See, my opinion is, and please don't take this wrong SpikedBuffy because you do a wonderful job, its just you can't force discussion.

These Discussion Threads, its like we're being told 'OK, you have this to talk about and this much time to say it'.
To me, it just feels like there isn't enough tome for the conversation to evolve. Look at some of the big conversations that take place here, they take months to develop. I just feel with a time limit you are saying to everyone, if you don't post your comment now, you will be late and your view will not have any part of the conversation.

i kind of agree with how conversations should not be confined to a time limit, but i can seemingly force myself to say something about each topic. usually a lot! i just ramble on about whatever questions or comments i have about the episode or character or whatever the topic is. hence, i am the only one with the really long posts. my point is that it may be more convinient to have a longer time to converse, as BOTD said, but also that since i can aparrently make myself say a lot for each thread, it is possible for me (and potentially some others) to deal with it, which in effect cancels out everything i said and makes it pointless...i'll try not to post when im in strange moods anymore :blush:.

Don't forget that the point of the group is to have a focused discussion. We have the regular episode forums for long drawn out wide-ranging ones...

That's why you might notice that some of the more recent discussions have not had a time limit put on them.

The reason that I put a week time window on each discussion is to keep it focused and clear. We have a couple of discussions going at a time, and if they are all open for a long time, we're going to have episodes stacked up. Then we do not have the focused discussion that B spoke about above.

What I have witnessed though, is whether a time limit or not, the discussions are not as active as I'd hoped. So start bringing your friends! :) j/k

Same here. But upon discussing it with members, they seemed to have more of an interest in other things besides that theory.

Yeah, but I like that idea so much! I think it'll really help us all appreciate why we fell in love with the show in the first place! I've been dying to watch it all from the beginning, but I always don't, and just pick out eps that I want to watch.

It's started already! I'm on the ball. Plus, we'll keep the other discussions going that were suggested, so it's the best of both worlds!

OK thought 1 at 3am in the morning so it may be crap.
What if we signed up for discussions as characters.

Say for instance anyone who wishes to participate in an Episode Discussion takes it like a Commentary.
Example.

Discussing Bewitched Bothered and.... and SpikedBuffy watches the episode as if she was Cordelia and say i'm Xander. When we are discussing it, we only post as if we are that character BUT it has to be a proper discussion.
Its like we are treating the episode as a real event not TV.

I seriously don't think that sounds like I meant it to sound, but i'll post any way so that I can refine it when i'm actually awake:)

Yeah, so Everyone gets a shot it should be a first come first serve and like per episode the characters that are involved are part of the discussion.

In essence you are giving your interpretation of the characters motivation and justification.

Could be interesting.
And as its first come first serve that would alos allow different peoples views different characters over the course of the show....again, just my thought:)

Sounds good BoTD, although I think my skull is incredibly thick and it's taking me a while to process it! Maybe I have to see it in action to fully understand!

So, we can start doing that too. I think we'll need to have a practice round kind of, to get the hang of out. We could open up a thread announcing the characters that will be needed for the discussion, and then it'll be first come, first post to get that character. Sound okay?

Basically it would be like an RPG Episode Discussion/DVD Commentary.

People discuss an episode as they were the character watching it.


I had another idea that I believe certain members would like.
Debates.
Two posters are given one topic and they debate it pro and con.

I find that alot of people on this board have opposing opinions and as long as it stayed within the realms of the show, the debates can get really interesting and heated.

Then at the end, a poll is opened for like a week and people vote on who they believe made the strongest argument...not necessarily the one they agree with

Say having Dshugashvili vs Nerd4Hire(i picked these two as i've enjoyed their recent debate in the Slayer Line thing) making cases for and against Angel/Buffy Realstionship and Spike/Buffy relationship....this is one eg.

Nope, it hasn't started yet. But the more recent explanation of it's just kind of like the character is watching the episode and commenting on it made more sense. I guess my light bulb wasn't burned out when I read it again! :)

Okay, BoTD, start it up if you want! Start up with a 'casting call' I guess on the characters and the ep! Then, it'll be first come first post on who gets what part. Then you can start discussing the episode.

If you don't want to start it, I'll do it. Just let me know!

I have an idea! Like every week (starting on Tuesdays, cuz that's when Dawn alwasy gets in trouble) we start a discussion on the episodes going in order. When the next Friday comes, we discuss the next episode. I know, lame and unoriginal idea...but still.

We could post a thread saying Season one Overview January 20th - January 30th or something ^_^ then a season 2, then 3 then 4 then 5 then 6 then 7 one after another, each week a new season for everyone to watch and discuss. ^_^

Could broadcast it to the entire board telling everyone to start watching each season a day or two before the discussion starts, so there could be a 10 day discussion about each. It would definitely spark peoples interest and get them to go back and rewatch the show again ^_^ Plus talking about each season with everyone for an entire week(well maybe 10 days) and knowing other people are rewatching and enjoying it right when you are, would be AMAZING ^_^

What do you think, to ambitious, or do you think we can go for ambitious next month? Only way to get alot of people to join in would be to get a mod/admin to make an announcement about it that we are going to do it ^_^ so? too ambitious right? ^_^

We could do it this way if instead of 1 episode and 1 entire week, we could do 1 episode every 3 days. Monday watch 1, then Thursday watch the next, while people can still talk about the other ep. Would that work better?

All i said was we could do the eps in order, which would take approximately 780 days or more if we used the boards methods,^_^ if we did 7 days for each ep, i said the discussions could keep going on for the eps for 7-14 days, but the next ep thread would already start 3 days after the one before it. This is only because Keanoite feels we can't/shouldn't do an entire season discussion for each season, which if we did and each season had 7 days it would only take 98 days ^_^ Idk over 2 years to watch all of Buffy again for fun... or 3 months to watch all of Buffy for fun. I'm for the latter going with 3 months, but I said I'd go along with watching each episode one after another and discussing it if we would start the next discussion a few days later and not a full week. I don't see your rush Gategod since everyone else is sticking to the group rule.
My only rush is I was going to watch Buffy again and wanted to do it with everyone. I thought it would be fun, you clearly don't. It would take over 2 years if I listen to you, which I won't. Either each season gets 7-14 days to discuss, or each episode gets seven days to discuss, but the discussions for each ep start every three days ^.^ This would still take... over a year, but it would be fun...

So what should we do? A season discussion that could take a week or two for each season, or an ep by ep discussion that would take a year or two, I'm cool with either.

You do realise this isn't something you have to do right? The reason it was set with such a large gap was to give the most amount of time for people to see the episodes. You can watch the season as whatever pace you want, but by setting a large gap you can get the most amount of people to see them!

Here's what we'll do:

We will of course continue our weekly discussion. That was the main reason for opening this part of the boards...to have a weekly discussion of the episodes in order. Just like we would've done when they were still on the air.

If anybody wants to start another discussion thread, they are free to do so. They just need to understand that some people might not respond to it for various reasons. Whether it be an interest in the topic, or a lack of time. It doesn't matter. Everyone is free to respond as they wish.

So, let's play nice!

After much reflection, it has been decided that in this particular forum of the boards (The group episode discussion), we will focus on the weekly discussion and other discussions that are part of the group.

If anybody has any discussion ideas (such as discussing a season in it's entirety or specialized character discussions), those are to be posted in their correct forums. For example, if you want to discuss season two of Buffy, you may in the season 2 forum.

It will just keep everything neater and more well-run.
