I just wanna know for the record what the ladies think - I'm watching the re-runs and I am certainly the Bangel guy - but come on...is he really that hot?

Cuz I'm thinking not so much. But I could be wrong :) As for Spike, yeah definitely a better looking dude for sure, but what about Giles, the guys got distinction - ok that was me throwing it out there as a joke.

Anyone got an opinion on this matter?

when Angel was on Buffy i wasn't that much of a fan, as far as his looks went. there was Xander and Spike for me to drool over, why did i need Angel? lol

but then he got his own show, and he really had to step up to the plate as far as leading the gang went, and then it was like 'well, yeah, ok, maybe i'm a little attracted' (lol, Doyle line) he definitely got better looking as the years went on IMO, but i think he's much better looking now, on Bones than he ever was. there are other actors on the shows that i would say are better looking than Angel...Spike, Xander, Connor, for example.

so, to answer...yes, he is hot, there are just other guys better looking, IMO.

no, i'm not on drugs. like you said, you should respect other people's opinions. it just goes to show that people have vastly different tastes. i'm not going to apologize for thinking that Nick and Vinnie are hot, because to me they are.

Season 1 I thought Angel was hotter than hot...then School Hard aired and there was this buff, blue-eyed, bleached, bad boy Brit and I renouced my Angel lustage.

When Angel first started (as in the show)...I'll admit Doyle also had me a little hot under the collar. I am quite the sucker for blue eyes and an accent :p

And Giles had his moments... ;)

To answer your question: hell yes Angel is hot. Hottie hot hot hot. Perhaps the most gorgeous man to ever walk the face of the earth. Especially when he's Angelus for some reason (not with the wierd wigs thogh, like Season 2 of Buffy with the eyeliner and the pants....mmmm...or no pants.....)

Angel's Baby I totally agree with you 100%. He takes the cake, and then shoves it into everyone elses face because they are not as hot as he is. The only one who ever comes even remotely close is Spike, and only early on in Buffy. Towards the end, his age kinda started to show. But he is still really good looking for someone who is almost the same age as my parents.....

David is handsome for sure, I haven't seen him in Bones ( maybe I should check it out...that Bones show ) but oh well. Sometimes he seems hot, but most of the times no lol He just isn't my type I guess. He doesn't have that dangerous vibe in him or that special sparkle in the eye :D Like James does.
Oh, yes sure his age became more visible with the seasons and especially in the Angel series but man he's so charismatic!

As far as any of the guys on the show goes, they all had their good moments, but I personally didn't find any of them to be "hot". Angel was the more handsome of the guys, though, IMO. None of them just oozed the sex appeal I need to classify a guy as hot. Plus a guy's gotta have long hair to be put in my "hot" class. I'm a sucker for bad boys with long hair, so Dracula gets the vote for hottest on my end! LOL! ::bbat::

pshh, yeah he is! david boreanaz is a very gorgeous man. i know i drool over him when i see him on screen, whether it be when he's on 'buffy' or another show/film. this show just has lots of hot looking guys on it, and i wouldn't necessarily say he's the hottest one on the show, because that's a matter of opinion. everyone's going to think differently, and sometimes hotness can include personality along with looks. which, in my personal opinion, is why i spend most of my timing dreaming about xander. he's very good-looking and adorable, funny & a sweet guy on top of it. but david is definitely up there

I'm probably alone, but for the most part I don't find ANY member of the Buffy cast "hot", really. Charisma Carpenter being the exception.

Sarah is sometimes pretty but usually too bony. Willow is just...eh. Cute but a complete non-sexual way. Dru...ugh. Anya was okay most of the time. Jenny Calendar was a TILF. ;)

All the guys were really goofy-looking, I can see where girls would find them cute but I don't see how they could be proclaimed the sexiest people alive. *shrug* My mom thinks David is sort of ugly, she thinks he looks his best in "Bones".

I thought Angel was very good-looking (more than Spike, in my opinion), but I never had a crush on him or any Buffy/Angel characters. I think some people find Spike hotter because he's a real bad boy, while Angel is broody. Buffy was certainly attracted to Angel's broodiness, but I guess not all of you are.

I've never really though Spike was that attractive. I mean, he could be very "ooh, not bad" sometimes, but I generally thought Angel was beyond better looking.

Now, Wesley - that's a different story. Seasons 4 & 5 of Angel were SO his! He's very attractive. :D

Yes! Wesley! My friend and I had this debate during an episode of Angel, once. I was like, "I don't get it. Why choose Angel when you could have Wesley?" The stubble, the facial expressions... he actually made broody hot, whereas Angel just sort of seemed whiny.

Physically, I think David was more attractive during Season 1. After that, his age started to show. Not good for an immortal character.

The one who always made me all hot under the collar was Giles. He got more and more attractive as the seasons progressed. It's hard for me to separate the actors from the characters that they play, though, so the biggest part of the Giles appeal was his awesome personality. He can do it all. He's a nice, sort of nerdy guy who I am certain could find his way around a Jane Austen novel, but he's also got the "bad boy" thing in his past. He sings and plays. He makes the hard decisions and does Buffy's dirty work. And he also boinks her mom - twice - on the hood of a police car. Gosh - I think I'm drooling.

So, yeah, Angel was physically attractive, but there were other guys on those shows who had a lot more than just looks going for them, so they made my little heart go pitter patter a lot more often than Angel did.

Im not even attracted to guys, but in my opinion, I think Angel is a good looking bloke. More so in the early years of Buffy than later on Angel. (but he's still good looking then too I spose). He's attractive on 'Bones' too, but its hard, coz its the character that makes them seem more attractive. He's just older now, on 'Bones'. But all in all, my final analysis is that he is a attractive man.

Edit: While we're on the subject of guys on Buffy/Angel....I thought that Spike was also a good looking bloke too, but not as much as Angel. I didnt find Giles/Wesley/Xander/Doyle/Gunn attractive at all. Oz was all right. Riley...he was o.k except his hair when he first came on the show...it was all...floopy. =/

Okay, prepare for a babble people.

If I had to choose between Angel and Spike, I find the *character* of Spike more sexy but David Borenaz is more my type (Tall, dark hair, dark eyes, all over with the shapelyness), so if I had to choose out of the actors it would be David, but out of the characters it would be Spike.
But like Palabra, I'm a total Giles girl- both the character and the actor definitely rock the hotness radar for me. Though since I obviously know the character more than the actor I'll ramble about the reasoning behind Giles- it's like Palabravampiress said- it's the melange of emotions and sides to him that make him so darn hot. Ranges from bookish shy and nervous 'would it appear indecorous'(speaking of wasn't that the *cutest* ask-out speech you'd ever heard) Giles to Twice-on-the-hood-of-a-police car Ripper. Plus the befuddled expression ASH pulled off so many times throughout the series? .::swoon::.
Anyway, I'm back. I also have crushes on Xander (again both actor and character. The character is lovely and again with the dark hair and eyes makes the actor my typical type ;-)) and Oz (this is mainly a character crush though).

I guess what I'm trying to say is, yes, Angel is unbelievably hot...if David is your type (which you know he is for me) but as far as characters go there are a lot more attractive characters in the series. Although Broody Angel did always get me going....

Upon reconsideration, I did find Angel indescribably *hot* as Angelus in Season 2 of Buffy. That was before DB started to age pretty rapidly (given that his character was supposed to be immortal) and when he lost the mopiness and unleashed the evil. I like the evil characters, so that might also have something to do with my season 2 Angelus crush.

Oh - and that scene in season 3, I think it is, when Angel drinks Buffy's blood and it is [bring out sarcastic voice] not in any way, shape, or form indicative of any other physical activity [drop sarcastic voice] is also really hot.

Angel(us) has his moments. He's just not at the top of my list. If I were a chick in the Buffyverse and I was paired with Angel(us), I'd be more than happy to do him. I would just be casting sidelong glances at Giles and most of the other guys when Angel(us) wasn't looking.

Yeah - eww. It creeps me out just thinking about it. It's not the age difference, really, but the whole Oedipus thing. I did like how they brought it up in season 5, though. Connor was turned on by Illyria and he said, "Sorry. I guess I've always kind of had a thing for older women." Angel shook his head and muttered, "They were supposed to fix that!"

And yeah, as much as I think Snyder is funny in Band Candy, he gets no candy from Palabra; however, his replacement, Principal Wood, was the hottest principal ever.

So, yeah, Angel(us) is apparently higher on my list than I once thought, especially when we take into consideration minor characters, ancillary characters, and demons of the non-hybrid variety. Angel, however, remains a lot lower on my list than Angelus, whom I absolutely adore. He's a fun (and funny) villain.

We're getting a little off topic, so I started a thread for this convo in Inside Out. I think I titled it "Little Black Book." I do make a difference - a huge difference - between Angelus and Angel. Angelus is up near the top, while Angel is down near the bottom. Those two characters are polar opposites, and I definitely take character into account.

I get what you're saying about Spike. He landed near the top for me, though. I was surprised. I didn't think I liked him that way. I have a huge writer crush on him, but the hair was always sort of a turn off. I guess I got over it.

I liked that he was annoying and creepy. It made him a cool villain. But not everyone is like me and goes for the villains. And the dialogue? I thought he was 10 times more entertaining as Angelus (on Buffy) than as Angel. That's just on Buffy, though, not on his own show.

Good lord, I guess those of you that don't think Angel is hot are just LUCKY that you aren't as enthralled by Angel as I am. He makes me absolutely melt. And did none of you watch the scene where he gives Buffy that claddagh ring? That didn't make you fall in love with him? Oh wait, that doesn't really have to do with his hotness.. did any of you LOOK at his gorgeous body in ANY of his scenes? And his ANGELIC face that he was named after? Holy man, how can you not think he's hot, he's practically perfect! Haha well it's clear we all have VERY different tastes, but mmmmm Angel haha ;)

Like I said earlier, he's just not my type. I'd take Giles over just about any of the Buffyverse men any day of the week, but Angel isn't high on my list. To each his or her own.

You mentioned him being practically perfect, and that got me to thinking: I think the "perfection" that you mention is actually what turns me off. Angel looks sort of like a cardboard cut out. He's like an ideal, not like an actual man. He looks sort of like an anatomy lesson or a classic statute, not like a real, flesh-and-blood man. There aren't any subtle imperfections or unique qualities that make him stand out. I feel the same way about Nick Lachey and some soap actors and male models. If a guy is classically good looking without any real distinguishing features, I am more likely to be turned off than turned on. I find near-perfection rather unsettling.

Although, I WILL say, that when he's acting like an idiot, like when he's hopping up and down because Cordy likes the clothes he got him or when he's doing the stupid dance at Cordy's party....he is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!

Hmm... well imo, unlike Nick Lachey, it's not as if Angel is conceited or into his looks at all. He's just casually the most gorgeous guy ever. And I think he has beautiful eyes.

Angel's pretty hot, but he's not exactly the most handsome man alive. He was definitely at his best in Buffy and early Angel, and after about early Angel season 2, his looks went way downhill. I feel so shallow saying this, but...yeah, Angel's hot, but if he was a real guy, a talent scout probably wouldn't see him at a party and say "You're a very beautiful man," and a girl who'd just seen him on the street wouldn't spend the next few weeks gushing about how hot he was (keep in mind that both of these things happened.)

So, yeah. Bottom line, Angel's sort of hot, but definitely overrated on the show. And, in my honest opinion, Spike and Wesley are much better looking.

Bad hair aside, I do find Spike attractive. I also agree with Diou444; Spike's "crazy" hair with the curls... that was a good look for him. I don't know why JM always compains about his curly hair. It looked nice.

Sometime David looks really good but other times he's quite average. I agree that he looks better on Bones than he did on Angel. I thought he looked a bit weird in the first few episodes of Buffy - there's something strange about his sideburns, they're too short or something

Oh yeah, Angel is definitely hot, how can this even be a question, lol? What's there not to like about him? To sum it up in Cordelia's words: 'Hello salty goodness!'
And he's definitely the hottest guy on Buffy/Angel imo. There was s4/5 Wesley, who was pretty good, and well, that's pretty much it. Okay, maybe Spike sometimes, but he's not really that hot.
I think Giles was too old for me, Xander Oz and Gunn not really my type, and Riley just reminded me too much of my brother.
And for the British accent, or being British, people here...lol, that's something probably not understandable for most of you here, but speaking English in general is already a turn on for me, lol.

My bf and I always have this fight. He can't understand how I find Spike so much more attractive than Angel, and to him Angel is perfect man-specimen.

That's my problem. David just looks to perfect for me to find him attractive. It's like all those underwear models- they all have society's 'perfect' male look. Which is just off-putting. Unlike other people though, I found him more attractive in Seasons 1 & 2, particularly when he was Angelus- it's the 'cocky git' look (thats what I call it), that I find more attractive.

But in general, he's just too much for me to think 'mmm'. Intellectually I know he's attractive, but he just doesn't do it for me so much. At least Spike has flaws etc which makes him more accessible in my opinion. Also, I'm a sucker for a bad guy!

Angel got a little paunchy over time. He had a nicer body in the earlier seasons of Buffy. I'm not complaining, though. I mean, they both have nice bodies -- nice, but different. DB is more of the broad-shouldered, can-build-bulk-quickly type. A lot of chicks dig that. He looks sort of like a model or an athlete, especially in earlier seasons.

Spike didn't have that model/athlete build, but he wasn't scrawny. He hit the undead gym or something and, for season 6, got himself some very nice washboard abs (because Joss warned JM that he wanted him to get buff in order to go after Buffy). He wasn't so weirdly ripped in other seasons, but in six, he was pretty darn buff. The actor just has a naturally thin frame. There's a difference between being scrawny and having a thin, yet well-muscled, frame.

I will admit that Spike did look scrawny in season 4, but that was before he started drinking pig's blood. The Initiative starved him for awhile. In season 6, he looked ripped. In the other seasons, he looked naturally thin, yet well-fed. I always thought he kept a nice, healthy physique (except in seasons 4 and 6, for which physical changes were necessary for the story).

But I guess Spike is just more my type than Angel. Spike has my ideal physique (not too small, but not huge), he's got those unique cheekbones that I love so much, he wears cool clothes, he's got a great a great smile, he's got beautiful, sparkling blue eyes, and I absolutely adore the platinum hair. Even though now, I don't think James is nearly as attractive as he was back in his Buffy days, I still think he's stunning (especially for a man of his age. Can you believe he's 45?!)

Angel is very handsome, too, don't get me wrong. In the first season of Buffy (pre-Spike), I thought he was gorgeous. He's just not my type. I think it's the super prominent brow that mainly gets to me. It makes him look a bit like a brute, in my opinion. Plus, I actually prefer skinny guys. It really is each to their own. I mean what you described as off-putting about Angel I find most attractive. I love a guy who has an imposing physical presnece. Makes ya feel safe when they put their arms around ya, where as Spike seems scrawny to me...like I'd break him with a hug!

See I don't think he actually is perfect. Like Spike said he pretty much is Captain Forehead, his nose is freakishly straight and his skin can be really bad at times but I still think he is exceptionally yummy. Although I find the character Angel more attractive than DB strangely enough. It's all about the eyes.

Yeah, Angel's not perfect. Very far from it, in fact. I've always thought his face was a bit strange-looking (the forehead, the nose, the lips...), and in the later seasons of Angel, he got a bit chunky-looking. I think what people are trying to say is that he's pretty similar to the generic good-looking guy.

Angel was just your typical Tall Dark and Handsome number. And that makes many women, myself included, swoon like there's no tomorrow. He's the type that even if you personally don't like him, you can't deny his attractive.

But what always made him just that little bit more irresistable for me? When he gave a flash of that boyish grin. Yep, the boyish smile is what did me. :) haha

This thread makes for interesting reading... I'm kind of baffled of "girl taste" atm.

I mean, Giles is a man even not-into-guys Mysti... uhm... regards fondly :blush:, and with Wes and Spike I can at least say "OK, I see where you're coming from". But Angel? I can easily see "cuteness" in his uneasy/goofy scenes (e.g., yesterday "Harm's Way" first aired in Germany, and his squirmy looks into the camera during that hilarious W&H advertisement spot sure had cuddle potential), but for hotness, I guess I'm using a way different thermometer from you gals. :biggrin:
