View Full Version : Should Cordelia have stayed on BtVS?

I was wondering, does anyone here think that Cordy should have stayed in BtVS instead of going over to Angel? I'd have to say that it would have been intresting to see how she would have developed on Buffy, but I don't think that she would have been as important as she was on Angel. I prefer having Cordy go on to Angel instead of her having stayed in BtVS? Does anyone agree or disagree with me?

I for one would have loved to have seen Cordelia on the college scene at U.C. Sunnydale (assuming that she went there). I'm not entirely happy with the Cordelia story on Angel.
I guess though that there just wasn't room for all the actresses on the one show. In particular, if Cordelia had stayed on, I wonder if they could have developed the characters of Tara and Anya as much as they did.
It was probably better for Charisma Carpenter that she got to have a bigger role on the spinoff.

Should Cordelia have stayed on BtVS?
No way! I liked Angel as a series more than Buffy and Cordy was a perfect contrast to Angel's character.

I never really liked Cordelia until I saw her on AtS. And on AtS she got to really really develop as a character, which she only did a little bit on BtVS. I liked her on both shows but honestly don't think she would have fit in with the UC Sunnydale Buffy bunch, she fit in perfectly in LA with Angel+Doyle and Angel+Wesley though, in my opinion.

It'd be interestiing to see her development in BTVS.

I think Angel was the best place for her. I don't think Cordy would have evolved as much staying in 'safe' little Sunnydale. 'Safe' for her, where she was known by everyone, and where she had a reputation and all that. In moving from Sunnydale to LA Cordy went from a big bad goldfish in a little glass bowl to being that same 'big' goldfish dumped into the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Not so 'big' anymore out there. She was forced, way more than just when her parents money went away, to struggle for things, and still sometimes fail. She was in a much 'harsher' world than she was accustomed to. It combined with the dynamics that came out of such an innitially 'odd' pairing of Angel and Cordy and some other odd people, wound up creating the right conditions for herself an most everyone else else to truly evolve.
I mean who could have looked at Wes and Cordy in s3 of Buffy and guessed what they'd be like by even like s3 of Angel, much less s4 or s5. :)

Well..no she really developed on Angel..maybe a few guest appearances..but on Angel she was just a really amazing person..I loved how she grew up from being some whiny spoiled selfish teenager..to someone who would die for a stranger in need.

Charisma Carpenter is, from all accounts, a wonderful person who grew up with more things on her mind than just acting stardom. She was, I understand, very well liked on and off the set of the two shows. As such, I'm very glad for her that she got to have a bigger and more interesting role on Angel. It's not much talked about, but there are plenty of rumours about her not getting along with SMG and if they are true then it's probably better for both of them that CC went to a different show.
I just wasn't entirely happy with where they went with the Cordelia character as Angel continued to diverge from Buffy. Especially Season 4 Cordelia-I didn't know what to think anymore.
"You're Welcome", her farewell episode in Season 5, is one of my favorite episodes of either series. I heard it was a real emotional one for both Charisma Carpenter and David Boreanaz.

Cordelia complemented Angel both show and character better then she could have on Buffy in my opinion.
On Buffy she was a full cast member from the beginning, but honestly i always felt she was more a recurring character.
So, my answer to Should she have stayed...a huge resounding no....having said that, i would have liked a one off episode with Cordy back in Sunnydale(season 5 or 6) just showing how much she had grown in comparison to her character and the ones left behind in SunnyD.

I liked Cordy in both shows. She always knew hot to create conflict on Buffy which was needed on that show at that time. But on Angel I was glad to see she had grown ok she took her time but still she changed and became a better person. If she'd stayed on Buffy that would never have happened. Also I think once Cordy and Xander's relationship ended on the show she really didn't have a place on the show.So of course Joss loved Charisma he doesn't want her to be leaving and he writes her into Angel. Which I think was necessary. i mean Angel needed something familiar around and Cordy offered just that.
P.S VG is making me say chick fights are the best!

I agree with those who say Cordelia is better off at Angel. But it would have been intresting to see her in the college scene on BtVS too. I just bought season 4 of BtVS yesterday and I kinda miss her on there. She was always the one to come in and say a witty comment or insult and then leave the scoobies to deal with it LOL But I do like the addition of Spike and Anya. They are like Cordy split up into two. Spike being the mean hurtful side and Anya being the tactless outspoken side.

Cordelia was defintely great on Angel... I love watching her character grow and develop into this wonderul person that helps save the world and helps people... I did enjoy watching Cordy on Btvs... but in my opinion, I think she was defintely better off moving to LA. And Cordelia matured into someone great.... and I loved watching all of the relationships she had... it was great... but I am always so curious on what would happen if she had stayed at Sunnydale... but I agree with Vision Guy... Cordelia rocks on Angel!!

Definately Angel for me, I'm more of an Angel fan anyway. It would have been interesting to see her at college in buffy, but I think her character wouldn't have grown as much. I have to admit though that I was more of a fan of her in the first 3 seasons of Angel. I liked her on both shows though.

Nope, don't think she should have stayed in BtVS. I really like her development on Angel (except for the "evil"-Cordy parts..), and that it was the change of scenery (Sunnydal to LA), and everything she had to deal with there that made that development happen. If she would have stayed in BtVS I'm afraid that she would have been boring.

I would have to say that I perfer her on Angel. I would like to see how she became if she stayed on Buffy but I think it was wise for her to go over to Angel.
Also it would have probably ruined everthing for Xander and Anya. Even though they weren't together in the end. But they still loved each other.
It would have been nice to have have Cordelia on Buffy but I think that Buffy got better after she left. Especially without all of the rude comments and everything. On the plus side she got to work with Wesley!

I'm glad she went to Angel. It gave the character the spotlight a lot more than if she had stuck around on Buffy, always in the shadow of the core four and Spike.
Cordy on Buffy was great but Cordy on Angel was better!
Well I didn't like Cordy in 'Buffy', but in 'Angel' she changed a lot, and she became one of my favourite characters. So I think it was very good thing that she left Btvs!
