Save Angel talk with Amber Benson and Christopher Golden

On Friday, collaborators Amber Benson and Christopher Golden stopped by to answer questions from site members, and revealed some insightful and often humorous aspects about their work, and themselves.

Both are familiar to fans of Buffy and Angel. Benson portrayed "Tara" on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, while Golden is the author of numerous books related to the shows. Benson also wrote, directed and performed in a small, personal film called Chance which featured some fellow cast members.

Golden explained how the two started up a writing partinership, after being introduced by a mutual friend, "When I found out Amber was a writer, it was an easy jump to asking her to write a Willow & Tara comics project with me."

After that project, the pair developed the mythology of "Ghosts of Albion," initially as a BBC animated Web serial, and now, as a series of novels.

When asked which characters the two enjoyed writing, Golden disclosed, "That's the irony that makes our secret recipe. Amber likes to write the boy parts, and I like to write the girl parts." According to Benson, "I think like a guy." Prodded for an example, she explained, "Until very recently I thought Prada was a hairspray."

Transforming the short Web animation into an extended novel required some more mature additions, at the request of the publisher. Golden said, "They wanted it grittier, more unpleasant, and much sexier. We were ALL too happy to oblige." Benson declared, "Chris and I fight over who's doing the sex scenes." While Golden noted, "The challenge in the sex scenes is trying to make the other one blush. That's no simple feat with the two of us."

About future plans for the series, Benson said, "We would love to do a tv series (animated or not) and maybe a film."

The two also spoke about their upcoming projects. Benson has a number of indie films, including her own work, Lovers, Liars and Lunatics which has a trailer available now online. Golden had a range of new publications in the works, including a new project with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, which Benson said, "sounds AWESOME."
