Has anyone seen Ice Princess, staring Michelle [And Heroes Hayden Penettiere]? I love that movie, to begin with I only watched it because of Michelle and Hayden, but it's really good :] It's probably more of a kids movie, I was just wildly curious.

i bought the DVD for my sister about a year ago and ended up watching it myself. it's an ok movie, more for a younger audience i think.

I bought it because I'm a complete dork for Meg Cabot and she wrote the original screenplay (not, unfortunately, the one that was finally used for shooting). It was decent. A bit unbelievable, especially where Michelle's character gives up Harvard (or Yale, I don't remember which) for skating.

I loved this movie actually... and i only went to see it cause Michelle was in it.... but it turned out to be really good. (I dunno i guess cause i'm a fan of figure skating) and i think its really believable to give up a college for something you love.

I mean theres some stars who give up college for acting or even for singing. I mean dont get me wrong its stupid. but they do it...

^^ That's exactly the same reason I saw it, lol. Plus Hayden :]

Yah, my Mum would kill me if when i get up to college age I don't go =P Even though she knows I aspire to be an actress.

I loved it. I thought it was a very cute movie. I wasn't sure I would like it before I watched it the first time as the only character I had ever seen Michelle play was Dawn on Buffy. It was great to see her play another role outside of Dawn. If any one knows of some other great movies that she stars in let me know.

Yes, but she loved and was good at physics as well, it wasn't like skating was all she had.

Not seen it, unfortunately.

College ain't all it's cracked up to be, y'know. If you've got something better to do than getting into debt for the rest of your days, might not be a bad idea.

Let's look at it this way. Say she becomes the next Michelle Kwan. She wins gold medals. She makes tons of money. She falls and breaks her leg/back/neck in such a way that she can never skate again. Now what?

BUT if she goes to college, becomes a world-famous physicist (which she probably would have, with her brain). It takes her a few years to pay off her student loans, sure, but then she's set for LIFE, not just a few years. Cause even skaters get old, too old to skate, but look at Stephen Hawking.

Just saying.

I guess that's a possibility, but being a bit negative, aren't we? =P

I just don't like it when people don't think. And I'm in college myself right now, and yes, I'm racking up some huge student loans (I'm going all the way--to a Doctorate), and YES, I'd much rather be writing, but we have to live in the really real world, and in the really real world, about as many people "make it" writing as do skating. It was a pretty movie and stuff, but I think it would have been more believable if she had either a) gone to school, learned everything she could about physics, and THEN applied it to skating; or b) been a complete dunce at anything else and just planning to go to college to appease her mom. Then opting out wouldn't have been as dumb.

But what can I say? I'm 27, not a teenager. I've had realism beaten into me.

Pretty much what I meant to say. It's not a good movie, quality wise. Bad/not good movies can still be entertaining, this one sure is imo.

Unfortunately, 'college' and 'realism' don't walk hand in hand. A lot of the time, these days, a college degree isn't worth the paper it's written on. Of course, it depends on what TYPE you do. But the number of people I know who've got themselves into absurd debt for Arts degrees and such forth, only to end up in retail/office jobs that they could have got for half the price, is just ridiculous.

Well, yeah. You do still have to have half a brain about what major you pick. I mean, what are you going to do with a Philosophy major? Wait tables or teach, that's what. But in the movie (which IS what this whole thread is about), Michelle's character was into Physics, which is a HUGE field, and people who are good at it (again I invoke Stephen Hawking) make TONS of money. So it wasn't like she was planning to major in Fashion or something.

(No offense to any Fashion or Philosophy majors out there; it's just an example.)

It's a cute movie and I loved it, I remember buying it purely because Michelle was in it (although I am a fan of figure skating) and ended up really enjoying it. Michelle is adorable and it's one of those films that I can just put on and it'll make me smile.

I've seen it, sweet movie, not bad...not on my favourites list though.

It's not like she was completely giving up the idea of college though...sure, not Harvard but like her mother would allow her to just quit academics altogether.

I didn't see it.

As a General Hospital fan, though, I've got to say: no one should ever be allowed to title something "Ice Princess" unless the story involves a huge, ugly diamond, an evil Greco-Russian royal family, and a giant weather machine!

I loved this movie. I thought I was going to class it too cheesy, but there were some great actresses in it (Joan Cusack, Michelle, Kim Cattral(sp?) and even if the film had turned out to be cheesy, which in my opinion it wasn't, the great acting talents more than made up for it. And 'The Jumping Shrimp' was great entertainment.
For the few of you who are debating the realism and 'how ridiculous' it is that she just dropped physics which she was good at to do figure skating- which she was also good at. Well, that was the whole point! So ew of us actually get to say 'you know what? Screw all this I'm gonna do what I wanna do and follow my dream'- unfortnuately we are so often stuck in the mind set of 'study.education.degree.work' which even if you're excellent at it may not be for you.
That was Casey's deal. Yes she was a genius at Physics, but it wasn't her calling. If she had gone to Harvard she wouldn't have been excited or thrilled, she would have been bored out of her skull and that's what she realized. That she only felt she was truly do something, that she was really alive and enjoying herself was when she was skating. Like she said to her Mom, "No, Mom, I'm giving up your dream. I'm going after mine". I love the film for that message- it gives you just that little bit of hope to follow your own dream. Whether the hope is fabricated or not, I really don't care. I just think it's a very uplifting message and a great movie.

I like this movie. I bought it Blockbuster when they had their previewed movies for sale, for like 5 bucks. I like watching it, just because she overcomes the odds at the end. It's just got a good message to it, and it's a heck of a lot better than some of the sleazy crap out their, even for younger viewers.

I caught the movie half way through the one time it was shown on the BBC here in the UK.. I was so impressed I went out and bought it! Glad I did.. it's a wonderful feelgood movie just right for rainy days or when I'm feeling down... nothing like Ms Trachtenburg to cheer me up!

I saw this a while back. Why? Like most people in this thread it was solely because of MT. I havenīt checked if itīs a Disneymovie, but it sure feels like one. Cute, predictable with some catchy music and "easy" to watch. The acting may be better than in other movies in the same style, but the concept is still the same. I wouldnīt consider it a "great" movie. But I wouldnīt mind watching it again, even though I donīt feel the need for it.

Nothing to do on a sunday afternoon? Why not watch it? And MT is of course adorable as always.

^ It is Disney. And the original screenplay (not the one they used, unfortunately), was written by Meg Cabot, who wrote the Princess Diaries books.
