Just watching season 4 Cavalry and Joss dropped a HUGE plot point that I think everyone missed.
Scene:
Angelus is in the cage and Gunn is watching him holding a flame thrower.
Angelus goes on about how Gunn always plays to his strength and know's where his place is in the big scheme then Angelus says
"That is what is going to keep you alive a whole lot longer then the others".
Now if that is not a freakn' plot turn then I don't know what is?
Thoughts anyone?

yeah I must be missing something too. I mean I know he was going to be made into a vampire if there was a season 6, but I don't see what this has to do with anything. Maybe I am just stupid though

OK we all know how Joss and company liked dropping hints about things that were going to happen. Wether it took 1 episode or a year the event would happen and there would be a flashback scene to explain the 'hint' everyone missed.
Well during Calvary season 4 when they extracted Angel's soul to get info on the Beast. Gunn had just broke up with Fred and was in the basement with the flamethrower.
Angelus was talking about how he liked Gunn because he (Gunn) played to his strength's and how Gunn never tries to change who he is because Gunn knows his place.
So to a vampire like Angelus Gunn would make a good vampire because Gunn is afterall the muscle of the group and he would follow Angelus' orders.
Now wether it was a hint or not IMO that is where the idea of turning Gunn might have came from.

Titan, are you speculating that Joss was considering vampifying Gunn in season 4, then changed direction?
I thought Angelis was kind of giving Gunn sort of a backhanded compliment, messing with his head to piss him off. Or ineptly trying to lure him over to the darkside, heh.

OK, gotcha. That's interesting.

Maybe not in season 4 but maybe later on in the series. We all know how Whedon and company liked to mess with the viewers heads.

See, I get what youre saying but dont believe it.
I heard Gunn was meant to be vamped if there was a season 6. But it wouldnt have anything to do with that.
I dont see Angelus as the type to make Gunn a vamp cos of the things he said. Angelus liked his girls. He wasnt thrilled when Dru brought home Spike.
Yeah, he made Penn, but he made Penn to be like him, not muscle like Gunn would be.
Angelus liked killing and made an "art" out of it. Just like he taught Penn to do. The things he was saying about Gunn didnt imply that Gunn would be like that.
I cant see him wanting Gunn to be a vampire.
OK, I rambled and Im pretty sure most of what I said didnt make sense or have anything to do with what you were talking about. Ah well, Ive gone and typed it now anyway.

No you didn't ramble but try looking at this way. Angelus saw Gunn as a one dimensional person. Fighter. Gunn even said if you screw up just don't do it again and carry on fighting. Sometimes Gunn even seemed to not have a conscious of what he did or thought of the consequences.
It's just that when I read about Amy saying that Gunn was going to be vamped when I watched that scene today I just thought 'hey maybe this is where the idea came from?'

So youre just saying the scene hinted at it (much like the scene in Dopplegangland when Willow said Vamp Willow was "kinda gay")? And not that Angelus wanted to have Gunn on his side?
In that case, fair enough. I think.
I think I need to come back to this thread tomorrow. Maybe I'll make more sense to myself then :p
