James Marsters has been set as a co-lead in the feature film “P.S. I Love You” for Alcon Entertainment. The film stars Hillary Swank, Kathy Bates, Gerald Butler, Lisa Kudrow and Gina Gershon. James will portray the role of ‘John’, the best friend and partner of Gerard Butler’s character.

The film is based on the novel by Cecilia Ahern and will be directed by Richard LaGravenese. The picture centers on a widow whose life is rejuvenated when letters left by her husband send her on a series of adventures. Production will begin mid-October. The film will be distributed by Warner Bros.

Anyone read the book? I herd it's terrible, it was written by the Daughter of the Irish Taoiseach. Is it any good?

That's Bertie's daughter? LMAO

I was going to say that I thought this had been a tv show...but I guess not the same thing.

(Faith they spelled it right the second time - typo ;))

I have read this book, and I actually liked it. It was just a chance to sit back and relax and enjoy a story.

That's exciting that JM is going to be in the movie! :) Double the excuse to see it now!

Yeah I think its the one thats not married to one of the guys from Westlife.

Looked too much like chick lit to me so I stayed away.

Doesn't their family seem like they're out of a bad sitcom? ;)

lol, And now Bertie is being investigated for accepting money from people. Apparently some business man paid for all the costs of Bertie's divorce!!

Better in the long run, I have it on good authority that he put his wife in hospital on at least one occasion.

Curiously, our media has never reported this. I despair of our political system. Laugh all you want at Bush's election fiasco - our president won by default because no other candidates qualified. We didn't even have a presidential election to mess up. Earlier this year, thanks to a spectacular failure of every level of our justice system, a few weeks went by when paedophiles convicted under a particular law could walk free. The government refuse to recognise the riot in Dublin this year as a riot despite the fact that there were marchers stoned and petrol bombs thrown. We sold our neutrality when it was most important. Our Gardai are corrupt and untouchable. And I'll bet you a limb Ol' Bertie will never, ever see prosecution for the bribe thing.

I shook the man's hand once. I wish I'd punched him instead. Irony value alone.

Ranting aside - the book's a passable bit of sentimental fluff. It's hardcore chick lit though, yes.

Really? He doesn't seem like the abusive type. He looks like he might fall over at any moment...

This was so stupid, They just wouldn't call it a riot!! It was so weird!

Mmm, I was there - I mentioned I've had an interesting year - and if that wasn't a riot, I dunno what was. The folks from the North might have started it, but the locals picked up where they left off with admirable enthusiasm. I don't think IRA type activists would take the time to throw bins through Footlocker.

The wife beating thing... I'm reliably informed that this is an open secret among the journalistic (and, apparently, the healthcare-) community, but since there's no paper evidence they can't print. All the newspapers today had a similar notable absence about the bribery claims, except to say "We can't talk about that thing you're all talking about".

PS, I Love You probably wouldn't have been published without Celia's obvious name-value, but I'm told it's not awful.

IMO, regardless of whether it's 'chick lit' and will be a 'chick flick' ;), just the role announcement is getting a lot of notice for James, so as a James fan, it's all good. :) While this type of book or movie is not my personal first choice for reading or watching, I do think that with the caliber and acting credits of the other actors who have signed on for the movie and with Richard LaGravenese writing the screenpaly and directing, the role should be a very good one to showcase his talent to others outside of the sci-fi genre. As fans, we know how talented he is, but it will be nice for others to see it also. :D

There are a few accounts on the IMDb starting to surface from fans who have met/seen James during filming in NYC on PSILY locations. A couple have posted links to pictures they got with him:

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0431308/board/thread/56950133 has a nice account of meeting James by alldevilgirl (he sounds as nice and wonderful as usual :)) and a link to 2 pictures with James and also picures of the fan and her friend with some other actor named Gerard Butler. ;)

and the post here has the link to a picture with James and a fan named faithspunk with her camera phone:

Also, helcat posted her 'report' on CDS in this thread (scroll down to the 5th post):
