I know this episode does not quaify as important toward the series storyline, but I found it to be kind of funny.
Buffy smelling Xander--Willow acting as if she cared what that guy was saying then saying she didn't--Willow thinking Buffy went for group sex--Buffy smacking the guy over the head with the plank of wood at the end...
Again, not crucial, but really funny stuff to me.

i love beer bad and how buffy and speak caveman its very funny espically when giles and xander find her.
Buffy: beer?.... buffy want beer?
Giles: you cant have beer
buffy: want beer.
xander: dont make caveslayer angry
buffy: buffy strong
giles: yes
buffy: get beer
sorry if any of that is wrong straight from memory

I liked this epi as one of the funniest of S4. And the quote "beer's bad" remains in my mind.... And I use it now for quite everything....
O! And the moment when she hurts Parker... I was soooo... YEAH!!!!! Well done!

Heh, I can't say I like this episode that much. But I agree it's funny. And it was kind of fun 'cause one of my friends (who doesn't like BtVS) told me that she had seen this ep on TV and that BtVS seemed kinda good :D

I loved this episode! I found it quite amusing but at the same time typical for what girls and boys do when rejected by a man. How many of us have gone out and got plastered after a rejection? I have many times. Only difference is that we don't have some weirdo barman spiking it!
i love this ep! it's def one of my faves from thr series.
i don't drink alcohol, so i can't agree with the post above, but i do use the phrase 'Beer Bad' when i'm out watching my friends get drunk!

I loved it because Parker finally got what he deserved-a good telling off and a smack over the head! He was soooo annoying when he panicked in the fire!

I agree, this was a funny episode. And a lot of it was actually a pretty good depiction of college life (hey I've been there!)- like that scene at the end where those bozos are locked up in the van. Binge drinking at college goes on ALL the time.
Cheers to Xander, not for faking an ID to get the bartending job but for taking care of Buffy. And cheers to Willow too, still hurting from her own loss of Oz but still with the thoughtfulness and strength to stick up for her friend.

This episode stinks. I'd give it a "1". I don't know if this will be my most disliked episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, because I still have Seasons Five, Six, and Seven to work through.
As capable an actress as Sarah Michelle Gellar is, she is really forcing her way through this. The script wallows in ridiculous excesses and makes for pure drudgery. This is a Buffy episode worthy of an asterisk.

i liked this episode bar...... beer good :) ( toutches picture of beer on screen..... want beer....wanders and starts caveman drawing on wall....)
What happened to good TV?

I'm afraid I gotta agree with Iron dreamer. I wasn't impressed. I found it to be one of, if not THE poorest episode of buffy the vampire slayer...ever.

ok yea this episode didnt exactly have any importance to the seasons storyline but it was funny because Buffy was drunk and also i guess being drugged or woteva you would call it to make her act that way, anyway she was acting really funny.plus i thought it was REALLY funny when Willow was pretending to understand what that guy was talking about and then he tried to make a move and she just totally kicked him to the ground,i was cracking up.she was just like please give me a break do you really think i would fall for that.it just made me laugh.

It wasn't any kind of "best" episode but I thought it was a well constructed satire-statement on the irresponsible drinking that goes on in college. Those drinking scenes should have a familiar ring for anyone who's been there.

I thought this was the worst Buffy episode of all-time. Yes it has a few (very few) good moments, but I found it very boring and kinda lame.

I enjoyed this episode (maybe because I'm a drunk!). I think it is far superior to the episode when Riley and Buffy were in a room having sex for the whole show.

Gotta say, i didn't like this episode.
I thought that one or two parts were cool, Xander and Willow(to name a couple) but over all not that great....mind you, give me this over Reptile Boy or Go Fish any day.....
What i mainly dislike about this, is i'm bored of how shows get really preachy about things.
Like here, if you drink bad things will happen.
Yeah we get it, the Whedonverse writers want to educate people, but come on, do they have to constantly ram down our throats that certain things are bad for us.....i'm sure that Whedon et al enjoy the occasional drinky-pooh.
You want to treat the fanbase as people in the real world, show them young adults drinking moderatelt and enjoying themselves.....
I mean in a later Episode they have Dawn say 'Drinking is for losers' or something, i mean get off the high horse people, i know a well functioning group don't make for great TV, but that doesnt mean you have to be preachy all the time!
EDIT: Speaking of Reptile Boy....another episode with the perils of drinking....Jebus Wept, we get it, underage drinking leads to unsavoury acts.........but sometimes it only leads to a sore head!!!

I never watched reptile boy and from what i read of it i didn't miss much
but regarding beer bad well the only funny thing about it was Giles trying to explain CavegirlBuffy oh and Buffy going all cave girl lol but apart from that it was not very good in terms of drama, i was bored watching most of it.
No offence to those who liked it though.

Actually I didn't find this episode preachy. More satire than sermon. The idea of people turning into cavemen when they get drunk. I laughed hard at the end where Xander has those bozos locked up in the van.

I loved this episode, it is one of my favorites. "i've got your number Id boy!" awesome. and come on, she whacks parker on the head...thats just great. I was so excited about all the fun psychology references that I overlooked any preachy-ness. it was just a fun episode. I loved it. it was funny.

This episode wasn't that important, and it's rather funny. I enjoyed it but it certainly wasn't a favourite of mine. I couldn't really say I would re-watch it over and over, but it was enjoyable, mostly the first time you see it.
If you're in a depressed mood, this episode might cheer you up. It's not the funniest but it's quite enjoyable to watch.

I hate this episode. Hate hate hate it. It does not feel like Buffy at all to me, and the storyline was just stupid. I haven't even been able to finish this episode after starting it three different times because I find it so excruciating I only make it halfway through. By far the worst episode and I pity anyone whose first episode is THIS.

I'm with the minority on this, I didn't like it at all. I thought it was a very pointless episode. Yea, the point was made that drinking was bad, but the episode wasn't the most entertaining :(

This episode let Buffy deal with the one who I shall not name. Fine, I'll name him 'Parker'.
It let her deal with what he did. Hitting him over the head and dragging his body to safety.
Hitting him was great! Really thought she was just going to leave him for a second. Thankfully she didn't.
It would have hurt her later on. But the end when she wacked him over the head!! hahaha That's why I enjoyed the episode.
Plus this episode not only allowed her to deal with Parker, it was funny, maybe over the top funny and trying to hard, but it was laughable.

I think it was just ok. I agree that it didnt feel anything like a buffy episode, though. I did find i pretty funny when they se her writing on the walls. But yeah, its a bit hard to get through.
Why did Xander need a fake ID to get the bartending job? It's 18 to be a bartender here in NYC (just can't drink the stuff, thats all). Is it different in cali? Because i thought he was 18 already.
And why is everyone so down on reptile boy? it was a fun episode. Not to get off topic. Silly but that's why i love it. Especially the whole Xander in drag thing!
And my god i hate Parker. He was such an annoying character. ugh!

I liked it simply because it gave SMG a brief holiday from her character. She was allowed to step into a very different persona, much like she was able to in Halloween. I additionally liked this ep because it was a creature feature episode where one of the main cast was the creature (as A New Man was for Giles).
They did it for extra funding to coincide with a 'Propagate that drinking is bad' campaign. They didn't get the funding, but that's the reason why the episode was off-beat with the storyline. Though it was still a very funny episode, and it had that Buffy quirkiness. Plus, it was one of the more associable metaphors of the show.

This ep seems to be one of the most disliked but I think its really funny actually. The premise is mayb kinda silly and mundane but I think the dialogue and the actors' delivery is what makes it great. I crack up way too much for me to hate it.
Giles: I can't belive you served Buffy that beer.
Xander: I didn't know it was evil!
Giles: You knew it was beer!
Willow psyching Parker out was just awesome! "Just how gullible do you think I am?!" hee
Xander: Let's see, I'll take this one, and this one. And you know I've always had a problem calculating the tip and you guys being so dapper and brain, maybe you can help me out. Okay great. See if your bill comes to thirty-eight dollars and people tip what, approximately thirty percent? That makes you tip what? (One of the guys gives him
all the money). You are so smart. This is so the right amount.
Right there, Xander was my hero! I'm a server and oh how I wish I could pull that off! :)

I agree with Airam. It is really the silliest episode i think, but thanks to the great acting and stuff it's still fun to watch. I also liked how you can clearly see how much they are all enjoying themselves, being cavemen (and woman)
And ah, remember Giles' great description of Buffy, when he's looking for her, I dont remember exactly but it was something like: 'She has a sort of limp' *walks like a caveman*

Not a classic by any means, but people are way too hard on this episode. It's okay. There are definitely worse episodes. Probably 3 or 4 worse episodes than this in season one. And I agree with an earlier poster who mentioned "Buffy Versus Dracula." The first time I saw that episode, I thought the series had completely lost its way. Thankfully, it bounced back quickly. But back to "Beer Bad", I agree that the metaphor in this episode was kind of obvious/preachy/overdone, but it was still an entertaining enough episode.

I can see why people dont like it, but the humorous quotes made it worth the watch.
I kinda like this episode.
It is quite silly but it has some hilarious moments. Caveslayer is lovely and very watchable.
The reason it works though is because it is different and not your usual episode.
If this would be a typical episode I would be fed up with Buffy pretty quick.
So I am glad they didn't do that many of these kind of stories, there are a few thorughout the series but not that many which is all good.

I honestly didn't really like this episode either. It seemed a bit silly. The only part that really made me giggle was Xander trying to impress Willow and Buffy with his bartending skills (his lighter, his rag and his empathy face).

It's a particulary bad episode, almsot as bad as Where The Wild Things Are. The season def could have done without it. The writer must have drank too much beer one night and turned into a caveman and thought, hmm, this would make a good Buffy episode.

Beer Bad was one of my favorite episodes of Season 4. I think Joss and crew are brilliant for getting their morals out there so subtly (Don't drink alcohol in excess... It turns you into a slobbery, bibbling idiot. LOL)...
I was so happy when I realized that Parker wasn't getting to Willow... She totally turned it around on him and I loved it. :) And Buffy bonking him on the head at the end was classic. You go girl! :D

Xander: Noting can defeat the penis! *snorts geeky*
Willow: I'm pregnant by my step-brother who'd rather be with my best friend and who's left me with no place to live, no food, except for this bottle of Wild Turkey, which I drank all up. That's me being tanked and friendless for ya.
Buffy: I'm suffering the afterness of a bad night of... badness.
Willow: You didn't. Not with Parker again.
Buffy: No. with four really smart guys.
Willow: Four? Oh... ow. Oh, Buffy, are you OK? Do you want to talk about it?
Buffy: I went to see Xander. Then I saw Parker. Then came... beer.
Willow: And then group sex?
X: Beer bad. Bad, bad beer. What the hell am I saying? Buffy, go home... and go to bed.
B: Say 'bye. *pushes Xander*
X: Bye.
B: Bye.

This episode is in my opinion the worst moment in the whole Buffyverse , the only good moment was Buffy hitting Parker. SMG moaned abot the Doublemeat Palace outfit , but they must have really got her drunk to make her look and act like a cavewoman and as for her hair..... She really must have been so happy with the result!!!!
