To whom it may concern,

I know that you are probably already aware of this, but I felt it my duty to write and inform you personally.
Neela Rashandi, the Vampire Slayer, died yesterday, September 14, 1926. I found her body this morning, after searching the town for her. She had been killed by the nest of vampires I sent her to destroy.
She was thirteen years old.
How could someone so young be allowed to become this person? This warrior. Neela was no more than a child. She still slept with the doll I gave her upon our first meeting.
She wasn’t ready for this responsibility…this sentence.
Because that is what being the Slayer is, a death sentence for a young girl, a girl who should be able to grow up and get married, and have children, not die a lonely, bloody death at the hands of demons or vampires.
When I sighed up for this fight, agreed to become part of the struggle against darkness, I did it because I thought it was the right thing to do. We were fighting the monsters, to keep our world safe and protected, with a warrior Chosen to lead us.
But now I know that this is not a noble fight. A Chosen warrior does not lead us.
A girl, a child, is used as our instrument, as we see fit, to keep the demons at bay. We tell her what to do and she will do exactly that, because that is how she has been trained.
The Slayer is a girl in servitude to people like us, who think they know better than she does, when in fact we do not.
If we did, we would find a way to put an end to these barbaric and blood filled lives, before more girls are killed for the ‘greater good.’
My girl, my sweet child, is gone. And so is my reason for being here.
This is the last correspondence you will receive from me, the Council will not hear from me again, nor will my friends or family. I wish to live out the remainder of my days trying to forget the fact that I sent an innocent girl to her death.
Although I realize I never will.
My prayers are with the new Slayer, whoever she may be.
She does not deserve a life like this.
None of them do.

Sincerely,
Samuel Correl

I like this a lot, Lyri! Very nicely done, and it's good to finally see an Indian Slayer on the boards. :)

Nice. I liked this short piece a lot. I'm a sucker for the old epistolary style.
