View Full Version : Best or Worst Season?

So people have different opinions, but almost everyone I've spoken to over the subject has said season two was the best or worst series. No one has said in between. Well, I guess they could just be trying to get me to stop annoying them, but still, I was wondering what everyones opinion was? I don't really have one currently, because I haven't seen season two in over a year, because it's currently the only season I don't own.

I'm watching S2 again right now, and it's definitely not the worst season. That honor, to me, falls to S4 (closely followed by 1). Thematically, I think S2 was one of the stronger seasons. The metaphors were tight and obvious without smacking you over the head, and the whole Angelus thing was just awesome. And then there was the Spike intro, which is my favorite part of everything ever. :)

Yea there is no way season 2 is the worst season in buffy.

Neither.

It's good. It's classical BtVS.

But it's not the best, that honour is reserved for season 3. Like I said season 2 was when BtVS really came into its own, it developed into something that would become really, really, really good. It was the fermenting season.

Personally season two is my favourite. The arc was spectacular, I don't think there was a better one. The introduction of Spike and Dru was ingenious. I have never had more invested in a season as I had in season 2 (uber Bangel shipper!!). All the characters evolve so much..Xander, Willow, Cordy..all come leaps and bounds...Buffy is NEVER the same again...I mean it gave us ANGELUS!! possibly the most enthralling villian the show ever offered...and even though it breaks my heart, Buffy killing Angel is amazing to watch...still ten years later I can't take my eyes off it when its on. It's the reason I began watching the show...season two is like going back intime for me...as far as I am concerned it was Buffy at it's best....

ok flame me!!

lol I can't say 2 is better for the sheer fact that I love The Zeppo and The Wish but then season 2 has Phases and I only have eyes for you... which are all in my top 10 favorite all time Buffy eps lol but season 3 did have graduation and more of Oz which I loved, but then again season 2 had Angelus... so yea ^.^ I'm torn too, don't even get me started on 4 with Wild at Heart, A New Moon Rising, The Harsh Light of Day, Something blue, Hush... omg now season 4 is up there with 2-3 for me now too :( lol

All i know is I loved BTVS, and I doubt I'll ever be able to choose just one season lol , after thinking about it lol

But then again I hate how in season 3 they killed the guy who was 'gay' but at first acted very very not gay. They showed him getting hit by the huge snakes tale and landing on the ground dead :(

Keanoite
11-16-2007, 07:36 PM
but do you really think that had anything to do with him being gay?...

Ok so maybe a snakes tail could be argued to look phallic like but really I think that is pushing it.

No i don't care that they killed the gay guy, i just liked his character from the other eps, INCLUDING THE WISH!!!! and i didn't want him to die

So they killed him and I was like oh hells no!!! lol that is one reasons Season 3 can't top season 2 /vice versa

So no one hates it? Neither do I, just I was having a discussion with some of my other friends who all seem to hate it. I'd say season 1 was the weakest out of all seven seasons.

I do think season 2 was one of the strongest seasons (though my personally favorite is undoubtably season 3)- it has just great arcs, character developments, stand-alone episodes everything. It was when Buffy first became a lot darker, but it also retained it's light and upbeat side. I just love it.
If I were to pick a worst season, which hello from someone so completely obsessed with the show is hard to do I'm sure you'll all agree hehe, I would say season 7. Why? Because of the Potentials. The majority of them annoyed the hell out of me. I was constantly 'oh get over yourself you whiny [insert abuse here]'. The only one I liked was Amanda, the one from SHS, because she didn't make a big deal out of it or complain about it she just did it. A true Slaygal. hehe. And then she got killed....damn.

Haha thats weird becuase I always saw season seven as getting as close to seasons 2&3 as Buffy had been in a long time...

Joyce Summers
11-17-2007, 01:18 PM
Hehe, weird. I do get what you mean in a way as to story arcs and characters and such, particularly the stand alone eps such as 'Him'. But it was just the Potentials that ruined it for me, I really couldn't like any of them except for Amanda and that's what made me mainly iffy about the season as regards to best or worst. Plus I hated Buffy's total rejection of Giles and then *everyone's* rejection of *her*. I mean I loved the season, don't get me wrong. But if I had to pick my least favorite, it would be seven

Keanoite
11-17-2007, 01:24 PM
For me that honour goes to season one but I still really enjoy the first season. I get what you mean about the potentials, Dear God how I wanted to slap kennedy anytime she opened her stupid mouth! but I think we were supposed to not really like them. And the whole lack of trust between the scoobies was something boiling over for 5 seasons and it finally came to a head in 7...i mean Buffy's speech in Selfless shows that there is alot between the scoobs that is neither forgiven nor forgotten.

Joyce Summers
11-17-2007, 01:33 PM
Oh tell me about it- I hated Kennedy to. She was so full of herself. She was like Faith...but you know, not likable. hehe. And I totally get what you're saying about things boiling over for five years. I'd never considered that before, but now that I think on that scene from Selfless- yeah, you're right. I mean Buffy never got over Xander's attitude to the whole Angel/Angelus thing where he was pretty much 'you just want to forget all about miss calendar's murder so you can get your boyfriend back'. It was great though where Willow finally find out what he told Buffy you know the whole 'kick his ass'. and in the background of the argument we hear Willow protesting 'I never said that...'

It's one of my favourite Buffy moments, I felt like I had waited forever for it to happen and when it did it was like..FINALLY!!! and I was relieved that Buffy stood up for herself too. I always felt she took so much sh!t from Xander and Willow and in seven she seemed to be like 'F**k this, I'm speaking my mind' which I loved!!

Season 2? Not the worst. Like a lot of you, I think it had strong foundations in character and theme. It also made great strides toward the season-length narrative arc structure that would define seasons 3 - 5.

Watching BtVS evolve was a lot like watching the evolution of the novel. Buffy season 1 is like like something out of Defoe or Fielding. The characters get up to all sorts of crazy adventures. They're stories, yeah. And they're bound together by character and chronology, yeah. But does that a novel make? Not quite. Our favorite castaway and our favorite scamp have entertaining and sometimes even enlightening adventures that occur in rapid succession, but those adventures lack depth. Chance, more than development, determines the obstacle that will be faced and overcome in the next installment. Buffy season 1 is the same way. It lays the groundwork for meaning, depth, and continuity. It approaches it at a crawl.

Season 2, well, we're getting closer. Season 2 of Buffy is like picking up a novel by Richardson. The disparate elements to which we were introduced in season 1 finally coalesce into an undeniable whole. There's some fat that could be trimmed, yeah, but there's also a recognizable attempt at a coherent beginning, middle, and end. Obstacles begin to be generated from within, not just by chance. Characters mature and develop within their stock roles and a very puritan, Richardsonian worldview. Buffy is the innocent, virtuous and besmirched "Clarissa," whose innate goodness trumps her enemy's evil. Likewise, Angel is the charming trickster, "Lovelace," whose true monstrosity is revealed and must be defeated in a duel. Fortunately, Buffy doesn't die. Just as in Richardson, theme begins to bind things together, albeit in a hit-you-over-the-head sort of way. It's heavy and a little preachy. Good and bad, right and wrong, are clearly delineated. Still, the seeds of something deeper -- something grayer and more complex and true to the human experience -- are there.

Just as the 18th century provided the often-shaky foundation for the form and structure of the novel, seasons 1 and 2 of Buffy helped the show to find its footing and to mature. Beginning with Jane Austen, the 19th century is generally regarded as the "classic" period for the novel. Similarly, the first two seasons propel Buffy into its classic period and then into its gothic period and then into season 7, which, umm, I don't get at all. :-)

Season 2 is my favorite season. What's not to like, I even enjoy the cheasy episodes like Go Fish and Bad Eggs, hee.

Worst season would be seven. So many plot holes, and rushy storylines, too much characters we don't care about and not enough Scoobies. What's to love?

Season 2 is not the worst not the best season IMO but it does have the best villains--Spike and my girl Drusilla :) Season 7 for me is one of the worst seasons overall because of the additional characters yet some of my fave moments are in that season too....

I'm going to ruin the whole theme of this thread ... Because I hate Season 2. Not the worst, certainly. Four was definitely the worst. But, I don't know. Season 2 was not my thing. Too many Angel/Buffy dramatics. "I love you, but I can't" pouty pout pout. Don't get me wrong -- Many an episode in Season 2 make me bawl my eyes out ... But, its too mopey for me.

Great arc, I agree ... But, because I really don't care for the whole Buffy and Angel dynamic myself, it was obvious I wasn't going to like it that much.

STILL THOUGH.
Spike and Drusilla in this season??
Amazing.

Eh, I'm in between. Not the worst season, at all. That goes to Season 1 and 7, for me. Unlike you guys, I thought Season 4 was one of the top 3 seasons :lmao:

Season 2 was really good, imo. I loved the whole arc. The Spike/Dru thing, the way Kendra worked into it all, and Angelus kicked ass. A lot of the arc episodes were just fantastic ("Innocence", "Passion", "Becoming") and there were some stellar fillers ("School Hard", "Lie To Me", "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered"). But, most of the fillers in the first half were very bad and took away from the season ("Some Assembly Required", "Inca Mummy Girl", "Reptile Boy", "The Dark Age", "Ted", "Bad Eggs"). So, I liked it, but the fillers took it away from being in my top 3.

I loved season 6, but season 3 is right there with it, I might have liked season 2 more then season 3 because of Angelus, but season 3 had such great episode, such as The Wish and The Zeppo, plus brought in Faith's character. So i enjoyed season 3 more then season 2 only for those reasons other wise they were both great seasons.

Season 2 is good, and it is definitely not the worst, but it contains some sub-par episodes like Inca Mummy Girl and Killed by Death. The best seasons are 3 and 5, which have the strongest arcs and superior writing. I like season 2 and the finale is probably the most moving of the series, but as a whole it just is not as good as some of the other seasons.

Season Two was the ultimate season in Buffy. This is where the series took off. First, you had Buffy return after her battle with the Master and she was trying as a teenager dealing with the fact that she did die. Her relationship with Angel was heating up and reached its climax. The arrival of Spike and Drusilla was like watching those old biker movies when the bad boys ride into a biker bar and tear up the place. That's exactly what Spike did when he came into the vampire den and took over. Spike killing the Chosen One was such a nice if not barbaric touch but it let us know Spike was a vicious S.O.B.

Then there was Angel. OMGoodness was this such a great season for him. Angel knows the curse but instead gives into temptation and sleeps with Buffy. Then he turns evil and just like that *poof* he's got Buffy crying. David Boreanaz's true acting skills came out here. His slick evil turn after playing the first season as the loner good guy was brilliant. Then there was "Passion", the episode that defined the whole season 2 arc. I loved Angel's poetic narration of the whole episode and the creepiness of him stalking Buffy and Willow after they found out Jenny was killed. This one show had it all and I still get chills watching it.

Season two offered so many other great episodes and delved into the psychology of good vs evil and the consequences of falling into your lust. Just a great season. This was definetely the best season of all.

Season two is good. However, far from the best.

A lot of fans say it's the "definitive" season of Buffy and is the best example of what the show is, but how is that? Each season pretty much changes the show, has a different tone and theme, etc. It was different every single year.

Season two has a ton of subpar episodes, however it develops the characters nicely and sets up the rest of the series, and has a pretty good arc, but it is not nearly as good or enjoyable for me as seasons 3, 6, and 7, which are in my opinion the strongest seasons of the series.

I wouldn't say it was the "definitive" season but it was the season that the show got itself grounded. It also was the season where we got to see the writing of Joss Whedon and the actors blossom. Season 2 set up the series plots for Angel's show and set up the character developments for Willow, Xander, and Cordelia as well as getting Buffy to where she had to accept her responsibilities as the slayer. That's why it's the best season to me anyways.

Good thread. It's not one of my favorites, I'll admit that. If only because when I first saw it, I knew Angel would get his soul back (because I watched Angel first) but it just seemed to drag ON and ON and ON. To the point where I was sitting there pondering who it was that Spike didn't have a soul and I liked him just as much as when he DID have one on Angel.

And, I was also annoyed with Buffy's constant whining about it. I wanted to pick her up and SLAP her across the face and say, "UH....HELLO! We could sit and cry or we could spend all our free time looking up various ways to get his soul back!"
I'm constantly befuddled as to why Angel had to break in and leave messages before they thought to find a spell to undo his invitation...and why, once they found one, no one but Jenny thought to find a way to get his soul back. Perhaps a BETTER way with no loop hole!

If someone I loved suddenly turned evil, I'd be moving heaven and earth to find a way to make them better. And, oddly, Jenny was the only one it seemed to occur to.

So, it's really not about the quality of the season as much as my own, "Get Up And DO SOMETHING" complex.

Finished off the series last night, in order.
It was my second viewing.
It's weird what that does to what you thought you thought about characters and stories, etc, y'know?

It was S:6 that got me thinking "wow, I think I want to rewatch this... actually, I think I may want to own it!" Thank gawd for S:6 cause I liked the second run-through even more, appreciated it even more.

So yeah, 6 holds the top spot as my fav season. It's harsh and messy and difficult and so, so, so emotional. It ain't pretty at all, and I love it.

My 'rate your fav' order would be:

6
3
2
7
1
4
5

S:3 is second due to the whole Faith deal. I liked S:3 the first time and I really liked it the second time. Also the direction Buffy/Angel started~went in. It's heartbreaking, Angel leaving at the end like that, but it wouldn't have been the same if he stayed.

S:4 had some of the best episodes of the serious in it, but the arc/big bad of The Initiative and Adam was really just blah for me, that's why it's low on the list. On first watching I didn't not like Riley, but I didn't like him either - he improved on viewing two. Enough that the falling apart of their relationship in 5 actually made me ache for both of them this time. I just saw him/it differently. I didn't want him to stay, he's not my fav. Buffy Boy, he's my 3rd fav, I think, it was just so painful and sad, how it got to that point.

With S:5 I found that Dawn irritated me even more the second time. I was hoping she'd end up like Riley, it was not to be so. Honestly, she bugged me bad enough that it was actually hard to watch her sometimes. I'd find myself rolling my eyes at the tv. It's always been curious to me how 5 is such a popular season, it was my least fav. on view one, and still holds that spot. Thank you Whedonverse for not leaving Buffy dead and ending the series there.

I was tempted to rate 7 before 2 but it's the course of S:2 that makes S:7 so endearing to me, mostly, the Buffy/Spike relationship. It's hard to love what it became before loving how it all started. I know the Spuffy love is a serious, heavy debate and I've always been on the Pro-side of it, and being that it was a rainy weekend, I finished the series off with a final 5 episode marathon last night and honestly, for me, the interaction between Buffy&Spike in those last 3-4 episodes solidifies it... that shiznit ain't no false proclamation at the end there. It wasn't Angel love, I don't even think it was romantic/relationship love, but she did love him. Her telling Angel that Spike was in her heart... it would have been so easy for her to shrug off Spike and say he was a mistake in that moment, and she didn't.

So, yeah, uh... my favorite season would be 6, and my least favorite would be 5.

and ps: I still just LOVE Giles. I watched the commentary for Seeing Red and Joss mentions something about he and the writers not realizing how much Tony Head brought to the show until he, well, came back. I have to agree. :)

This is the season that introduced Spike and Drusilla. This is the season in which we discovered that two Slayers can exist at the same time. This is the season in which Angelus was unleashed. And yet . . .

And yet, I found it slightly disappointing. One, it didn't seem like a season with one strong storyline. It seemed divided. One half devoted to Spike and Drusilla and the other half, to Angelus. And the odd thing is that Spike and Drusilla were not really responsible for the emergence of Angelus. Buffy was.

I also found the acutal emergence of Angelus to be disappointing. It seemed more anti-climatic, instead of dramatic. I never understood why Angelus didn't kill Buffy the moment he had emerged? Instead, he left her on that bed and went to see Spike and Drusilla. Like . . . huh?

Also, I thought that the first half of "Becoming" was very sloppy. I never understood why Xander didn't tell the cops that Buffy was not responsible for Kendra's death, after he had regained consciousness. And what was Kendra doing in Sunnydale in the first place?

Season 2 had some damn good episodes. But overall, I think it was overrated.

Buffy and the scoobies were at their best. then theres Spike and Dru. and the best single storyline on all of buffy or angel was Angel turning into angelus. and loads of legendary episodes.

It's definitely one of the best ones, and I'm not sure though If this one or season 3 is my fav season but I really like this one because a lot of things happend and exiting characters enters (like spike n dru) Buffy and angel get's serious, though it has a bad ending it's really strong and... well the conclusion from this back and forth game I'd have to say that this is my fav season. season 2 ROCKS!

It's one of the best, but S3 and 5 take precedence for me

5 and 3 are definetly more consistant, but 2 had Angelus-Buffy arc, and that was the Best arc ever in the Buffyverse

love season 2 for the whole Buffy-Angel saga but it ranks as my 3rd fav season im afraid.

Season 3 comes second, followed by my fav season 5 :)

Season 2 definately is one of the best, if not the best! So many new plotlines... Spike, Dru, Oz, Angel... all at once... So much going on, maybe that's why some people don't like it as much... Too much going on with the plot lines?

i have to agree, i think season 2 is one of the best seasons. the writing is amazing. one of my favorite past times is to get non-viewers hooked on buffy, and there are 2 episodes that work everytime no matter the circumstances, passion and becoming. while season 2 is not my personal fave, it is definitely up there.

Everyone here seems to like season 2 very much. Actually i don't think it's the best or one of the best. But it's not the worst. I liked it but there's no way it's better than s. 05 or 06. But it's just my opinion.. :)

Personally, I don't really like season 3. But season 2 is just pure Buffy. It's simply the "Buffiest" season of all. And along with season 5 - the best, in my opinion.

It's definitely one of the best seasons in my opinion.

I watch season 2, and I'm a kid again. The Angel/Buffy relationship is endearing and heartbreaking...the Spike/Drusilla introduction is great...to me, this is where the show grounds itself and becomes more than just a show. Watching it today brings me back to my childhood of Buffylove. S2 will always be one of my favorites.

I'm currently rewatching season 2 now, and I think I'm finally starting to cement it as my favorite. Every season had great episodes, but I think the overall arcs and character development in Season 2 are the best.

- Love how Buffy and Angel's love grew in the first part of the season. They're so funny when they're fumbling words or arguing... and Willow getting involved, "And you! You're going to live forever! You don't have time for coffee?" It was so childlike in some ways, but that's what made it good.

- Spike and Dru in the beginning were great... season 2 is when it started.

- You get a lot more Cordelia action and she's just great doing comedy. The scene in the basement of the frat house (Reptile Boy) after the group save her and Buffy (and the other girl), she just goes through all the emotions: Thanking Buffy (but hugging Angel), then crying, then telling that guy that he was going to jail for 15,000 years... she's so funny there.

- Then the whole build up of Buffy and Angel really climaxes at the end... it was really this season when I fell for Buffy because, let face it, she gets stomped on by life over and over. She sucks it up and fights on and that's what makes her such a great character.

i'm currently rewatching season two also, and everytime i watch , i'm astounded by how good it is! Everything about it, i love. Spike and Drusilla, Buffy and Angel, xander and cordelia, willow and oz all of their arcs are amazing and enchanting to watch and jenny's murder and giles' discovery of her is one of the most disturbing scenes i've ever scene on television. There's nothing that i dislike about this season (except reptile boy!). Truly magnificent T.V. and what's more, this isn't even my favourite season of BtVS! (That honour goes to series' 3/5!)

There's nothing that i dislike about this season (except reptile boy!).

You know, I didn't care for reptile boy, myself, until I watched it again last week. There's a lot of great, entertaining things happening in that episode:

- Angel and Buffy are still trying to find their way... the whole conversation in the beginning in the graveyard is funny with Buffy trying to ask Angel out for coffee.

- Cordelia still wasn't really part of the group at this stage, so her interaction with Buffy was great. As I mentioned in my post above, she has a scene in the basement at the end of this episode that is just hilarious.

- Best scene in the episode is when Giles, Angel, and Willow find out that the fraternity is doing something to the girls. She can't hold it any longer and tells them Buffy is at the party. She so cute here and yet goes onto the offensive:

Giles: She lied to me?
Willow: Well...
Angel: Did... she have a date?
Willow: Well...
[Angel huffs]
Willow: Well, why do you think she went to that party? Because you gave her the brush-off.
Willow: <to Giles> And you never let her do anything except work and patrol. And I know she's the Chosen One, but you're killing her with the pressure. I mean, she's sixteen going on forty.
Willow: And you! <to Angel> I mean, you're gonna live forever. You don't have time for a cup of coffee?
Willow: <calmer> Okay, I don't feel better now, and we've gotta help Buffy.

oh yeah, without a doubt reptile boy has it's moments (xander in a bra anyone?:P) just like every episode of buffy, but by comparison to the rest of the series i felt it was a little bit tame and predictable. Plus the whole story felt more akin to those of series 1 than 2 for me. Still...gotta llove Cordelia.

I didn't like that moment with Xander at all! Even though he's not my top fave char, seeing him harassed and humiliated like that hit home painfully for me. :(

S2 will always be my favorite season of Buffy.

Spike and Dru come into the picture. Buffy and Angel start their relationship, but sadly doesn't work out. Plus, Angelus! My fave villian of all time. The season finale almost made me cry.

In my opinion, S4 is the worst.

I guess season 6 is my favourite, Worst is a far to harsh word to use. But even though I like season 1 itīs not to hard to see that it is actually the first and that they had some learning to do. But itīs not like it was bad. Wouldnīt continued watching if it was.

edit: I kind of agree but itīs still a season on itīs own. The first season of the West wing is amazing in my eyes. Should I judge that as just a intro too just because itīs the first season? Many shows peak (very) early, Buffy did not. Which I know is gonna make some people unpleased since they see s. 2 as the best. To me it has a great arc and some wonderful epsidodes but as a whole far from the best.

I could say that season 2 is my favorite and the best season.

It have a tendency to change to whatever season you watch last though...
But somehow I often comes back to season 2 as the best.

The finale of season 2 is amazing and it alone makes we want to say that it's the best season.

Season 7 is the best in so far as I am concerned. I liked the season long story arc. I miss those Joss arcs. So much crap on TV is archless. I doan want throw away episodes. Tune in this week and you see the same crap you saw last week but with different faes. Oh, how enjoyable is that.

Definitely one of the best. Season 2 is the height of the B/A relationship and what propels the show forward. They really get into the characters' lives and emotions more in season 2, and the episodes start to get more continuous (compared to season 1). Angelus is my favourite villain, just because he's unique and very personal to Buffy. The way they did "Passion" just seems so artistic and very well done, love the Angel narrations and scene at the end. Too bad Jenny had to die so soon though, I would've loved to see her become part of the regular gang for the entire show as Giles' love interest, like how Tara and Anya became part of the regulars.

Season two really brought the show up. It was awsome. One of the best seasons. My worst season is season 4. Except for some great episodes(Hush, something blue, and some more) it was horrible. I think it's becxause of the whole Adam, and the initiative thing. I hated it.

season two is far and away my favorite season angelus is the best fictional villian ever. season four was misunderstood tho. i didn't like it when it originally aired but when i bought the season i realized (with the help of joss' commentary) that while the other seasons were like novels with a overall story and little side stories and a central theme season four was like a poem with great stand alone eps the whole adam/initiative thing was a little week but take the eps by themselves like hush, fear itself, pangs, something blue, a new man, this year's girl, primeval, and restless by themselves each of these eps are either hilarious deep or works of art. it was a season poems. i like it.

sorry i know this is the season 2 thread

I don't think it's the best or worst but is probably more towards the top end of the scale than the bottom.
I liked specific episodes though there were a couple of duds as well and the villains were definately a great mixture of humour/fear etc. Though I'm probably the only person out of all my friends who finds Spike the most annoying character in the show - I actually LIKE him this season as he just gets so boring and cliched in the later years.

Too Bangel for me, but there are some great episodes.

The arc Dru-Spike-Angelus was the BEST part of the Season. For me the Season starts on "Innocence" *_*. Except for "Go Fish", of course lol

Okay so far this is the easiest question for me to weigh in on. Due to personal experiences season two will forever be my favorite season. I love every episode dearly except for "Bad Eggs". Otherwise they are brilliant. I remember crying my eyes out at the season finale and being faced with an entire summer not having any idea what would happen. Would we ever see Angel again? Is Buffy going to find a way to overcome this enormous hurdle? Oh man just thinking about it now gets me all worked up. I also totally love Ms. Calender and was so sad that she fell victim to Angel although that particular episode was such a killer for me with her figuring out the curse. I was like nooooooooooooooo, Angelus you are evil and then OMG Willow find the spell!!! It was crazy and yeah, so, loved it :)

well this season has a really big NO for me. I think it has a lot of bad episodes like Inca mummy girl, some assembly required, go fish, bad eggs, etc.. I LOVED spike/dru/angelus it was brilliant (and there were some amazing episodes! :D) but the truth is.. it had a lot of boring episodes! (and for me inca mummy girl is the worst episode EVER!). That's why i love/hate this season.

I've just finished watching season 2 of Buffy and I think its one of the best seasons they did. I love season 1 but man was it corny and season 2 was still corny but you loved it and the storylines were a lot stronger and so were the fight scenes. To me it really made the show what it has become and still is even though its over. I think Angel becoming Angelus is the big highlight especially for a season ending and Buffy doing a runner.

Most people always talk about that first before anything else when it comes to Buffy and it had one of the saddest deaths ever with Miss Calendar. Every time I watch the moment where Giles tells Willow down the phone and you just see her crumble it gets me every time. Its made even more heart wrenching with what Angel/Angelus talking about passion and love at the same time. Pure genius in my opinion and you have the funny episodes like Reptile Boy with Cordy and Buffy going to a fraternity house to party only to get chained up. So many comedic and dramatic stories and roles played out season 2 is definitely a strong contender in the best season of Buffy.

How about...Season 1 as the best, because the series started then, and Season 7 as the worst, because it ended then (at least as far as we knew at the time)

Alternately:

Season 6 as the best, because Buffy finally came to terms with her life, her duties, as the Slayer, and her family, and began to see that she actually could and, more importantly wanted to, find a balance in all of it. She didn't have to be JUST the Slayer, JUST the big sister/parental figure, or JUST the harried bread winner. She didn't have to let a single aspect of her life dominate all of the rest.

Season 4 as the worst, because Buffy was completely lost in a new environment, and having to face all of the real problems of life for the first time, and, frankly, in my opinion, most of those issues were either glossed over or were portrayed badly.

season 2 isn't my absolute favourite, but it's definitely one of the best. it's an excellent season and i think i can say i can watch every single episode in it multiple times (and i have haha) without tiring of them. i think that seasons 6 and 7 are my favourite, with 2 being in second or third place.

Relic

It has some of my favorite episodes, If Dead mans Party and Zeppo would have happened in it then I'd say yes, hands down, but a pesky season separates those two from the rest of the excellent season two roster.

I liked the ending where everything was not wrapped up pretty like season one, three, and four even though the Big Bad was no more.

Season Five was the only other one to have a nail-biter ending and left me to wonder "What happens next?"

I haven't saw season 6 or 7 finales yet, so I can't really quantify where they fit in.

Angelus as a big bad was probably one of my more favorites evil doers. Season two also brought us Spike, Dru, Oz and Snyder. Alot of character development for the scoobies especially Giles...speaking of which...between Jenny biting it and Kendra also kicking the bucket I felt a real sense of worry/dread for the scoobies, especially Willow (That fish necklace...wierd.)

The show really seemed to get its wheels moving that season.

I like different seasons for different reasons but Season two is probably my favorite with four a somewhat close second, at least for now.

I adore season 2...but a lot of that is based on nostalgia and remembering seeing it for the first time on TV and being so gripped...I love it...even Bad Eggs, Ted, Go Fish and the other episodes people routinely slam...though my opinion would probably be different if I'd only discovered the series recently on DVD. I do think season 2 had some of the best episodes of the entire series, and the Buffy/Angelus arc is probably the arc the show is most known for. Brilliant execution and an amazing finale. I wouldn't say season 2 is necessarily my FAVORITE season, but it's DEFINITELY not the worst. Anyone who would say season 2 is of lesser quality than seasons 1 or 7 need to sober up, in my opinion...

11-15-2008, 06:15 PM
best for me would be season two simply because the writing and character development was so strong, you had angelus, spike and dru, we hate cordelia club lol, death of jenny calendar and the killing of angel to finish up a fantastic season, season 7 is the weakest for me
