Anya's living arrangements in the early days...

So obviously in season 7, Anya had her own place before she moved into the Summers' residence. Before then it was with Xander in the apartment and before then it's 95% safe to say she stayed with him in the basement.

But what about before then? Anya being the industrious person she is surely wouldn't have been living on the streets or what have you but do we actually know? I could maybe see her in a dingy hotel room like Faith's early days but where would she have had the money?

She was a Student when she makes her reappearance in the show, maybe she was pretending to be an Exchange student and living with a family, maybe she was in a hotel like Faith or maybe she had some money she'd taken from somewhere and was living the high life.

There was a point in season 5, she had her own place [we see it the ep when Riley is about to leave]. Before that, no idea.

it is clear that she has some sort of apartment of her own as she is shown with it at certain points, such as mogwaid mentioned, and in graduation day 1, she also mentions she has a car. i was never sure about it, but a possibility we could consider is that while she still had her powers, maybe she took vengeance on someone, they died or left, and she took over their house and car or something. there's some complication in that theory though. or maybe she just killed them without them deserving vengeance, but just for the house. once she got the job at the magic box, she probably would have been able to pay for it more and all. oh, or maybe she had some money from way way back which she had invested, and it grew over that long amount of time, so she can afford stuff. sorry that im just throwing out a bunch of theories, some of which are bad; im writing as im thinking :).

I always assumed that D'Hoffran, who really seemed to love her even though he cast her out, set her up with at least a place to live.

Well we do know she had a small apartment before she moved in with Xander, as we see it-as somebody said here- in Into the Woods, but before that I'm not so sure. I mean I assume she had somewhere to live (and we know she had a ca) but how she afforded it.....demon saving account maybe?

she mentioned that she had a car in season 3? But i thought in the episode 'Triangle' she was a hopeless driver when she had to drive Giles's car?

well, she says to Xander in graduation that her car is outside....hmm, writer slip-up perhaps? Or maybe Anya just wasn't concerned with whether she could drive or not and just that she got out of Sunnydale post hasty
