Okay just wondering if there were any Australian fans on the boards. I would love to talk to Australian Buffyfans and get their opinions of the show. So don't be shy.

Okay Aussies pipe up. I starteed this thread so Aussies on the boards could come and talk to each other.

Okay, I'll start the ball rolling by saying how badly I think Joss's shows, and others featuring Buffy/Angel alumni, have been treated by the networks down here. Channel 7 is the one that ran Buffy/Angel for 8 years, give them credit for that, but the Buffy repeats only get put on sporadically for a couple of eps at a time during summer, then they disappear again. Angel has never been repeated as far as I'm aware. That leaves it to us die-hard fans with the eps on DVD to spread the message. Don't even get me started on how Firefly was run in an 11:30pm time slot! I didn't even know it was on until it was more than half finished, caught only the last 7 or 8 eps. They gave Tru Calling, what, 2 weeks, in the dead timeslot of Friday 8:30 then decided it wasn't pulling viewers and relegated that to 11:30 as well. Can't believe we're actually getting Veronica Mars but I'm not holding my breath for us getting How I Met Your Mother, Bones or Kitchen Confidential.

But the critics here adored Buffy and Angel. The Age newspaper in Melbourne, usually a staid broadsheet paper, ran a whole page article lamenting the end of the Buffyverse. I'm paraphrasing 'cause I can't remember the exact wording, but it said something like, "The end of Buffy and it's equally good spin-off, Angel, means the end of quality imported television programs from America." The Age probably has a sister paper in Queensland, so did you see this article? Great article! I kept it but can't find it now...:crying2:

How good was Smallville last night? Oh and I totally agree with you Tucker's cousin on everything and am desperatly awaiting for a network to show How I met Your Mother.

Shame we are picking up Smallville halfway through season 2 when Channel 9 stopped showing it years ago. We're almost three years behind! I really liked Veronica Mars tonight. Did you catch it? Because I'm working when it's on, I missed taping Mythbusters to tape that, and I'm not disappointed at all!

Wanabee-slayer
11-28-2005, 06:40 PM
I know it was a great show I can tell why everyone here's raving about it.

Sadly, I'm not likely to be going anywhere this summer. Maybe I'll organise a trip to the Murray River towns for some golf with some mates but that'd only be for a couple of days. We went a couple of weeks ago on a day trip to Swan Hill, it was great. I just have to get a bunch of guys organised, ya know? Other than that, just day trips down to Phillip Island or maybe Torquay for the surf, that sort of thing.

Okkay so what's going on where are all the Aussies keep om posting here.

Tucker's Cousin
01-16-2006, 08:43 AM
Sorry, there just hasn't been much Aus-specific stuff going on. Until now! Did I read (one of David the info-bot's threads from whedonesque) that there will be a convention in Sydney in a few months? With Clare Kramer attending? If so, that rocks! It'll be tricky, but I'll have to try and get time off work to get up there for that. The rest of you are in Brissy, aren't you? Any chance any of you might attend? I'll have to find out more, but I don't have access to whedonesque, so I'll have to find out some other way.

Did anybody watch the first episode of Supernatural tonight? I thought it was fantastic! Very creepy, well written script with some interesting ideas, ACDC songs through the ep. They need to work a hot babe into the group though. Call me shallow, but I'm gonna struggle if it's just those two guys and their dad every week. I mean the White Woman spirit was hot, but eeck!

i don't watch charmed anymore... altough i watched a couple of episodes recently because i am in love with billy zane.

i was a regular viewer when shannen doherty was on the show, after that i watched occasionally but i got pissed off when the main point of the show became the girls wearing revealing outfits.

anyway i'm amy and i'm from perth :)

crazy weather

zombie.apparatus
10-11-2006, 12:33 AM
really lol.. well its like windy and rainy here still.. still a little bit overcast.. im hitting the beach again this weekend.. lol.. im so tan from going to the beach everyday when i was on holidays! :D what are your beaches like over in perth? ours are beautiful.. and if you love to surf.. you will love the sunshine coast! xx

hitmonlee
10-11-2006, 01:33 AM
i actually don't really like swimming at the beach or going to hang out there... i'm pale and burn easily (i do not tan) so i find the whole process of putting on suncream and reapplying too much hassle.

our beaches are considered to be the best in australia :p

i'd assume they are probably just as pretty as your beaches - but without all the people. some people like lots of people, but i like it when the beach is practically deserted. oh and cos the sun sets in the west, it sets over our ocean, makes for the nicest sunsets :)

zombie.apparatus
10-11-2006, 05:09 AM
wow sounds like it would be so romantic! :silly:

NRL? AFL? Cricket?

hitmonlee

rugby isn't very popular over here... i'm not even sure WA has a team?

zombie.apparatus
10-12-2006, 05:04 AM
no they dont i dont think... Perth and Adelaide areas are more into AFL :) do you know who Shane Webke is? I got a photo with him today and his autograph.. he is a Broncos player.. well not anymore he retired this year (Rugby)

i don't drink tap water anyway, so i'm not fussed if we use recycled water. heaps of places around the world use recycled water.

(i grew up in the country with a rainwater tank, when we moved to the city, we got bottled water delivered. now i don't live with my parents i steal water from work, and have a filter jug for emergencies)

I would recommend Splendor for the experience alone (if you have the spare cash...but it is a lot of fun).

How was everyone's St Paddy's Day? I had a very strange night, starting with the neighbours in my complex calling out from their balcony to my friends and I to see if we knew the bus schedule followed by a lot of strange occurances at the Prince Albert in Jupiter's Casino (I'm not a big Surfer's Paradise fan).

Not a wild night...just strange. lol.

Man, I posted in here and I forgot about it, how sad does that make me? lol

I never did end up going to Splendor...and now I'm in Scotland for at least the next 6 months, still call Australia home though, just like the song says!

I've only heard good things about Underbelly (you know, except the controversial stuff), never watched it myself...always forgot it was on. Watch one episode of Canal Road and I don't know...wasn't as impressive as I thought it could have been so didn't stick with it, plus the whole moving overseas thing and stuff.

05-26-2008, 05:04 AM
Do they pick on your accent in Scotland? hehe :) I may be going to England in march next year, I haven't quite decided yet. But the girl who I am going with is a pom and rekons that they will tease me :p but I tease her all the time about hers so I suppose it will be pay back!
I saw a few eps of Canal Road and thought it was pretty dodgy. I dont even know if it is still on anymore?

I love going to concerts and hope to go to Splendor.... one day! The last one I went to was the One Night Stand in Collie WA and it was pretty awesome! I would have preferred it to have had a drinking area but the pub was within walking distance so it wasn't too bad :p

Went to Splendor a couple years back with a girlfriend from uni. It was great. I mean, sure...there's the mary jane smell in your clothes when you leave, and if it's rained I would definitely recommend gumboots otherwise you end up with a pair of jeans like I had (mud stains up to the knee)...but it was a damned good weekend of music and festivities.

ILLYRIAN agrees: If they do pick on your accent, just 'accidentally' mention you got your suntan the day before you left. And there's, ooh snow! I've never seen that before!!

Haha thats a good tip! The top temperature at the time I am supposed to go will be 9 degrees! I will freeze! But that will make them very jealous!

Thanks Definition of Insane, gumboots seems to be the way to go at the out door concerts! Im yet to go to Southbound but I think I will go next year, it seems more likely then splendor at this stage as it is alot closer! Gee there are a few of us from Perth! Go WA!

Im currently down south near Albany housesitting, we had HUGE winds (up to 120km/hr) last week. Heaps of damage everywhere but luckily not too much on the farm I am housesitting at. The family gets back tomorrow, I love albs and I think I want to move back.... Its pretty damn freezing and so far from good night life... Mind you I wouldnt say that perth has the greatest night life either lol. I have spent most of my time down here watching DVDs and seeing a few old high school mates. I missed BB!

Lily
07-15-2008, 06:18 AM
yep, Perth's night life is a little low-key shall we say? I've been completely overwhelmed by all the choices here in Melbourne, it's sort of one of those times when I've realised that even if I go to 3 different places every night I still won't go to them all before I leave/get too old to be allowed in :D

not like Perth where it's like hmmm The Shed or The Dean or Metros, or Freo/Subi/Claremont....so many choices! Albany great though, I've been there a couple of times and it's so relaxing (we have a house in Dunsborough so I've been there more, same vibe though)
I can't believe the winds! I thought we had it bad here with 90 km/hr winds!

I loved The Esplanade at St Kilda when I went, and I did like the Crown Casino tho as I had never been in a casino before so it was all very exciting. Much better than Burswood hehe. Lily
07-27-2008, 08:28 AM
i used to get them from the comic place in the city next to the original Java Juice, which is up near 78's
it's the underground store and it had/has all the figurines etc as well, i haven't been there in at least 6 months though (since i left Perth) but that would be the first place i would look
i can find a name and address somewhere if those *extremely* vague directions aren't any good to you :D

There are about 3 different places that I go to for comics in Perth. One of them is the underground comic place up near 78's. The other one is the one that also sells Buffy figurines and bits and pieces that's upstairs, and the other one is also on Hay St, but on the other side of the mall. I can't remember their names and I don't have exact addresses cause I'm on holiday in Dubai, but I can find out in a week or so if you remind me!

Me? Scottish? I kinda wish!

I spent 2 weeks in New Zealand and came back with a slight Kiwi twinge that lasted a little while...I've been here three months and the only things I think are different about my speech is that occasionally say "wee" and "quid" :p

Meanwhile, I always get asked here if I'm from New Zealand if I haven't gotten around to saying I'm Australian...maybe it did stick!

Saw her pop in not long ago, but I'm sure Mogwaid is originally from the land of the long white cloud :)

Gotta share with my Aussie buds....I saw Adam Hills at The Stand last night!!! :D

He's taken my comedy gig virginity :p, I've never been to a comedy gig before and saw that he was going to be here in Glasgow for his only solo show, so I had to drag a friend along because I love Adam Hills...loved it!

How funny that I had to live in Scotland before I saw an Australian comedian...lol

Yep Im an Aussie!, its good that on the Sci-Fi channel they play buffy every afternoon at 5.30pm and everymorning at 6.30am, I get to watch it before work!, Angel is on at bad times though, I think on a saturday night or something, I do have some vague memories of coming home at like 3 in the morning and watching Angel whilst drunk!
