Was it ever talked about if Spike met The Master.

i can't recall it being mentioned - though he did appear to Spike as the master/the first in Lessons so maybe they met in the 20 years that he, dru, darla and angelus were the fantastic four. oh, and in School Hard (i think, though it might be later - correct me if i'm wrong anyone) angel says that he doesn't think spike should under estimate Buffy as he saw her kill the Master, suggesting that Spike would automatically know who the Master was and why killing him was such a big deal.

he could have met him, but as far as seeing the master as the first, he didnt have to meet him for that to happen. like tranquility said about angelus mentioning him, and spike seeming to recognize him, he could have just heard of his reputation. we already know he'd read about the annointed one, since he said so when he first showed up, so that he had heard of the master is a likely possiblity. also, by the time season 7 came around, buffy likely had told him about the master, and perhaps it was in enough detail that he could recognize him. additionally, they didnt all have to be people spike knew. maybe the first was just becoming all the biggest threats in sunnydale through the years for symbolic purposes. spike was kind of out of it then anyway.

I thought The First could only appear as a certain person who saw them in life. Like how Dawn saw her mom. Willow saw that one girl

No, The First could appear as any deceased person/creature.

I'm sure that even if Spike never met or worked for The Master, he certainly knew who he was through reputation.
