The Darla "Debate"

Just a name guys, not an actual debate going on. This is pure speculation that I'm writing here...because I don't know if anyone actually knows...but it might be fun none-the-less.

Darla created Angel and they rode around for something like 100 years killing and what not until they were seperated and Angel's soul was re-ensouled.

He never made it to their rendezvous... then they met up years later in Sunnydale. Darla is acting like a little school girl and being picked on by the Master.

In Angel we see that she was one bad-ass Vamp, so what happened? When did she fall under the master? We see in one episode she gets scolded.

So here's where the fun comes in... complete speculation...does anyone want to try to bridge the gap between Angel missing the rendesvous point and Sunnydale?

- Here's my go...Darla waited and then hooked up with another vampire, she might have even just hung out with Dru and Spike until she was bored enough that she went on her way.

Nights alone she finally sires a new vampire...trying to take him under her wing, but an angry mob attacks the pair and as she has done in the past with Angel, she flees and leaves him to burn. Fast forward to the modern age where she is all alone, and things are new to her... she meets up with Luke and is under his guard? Together planning on resurrecting an army?

Obviously we don't know if that's what happened...but anyone care to add to it? Or chop it down?

Did Darla not meet Angel after he was ensouled?
I vaguely recall Angel attempting to mimic Angelus so he could stay with the group, but when asked to kill an infant, he ran with the child.

Er.. I remember Darla being sired by the Master, but I do not remember if it was from BtVS or Angel.
Probably Angel since that is more into the his history.

Darla was probably just with the Master because, well, she was sired by him and she did not have anything else to do.
After all, Spike and Dru had left Darla for the time being, she had to find something to entertain her.

What I'm curious about is why would Darla try to seduce Angel back to her side when he was ensouled and all, since she couldn't stand him and his stink of humanity.
Eh, probably just a thought of the writers, which was discarded when Angel became popular enough for his own series.

MASTER: (dressed as priest) You can't save her life - perhaps I can still save her soul.
DARLA: My soul is well past saving. Let the devil take me if he'll have me. Either way - I die.
MASTER: No (Pulls his hood back to reveal the Master) you will not die. You will be reborn.
DARLA: I know you.
MASTER: I came to you last night. I sang to you from that window.
DARLA: Hmm, I remember now.You're death?
MASTER: No.
DARLA: What then?
MASTER: I'm your savior. God never did anything for you - but I will.
(He leans down and sinks his fangs into her neck)

I just think they didn't know what they'd do with the character when they started the show... hence the lack of consistency in the way she acts... even though she had to be loyal to the Master, she'd never have acted that way if her story had already been written and she was the Darla they made later lol :silly:

Wait a second...no I remember that episode now...Darla right, it would make sense her obedience to the Master...

And I do remember Angel being called out on the not feeding...
And he didn't make the rendesvous because of Holt...he met up with Darla later...but what do you think happened after he was ensouled and left Darla?

My story keeps getting turned about...sorry.

I think she probably hung out with Spike and Dru for a while and then got sick of them and went on her own. I'm pretty sure she never sired anyone except Liam, but I could be wrong. I think after years of being on her own she met up with the master after she heard he was stuck in that church underground in Sunnydale. I think he told her he would get out eventually with her help. So she stayed to help him and Angel then resurfaced to help Buffy. After that we pretty much know what happened.

I gather they sorta 'revamped' badum bum, the storyline origins of Darla from the time we first saw her in Buffy.

You can see it both in the way she carries herself, both in form and dress, that clearly the Angel-series Darla was inspired by the char played for a couple episodes of Buffy, and that they kept stuff like the Master-Darla relationship, but when they began the Angel series, the more mature series, they were able to adjust the backstory accordingly.

Such as, Darla now has a whore background, which led to her dying of a syphilitic heart condition, saved and turned by the Master. It implies that she's a good deal older than Angel, anyway, she turns Angel and they go on a spree, at some point, seemingly early in the Angel-Darla relationship (less than 50 years I'm guessing?) she introduces him to the Master, and Angel, being the complete arrogant snot he was, trash talked the Master and convinced Darla to abandon him (for the time). Master gives them 'a century, tops".

I'm guessing somewhere near the end of their 150ish years of rampaging, Darla introduces Angel to that captive gypsy, which he eats, then resulting in his subsequent en-souling. She freaks out, kicks him outta the house, and Angel wanders for his lonesome until the Boxer Rebellion, where he briefly tries to hook up with Darla again, but she sees through his act (not harming innocents, only kill 'bad' people) and he finally leaves her for good.

I'm guessing, somewhere after that point, Darla eventually hooks back up with the Master, embaressed and contrite (for a vampire) and largely remains with him until we see her/him again in that first season of Buffy.

It all seems to make sense enough for me.

The Master was her...well, master. He sired her, and she was his favorite (from BtVS 1x06 Angel, I believe). It was a father/daughter, mentor/student (lover/lover?) relationship.

And then she abandons him when the first big hunk comes around. That doesn't work out, so she has to go back to the Master with her tail between her legs.

Most of the time we see her as the "little school girl" is when she's with the Master. He's her boss and he's got a temper, so surely she's going to humble herself before him. The other times we see her (I'm thinking Welcome to the Hellmouth and Angel here) she's got more of that confidence, that aura of strength that we see her with in her later appearances on AtS.

Or, the school girl thing could just be Darla getting into the "role," so to speak. She seems to move on from one interest to another - here, it's school girl uniforms, and as Angel notes, the last time he saw her it was kimonos (which we later see in the AtS episode Darla).
