It's always fun to read a Joss interview.

Joss Whedon is awesome. After braving an entire red carpet to support his Serenity star Nathan Fillion at the premiere of his new film, Slither, he still put up with more harassment on his way to the after party. I found a moment to walk up to Whedon after he hung with some browncoats. Though I barely said anything, he knew exactly what to do. I needed some bites so he’d give them. The result was pure Whedon magic.

Q: How did Nathan do not being directed by you?

Joss: You know, I molded him from clay. He is nothing without me. No, the great thing about Nathan is he just completely embodies the part. I wasn’t even thinking about ooh, Nathan made this choice or that. I’m just like, “What’s going to happen to the sheriff?” The only thing I noticed of Nathan is his hair. “That’s kind of like Caleb hair, but no so much Mal hair.” He’s wonderful. He was wonderful long before he ever met me.

Q: Does a movie like this satisfy your genre cravings or is there a bit of overstimulation in the genre right now?

Joss: This is a different kind of movie than every other movie that’s out there. Mostly they’re doing the really hot teens have sex and die for it at the hands of mutants, or inbred mutants or living dead mutants. This is more of a throwback to the older movies that I grew up with which had the grossout, the extraterrestrial, the comedy, everything all at once. They’re slightly less pornographic. You actually care about the characters even though they’re really silly, so this is the kind of movie I haven’t seen in a while. It’s fun. I liked it a lot.

This is worth a read too. It's a story off this Serenity fan-girl's Live Journal where she's talking about how her and her friend decide to just drive into LA to watch the celebrity's walk down the red carpet at the Slither premiere. They don't have tickets, or anything, then this happens...

Yeah, so I was wrong. It was hard to keep sight of him what with all the other people milling about on the carpet, but all of a sudden I spot him crossing the street and walking towards us. Which is, of course, when my brain exploded. Coz really? The sight of Nathan Fillion walking towards you, grinning, in *that* suit? Too much for my little brain to process. I hadn’t brought anything with me for him to sign, as I honestly never thought it would happen, but just as he was walking over I remembered that I probably still had my Serenity ticket stub in my wallet from the first time I went to see it. Score one for me, I was right. In fact, I happened to have both mine AND Katie’s. Yay. He came up and stood practically right next to us, and mine was the second or third thing he signed. Call me a ridiculous fangirl for gushing, but goddamn is that man pretty. And tall. And pretty. And was like a foot away from me. In that suit. But, erm. Yeah. And I’m not going to mention how ridiculously soft his hands were, because that would make me even more of a silly, silly fangirl. So, moving on. :D

You could tell he was really rushed, and said as much, but he did manage to sign quite a few things before having to dash off again. He said some cute, very funny things while he was signing, but unfortunately I was too damn dazed and filled with glee to remember exactly. Katie ([info]orangepenguino) is working on a write-up of the night’s festivities as well, and as she’s brilliant and funny and a far better poster than I am, it’s possible that she’ll remember in more detail. Bur suffice to say, he was lovely, and I was bowled over by the simple fact that he came over at all.

So he ran back across the street, and Katie and I attempted to breathe like normal, non-crazy human beings. People were starting to go into the theater, and we figured it was just about time to head back to the car. That’s when I hear some woman talking to Katie, asking her if she’s really into the movie. Katie and I were both kind of confused, (I thought maybe she was a reporter), but Katie mumbled an answer of “erm...yeah...firefly...Nathan...yeah...” or something along those lines. And very quietly, the woman said ‘okay, do you want to see the movie? Come over here a second’. To which Katie and I eloquently replied, “!!!!!!!!!”. So she led us a few feet away and explained that she was from the advertising department, and that she didn’t want to make a scene, but that she had some extra tickets. She handed us a pair of tickets, and we followed her and her group of people into the theater. Katie and I wandered in and found seats in a awe-struck daze. James Gunn said a few words, and then the movie started, to much applause...
