Here's the first fanfic I ever wrote in English.... :D I hope you'll enjoy it ! (cross fingers...)
Chapter 1
"Hey ! "
" Hey ! "
" How are you ? "
" Fine !! "
Of course she was fine. She couldn’t be any other way today, it was her first day at school after 2 months of lonely holidays with her grandparents. She felt alive again in the company of her friends.
“I hope we’ll have good teachers because last year they were so boring!!!”
“I heard that Mr. James is very nice and HOT above all!”
“Is he that British one?”
“Yes, he is!!”
“It’ll be great! I looove British accents so much!!! And what will he teach us?”
“Physical Education and he’ll also be in the jury for the cheerleader competition”
“Oh… OH!!! Hurry up! School starts in five minutes! I don’t want to be late for my first day!”
They entered the building of their new school.
Isobel was a 16 year old girl, not tall, just normal as she would say, and athletic. She had long blond hair and wonderful green eyes. Her friends tell her they're like two emeralds, looking at them. She had fulfilled all her wishes except one: to become a cheerleader. But this could happen very soon, since the competition was due to take place today.
“Good morning. I’m Mr. Oliver James. I’m your teacher of physical education.”
“Isn’t he just as I described him?” Jenny said.
“Yes, you were totally right.”
“Today, I just want to see your athletic skills, so we’ll just do some simple exercises.
Isobel, come here. You’ll start this one.”
And after an hour of shattering exercises the lesson finally ended.
“I think he has a crush on you, Isobel!!”
“You’re kidding! I don't think it means he has a crush on me, just because he asked me to begin!”
“Maybe not, but the way he was looking at you means a lot…”
“Jenny!!! Don’t forget that he takes part in the jury today! You’re stressing me by saying that! You know I’m not very confident although I’ve been training the whole summer.”
“Sorry Isobel, I didn’t mean to destabilize you.”
“It’s ok… In 10 minutes we’ll know if I’m good enough to be a cheerleader…”
“Isobel Wood, said Mr. James.”
“Here I am!”
“Please, take your place and show us what you can do.”
Isobel danced wonderfully until she looked at Mr. James. His dark eyes were looking at her. That was the only thing that could make her lose her concentration. And the only thing that she swore not to do. She landed on the wrong foot after her last jump and fell as the music ended. She didn’t perform the perfect dance until the end. Why did she do this stupid thing?
She was putting her clothes in her bag as Mr. James called her. She raised her head and looked with astonishment at him. “What does he want?” she wondered. She left her bag and went to him.
“Hi Isobel! How are you?”
“I’m… fine Mr. James…”
“Yes, yes… Huh… You performed quite well! I think you’ll join the cheerleader team.”
“Are you making fun of me? I made the biggest mistake I could, you are telling me that I'll join the team?!”
“Yes, that is what I think. We were all very impressed and you only did a one little mistake.”
“Oh! Thank you Mr. James! I’m SO happy!” And she started to run to pick her bag and join her friends.
“Miss Isobel, please!!” called the teacher.
“Yes?”
“Could you come back please? I didn’t actually finish.”
“Sorry Mr. James.”
“Erm…” He looked around at the people that were there. “I have to tell you something but in a less crowded place if it were possible…”
What is he talking about? Thought Isobel…
“A less crowded place?”
“Yes. It is very important. I’d like to discuss that at my home if you don’t mind. I don’t know any better place to discuss that matter.”
He must be kidding, she thought.
“Are you asking me for a… date?”
“A date?” He looked at her confused. “No, of course not! It’ll be a “professional” meeting.”
“Professional ?” Those Brits are really strange…
“I’m sorry to tell you this in that way but please, believe me. It’s a matter of an extreme importance. I NEED to meet you. It’s… a matter of life or death!”
Mr. James’ face was grave.
“You’re frightening me Mr. James!”
“I’m sorry Isobel but…” he took off his glasses and cleaned them. “You have to trust me. Please…”
“Ok then, she said. But if you try to make moves on me, I’ll kick your ass! I swear it!”
“Oh… Well… So… I’ll wait for you at the street corner at 3pm.”
“Ok, I will see you later Mr. James!”
And she went out of the gymnasium
“Pfew, that was harder than I thought, said Mr. James to himself. But I did it…”
Chapter 2
“Where is he?” wondered Isobel… "He said it was not a date, but if he doesn’t show up in the next five minutes I'll think he's standing me up!" As she said that, she saw Mr. James running out of the building.
“I’m sorry Isobel, I was kept back by a student. That way please.”
She followed him, not knowing why she trusted him.
“Here we are. Please, come in,” he said, opening the door of a quite big house. Isobel wondered if he was married and had children but she didn’t dare ask him.
“Please, sit down. Do you want some water or juice?”
“No, thank you. I only have 10 minutes, my mom will worry if I come home too late.”
“Oh, sorry… Yes… So, I guess I should now tell you what I meant to tell you.”
He is REALLY strange. And he's always saying, “I’m sorry”… It is becoming worrying. Maybe I shouldn’t have trust him. What will my Mom say when I tell her about that? Will she…
“Ms Wood? Are you listening to me?”
“Oh! Sorry…Go ahead!”
“It may sound very odd or like a joke but all that I will say is true. Isobel, you’re the Chosen One”
“The what?”
“The Chosen One. In every generation, a Slayer is born; one girl in the whole world with the physical strength and skill to fight the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. Your duty is to fight vampires and all kind of demons to free this world of all the forces of evil. And I’m your watcher.”
“Do you think this is funny?”
“What?”
“Telling me all that stuff? I may be blonde but I'm not stupid! You are trying to impress me. I don’t know why but…”
“No! You’re totally wrong! I’m not making fun of you. All I said is true. I know it may be hard to understand. But, since the previous slayer is dead you have to take over her duty now.”
“Is “dead”? How old was she?”
“19 I think… I’m not sure but…”
“19! And you want me to become a Slayer! If your story is true, all this monsters and things seem much too dangerous. I don’t want to die now that all my wishes are fulfilled. And guess what? To become a Slayer was not one of them!”
“You are not A slayer. You are THE Slayer.”
“Sorry, but I have to go home now. It was nice to meet you Mr. James”
She went quickly to the door and opened it.
“Please. Think about it. You don’t have the choice. We’ll have a talk tomorrow. Same time, same place ok?”
She didn’t answer and shut the door.
Chapter 3
“Hello Honey! How was your day?”
As weird as possible, she thought.
“Nice Mom!”
“Nice? Is that all you have to say? I thought you’d be more talkative, you were so excited this morning! Did something happen? You look so tired!”
“Huh… The cheerleader competition was very tough… I think I’d better go to my bedroom and have some rest.”
“But it’s only 4pm!”
“Huh… Yeah… But you know… First days at school are often very nerve-wracking…”
Isobel ran upstairs.
“Can you believe this? I was told today that I'm a slayer… Oh, no, THE Slayer! It’s a kind of super girl with the power to defeat all the forces of evil. Oh, and I forgot the best part, it’s the kind of superhero that dies young…. Don’t you have something to say?”
All her pets were looking at her, impassive.
She took Pyro, her favorite teddy Bear.
“And you, what do you say? That tomorrow will be another day? That I dreamt… Maybe you're right… Maybe I should call Jenny and tell her about this? No…. I think it’d be better not to.” She lay down on her bed and fell asleep.
“Honey! Wake up or you’ll be late!!”
“What time is it?”
“It’s 7 o’clock”
“What? Aw… I'm supposed to meet Jenny at 7.20…”
Isobel jumped out of bed, got dressed and ran downstairs.
“See ya Mom!”
“Hello Isobel! Did you run?”
“Huh, yes…I didn’t hear the alarm.”
“Well...this piece of news will wake you up!”
Oh no… does she know about my meeting with Mr. James?
“Yes?”
“I made a mistake yesterday. Mr. James is not the only British teacher. We have another one. This one teaches History!!!! Why are you making this face? I thought you’ll be excited just as I am?”
“Oh… That’s… nice…”
“Nice? Are you sick or something?”
“No, I’m alright. Come on Jenny.”
And they remained silent until they reached the classroom.
“Good morning. My name is Mr. Matthew Baker. I’m your history teacher for this year. I want you to do a presentation. The subject will be free. Does anyone of you want to be the first?”
Isobel raised her hand.
“Oh, that’s unusual. What’s your name?”
“Isobel Wood”
“So, do you have a subject in mind already?”
“Yes, the Revolutionary War.”
“Great! Come with after the class, I’ll show some good books at the library you could use.”
Oh no… I don’t want this day to be like the other one!
The lesson ended and Isobel went to Mr. Baker with anxiety.
“Don’t look so scared! I won’t bite you, you know. I actually want to talk to you in some quieter place and I think the library is a good one since nobody's here.”
“What? Do you want to tell me that I’m a slayer? I already know!”
“Wh…what!!! Who told you!?”
“I think a friend of yours… He explained to me all about the prophecy thing and that I have no other choice than to accept my destiny…”
“So.. It’ll make things easier since you already know. And…What have you decided?”
“No.”
“No?”
“No. I don’t want to do this job.”
“It’s not a job!”
“I don’t care what it is. I just don’t want to put me and my family in danger.”
“Isobel, please consider that you’ll not be doing this for you but for all the people that are not aware of the danger that surrounds them.”
“Leave me alone please…”
“Ok Isobel… I don’t want to rush you… Just one thing. Who was the person that told you about your destiny?”
“Mr. James. The Physical Education teacher.”
And she turned back.
“Mr. James… Hum… Let's talk to him…” And he went into the staff room.
Chapter 4
“I’m looking for Mr. James. Is he here?”
“Mr. James? No, he isn’t, you’ll find him at the gym.”
“Thank you.” He made his way towards the gym.
As he was walking he suddenly found himself face to face with a man who looked quite like him: about 5'10" tall, short dark hair and glasses. The only thing that could single them out was their eye color, as Mr. James’ were black, Mr. Baker’s were blue.
“Brother? What the hell are you doing here?” exclaimed Mr. Baker.
“What the hell are YOU doing here?”
“I? I was sent by the council to find the Slayer since we haven’t heard from you, we thought she had killed you!”
“Damn! I forgot about it… But now we have a problem. There are two of us telling her the same thing. We must form a plan otherwise we’ll never comply with our duty and the council will sack us!!!”
“Don’t worry about it. I already thought of something… Since each of us has already told her who we are let just say this: as the council had foreseen that she would not trust us, it sent two of us to make it more convincing. You know… If two persons are saying the same thing it has to be true in some way.”
“Yes, yes. You’re right. Besides, we don’t have any other choice. It’s that or we’ll die.”
“So, find the Slayer and make her see sense!”
But the two brothers didn’t notice that somebody was spying on them…
"How can I convince her? How can…”
“Mr. James... " Somebody whispered.
" Who’s there? "
He turned and saw Isobel.
“Oh, it’s you!”
“I’d like to talk to you. Can we go to your classroom? I think it’ll be a better place to discuss what you know…”
“Sure!”
They entered the classroom.

I said to myself that, if two of you are here, that must mean this Slayer stuff has to be something very important. So I'm deciding to be less selfish and to take over the duty. But I was afraid that, if I refuse it, they’ll send a third “watcher,” as you call yourself, to try to persuade me…. But what exactly is a “watcher”? "
“The watchers are sent by the Council to look after the Slayer and to train her. I don’t really understand why they sent Mr. Baker but I guess we have to work together now.”
“So…Does this mean that I’ll have to deal with two Englishmen??”
“Huh… Yes… I’m afraid so…”
And they laughed.
“Let me tell you about your training. I’d like to start today. Or I’d better say tomorrow since I want you to meet us at the cemetery at midnight. Do you think you’ll manage to go out of your house or will I need to talk to your mother?”
“Are you kidding? This isn't the first time I've gone out at night you know! But why the cemetery?”
“Because there's a vampire nest there.”
“A nest? Do you think I’ll be safe?”
“Not really, but I don’t know any better way to improve your skills.”
“Ok. I believe you. See you tonight Mr. Watcher number one!! "
“Were you talking to …”
“…Isobel. Yes, brother, I did it. Everything’s going just as the Council planned…”
