I thought I had already posted this news here but that must have been on another board...hey ho, with great age comes great memory loss ;) The following article found on the very wonderful UNIT News

BBC Reveal Torchwood Series 2 Details
First Published | 11:24, Monday July 16 2007

The BBC has this morning revealed details of the second series of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood which, like the parent show, will feature a range of special guest stars.

Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), Gwen (Eve Myles), Owen (Burn Gorman), Tosh (Naoko Mori) and Ianto (Gareth David-Lloyd) all return as the close-knit team of investigators solving alien and human crimes as they delve into the underworld of modern day Cardiff.

The high-octane storylines, filmed in and around Cardiff, include Torchwood's encounter with a rogue Time Agent; a tragic time-slip from World War One; and a memory-thief who uncovers long-forgotten secrets among the entire team

As well as Doctor Who star Freema Agyeman the series will see appearances by James Marsters who starred as Spike, the punk-goth vampire, in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel and Alan Dale who is currently appearing in Ugly Betty as Bradford Meade. Dale is also well known for his roles in The O.C., Lost, The West Wing and as Jim Robinson in the Australian hit soap Neighbours.

Current speculation that I've seen sugggests that James is in the series opener as the above-mentioned rogue time agent. The pic accompanying the article (click on the link to see it) seems to suggest that...not to mention that James' character has a thing with Captain Jack ;)

i cannot begin to tell you how excited i am about this. i read in a newspaper today that apparently the ep James appears in is quite violent.

Can't he just be shirtless?

Uh...did I say that out loud? :p

I admire his acting ability almost as much as his washboard abs ;)

We've only just started getting Torchwood in Australia so I'm guessing it's going to be awhile....aw phooey.

What happened to good TV?

thanks for the info. i may have to actually watch an episode of this show...i must admit i am not a fan. i'll even go as far to call it bad television. but if james marsters and alan dale are in it, its worth another watch.

The chances of my getting to see that are nil. Torchwood since the cannabalism episode is in a 12:30 time slot, ratings are likely to be crap.
I don't think the TV station will fork lots of money for a show to be a space filler, so I won't get to see him and I won't buy the DVDs as there are a lot of other contentious issues. I liked to see James in other roles, but any roles in Torchwood are wasted for me.

Hmm perhaps I'll watch give the show another try now.

I think they should try to get the whole cast of Buffy to guest star. In separate episodes, of course. :)

Thats silly!!!

They should have one HUGE crossover (say 13 episodes long) with Torchwood, Dr Who and the Scoobies fighting some evil being that plans world conquest.

Or so I would imagine it's like an acid trip...never done acid before.

Awesome!! Torchwood is so completely different from Doctor Who and yet I love them both! haha I can't wait to see James on it. I'm sure he'll dazzle and impress us :D

James talked about his appearance during a session at dragon*con. His comment was something like "how do you gals stand kissing us, with the stubble and all." What I've read from people who've seen the episode - it is hot hot hot! I can't wait.

I thought it was going to be bad enough that Martha was ruining Torchwood but James too....its like my nightmare season.

While I know it will make me unpopular I really don't like the guy, and Martha is so bland. I adore my Dr Who (have my own SS and Psychic Paper) and Torchwood, here is hoping Jack will continue to produce!

Its this week!!!!

Torchwood season 1 was very hit and miss for me with some episodes the very exemplification of what makes TV good(Countrycide?) and others that are pretty dire(The season finale?!?!) but we're promised a great year.

First off don't Poo Poo James there 'Faith' - lol.
It looks like he's going to be a great character and hopefully one we will see again. He has some partting words for Captain Jack that will set up the season end.

Also, if my sources are accurate, Martha will be part of UNIT which will link with her stint on Dr Who(with The Sontarans!!!) and I love Martha.
I got a little bored with her mooning over The Doctor and I was left a little unimpressed by the end of LOTTL but the rest of the episode was awesome.

I also can't wait for the episode set in the 51st century - which I assume will be to do with James Marsters parting words and I suspect will be the season finale.

My problem with Jame's isn't anything character related, I quite liked Spike. I just don't like the guy anymore. They do say you should never meet people you are a fan of. I've been on the convention and signing events crew/scene for a while now and he just comes off less favourably to me because of what I know. I don't do gossip so i'm not spreading anything around the net and while i'm sure people won't like this its just my opinion.

Thus because I don't particularly like him I find it hard to watch him in things.

My problem with Martha isn't anything personal I just didn't take to the character. I'm hard to please now, I think its old age!

I have to say, that was pretty damned good indeed! I don't normally watch Torchwood, but I enjoyed tonight's.

Couldn't quite place James' accent at times, it seemed to fluctuate between British and American just a little; but nonetheless a great performance, and nice to see a little touch of Spike in Captain John's persona.

Just watched it, and James was awesome as always, what was weird though, was that Captain John was exactly like Spike, a womanising charmer pineing(sp?) for his lost love o_O When he got upset at Jack, i almost heard "If i want Dru back, i just have to find her, tie her up and torture her until she likes me again". He was as funny as he is in all his roles and the only thing i didn't like was his character's dress sense (Wish he could change that godawful looking jacked for his 3 quarter length leather duster) and the fact that he looks weird without his platinum blonde hair D=

I've never watched Torchwood before but when I saw it on tv tonight and remembered James was in it I thought I should give it a go! James was lovelllly as per usual and I agree with Hit The Books about his accent.. One thing though.. what was that jacket he was wearing?!

If i remember I'll watch it next week, as I was quite impressed.. which is rare

i thought it was all fantastic (Yes, i even liked the jacket. it's no leather duster, but it was still nice) loved that his English accent had hints of American.just goes to show how good an actor that man really is. i liked the chemistry between John and Jack, and their fight in the bar.

i've never watched Torchwood before, i don't even watch Dr. Who, but from what i saw, it was pretty good. i might even tune in next week.

It was the white bits coming off the jacket that i didn't like, they just looked weird D=

And i suggest you do keep watching Torchwood, the trailer at the end of that episode seems to show James coming back later in the series =D

Well, I liked the Jacket! It looked like Capt. John had been collecting weapons and military kit throughout the ages (or raiding Adam Ant's wardrobe :))

Anyway, a good, solid start to series two. Jack came back from helping to save the world in Last of the Time Lords and no-one knew because of the rewind...they just seemed a bit pissed off 'cos he didn't tell them where he was going...genius :)

James' accent worked for me...I just can't get used to his American voice, which I'm guessing is the one heard in Smallville.

First of all, i'm going to defend the Jacket.
I thought it was awesome and want one.
Obviously it was akin to Jacks WW2 attire. I loved his accent and I'm probably 'outing' myself here but his kissing Jackn was hot!!!!

I did find a few bits predictable but the episode teaser was enough to make me say it was a great episode.
Can't wait for Martha, can't wait for more James(who SHOULD be a permanent member - he'd be great).

Was anyone else, when John asked about team names hoping when he listed excaliber and such, that he would say 'scoobies'?

Great first episode and can't wait for more.

My only issue with it, I have to say, is that the character relationships aren't as greatly written as they are in Dr Who.

I haven't watched a single episode of Torchwood up 'til now and after seeing it last night I wouldn't really want to have, for the rest of the cast I mean.

But James was brilliant in this episode:lmao:loved every scene he was in, and was it me or were his character and Jack just out-acting the rest by...a lot?

The jacket was cool, his hair being the normal colour didn't phase me much, and there was a lot of the Spike mannerisms coming through, especially towards the end of the episode.

"I've only got five minutes to live and you expect me to behave?!"

And that kiss was...very believable.

I've watched only a few episodes of Dr Who and this was my first episode of Torchwood. I'm a little confused with the character relationships lol I thought Gwen and Jack had a bit of romantic chemistry but she's engaged to someone else, then there's Jack's interest in Ianto and vice verser and then there's the kiss with John. It all makes for confusing TV lol

James' accent was great. I can't picture him with anything other than an English accent now. It just doesn't sound right.

I'm trying to find season 1 of Torchwood now so I can fill in the blanks lol

Marsters: Captain John 'is like Spike'
Tuesday, January 29 2008, 13:26 GMT

By Ben Rawson-Jones, Cult Editor

James Marsters has admitted that his Torchwood character Captain John is similar to the role he played on Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

In an exclusive interview with Torchwood Magazine, Marsters said: "In a lot of ways, this role is very much like Spike was in my first three episodes of Buffy. After those three episodes, Spike was always taken down a peg, because Joss [Whedon, Buffy showrunner] didn't want the audience thinking he was cool."

Marsters, who played cockney vampire Spike between 1997 and 2003, continued: "They basically deconstructed him, but it had the opposite effect, and he became cooler than ever: the outsider's outsider, in a show of outsiders!"

Captain John initially appeared in the opening episode of Torchwood's second season 'Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang', but is scheduled to return later in the series. He added: "This role is about unrepentant evil, and having as much fun with it as possible. I wish Spike had been like that a little longer, to be honest."

It's clear he thinks his character Spike could have been written a bit differently, but like he said no matter what Joss did he still appeared cool. I'm glad James is able to play this type a bit more. I love his new character on Torchwood. Can't wait to see where they take it.

Y'know what I couldn't help thinking when I saw JM's episode of Torchwood? (don't watch the show in general, caught this one just to see JM in another role) . . . I thought: "That poor actor! He seems doomed to be that guy that gets beaten up, then made out with, then beaten up, then made out with, then beaten . . . often both by the same character!" What is it about his screen energy that says "I want you! Now hit me!!!"? Poor boy.

Mr. Pointy agrees: Five house points for not spoilering me until I get to see it on terrestrial TV :)

But it was on Terrestrial TV on Friday night.

It has changed times to Friday night because the Last Episode is on Friday 4th as a lead up to Doctor Who premiere.

However I didn't spoiler it because I was sure people would have missed it as I only found it by accident - no advertising see.

Another topic though. I just had a thought.

I think its pretty evident there will be Daleks in the season, so what if the Dalek in 'Dalek' which is set in 2012, is one from this season, maybe the one that escaped in season 2/3.

Oooooow

Eeep! you had me going there for a second until Mrs P assured me that Fragments is on BBC2 this coming Friday and Adrift was the one that was on Good Friday...Fragments was on BBC3 which I still consider to be non-terrestrial...though in these Freeview-ish digi-days I suppose it is terrestrial as it comes down your aerial :)

There will be Daleks and from what I've read there will also be Davros and I don't think it beyond the bounds of possibility that you could be right given the way RTD seems to have planned the show so far...and that Dalek had to come burning through the atmosphere from somewhere...though I got the impression (and it's a while since I last watched it) that it landed a good few years before Van Statten acquired it.
