You probably know the scene I am talking about before I even say it, but I was wondering something about where Giles finds Jenny. The music playing in the background: does anyone know what it was called and if I can find a translation of it? It sounded relevant to the scene (well, from what I can tell), and I have been curious about that ever since I saw it.
Also...loved the episode, probably the best in Season 2.
if you are talking about the scene where Giles finds Jenny's body at his apartment, the music is from teh opera "La Boheme" by Puccini
i can't be more specific than that i'm afraid, maybe you'll be able to find something though with that to go from? also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_boh%C3%A8me might help :)

Actually, you were a great help! The wiki link had a reference to Passion and the aria that was played. After that all I needed was a quick Google search for a translation.
Thanks again!
oooh can you post the translation? i'd be interested in that if you don't mind?

Sure. The first verse is quite appropriate to the scene.
Oh! lovely girl, oh sweet face
bathed in the soft moonlight.
I see you in a dream
I'd dream forever!
Ah! Love, you rule alone!
Already I taste in spirit
the heights of tenderness!
Love trembles at our kiss!
How sweet his praises
enter my heart...
Love, you alone rule!
No, please!
You're mine!
Your friends are waiting.
You send me away already?
I dare not say what I'd like...
Tell me.
If I came with you...?
What? Mimi!
It would be so fine to stay here.
Outside it's cold.
I'd be near you!
And when we come back?
Who knows?
Give me your arm, my dear...
Your servant, sir...
Tell me you love me!
I love you.
Beloved! My love! My love!
The line that really sticks out when you are watching the scene is "tu sol comandi, amore!" It is repeated especially as Jenny is taken away as the police arrive IIRC. It means "Love, you rule alone!"
AWWWWWWWWWWWW! Poor Giles....

Whoa, knowing the translation of the song makes the scene even more tragic and dramatic than it already was. Your heart just gets ripped out when the music builds to that powerful crescendo as Giles finds Jenny and you just get the shot of the bottle smashing on the floor as he drops it in shock. Poor, poor Giles.

Heart wrenching scene!
And the music makes it more poignant. Especially now knowing the translation. Very sad

I hate that scene. I hate it everytime I see it. It never gets easier. I really loved Jenny. Besides, she had really great hair.

My poor heart. I feel so sad for Giles. I've only ever seen that scene once because I somehow neglected to buy season 2. Oy. Anyway, the translation does make it that much more... umm, sob worthy.
Gosh, that was just so mean. And then he never really found love again. That's the saddest part, at least for a crazy Giles fan.

I know. I like season 2 a lot, too. What happened was that I was getting the DVDs via netflix. I think I was in season 3 at the time. Anyway, one day, when I was at Best Buy, I saw some Buffy seasons for sale. I asked my hubby which season our roommate owns. We didn't want two copies of the same season. That would be silly. We talked about it, and we thought she had season 2. Neither my hubby nor I are huge season 1 fans, so we decided to buy season 3. As a bonus, it would free up some space on the old netflix queue. We continued from there. So that is the story of how poor Palabra ended up without season 2, as my roommate really had season 1. Sad, sad day.

lol. Maybe I'll get it for Christmas. You never know. Or my b-day. That's exactly 1 month after Christmas. Two prime gift giving (and getting) opportunities.

sounds like a plan! definitely capitalise on it!
Agreed, Season 2 has some of the best episodes of Buffy right there. As for the translation, I'd never given much thought to the song but thank you for posting it. Its still one of the most heart breaking scenes of the series.

:( Like others have said, it makes the scene even more heartbreaking now knowing the translation.
Giles's expression gets to me every time...poor guy :( It's one of my favourite scenes in terms of acting though, ASH was fantastic.
