Cordelia moving to LA

Was it always Joss' intention to bring Cordelia to L.A. with Angel before season 3 of Buffy ended, or did this happen over the break between seasons?

i have no idea. but with cordy not going to colege, she didn't really havea place in Sunnydale anymore. she was hardly gonna hang out with Xander all day.

but i did read somewhere, i think it was in one of the Watcher's Guide's, that if Angel didn't take off, Joss would bring Cordelia (and possbily Angel) back to BTVS.

in the 'reptile boy' commentary, there was something said about the guy doing the commentary suggesting to joss that cordy should go over with angel, since he is so dark and brooding, and she is so dynamic and comical, or something to that effect.

I was watching the Angel season 1 special features, and I remember this guy mentioning that it was intended for Cordelia to be on Angel. I guess they needed a superficial character to lighten up the show, since it's about a depressed and lonely vampire.

i agree and she was in alot more scenes whenever i was watching Buffy if Cordy would be absent and i'd be all like "Wheres Cordy?" :p

one of the reasons i thinkthey moved her to Angel is that Charisma is so much older(ok not SO much) then the other Buffy cast mates and shes closer to Davids age so they work better together

Charisma was much older than everyone else in the cast not including Anthony Stewart Head. I think she's older than David Boreanaz too. After Sunnydale High, I don't think there would have been much place for her character in BtVS. She served her purpose as being the popular girl stereotype who then falls for the unpopular guy, then loses her man and all her riches. Her storyline was pretty much finished by the end of season 3. If she had stayed on BtVS, I don't imagine her character becoming as significant as it did on Angel because she would somewhat be overshadowed by the other female co-stars. Buffy was the slayer, Willow was an all powerful witch, Anya was a thousand year old ex-demon, and Dawn was some mystical key thing. I couldn't see her surviving until the end of the series. On Angel, Cordy went from being a poor girl living on her own, to vision girl, to half demon chick, to higher being, to big bad, and finally a champion who died for the greater good. Who would have thought the spoiled cheerleader from Sunnydale High would become all of that in her lifetime?

She was asked to be part of Angel, thats why her storyline was so wrapped up on Buffy becuase she was going to be moving on. I'm not sure when she was asked but the idea for Angel came to Joss during the shooting of I Only Have Eyes For You, so anytime after that she would have been asked.
