Rupert?

How many times do we hear somebody call Giles by his first name during the series?
Was this some sort of off-the-air mention by BtVS writers?

we hear Giles being called Rupert a lot...by Quintin, Joyce, even Ethan at some stage i think. he introduces himself as 'Rupert Giles' more than once.
i don't understand what you mean by an 'off-the-air mention' when it's been mention on screen so many times.

I counted up 64 times in both ATS and BTVS (that's including introductions, mentions, direct adressing him... the whole nine yards).

Lyri's right, it's mostly people from Giles' past who calls him Rupert (Olivia, Ethan). Joyce and Quentin do a couple times, but seem to prefer "Mr.Giles" (as does Wood), Jenny said it soooooo many times though, I swear most of it's from her, Spike also said it here and there..... so GENERALLY it looks like British folk and Girlfriends call him by his first name the most. :)

And I'm not sure what you mean by "off the air" either, sorry!

Everytime I think of the word Rupert, I hear Ethan saying it. It was the way he said it, but thinking back on it I do only recall Olivia, Ethan and Jenny saying it.

I think by off the air mention, he means like how they announced Faith's last name, but it was never on the show. Maybe, I'm not really sure. :) But anyways, the adults on the show seem to call him Rupert a lot. I could have just imagined this, but I thought even Angel and Spike called him Rupert once or twice. It's mostly just the scoobies that call him Giles.

Nah, in all seriousness I cheated (lol :D), searched "rupert" on the buffy dialouge database and went through the scenes that came up with my nifty little "find" button (although I did count up the little hi-lighted found thingys I got from that hehe ::blush:: )

Yeah, I know what you mean, I'd totally forgotten about Jenny myself. And you're right PZ, like I said Spike did call him that more than a couple times, Angel usually says "Giles", but said "Rupert" when he was Angelus (btvs s2 Angelus) and "Rupert Giles" once in "Damage".
