I have a quick question concering Amber on Buffy. Amber was with the show for a good three years, so why wasn't she ever put into the opening credits?

She was. In Seeing Red (i think.Whatever one she died in anyway)
I think Joss wanted to put someone in the credits and kill them in the same episode so he waited til then.

haha, thats great. Put someone who has been on the show for three years in the credits on the episode where she dies:P Thats like retarded. She might have been in the credits of the episode, I'm not sure though. I'll re-watch the episode tonight.
But I was just watching Season Six, and I was just wondering why never put her in the credits. Sure they had lil clips of her, but never a little part addressing her and her character. :(

She was definately in the one she died. Joss likes messing with peoples heads :)

Oh lol, well bad Joss then. I don't like my head being messed with:P
I still think they should've had her in the credits lol. She was basically a regular, so I don't see why they didn't.

They never had Eliza in the credits either. She was in it just as much.
And they took Anthony Head out of the credits just for him to be in most episodes.

Im pretty sure anyone in the credits needs to be paid more than just a guest star, so it could have been financial reasons.

Well but like Tara had two more years on Eliza though. I can get not putting a character in the credits, if they're just there for that season. But I don't see why they don't put them in if they're going to be on the show for several seasons.
I always thought that they took him out because he wasn't in many episodes in Season 6, and then only half of Season 7. *shrugs*

And you could be right. Maybe financail reasons... Hmmmzz

I think I remember hearing that he wanted to do the whole surprise death thing.
And this I'm not sure on, I could be completly wrong, do not take it as fact, unless someone knows for sure, But I remember hear that she declined being in the credits, cuz she knew she was leaving, I'm to tired right now to have a look, so I could be wrong!

See, I always wondered why they had Anya in the credits instead of Tara... To me they were equally the same. Sure, Anya had maybe a lil more season on Tara(her few appearances in Season 3), but still.. Ohwell though.

Actually, i think i remember reading that Amber was never interested in becoming a full time member of the cast because she wanted the freedom to pursue other things.
This worked well for Joss as although Willows new found sexuality was part of an exploration of the character, he didn't want it to be a central focus of the show, he wanted the idea that life carries on as normal no matter what the relationship.
The reason she is on the 'Seeing Red' credits is again more to do with a thank you to the Fans. It was a way of giving Tara the status to, to show how important she was to the show, while still being shocking.

Exactly. I think both Amber and Joss agreed that she shouldn't be in the credits. Also, she was always meant to leave, they just kept her on the show for another year, and then another..
I would have liked to see her in the credits as well, wish she would have been, but I sort of understand why she/he/they didn't do it that way.. hm.

yey, I knew I had herd that Amber didn't want to be in the credits, I'm not crazy. It would have also been good for her resume, cuz even being in that one episode would have gave her the title of cast regular, Joss did the same thing with, The actress who played Harmony, (I'm completly blanking on her name and it's driving me insane!!), she was added to the last few episodes of Angel as a regular, cuz Joss wanted to recognize her, since she had been there since season 1 of Buffy.

also, andy hallet who played lorne was there for very long time until he got in the credits. and i liked what joss did with her being in the credits and then dying. it made it all more emotional. i read somewhere he wanted to do that with jesse in s1, but decided not to, or possibly couldnt. i cant really remember why (anyone know?).

The show was just starting up and it was too expensive to put Eric Balfour (Jesse) in the credits.

OT... I just noticed this, watching "Underneath" for the first time on Monday. Actually my first reaction was "Oh my god... Harmony's gonna die!" :confused3

I think it was because she was only available to do 16 or 17 episodes in Season 6 and cast regulars usually do at least 20 or 21 episodes per season. Also what eponinethen said about them planning to kill her character in Season 5 (I read an interview where Joss said this but he couldn't bring himself to kill her so soon). During Season 6 started he blogged answering fans concerns that Amber seemed to be getting a few episodes since she broke up with Willow and he said something like "she's in the same amount of episodes that she was in last season." (not a direct quote).
However, I think she should have been added to the credits by Season 5 (I mean come on they added Riley). She certainly deserved it and seemed she fulfilled the need for stability in the group during Season 6 after Giles left.

Much as I adore Joyce, I think the beauty of her character was that she was a supporting role. That made the episodes where she took the fore - be it as a teenager or a corpse - all the more special. I get what you mean though. Even when she wasn't in episodes, she was always there. But the character works better in the background. Just like a good mother. Always there, but never too intrusive.

Does it even matter who was in the credits? I mean realy, what's the difference.
Though I would've like to see Lilah in the credits. She was around for 4 frickin years.

I think just because she WAS a main character, but she was never in (almost) every episode of the season. If you noticed, Giles wasn't in S6's credits because he wasn't in every episodes, even though he played a HUGE part. I do like that they had Tara in the credits once before she died though. I had to look up the opening for Seeing Red because I wanted Tara in the GIF I created for another forum.

It wasnt just Amber, it was Andy Hallet and James Marsetrs too. Maybe something to do with money! If your classed as a main actor in opening credits you can command more money from the show.

James Masters got opening quite fast when he became regular. You do have point at Andy Hallett altough.
Personally i just took Tara as main character very fast. I never even knew she was not in credits because i do not really check that. Joyce appeared perhaps more, but she was never main cast to me.

littlewilly agrees: Id say Spike was a main character in seasons 2 4 and 5, but didnt get opening credit til s6
wasnt he in the opening since s4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh2OXBFQSuc), when they re-did the credits around about episode 7? in s2, he wasnt exactly a regular, he was the villain, and he didnt show up again for a whole season (s3) side of one appearance. i think it makes sense.
andy hallet really should have gotten in the opening credits earlier, though. i was surprised by how long it took.

Yeah, he was starting in the episode "The Initiative" I believe, let me check. Yup, that's the episode where he became a permanent cast member in the credits. Afterwards he's in all of the episode's opening credits, so there! (:

sounds like my mum... apparently only us obsessive even give a damn. she didn't care at all about the amber thing, why? cause she skipped all the titles on the dvds.... so she never saw the weirdness of season 4 changes or the superstar titles, meh but its important to us anywhos.
