I thought it was okay. I was actually kind of disappointed in the whole Angelus thing for Season 4. After Season 2 of Buffy's portrayal of Angelus it just wasn't the same. I know it could be argued that since Angelus' focus on Angel was different than tormenting Angel's girlfriend Buffy but I just don't think they captured the same spirit of Angelus as Buffy did. I still thought it was good though and seeing Faith coming back to hunt Angelus down was awesome. I always wondered when they would bring her back.

It reminded me a whole lot of the "dark quickening" episode of the old Highlander series where Duncan took the head and spirit of someone so evil that it affected his personality. I enjoyed the fight scene in Highlander more though, but I've always preferred good swordsmanship to street fighting.

I have to say I was slightly disappionted too. I felt we had been waiting for this head to head for years and I just thought more sould have been hanging on it. It was ok but it could have been GREAT.

What would have made it better? I thought it was pretty good. If Angel staked Angelus? Couldn't happen I don't think. What could have made it better? I haven't seen it in a month so I could be a bit off but It was cool.

I don't know about swords appearing out of nowhere but yea, they could have amped it up a bit more.

Well in fairness, everything else was just appearing out of nothing so it could have worked and I thought the verbal sparring could have been better

Two personalities of the same person slugging it out in an alley and you wanta know where the swords would have come from? Have you ever heard of a thing called the "willing suspension of disbelief?" And for that matter, it wouldn't have had to necessarily been swords. Spike and Angel used pieces of rebar when they were fighting over the Cup of Eternal Torment, and Angel and the Brothers used sections of an iron fence when they were fighting that Aztec demon.
As far as that goes, weapons weren't the point anyhow. There just wasn't enough...maybe what I'm looking for is, like the immortal Bruce Lee said..."emotional content, NOT ANGER!" This is a fight that had been building up for the better part of two centuries, and it looked like any other Buffy/Angel brawl.
Look at the fight between Buffy and Spike when he had the Gem of Amara, or for that matter, their fight in "School Hard." Bangel and Spuffy aside for the moment, those fights and just about every other fight Sarah and James had, had style and class, probably the best in the whole series. I don't know if they were trying to portray David as having a different fighting style or if the stunt choreographer was out with the flu when Angel fought Angelus, but the fire just wasn't there.

I'm gonna go with the flu thing cuz the sarah/david fight in becoming was fantastic but this fight really lacked that umph it is calling out to have...I mean it was Angel/Angelus...we had been waiting for it for so long and it was a total anti-climax

That's probably because they're both David, putting him on the screen twice would've been difficult, time consuming and expensive already.

I don't know if I buy that as a vaild reason, if it had been set up well enough he could have pulled it off.

Totally agree. But like one up-side that is with the comics, there was just some things they couldn't do with the shows, effects wise.

It can be done, takes a long ass time but that kinda fight can definitely be done.

Hmm... I guess scenes in The Matrix is proof of that. :)

Exactly, the Angel vs. Angelus Battle Royal turned out more like the 'manly' fight from Bridget Jones than the showdown to end all showdowns

I kind of agree. It's not a very memorable fight.
For me, the most memorable fight from Angel was the one in which Angel and Spike throw down for real. THAT had emotional content. That had great choreography. It had excellent dialogue and lighting. It was just perfect. It was really fun to watch.
My favorite fight scene in Buffy was... umm... okay, it's actually really hard to choose. lol. I think it might have been when Willow fought Buffy as if she were a slayer. That was wicked cool! The Buffy/Angelus fight comes as a close second, though. I just didn't like the cheesy magic portal effect in the end.
The Angel/Angelus fight really doesn't compare.

Angel and Angelus fought? It must not have been memorable. :p
My favorite Angel fights are the one where AI first fight The Beast and the Angel VS Spike showdown.

I can't totally agree with that. If I remember correctly, "Highlander" had a considerably smaller budget than "Buffy," and as I said before, the Evil Duncan vs Good Duncan fight was just about perfect. The stunt man playing opposite Adrian Paul matched his movements perfectly, and it was impossible to tell the two men apart. f course, to give the cast of "Buffy" their due, choreographing a really impressive sword fight isn't something that they do every day.

Admittedly... The fact that it is very visibly clear that stunt doubles are being used in that Buffy/Angel showdown, spoils it for me... But I love the Buffy/Angel fight that takes place at the mall, which ends with Buffy kicking Angelus in his... Manly area.
I guess the writers weren't building up to the eventual Angel/Angelus showdown the same way we were.

My thoughts exactly. These two fights were my favorites. They had incredible passion and like everyone else has already said the Angel/Angelus fight didn't. In fact I can't remember the details, but ask me about the Buffy/Faith or Buffy/Angel fight and I can relay both of them without having to re-watch the episode.

I do really like the whole 'catching the sword with her palm' thing. :)
And the tension in the B/F fight in Graduation... Knowing it was pretty much to the death
