Yes I am.”
“You don’t seem very excited about it or nervous…”
“No. I know I’m ready for it, so I just wait patiently to kill for the first time.”
“Oh… To kill… By the way, you didn’t call me last night as I asked you to do. I was worried you know.”
“Oh… Right…I… Hum…. Kind of forgot that part. You know I was sooo tired that I fell asleep as soon as I came home.”
“Yes, I understand. Anyway, I see you now and that’s put my mind at rest”
“So, see you tonight Mr. Baker.”

They have been in the cemetery for an hour, walking among the graves.
“Mr. Baker. Maybe we should split up?”
“Maybe you’re right. But do you feel like fighting a vampire alone?”
“Sure. Don’t worry about it. I’m The Slayer!”
“So, go to the right and I’ll take the left side.”

After a while, Mr. Baker heard a strange noise.
“Isobel, Isobel! Where are you? I think I heard something that might be a…” but he could not finish his sentence. He fell on the ground, wounded in the back.
“I’m right behind you Mr. Baker.” Isobel said, a bloody knife in her hand.
Someone was coming near Isobel.
“Jenny! You’re finally there! I thought I heard you and I was right!”
“Did you kill him?”
“Yes, I did. They were all so stupid and let themselves to be taken in!”
“Yes, you’re right. And especially Isobel, “The” Slayer… She didn’t even notice that I was not her “real” friend.”
“Yes. I wish I were there when you killed Jenny!”
“And you are here!” said a man voice as Jenny fell on the ground.
“But who are you? Who…” the man didn’t give her time to finish and stabbed her.
“Oliver?” Mr. Baker whispered.
“Yes brother, I’m there! Don’t worry now you’ll be safe.”
“What are you doing here? And why did you kill…”
“Isobel? This was not Isobel. I found the body of our Slayer in the street last night. She was almost unconscious but still breathing. I brought her to the hospital but the doctors told me they were not able to save her. I had to stay with her to know everything before I’d be able to warn you. She told me about two girls. One who was looking like her friend Jenny and the second who looked like… her. That girl took out a knife of her jacket and… than let her for dead on the street. I was warned by the Council but too late. I just had enough time to bring her in this hospital. She died at midnight. As soon as she died I came at the cemetery and waited until they were together.
“Damn it! I should have known, I should have noticed that she was not Isobel, I should…”
“Yes… We should have…”

Chapter 1 is very reminiscent of the Buffy movie and the Buffy: Origins comic, funny to read. The whole story is pretty good. There are some mistakes in the use of language, but that's understandable. Also, sometimes the story went a bit fast and characters gave in very easily, but then, the ending does sorta explain that. The story on the whole is very interesting, with every chapter there's new revelations and you really don't know what's what. The last chapter is a bit confusing, maybe you should add who says what. Anyway, you should write more!

PS: Is Isobel in any way related to Nikki?

Thank you for your comments!
The confusing thing is my speciality... I like when it's confused and when you have to really pay attention to who says what... :scream:
And I also don't give into a too descriptive story... The reader can imagine the story... It's like I gave the main story only...

But ok, I'll take your advice into account!

PS: When I read your comment Ally I thought I'd have to wear that : paperbag for the rest of my life... ;)

Huh, what do you mean with my comment... it was positive, wasn't it? Or do you mean the PS?

When I read your comment It was like, that sould be improved, that it's ok but and so on. So I felt like, ok my story needs to be improved, a lot ;)
But your final sentence made it all positiv :D:D:D
Thank you! :D

Well, it's always easier to say what should be improved, cause you notice that easier. The good stuff you just read and accept without giving much thought to it (the way it's written, not the content ;)). Anyway... Nikki Wood was the African American Slayer Spike killed, the mother of Robin.

The Nemesis Council is a very original idea, XDruX! I like it. And for your first attempt at fiction in English, I'd say you have a winner on your hands. I did find the end a bit hard to get a grip on, like Ally, but I got the general drift of the story. You kept me guessing, and then twisted the ending enough to surprise me...well done!
