I just watched and listened to the Once more with feeling episode and I noticed Michelle's voice is very high--almost too much so.
Is that her real voice?

It's gotta be her real voice, all the actors did their own singing as far as I know.. I don't think her voice is that high.. Mine is probably just as high, heh.. (Not that I can sing though.)

Yeah, i'm reasonably certain that it was Michelle's own voice. I believe that Joss was intent on having everyone sing their own lines. So much so that he had to limit the amount of lines given to Willow due to Alyson's ... how can i put this politely ... lack of singing ability, lol!
It would be strange to think that he didn't use Michelle's own voice if he was willing to work around Alyson's.

Hehe, yeah, she's not the best singer... But I think her very few lines had almost more to do with her unwillingness to sing than Joss not wanting people to hear her voice. You can almost always make it sound ok, I mean most people can sing, theoretically, if they try hard enough :)

Hehe, oh yeah, don't misunderstand me! I'm certain that Joss made the choice to give Willow as few lines in the songs as possible because Alyson requested he do so. Not because he thought she sucked! :D

Well, I'm quite sure the singing part is more of an Alyson-nightmare than a Willow one. Willow did however always hate being on stage/in the centre of things :)

Yes, Michelle's voice is very high! I think maybe they edited it a bit, because I doubt she would be able to sing that high, even though her speaking voice is pretty high-pitched as well.
On Alyson's singing voice, though she may not have the best singing voice, I think it's adorable! But she sounded really good when she sang: "I think this line's mostly filler". She sounded great when she sang that line. :)

If her voice was plotted out in terms of notes, she would be a soprano singer, which is the high octave singers. But I don't think that she's incredibly high, and usually the higher you sing the more you tend to screech if not trained properly. I don't think Michelle was that bad.
I agree that it is most definitely Michelle's voice. All of the actors sang, and like The Watcher said; if the storyline was written around Alyson's singing, then why would they alter Michelle's?

Yes, she would most defintely be a soprano. And I never said she was was bad (not intended to sound attitude-y). She was alright.
I mean, it sounds like the edited her voice. They probably didn't, but it just doesn't seem like her voice would be so high.
i don't think her voice was altered in anyway...i seriously believe that what we heard was Michelle's true voice. just because her singing voice is high, doesn't mean it was altered.
when i'm singing, my voice is high, like Michelle's (my sister tells me i sound a lot like her, but it's not true) and i know that my voice isn't altered.
if they wouldn't alter Alyson's why would they alter Michelle's?

I think Willow's inability to sing is adorable...Alysson did the same thing on Date Movie! But it is definitely Michelle singing on OMWF...definitely.

Hmmm...the pitch at which one sings doesn't always correspond exactly to that at which one speaks. Emma Caulfield speaks at a high pitch, I'm not sure she sang higher than Michelle Trachtenberg. BTW I loved listening to Emma Caulfield sing-I don't imagine she had any problem doing it for Joss, I read that she's done musical theatre on stage.
But Michelle Trachtenberg's forte is dancing rather than singing-and Joss Whedon gave her an opportunity to showcase her dancing prowess in OMWF. Her singing contribution was small.

Besides Willow, Michelles singing voice was my least fav.. it was too high I think... I think she sang okay when her and Sweet were dancing.. but in where do we go from here and her solo in front of the mirror.. I didnt enjoy her voice as much as the other characters...
