View Full Version : Buffy Season Eight

Okay, I realise that it is going to be in the form of a comic but otherwise Buffy Season Eight is exactly the same continuity as the previous seven seasons. With that in mind, is there any chance of giving it a section on the board in the same way that the other individual seasons currently have. I'd have to imagine that when the series begins it is likely to be the most talked about part of the Buffyverse for some time and so it seems a shame that it will be stuck away within the comics section simply because of the format.
It just would seem a pity to me to not give this season as much respect as the previous ones just because they were on television and this will be in a comic. Ultimately they are all telling the same story. So any chance at all of that happening? And yeah, this is partly because I'm already getting ideas for new discussions based on what I know of the new stories. :)

I'll bet ya Buffy's been thinking about that.
I wonder if her thought processes go anything like mine. First off I go "yeah, absolutely. It's going to be talked about, and if it has it's own forum with it's own link off the home page, there will be easier access, more threads, and more clicks. Then you start to consider the hows though...
Do you put it on the home page or in the comics forum? If you put it on the homepage, where do you put it? Below Season 7? In the projects section? Does that feel, and look right?
If you give it it's own section does that seclusion from the comics section make the comics section irrelevant? I'll bet the fact there was a Buffy comic coming out was one of the reasons the comics section was created in the first place. If you now seclude Season 8 from Comics, Comics becomes less clickable?
So do you give Season 8 it's own section in Comics? If you do there's just one big Graphic link in Comics with a bunch of random comics threads below it. What does that look like? What if you give both Season 8 and Runaways their own forums in comics? Does that look better?
What if you just change the graphic link icon for Comics on the home page to a Season 8 graphic? Will that do?
I guess my point here is, yeah at first consideration you go "yeah, great idea", and maybe it is, but then there's other stuff to consider.
I've observed the way Buffy works over the years though, and my best guess is she's watching the posting activity on Season 8, weighing the pros and cons, and at some point we may look up, and see a Season 8 icon.
Edit
I just thought of something else. It's so inconceivable it's almost humorous, but what if season 8 comes out and it's so horrible nobody wants to talk about it. Won't happen of course, still...

That was my thinking at first. Does giving season eight a section of it's own mean that the comic section is going to be less active?
The way I see it, you have to weigh up what aspect of this subject is the most important. Is it more important that it's a comic or more important that it's the actual eighth season of Buffy?
My personal feeling, as I said above, is that the format should take second place to the story it is telling. If we are truly supposed to view this as the true continuation of the series then I think the fairest thing is to give it as much relevance as the previous seven seasons and ignore the form it is presented in.
I think that the comic section will endure without Buffy Season Eight. You still have the Angel IDW series, Astonishing X-Men, Runaways and the various other Buffy non-canon comic series to discuss. I just think that this particular series should be considered a step above the rest in importance. As for discussion, I get the feeling that once the comics are out there will be a hell of a lot to talk about.
And the idea that it's going to be horrible? N4H, you go wash your virtual mouth out right away! ;)

Okay, so what does Buffy know about N4H that we don't know?
Actually, probably best if she doesn't answer that... :D

Was just wondering if Im able to use a signature with Willow; Season 8 Comic drawn? It's the cover of the 3rd comic book... I guess it's not too spoilery, just has her looking like she did a cool spell, which isn't anything new :p But thought I'd check in first.

I don't see why not. I have a banner I use with high tech Buffy, it doesn't seem to bother anybody.
You know where this would be more interesting is what if the banner illustrated a specific spoiler of plot. For example what if it showed Willow versus Amy? What if it showed that then specifically said Season 8, issue # 3?
Even so though, my personal feeling is if it was an unmanipulated promo pic from Dark Horse I'd say it would be fair game. It's like the question "Is what you see in a trailer a spoiler"? Personally I don't think it is. But if a person were to manipulate photos to display a particular spoiler, would that be a different question. I don't know. I think so though.

I think it should have its own forum, like Firefly. Seems like it's just good advertising for the BuffyBoards, generally. Put the vital new stuff up front where everyone can see.
Newbies seeing a Buffy 8 forum will feel they have another important reason to come back and visit the boards, seeing that up front...

We've already taken note of that suggestion and have come up with a plan :)
