View Full Version : What does your user name stand for?
DarklyDreamingDrusilla
10-11-2007, 07:03 PM
I thought it would be fun to discuss why you chose your user name and the story behind it. I chose mine because one of my favorite characters is Drusilla and since she is crazy I added the DarklyDreaming part which is from the title of one of my favorite books Darkly Dreaming Dexter. Don't you just love alliterations.:lmao:
Senior Watcher
10-11-2007, 08:57 PM
well, I sort of feel like Giles sometimes. And since Giles was a nice warm watcher for buffy, i figured i could be a watcher too! i added "senior" in front cause im old. so there you go.
in case you were wondering how old i am, i turned 30 one month ago.
TabulaRasa
10-11-2007, 11:27 PM
I chose my username because Tabularasa is one of my very favorite episodes. All it took was Spike to scream when falling off the glass counter at the magic box.
It means Blank slate, or clean slate if you will.
Senior watcher you are far from old. I thought that Senior (senior partner/junior partner) was something from Angel, and watcher from Buffy. But glad I know I was wrong, lol.
Blondie Bear
10-12-2007, 09:12 AM
Mine should (hopefully) be pretty obvious. . . .
Spike is my favoritest character ever.
And, Senior Watcher, you are TOTALLY not old. I just turned 27 in August.
VisionGuy
10-12-2007, 09:54 AM
Cordelia is my favorite character and since she's referred to as VisionGirl, I switched it around to VisionGuy.
Mesektet Ra
10-12-2007, 10:52 AM
Mesektet was the Red Girl in the White Room [a general color theme] in Wolfram and Hart. I've had an abiding love for ancient Egypt since I could talk, hence the pickage. I added Ra to the end, mostly because Mesektet was a member of the Rahtet totem - she was the last, and the most evil [Mesektet can be translated into 'darkness' or 'the darkest hour', the last time I checked]. Ra is the ancient Egyptian sun god, and in real Egyptian mythology Mesektet was the name of the barge Ra rode through the underworld at night.

Cordelia is my favorite character and since she's referred to as VisionGirl, I switched it around to VisionGuy.
You just cut and pasted from the last thread about this didn't you!!!!
VisionGuy

You just cut and pasted from the last thread about this didn't you!!!!
No, that's just my automatic answer. Maybe I should make up an exciting story about how I thought of my name and post it from now on. LOL
white avenger
10-12-2007, 04:25 PM
White Avenger was an old D&D that I used all of once in a very bygone age who, appropriately enough, was a sworn demon fighter. Later, it was my classic 1963 P-1800 Volvo. It was also my user name at the original Official BTVS/Angel Forum (though it somehow got changed to Wwite Avenger there).
doppelgänger
10-12-2007, 10:57 PM
Doppelgangland is one of my absolute favorite episodes of BtVS, and doppelgänger is the german spelling of "doppelganger"
Tranquillity
10-13-2007, 12:00 AM
I can't even remember why i picked tranquillity - it's not buffy related at all, though i wish i had one that was. I started using it on some other discussion boards and was just trying to come up with something really quickly that nobody else had already. I am pretty tranquil person though so its OK. gottaluvagirlwithananvil comes from "Fool for Love" when giles shows buffy the diary of a watcher whose slayer made her own weapons, buffy replies "gotta love a girl with an anvil" and its always just stuck in my head for some reason.
Kryptonite
10-14-2007, 02:26 PM
Mines from Three Doors Down, not Superman (because X-men owns all over Superman)
freakydorky
10-26-2007, 12:51 PM

wiccianslayer
10-26-2007, 01:02 PM

It honestly doesn't stand for anything.
It's nonsensical, which is how I tend to live life. =]
partofyourworld
11-03-2007, 07:57 AM
Anyone seen The Little Mermaid?
My names from the song Part of your world from the little mermaid
i was gonna call myself cinders(Cinderella) ir tink(Tinkabell from Peter Pan) but neither seemed apropreate for a vampire slayer board.
In case your wondering, im not really young or immature..Its just one of my random obsessions
Rowan Hawthorn
11-03-2007, 09:22 PM
Mine comes from the rowan tree, or mountain ash, and the hawthorn. Both trees figure heavily in folklore.
I think I've answered this question so many times in the past... I can't come up with anything original I'm afraid. I chose my name because there's a certain little red monster that I love. I used to be nicknamed "elmo" by a few people at school... it kinda stuck.
JollyApe
11-10-2007, 08:10 AM
It's my name. Plus a Jolly, just because Jolly is such an good word.
Well, it's not as if my parents named me Ape, but my pronounce my initials and you have Ape. Gone by that name for the past 5-6 years now, so it's sorta stuck.
I love Eliza Dushku
11-10-2007, 09:24 AM
Mine comes from my love for Eliza Dushku. xD
~angelic slayer~
11-11-2007, 12:01 PM
Well it was a dark and stormy night....
Actually, the creation of angelic_slayer wasn't nearly that creative. Angel and Buffy have been my favourite couple since I started watching, and I wanted something that incorporated both of them (and both shows). So Angelic-- Angel, Slayer-- Buffy. Very unique isn't it? :D
Wasn't until later that I found out that there was another Angelic Slayer some years back, then the great shutdown took away my underscore, so here I am... :hmm:
FaithFan2005
11-11-2007, 12:06 PM
I joined the board in 2005 and I am a Faith fan,so that is how my nickname came together.
angeldarla
11-11-2007, 04:19 PM
I chose my username because i love angel and darla as a couple. So simple as this.
GATEGOD
11-11-2007, 08:19 PM
The t.v. show Stargate Sg-1 / Stargate Atlantis I love it!
Keanoite
11-14-2007, 12:14 PM
Mine has nothing to do with Buffy. I love football(Soccer) and my favourite player was Roy Keane. He was the greatest midfielder of his generation, a leader and passionate about the game. He always did what had to be done, no matter what it cost him (I suppose he is kinda like Buffy!!) and I really admire that and so Keanoite was born!!
palabravampiress
11-25-2007, 04:33 AM
Mine's the same internet handle I've used for ages.
In high school, I worked in a movie theater. I had this friend, an usher, who said "Word" all the time. It was his stock answer. It meant "hello," "goodbye," yes," "cool," and just about everything else. Another friend of mine took Spanish. We started replying "Palabra" to his "Word." Eventually, this became our greeting to one another: "Palabra chica!" The vampiress thing? I used to bite people. Don't ask. I was a silly teenage goth girl. And so, my internet handle was born. Also, I'm a writer, so I really like the connotations of word + vampire. I'm a word vampire. Got words? I drink 'em for breakfast!
jesterjay
11-25-2007, 06:38 AM
When I was in College my classmates thought I was a joker on air. So I thought it would be cool to be Joker, but we already had a Joker Time Slotted in, so someone called me Jester and it stuck.
Soon my time slot became the Jester Jay Show.
it's a nickname for Illyria i created for a fanfic i was writing about 3 years ago...ilLYRIa, get it? also, 'L' and 'Y' are the last two letters of my first name, and 'R' is the first letter of my middle name, so i guess it fits! lol
SpikedBuffy
11-26-2007, 06:05 PM
See if you can wrap your head around this :) (hehe)
I'm the biggest Spuffy fan! Buffy is my ultimate favorite character (The main reason I watched the show). I loved Spike.
Put that all together and what do you get?
SpikedBuffy
Bangelxx
01-01-2008, 03:39 PM
me? I chose my username because i love bangel (buffy/angel) and i added "xx" for i dunno, prettiness! LOL
Rebecca
01-01-2008, 03:50 PM
It's my name backwards, i got fed up thinking up usernames a long time ago so now I always use the same one which is very rare
The Chosen
01-01-2008, 09:54 PM
I chose "The Chosen" because Chosen is my favorite episode of the series. I remembered that the episode was called "The Chosen" on one website and it had a better feel than just "Chosen." (Wow, if I woulda stuck with just "Chosen" everyone would know me only as C! Lol!)
And then I think nerd4hire called me "TC" once and it kinda stuck. :D
- TC
My name has gone through many variations and I've explained its origin many many times now lol, basically I did Chemistry and got called Chemy a lot and decided to change it to Kemy because it looked better.
Cordelia Chase*
01-02-2008, 08:06 AM
HHMMMM.....Its obvious to see where my name comes from. Cordelia! DuH! lol
Only my favorite character on Angel. The * came in when the name Coredlia Chase was already taken. And Thus, CC* was born.((I think people call me CC* cause they dnt feel like typing my ful username out all the time. lol))
LittleMissLikesToFight
01-02-2008, 03:35 PM
mine is from the words of Cordelia about Buffy, and one of my favorite nicknames Buffy is given in the entire show.
ckg927
01-02-2008, 05:32 PM
The letters are my initials...and the numbers are my birthday.
Short and sweet.
Tru Mackney
01-02-2008, 05:43 PM
Ever since Tru Calling, Tru has been one of my favorite names, so that's where Tru comes from. Mackney is just a name I found and thought it sounded good with Tru!
Randy Giles
01-06-2008, 02:01 PM
Mine comes from Spike thinking his name was Randy Giles in "Tabula Rasa". :)
It was formerly Crushed Dead Boone, from Lost. But I wanted a Buffy-related name.
Jules
01-19-2008, 01:56 AM
Mines very unimaginative, it's my nickname from my real name :)
UlaGan
01-19-2008, 04:42 AM
:) I went by Ula Gan /oolah gahn/ as for it sounds clear, short enough to memorise, and not histrionic. Also, I have some sweet memories connected to it - it was my Character's name while I spent months of playing Space Rangers for some alien race.
Wicked
01-19-2008, 05:17 AM
I like the word. Thats it. It was a totally random choice when I had to change my original username.
Vicariously
01-19-2008, 10:34 AM
Vicariously comes from the word Vicarious (vi·car·i·ous)
–adjective
1. performed, exercised, received, or suffered in place of another: vicarious punishment.
2. taking the place of another person or thing; acting or serving as a substitute.
3. felt or enjoyed through imagined participation in the experience of others: a vicarious thrill.
4. Physiology. noting or pertaining to a situation in which one organ performs part of the functions normally performed by another.
^ thats what the dictionary defines my name to be....and of the 4 meanings 3 is how I feel about Buffy. As a hopeless Romantic married to a guy who quite frankly isn't, I am able to experience the idea of being romanced, "Vicariously" threw my fav television shows and movies...
sounds a little creepy I guess...but yeah thats how I got my name...shortened from vicariously thru you. (I geuss Buffy wasn't truly romanced either, but somehow her relationships were still romantic?...passion I guess...there was plenty of that... in that respect I am pretty much the same in my relationship. but whatever, hahaha.)
Aussie
01-24-2008, 07:05 PM
Its Australia Day tomorrow so I was feeling in a bit of a patriotic mood ( is that the right word to describe it?) australia day is the best day of the year so I started celebrating last week!
justanotherjen
01-24-2008, 07:51 PM
Mine's pretty easy. My name is Jen, I was born in the 70s...so I'm "just another jen". I'm proud to be in the great club of Jennifers, lol. (The most popular girl's name from 1968-1981 that has never happened before or since then)
definition of insane
01-24-2008, 08:22 PM
Because if you look up insane in the dictionary, there's a picture of me :p
Nah, one of the great thinkers said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result....and I have this habit of going through the motions...or I used to.
Aw heck. I'm nuts, let's go with my first explanation.
FaithyFivebyFive
01-24-2008, 08:30 PM
Angel referred to Faith as 'Faithy' once, I liked it and wanted just Faithy as my username... It was taken so I thought of something I could add to it, I think the next part of my username is obvious and self explanatory lol. I liked that some on here have written FFF for short. :)
The Ferg
05-15-2008, 08:53 PM
Why is your name, your name? (on BB)
The Ferg is a play on my last name, "Ferguson". Get it?
Aethra
05-15-2008, 09:53 PM
I was thumbing through my mythology book and happened across a bit about Aethra, mother of Theseus, King of some place who did a lot of heroic things I can't remember. But, I liked the name!
I just feel pathetic now, maybe I should refresh my memory on certain myths, haha.
white avenger
05-15-2008, 09:53 PM
The White Avenger started out as a D&D character that I never got a chance to use, then became the name of my white 1963 P-1800 Volvo, then finally the pseudonym/pen name that I have used on the internet. About a year ago, I discovered (was told by a friend, really) that there is another "White Avenger" who has a web site devoted to white supremacy and supports the ideas of the KKK, but that White Avenger AIN'T ME! (Just in case anyone might accidentally stumble upon his site.
Blondie Bear
05-15-2008, 10:07 PM
I should hope that mine is pretty glaringly obvious. At the same time, it's a bit of a misnomer because I am not blonde.
TabulaRasa
05-15-2008, 10:20 PM
Well, I think there is already a thread like this somewhere but I don't mind mentioning it again. :) Tabularasa...hmmm how do I explain how I came about that. Let me think...Oh yeah! duh, it's one of my favorite episodes. ;)
caitaintdead
05-15-2008, 11:23 PM
Well caitaintdead came about about 2 years ago when I stopped going to see bands so much and the 'scene' I was apart of started questioning where I had gone to. I got sick and tired of checking my myspace once every few weeks to see 20 messages saying 'where you been cait? everyone's starting to think you're dead!' (que sarcastic laughing on my part followed by beating my head against my desk). So to end all the messages I changed my myspace name to caitaintdead. It stuck.
The Kinslayer
05-16-2008, 12:11 AM
* I love Nightwish and it´s the name of one of their songs (even not close to being my absolute favourite).
* Having something with the word "slayer" in it seemed suitable concidering the board we´re attending.
* A Kinslayer is a person who kills his/hers own blood relatives, which to to me sounded a lot like vampires.

05-16-2008, 12:27 AM
There is a thread about this already here, What does your user name stand for? - Buffy-Boards (http://www.buffy-boards.com/showthread.php?t=34383), and it's not even close to 200 posts. So you might aswell continue discussing this topic over there! :)
Don't mean to be harsh on all the new people here, but please do a proper search of the boards before you start new threads. I found this other username-thread in like five seconds. It's easier for us users, not to mention for the Mods, if we keep the boards clean and not so spammy.
Dancing man
05-16-2008, 12:32 AM
My username was a old gaming name I would use for 1st person shooters because you have to 'Dance' To dodge bullets and live and I did it really well my friends called me Dancing man!
day walker
05-16-2008, 12:59 AM

The Kinslayer
05-16-2008, 01:08 AM
Ok, I don´t know if I´m supposed to do this but since this seem to be the more appropriate thread I´ll copy my answer from another thread.

* Having something with the word "slayer" in it seemed suitable concidering the board we´re attending.
* A Kinslayer is a person who kills his/hers own blood relatives, which to to me sounded a lot like vampires. And once again it seemed suitable.

It's what Spike says. 'Nuff said.
Rowan Hawthorn
05-18-2008, 01:50 PM
Mine comes from the rowan tree, or mountain ash, and the hawthorn. Both trees figure heavily in folklore.Social Suicide agrees: lol, I always thought that was you real name. ( sorry if that's insulting or anything, it's just, in English, everything can be a name somehow)
Heh. No worries. It actually could be a real name. I do, however, blame Anne McCaffrey for everyone's assuming I'm female because of it... :lmao:
Starlet
05-18-2008, 02:12 PM
I really like browsing dictionaries and looking for new interesting words (some people consider it as strange hobby). One day I found the world "starlet", it sounded nice and I liked it.
The same day I decided to register at BB so I thought that it could be my nickname.
The obvious: It's my real name. ^_^
Crazy Flakes
05-18-2008, 07:54 PM
Xander: Did everybody have their Crazy Flakes today?
I wanted a Buffy-related name, and I'd just seen Selfless. Easy enough, right?
randiann
05-19-2008, 08:25 AM
Randiann= Randi + Ann....
Ann is not my middle name though, just a name that people added onto my first one in junior high and its stuck ever since. Wierd slightly off topic story (oh come on it's me you know I'm gonna get a little off topic). My friends in Junior high (like 9-10 years ago) started off calling me Randi Ann. That sticks with me all through high school. Then I go to college halfway across America where NO ONE knows me, especially by that nick name, and somehow they pick it up there and start calling me Randi Ann as well. Wierd, huh?

Fake Shemp
07-07-2008, 01:00 PM
fake shemp.... any evil dead fans out there or 3 stooge fans.....
a fake shemp fills in another actors role anonymously (re-shoots of hands, feet, dead body parts lol) when the big actor is not available.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fake_Shemp
and its kind (a lot) how i feel, like a stand in... wow that went deeper than i thought.
Lindsey McDonald
07-07-2008, 01:13 PM
Hmm... Well my name has a deep significance behind it. But I'm not telling what it is. It certainly isn't just a Faith quote. No. Reeeeeaaaal deep. Seriously.....
I was just amazed that it wasn't already taken. Just goes to show that people don't try some of the more iconic ones because they assume they will be taken! Not that I'm complaining!
Buffanator
07-07-2008, 01:17 PM
Buffanator.
Me & my friends always add "a-nator" to the end of stuff. You know, like "John" becomes "the Johnanator" and someone who loves jazz music might become "The Jazzanator"... etc.
PLUS - extra bonus points for Xander calling Buffy "Buffanator" once. :D
The Kinslayer
07-07-2008, 01:23 PM
I was just amazed that it wasn't already taken. Just goes to show that people don't try some of the more iconic ones because they assume they will be taken! Not that I'm complaining!
I would also be surprised. But there is fivebyfive, fivebyfiveanyanka, FivebyFive_tc, fivexfive and Five. So you´re not totally alone.
chiigusa
07-07-2008, 01:24 PM
My name I created years ago for my internet alias back when I was obsessed with Japanese culture-related things. Battle Royale was my favorite novel, Chigusa was my favorite character and so was Chii from a Japanese anime called Chobits. So, I just merged the two together= chiigusa. I'm not as into that stuff anymore, but the name stuck. Plus, it's never taken!

Bluebird
07-07-2008, 04:46 PM
My name comes from the episode Time Bomb when Lorne is in the shades and has his little walkie-talkie, lol!
Lorne: (talking on walkie-talkie) I repeat, Bluebird got wise. Secret Demon's cover is blown. Over. Hel-hello?! Is this on?
littlewilly
07-07-2008, 06:41 PM
Mines comes from the fact that i am James Marsters
InsaneMystic
07-07-2008, 07:33 PM
No big story behind it... it's just what I am, insane and a mystic. *duh!* I use either this version or the latinized one (Mysticus Insanus) as my nicks pretty much whenever I use the net.
Besides, I once launched a contact ad (is that what you call it in English?) starting with "Insane mystic (31) looking for...". Didn't get a single answer to that one, btw.
Summers Blood
07-08-2008, 05:21 AM
Pretty much what it says.on the tin! lol.. My favourite line from Season 5 was "It's Summers Blood... it's just like mine." and when I joined this forum everyone seemed to have something relating to a characters name... I wanted to be different but still have the Summers connection... hence Summers Blood.
I really like my name and don't want to change it.

Ghostface is a rapper, in the Legenday Wu Tang Clan. Although he is the worst rapper in the core 9 members, i liked his name, so, this is my new name.
TheHeartist
07-08-2008, 04:45 PM
Bigging up the Wu Tang Clan!
My name comes from a magazine article about Ville Valo, frontman of the band HIM, one of my favourite bands. It referred to him as "The Heartist" I thought it sounded cool, so I nicked it.
hyperballadbrad
07-09-2008, 08:20 AM
Mine is the Bjork song Hyperballad, and my name :)
NightBird
07-09-2008, 08:31 AM
Well i'm covered in shame as my name has nothing to do with Buffy.
I started playing Xbox live when I got my 360 and couldn't think of a gamertag so I stole 'NightBirdFlying' from a Jimi Hendrix album.
People dropped the Flying and 'NightBird' stuck.
See it's not a mistaken night hawk reference, lol.
MozYa
07-11-2008, 09:02 PM
Mine is just an evolution of my nickname.
People called me Moz, as my second name used to be Morris.
And whenever any one says my name I reply Yah.
I people ended up calling it me Moz-Yah in a jokey way but it kinda stuck and when written I decided to drop the 'h'
Fake Shemp
07-11-2008, 09:08 PM
MozYa.... thats cute...
ooooh i forgot to mention the shemp significance to xander (if anyone hadnt gotten it yet)
when Xander runs into Warren's fist in the bronze in 'seeing red' Warren calls him Shemp
Gilesau
07-12-2008, 06:45 AM
I wanted Giles as my user name but someone already had it. So I chose Giles and the au means I'm from Australia.
mine is (obviously) from the BtVS and AtS characters Chantarelle, Lily and Anne (and Sister Sunshine  ) cause I think she's my favourite crossover character
it's also one of my favourite names and since she became a character i've only ever used Chantarelle or Lily for all my usernames and logins
Winifred Wyndham-Pryce
07-13-2008, 07:56 PM
My first one was SpikeLuva which is self explanitory.
This one though, I just recently bought the fifth season of Angel and fell in love with Wes and Fred so I came up with Winifred Wyndham-Pryce.
Melon
07-14-2008, 02:33 PM

Here in the UK they sell for £800,000 and one will cost you over $1,200,000 in the USA.
Cangel
09-10-2008, 10:10 AM
Well I wanted to name myself Bangel, but accidentally build a typo in and now I'm Cangel...
Naaaahhhh, obviously I'm kidding, who in a right state of mind would name themselves Bangel, if there's a much better ship called Cangel around? ;)

Katya Draven was my first D and D character like 8 years ago and it just stuck. Yes, I'm a dork, please keep the mocking to a dull roar. I don't play anymore, haven't for quite some time but I use it all the time for online places and such. Katya is just a neat name my friend came up with and Draven is from Eric Draven of The Crow movie.

Mine's from a really sweet part btwn Spike and Buffy after the Scoobies bring her back from the dead..
SPIKE: Willow's getting pretty strong, isn't she? Bringing you back. It's hard to get a good night's death around here. You can sit down. Got furniture. You should see the downstairs, too, it's quite posh. Uh ... I do remember what I said. The promise. To protect her. If I had done that ... even if I didn't make it ... you wouldn't have had to jump. But I want you to know I did save you. Not when it counted, of course, but ... after that. Every night after that. I'd see it all again ... do something different. Faster or more clever, you know? Dozens of times, lots of different ways ... Every night I save you.

mine's fairly unimaginative compared to the others now it seems!
Amanda is my first name anyway, and Willow/Alyson is my favourite character/actress on the show so I took Aly's last name and there you have it: Amanda Hannigan =)

I think mine is pretty obvious?
Relic

My reasons are old news for Merrick heads, but I'll revisit it for outside the dorm talk.
I love history and ever since I saw the Indy movies and The Young Indiana Jones Chronicals as an impressionable youth, I thought I wanted to be an anthrapologist. Relics are related to that so that's a reason. It sounds more like a person than artifact or antique...I guess I just like the word alot more.
I'm thirty-something, not all that old, certainly not Relic like, but when you chase around a soon to be 3 and almost 8 year old, you sure the hell feel brittle and aged. (Chasing around the Hot wife who's 3 1/2 years younger doesn't help either and her whole "Your in your 30's and I'm not." tease has ingrained itself on my psyche and makes me feel older than I am as well.)
Lastly, though it might sound mopey, its not meant to be....Sometimes I feel like a relic, like an old part of history many people just pass by. I have my era of importance (My family) and I'm cool with that. I've accepted that my personality may not be that interesting/endearing/ whatever, or that maybe my real nature isn't very evident or even known...like a myster relic, (was it a toothbrush a nail buffer, what)
The oddest part is I kind of like the anonymity, in a way, As Xander said "I like the quiet."
That might be why I'm a 'relic'!

I think mine is painfully obvious which makes me just want to change it. It is funny when you are first establishing these kinds of things because I did not really think about it. I just wanted something I could remember :)
