Bring your discussion ideas! While I've started off a basic timeline for discussing threads, I'm sure there are plenty other ideas on themes, arcs, character development and such that are evident in episodes that you would want to discuss.
Please feel free to post your ideas here! This is a free for all forum of ideas! Then we can see what everyone wants to be discussing and direct our discussion threads around that!
i was wondering, after we've discussed the premier of each season, it might be a good idea to then discuss the finale of each season? again, it would show how each character has changed over the course of that season, as well as from the beginning of the show. it would also be nice to discuss the cliffhangers at the end of the seasons, and talk about how they left us feeling for the months in between the old and new seasons.

that was my next idea! Great minds think alike :)

maybe, since it is a small group, each person could pick one episode that they want to discuss after we're done with these discussions. that way, everyone will get at least one episode they really want to talk about.

I like everone's ideas. I think it might be cool to discuss the different aspects of each episode as well, i.e. the acting, the writing, the story, the music, etc. We could then decide which episodes had the best of everything, i.e. best acting, best music, best story, best script, etc. I really like the idea that we each pick one episode to discuss. (Currently thinking about which one I would choose.)

In a couple weeks, we'll be done reviewing the season premieres. Start thinking about what you want to be discussing next! There is definitely plenty of time and I'm sure everyone has great ideas.

Okay, I'm looking at three ideas for the next round of discussing:
1. Season finale's (run similar to our premiere discussions- seven weeks)
2. Episode compare/contrast (taking two episodes and comparing/contrasting them)
3. Character centric discussions (For example, Cordelia, Angel, Buffy, etc.
Also, do you guys want to have more than one discussion going on at one time? We spent seven weeks discussing the premieres. If you wanted, we could do more than one discussion a week. We could do the finales and also another idea that was suggested by a member.
Let me know. I would like to start the next round on Saturday or Sunday of this week!
Keep posting!

I really like the idea of comparing two episodes, erh, or I really like all the ideas. And I'm up for more than one discussion per week too..

That's what I was really thinking and hoping for. Just to keep us going more..having two discussion going at one time.
i'd really like to discuss the finales from each season...comparing how we felt, you know, on that cliff hanger every year! lol
but also, and i don't know if this is possible, how about discussing 'Restless' and how that episode played out over seasons 5, 6, and 7? you know, all the little clues that were in there, like Dawn, and Buffy's death and everything.
SpikedBuffy
07-11-2006, 05:16 PM
I think we should definitely do the finales now also. Those cliff-hangers were sometimes not the best things... makes the summertime to ansty! :)
Restless would be a good episode discussion. Would definitely need to rewatch it again...but I do remember it being played out of the remaining seasons.
Another Apocalypse?

Yeah, I think it would be a good idea to discuss the finales. After the premieres it would make a change. Also, I'm all for having more than one going on at a time, makes it run smoother IMO.

Hey guys!
Okay, we are getting back on track starting this weekend. We are going to kick major booty.
We've all taken a short break, obviously had much more important things to do. But, that ends. I'm married now and my husband si already calling me the 'control-freak mean wife' and I'm instituting that here! :)
So get ready! :woot:

Okay, how are you guys feeling about the group right now?
Do you like the roled discussions?
How about the weekly discussions, where we are currently discussing season one. It seems that there is not that much participation. Is it because season one really isn't that exciting?
What else do you guys want to do? Get back to arc discussions, character discussions, comparing two episodes? Give your ideas...lets get this started again!

well, i love the roled discussion!
...and i dont know what to say about the season 1 discussions...i participate! :)

oh, another thing i liked was when we discussed characters! that was awesome! i loved discussing xander and all his character development and stuff! and i think that got lots of participation also.
i believe that part of the problem with participation is that some people enjoy discussing only certain aspects of buffy. any character or episode they dont find interesting or discussion-worthy gets less attention and less posts. that certainly does not seem to be the whole of it though, just a part (in my opinion).

I loved discussing Xander too. That was fun. Maybe some more character discussions... bleh.
I agree with SoF that most of our group members aren't really participating enough for certain episodes. I may be one of those, actually, 'cause I didn't really get into the whole roled discussion thing. It's pretty cool, but kind of hard. For me at least.

Agreed! But, I was trying to 'get back to the roots' and have the weekly discussions, just like when the show was on the air. And we can definitely have more than one discussion going at a time.
My only concern with the character discussion, became because of the character forum...where you can discuss the characters. But, if it's going to get us active again... the more ideas the better!
And please guys, if you have anything you want to dicuss, please start a thread! You don't have to wait for me to do it! I am not the only thread starter here!

Okay, we've been seriousy lacking here!
Any more ideas? Comments?
Want to get back to the character discussions? Or Arc discussions?
Let me know here guys!
Also, please feel free to start your own threads here too! I'm not the only one who can start them. Trust me, I'm not that cool. :)

You know what would be kinda cool? It may seem a little bit impossible with lotsa people and such in different places...but my friend and i, we liked watching buffy together, but when we couldnt physically be at each others houses, we'd syncronize and watch 'together' and chat about the episode at the same time.
Maybe we could all log on at the same time, watch and episode, and talk about it while watching it. Coz usually at the end, you dont note down everything you wanna talk about.
just an idea :D

that would be soooo hard though lol.. as we are all in differnent time zones.. but maybe we could all pick one ep.. and each of us go off.. sit down.. write down notes (as we watch the ep).. and sorta post our own commentary.. i dont know.. but i dont know how that can work ^

01-26-2007, 08:47 AM
haha well we're both insomniacs it seems, and we're the only ones down under right? where else is everyone located?
well, i'm in the UK, as is BOTD, and i think everyone else is in the US...it's too difficult for everyone to pick a time and watch together, but somethinglike shoosing an ep we all agree on and taking notes would work well. just not the time thing, lol.
zombie.apparatus
01-26-2007, 09:17 AM
yes, we cant control time.. but we can choose a time to watch it ourselves :)
mogwaid
01-26-2007, 09:38 AM
Dang *rolls time machine back into cupboard*
All righty, i can work with the taking notes thing.
But sometimes it might be like "Oh man, check out Buffys hair there, doesnt it look weird! Oh look at Xanders face there, its such a cute face!"
SpikedBuffy
01-26-2007, 03:22 PM
I do like the commentary thing though. That's quite a good idea. We've got the character commentaries that we've been doing, but a member commentary might work nicely.
What do you all think?
i think we should do this in seasons. choose an ep from each season and work our way through, one ep per week.
but we'll need to come up with at least one ep per season that we can all agree on. the later seasons we'd maybe need to do one or two eps...maybe even three.
anyone wanna suggest an ep from season 1 we can start with?
Spirit_Of_Fred
01-26-2007, 05:37 PM
this sounds like a fun idea! maybe we could start with a different season than one as we have already done, in some form, discussions on most of those episodes. that or we should go to the next one we havent discussed, which is, i believe, the only one we havent discussed in season one.
that sounds good, we could start this off with Prophecy Girl, if everyone's willing to give it a shot.
it would mean actually sitting down and watching the entire ep, and taking notes at the same time on things we notice that we think that others might miss.

I'm up for that! When do we start? *Clipboard at the ready*

If anybody wants to start this, feel free to go ahead! You don't have to wait for me :) I will though, if you all want.
I do like this idea... our own personal commentary about the eppies. Although, I will say that mine are sometimes shallow....like... "What the heck is Willow wearing?"

dont worry, SB. my comments are sometimes on clothes/hair :silly:. im not sure i have the time to sit and watch this time around, but i guarantee that if this keeps going, ill do some of the others. i could comment on your guys' comments though, if thats ok.

ooooo this is going to be interesting reading others peoples thoughts on episodes... so SpikedBuffy ... wanna start? :D
wiat, have we decided which ep we're gonna start with? there are two eps from S1 we haven't duscussed yet, 'Nightmares' and 'Out of Mind, Out of Sight' or am i missing something?
there's also 'Prophecy Girl' which we covered in the season finale discussions, but it might be worth going over again.
zombie.apparatus
01-27-2007, 12:18 PM
how about we discuss Nightmares? that could be interesting :silly: nah any of the above are fine Lyri :D
well, as 'Nightmares' was supposed to be the next ep anyway, i think we should do that one.
zombie.apparatus
01-27-2007, 10:12 PM
ok then Nightmares it is.. goes off to watch :silly:
where do we post? :S

I guess make a new thread? Detailed written commentry on 'nightmares'
SpikedBuffy
01-28-2007, 10:02 AM
I think we're just generally discussing "nightmares"... we need to pick a different episode for this to start on.

what you mean.. we need to pick a differnt ep?
im so blonde atm.. lol.. i blame time.. i cant think straight
:iamwithst
ok then, 'Nightmares' was gonna be next any way, but i still think we should start this new thing off with a S1 ep...so i suggest 'Out of Mind, Out of Sight'
questions? Comments? lol

Yup, I agree. We've already discussed Prophecy Girl twice now (season finale discussion and roled discussion)
So, next week, after discussing Nightmares, we could start of week 11 by this new discussion thing.

HELLO EVERYONE!
It's time to start kicking butt in here!
We've kind of have a little hiatus, and now it's time to start chattering. We need some new ideas for discussing all of our favorite episodes.
We've got some ideas that we'll probably start doing:
1. General weekly discussion following the series. We'll be starting up with season two
2. Roled discussion (members chose a role from the episode and post as if they were the characters)
3. Personal Commentary: Providing a personal commentary on eps
What else can we do? I understand that you don't always want to discuss the current week's episode (if you don't particularly like that episode). I was thinking of doing some sort of poll where we choose four episodes a month based on majority to also discuss.
Any other ideas? Hit me with your best shot!
mogwaid
03-30-2007, 02:17 PM
maybe when we pick an episode, we can pick our favourite quotes from it. Or our favourite quotes from each character.
We can also play a "what if?" kinda game, we say "what if, buffy didnt stab faith" etc. Or "What you would have changed in this episode".
Not sure if these will work, but suggestions nonetheless.
On a side note: Woo I've reached 300 posts!
Spirit_Of_Fred
03-30-2007, 06:25 PM
i like the quote idea, because people, including me, often end up posting our favourite quotes anyway.
however, im not sure i like the voting for four episodes idea. true, it might get the majority opinion, but maybe not all of them will post anyway, and if some of those people were the majority of voters, we lose them, and people who didnt vote for those eps and don't like them. im not sure about a solution; just offering my opinion :silly:.
and on a side-note: woo-hoo mogs! 300 posts! :D
EDIT: also, not liking episodes is not the only factor. sometimes i dont post because i just dont have the time. other times people dont see the thread. i believe that liking the episode is an important factor, but i have posted about episodes i havent liked, so these other things are also important to factor in. im sure you're on top of all this already though, SB :p.
SpikedBuffy
03-30-2007, 06:34 PM
I agree. :)
I get your point about the voting thing.

I notice that you've done the character discussion. How about each person making up a history of a character and/or a future ?, maybe leave the threaad open for two or four weeks, that would enable folk to have new ideas to discuss. Those that reply can add a name to the list or start a new thread.
Suggested names to begin.

that sounds interesting, ILLYRIAN.
i actually have another idea which is sort of modifying BOTD's idea, since we dont seem to be doing that any more, maybe this would get more/different ideas out. instead of picking a character and talking about what was going through his or her head throughout the episode, we could actually take a pen and paper, watch the episode in the mindset of a particular character, and make little notes as we watch, then post them. does that make sense?
EDIT: kind of like Seven Of Nine does here (http://www.buffy-boards.com/showpost.php?p=432211&postcount=1), but in the voice of another character. it seems kind of different from what we were doing before, and it wouldnt depend on waiting for all the characters to respond, cause we could repsond to the few that posted.

I'm all open to suggestions here! And you guys don't have to wait for me to start a thread. Please feel free to do it. I'm very busy right now getting ready for the next school year, so I haven't really been keeping up with it.
So, please, don't be afraid to do your own thing! My only advice is make sure the threads you starts actually would fall in this part of the forum. :)
