I re watched season five and wondered what was the point of Lorne's job at W&H? He was the head of the entertainment and PR department and as Roger Wyndham-Pryce once said to him, " I'm sure that's really helpful for the fight against evil" or something along those lines.
Don't get me wrong, I love Lorne But what was the point of him being at W&H when he eventually started to hate being there?

As far as I understand it, he was the talent agent for all these actors/musicians.
And didn't everyone hate being there after a few episodes?

......in addition to what blondie bear said, lorne didnt have anywhere to go! his karaoke bar got destroyed.....twice.
also, i dont think he was as unhappy as he seemed. he lived to entertain; and now he is exchanging cell numbers with the rich and famous. to further validate that, there was one episode that revolved around lorne liking his job so much that he was willing to be put under a spell where he couldnt sleep. he just wanted to entertain 24/7.

Very true...I would have liked him more involved instead of staying in the background. It changed him a little bit. I remember him punching Eve in the face after what happened to Fred...

Lornes Role was Head of Ent at a Law Firm.
The World(demon) will also have aspirations to be 'famous' as not all demons look otherworldly and W&H are well placed to make good deals.
Lorne began hating his job, but so did everyone else.
His 'point' at W&H was to help his friends whenever they needed him.
In fact, one of the reasons he was swo upset was because he didn't realize that Know and the Doctor(werewolf guy) were plotting against Angel - which suggests he kept his role as 'seer'.

If you actually had any idea how the legal system works yo'd realise that there are many various branched of law including, shock, horror, entertainment law! Angel obviously needed someone to run that and Lorne was obviously perfect for the job. As to if that was helpful to the fight against evil i thibk it did slightly. By being the head of PR etc, Lorne was able to keep an eye on more of the high risk clients without making anyone shspicious because it's part of his job!

An evil law firm like Wolfram & Hart has got to do some PR! Charity work here, charity work there. That's all Lorne.

I think that Lorne was integral to W&H - whilst Fred's and Wesley's roles were much more obvious, Lorne was in charge of keeping tabs on the famous. We saw with that senator that the rich and famous were also involved in "evil" (granted, a senator isn't QUITE like a movie star or a muscian or anything - unless it's the governator so something lol). He was possibly able to keep an eye on the celebrities, which is important because in the Angelverse, almost any kind of fame is the result of one contract or another, and by Lorne being in constant contact with them, he could keep tabs on them
