This thread is dedicated to Xander and Buffy's friendship, which I liked the best in the show. They argue, they fight, but when things get serious they put that behind and be there for each other. I don't mind shippie discussions, though. :)

Inca Mummy Girl:
Buffy: I remember how I felt when I heard the prophecy that I was gonna
die. I wasn't exactly obsessed with doing the right thing.
Xander: Yeah, but you did. You gave up your life.
Buffy: I had you to bring me back.
They smile at each other.
Phases:
Buffy: (to herself) Angel. (gets to her knees)
Xander: (leans down to her) Are you okay?
Buffy: (takes his hand) This isn't happening. (pulls herself up and
hugs Xander) He's gonna keep coming after me.
Xander: (hugs back gently) Don't let him get to you. He's not the same
guy you knew.
She pulls back a bit and looks up at him. He looks back kindly.
Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered
Buffy: I remember coming on to you, I remember begging you to
undress me... And then a sudden need for cheese. I also remember that
you didn't.
Xander: Need cheese?
Buffy: Undress me. It meant a lot to me what you said.
Xander: C'mon, Buffy, I couldn't take advantage of you like that. Okay,
for a minute, it was touch and go there...
Buffy: You came through. There might just be hope for you yet.
Amends:
Xander: (abashed) Look, I'm aware I haven't been the mostest best
friend to you when it comes to the whole Angel thing, and, um, I don't
know, maybe I finally got the Chanukah spirit.
Graduation Part 1:
Xander: I don't mean to play devil's advocate here, but are you sure you're up to this?
Buffy: It's time.
Xander: We're talking to the death.
Buffy: I can't play kid games anymore. This is how she wants it.
Xander: I just don't want to lose you.
Buffy: I won't get hurt. (reaches into a weapons cabinet)
Xander: That's not what I mean.
Buffy: Just get me an address.
The Freshmen:
Xander: Buffy, I've gone through some fairly dark times in my life, faced some scary things, among them the kitchen at 'The Fabulous Ladies Night Club.' Let me tell you something, when it's dark and I'm all alone and I'm scared or freaked out or whatever, I always think, 'What would Buffy do?' You're my hero. Ok, sometimes when it's dark and I'm all alone I think, 'What is Buffy wearing?'
Buffy: Can that be one of those things you never, ever, tell me about?
Xander: It's a deal. Let's put this bitch in the ground! What do you say?
She holds out her right hand and he helps her up.
Buffy: I think I say thank you.
Xander: And nothing says thank you like dollars in the waistband. Ok, what do we do first?
I Was Made to Love You:
BUFFY: That's my secret to attracting men. You know, it's simple really, you slap 'em around a bit, you torture 'em, you make their lives a living hell-
XANDER: Buff...
BUFFY: ...and sure, the nice guys, they'll run away, but every now and then you'll meet a real prince of a guy like Spike who gets off on it.
XANDER: Buffy ... (jerks his head sideways) Stand me up.
Buffy helps him stand up straight. He loses his balance and slants toward Buffy, who puts her hands on the puffy stomach to stabilize him.
XANDER: The problem is not you. Don't do this to yourself, please.
BUFFY: It's just ... I just wanna know that there's gonna be another good one. One that I won't chase away.
XANDER: There will be. Promise. He's out there, he could come along any minute.
BUFFY: Yeah, and the minute after that I can terrify him with my alarming strength and remarkable self-involvement.
XANDER: What? I don't think you're like that.
BUFFY: Maybe I could change. You know, I could, I could work harder. I could spend less time slaying, I could laugh at his jokes, I mean, men like that, right, the, the joke-laughing-at?
XANDER: Or maybe you could just be Buffy, he'll see your amazing heart, and he'll fall in love with you.
Buffy looks touched.
BUFFY: Xander, that's ... aw!
She puts her arms around Puffy Xander and rests her head on his big puffy chest.
~*~*~*~
BUFFY: I mean, look at me obsessing about being with someone. It's like ... I don't need a guy right now. I need me. I need to get comfortable being alone with Buffy.
XANDER: Well, I'll say this, she's a pretty cool person to be alone with.
BUFFY: (smiles) Thank you.
Seeing Red:
XANDER: The past few weeks...
BUFFY: I know.
XANDER: I thought I hit bottom, but ... it hurt. That you didn't trust me enough to tell me about Spike. (pauses, softly) It hurt.
BUFFY: I'm sorry. I should have told you.
XANDER: (small smile) Maybe you would have, if I hadn't given you so many reasons to think I'd be an ass about it.
BUFFY: Guess we've all done a lot of things lately we're not proud of.
XANDER: (slightly larger smile) I think I've got you beat.
BUFFY: Wanna compare?
XANDER: Not so much.
Beat. They smile tentatively at each other.
XANDER I don't know what I'd do ... without you and Will.
BUFFY: (teary) Let's not find out.
Xander nods. They hug.
BUFFY I love you. You know that, right?
Beneath You:
XANDER
At a spanking new Hellmouth High. Please. Outside of drugs and violence and the unwanted pregnancy, and, uh, unleashing of hordes of Armageddon that comes pouring out of the school's foundation every now and then, what trouble could these kids have?
BUFFY
Guess I'll find out.
XANDER
Those kids are damn lucky having a slayer and a friend on campus there for 'em. I hope they appreciate it. I know I did. (Xander and Buffy share a smile)
Dirty Girls:
XANDER
Let me tell you something about Buffy. In fact, you should all listen to this.
KENNEDY
Uh, we kinda were.
XANDER
I've been through more battles with Buffy than you all can ever imagine. She's stopped everything that's ever come up against her. (Buffy and Faith walk through the front door and overhear Xander's speech) She's laid down her life—literally—to protect the people around her. This girl has died two times, and she's still standing. You're scared? That's smart. You got questions? You should. But you doubt her motives, you think Buffy's all about the kill, then you take the little bus to battle. (Buffy tears up) I've seen her heart, and this time—not literally. And I'm telling you, right now, she cares more about your lives than you will ever know. You gotta trust her. She's earned it.
End of Days:
XANDER
I should be at your side. That's all I'm saying.
BUFFY
You will be. You're my strength, Xander. You're the reason I made it this far. I trust you with my life. That's why I need you to do this for me.
XANDER
(getting a little misty, sentimental) OK.

Did you ever hear the expression, "One 'Aw, s**t' can cancel out a thousand 'attaboys'?" Add this to your list of "Xander-isms": "I'm trying to see your logic here, Buffy, but I guess it must be a little to my left." That's the one that knocked him off of that pedestal for me.

Because he lost his left eye, get it? He's upset, he's hurt, he's human. In the end, he was there for Buffy, and that makes up for it. I'd say Xander did worse than not siding with Buffy in Empty places, at least at that time he got a valid reason not to.
I think I give the guy more cridit than the rest of the cast because he had no superpowers and yet he bravely faught for the world. That's brave and heroic enough for me to like Xander, and it's awesome that Buffy shares that opinion as well.

I guess I would have felt a lot better if there had been a scene (and maybe there was, and it got cut from the final version), where Willow, Xander, Giles, and Dawn had took Buffy aside, or better yet, said it in front of the whole group, and said something like, "we were wrong to doubt you, Friends don't do things like that, especially in a life and death situation. This is war, you are our leader. You were wrong, and we see that now. We should never have forced you to have to face that alone." (And before someone points out that one of the Potentials did admit that they were wrong in what they had done to her, let me point out that they were not the ones who had claimed to be fer best friends for seven years. )
In the military, what they did is called "mutiny," and in a wartime situation, it is punishable by death.

I'm right there with you, he might of been upset, but no need to jump on the hate Buffy bandwagon.\
But he had 1001 attaboys so he kinda comes back from it ^_^

Friends aren't angels. Friends make mistakes. Buffy, herself, wasn't an angel in that scene, ordering her friends and eveybody to fall in line like slaves when they didn't agree with her plan. I can see why Buffy did this, I can see why they did this. In the end, Buffy and Xander were walking together holding hands and trusting each other. So I still consider it a good friendship, which thank God was not flowery and perfect, because that would have made it boring to watch.
I can see where Xander came from in that scene, I think Faith and Xander came out better than the others, but I do see everybody's point:
Here comes the significance of Xander losing an eye. Xander had to get hurt badly after he had backed up Buffy in her 'reckless' plan in Dirty Girls. The fact that Xander was so loyal to Buffy and that his pay for this loyalty was getting maimed, followed by Buffy showing no sympathy (at least in front of Xander) and then later Giles mentions that Buffy doesn't trust them anymore, all that made Xander break. He wasn't broken when he lost his eye, he was broken that his loyalty and attempt to be strong didn't mean anything to Buffy. Who's the person who had backed up Buffy when everybody ganged up on her in Dirty Girls? It was Xander, the keeper of the house, the center of unite. When Xander got hurt, the house broke down and Buffy got kicked out. (That was said by the writers)
Some fans say, "So he got a booboo, big deal, he had signed up seven years ago to fight with Buffy, he should know there'll be consequences." He knows. Why else was he understanding in the hospital, but losing a part of your body isn't something you can pfft away. And again I repeat, that wasn't what has broken him.
The First and Caleb knew about Buffy's heart for sure. Xander is Buffy's loyal friend, the one who always stood by her side. In Dirty Girls Xander gave a rousing speech to get the potentials to trust Buffy. But when the eye was lost and Buffy wasn't showing any concern, no, also Giles telling them Buffy doesn't trust them, Xander couldn't bring himself to protect Buffy anymore. He's too hurt physically and emotionally. That shows Xander's importance, Xander is the one who backed Buffy in Dirty Girls when the potentials were complaining about her plan, Xander's blind loyalty led to his permanent injury. Now when Xander wasn't there to help Buffy the house fell down. Xander is the character that keeps the house solid, the glue the holds the house together, when Xander got hurt, the house fell down and Buffy got kicked out.

I really didn't want to get into this fight again but I just had to say I agree totally with you. Buffy had declared war on the The First out of necessity. When Xander lost his eye it was THE FIRST TIME in seven years that ANY of the core four had been severly injured with lasting effects. He knows there is casualties in war and he also knows that Buffy had NEVER let them down before and there should have been some serious apologising going on. I can understand him being pissed about his eye, but It DID NOT require for Buffy to be kicked out!

So it's okay for Buffy to have feelings and screw up, but not the others? I guess they made up off screen seeing how chummy Buffy and Xander looked in the kitchen scene as well as in Chosen. I get how annoying it is not to see a scene where they all make up and talk about what had happen, but that's S7, it sucks unless you're a Spuffy fan, then you'll think it's wonderful and I don't blame Spuffy fans for thinking so. The Spuffy storyline was very well written, but if you're a fan of other characters, I'm sure the season won't satisfy you, that's why S7 is hated so much. Not all of us are Spuffy fans and the writers sadly don't seem to get that at that period.
Why don't we just talk about nice things, c'mon, guys, this thread is for sweet Xander/Buffy friendship scenes, can't we look at the positive and ditch the negative? This is an appreciation thread, not the opposite. You can create an anti-Buffy/Xander friendship thread if you want.
Here are some questions :)
What are your top 5 (or 10) favorite Xander/Buffy scenes?
What's your favorite season for Xander/Buffy (friendship or otherwise)?
What are your top 5 (or 10) favorite Xander/Buffy scenes?
1- Their scene in Selfless. i love when Xander and Buffy fight.
2- When they were talking about a present for Tara in Family.
3- Xander convincing Buffy to follow Riley.
4- The way she whispered Xander when he saved her in Prophecy Girl
5- The sexy dance in When She Was Bad. I know Buffy was being a censored, but I loved that scene.
What's your favorite season for Xander/Buffy (friendship or otherwise)?
Season seven. They had that family vibe with them being father and mother of the house while the other characters were their children.

The point is, Giles spent most of the season and particularly the episode 'Lies my parents told me' telling Buffy how as the leader she has to make the decisions no matter the cost, Xander agreed and then when she makes the hard decisions, because they aren't flavour of the month or because they've been injured in war(which Xander should understand even more because of his "Military Training" - would Army Xander have mutined like that?) they turn on the leader.
Xander did many things that proved his valour and honour but for one shining moment in season 7 he showed that he wasn't the 'great one' he was more often then not portrayed as.

I understabd where your coming from so I set up a thread to talk about ALL the scoobies throwing Buffy out, not just Xander. And one other thing, you say that S7 was sh!te for anyone not a Spuffy and that other charcters and relationships were not given as much attention, how then is it your favourite Buffy/Xander season? It just seems as a bit of a contradiction to me.
Edit:
What are your top 5 (or 10) favorite Xander/Buffy scenes?
1. Slefless, I had been waiting five years for Buffy to cut into him about 'Kick his ass'. Well worth it.
2. When she was Bad, Its just great to watch and I love the song 'Sugar Water' too..very sultry!
3. The scene from the comics when he and Buffy are trying to decide what the 'Twilight' design was...'Your a terrible watcher!'
4. The scene from 'The Freshman' in the Bronze
5. Phases, the scene in the funeral home.
What's your favorite season for Xander/Buffy (friendship or otherwise)?
I don't have one.

I hate S7, even though I liked the first 7 episodes where everything seemed to be tight. In those early episodes, Xander and Buffy were very close, they appeared like parents to Dawn and a lesser degree the rest of the characters. I love that aspect.
Again I hate S7, but I can admit that there were nice things about it, those nice things though weren't enough, they were so little compared to the nice things we saw in other seasons. None of the characters got a nice and tight arc other than Spike and Buffy, which is why only Spuffy fans seemed to like the season, and again I don't blame them. Hey, I like S1 because Xander had a nice arc there, and that season was fully of cheesy plots.
Ironically, it was my favorite Buffy-Xander friendship season. Buffy appeared closer to Xander than season that she is to Giles and Willow. And after the Empty places scene, only Xander and Buffy were the ones who shared sentimental scenes together. She didn't have one with Giles or Willow, or even her own sister. And that hand squeeze in Chosen made me sure that Xander and Buffy had reconciled and are good friends, the first episode in S8 confirms what I'm saying.
That's why it's my favorite Buffy-Xander season. :)
Speaking of nice Xander-Buffy moments check this link, it's so cute:

Hi Mirage :) I feel the same way about Xander. I don't think I'd ever like him this much if it wasn't for his mistakes, he reminds me of a lot of people, including myself, and that's why I enjoy his character the most. He's never perfect, but he's not evil. He's a good flawed character which makes him so real.
Did you guys check that link I posted? It's really sweet.

I'm not a particular fan of them as friends and I didn't use to think of them as couple-potential. I think some of the best Xander/Buffy bonding is going on right now in the comics and I'm not so sure about the friends-only thing anymore.

I think they started to get closer since Seeing Red :) they had that family vibe with Dawn and it was there throughout S7. I thought their friendship was very familial, Xander drives Dawn to school, helps Buffy fixing the house, and in return Buffy saves his life, lol. They've got a balanced friendship. :)

Season One: Prophecy Girl
Buffy: Xander, you're one of my best friends. I don't want to spoil the friendship that we have.
Xander: Well, I don't want to spoil it either. But that's not the
point, is it? You either feel a thing or you don't.
Buffy: I don't. Xander, I'm, I'm sorry. I-I just don't think of you that way.
Xander: Well, try. I'll wait. (smiles weakly)
Buffy: Xander...
Xander: Nah. Forget it. I'm not him. I mean, I guess a guy's gotta be undead to make time with you.
Buffy: That's really harsh.
Xander: Look, I'm sorry. I don't handle rejection well. Funny! Considering all the practice I've had, huh?
Buffy: Xander, I'm sorry, I don't know...
Xander: You know what? Let's just not.
*~*~*
Xander: (to Angel) I don't like you. At the end of the day, I pretty much think
you're a vampire. But Buffy's got this big old yen for you. She thinks you're a real person. And right now I need you to prove her right.
Angel: You're in love with her.
Xander: Aren't you?
*~*~*
Xander: C'mon! Breathe! Breathe!
After another moment Xander stops pumping. Angel believes her lost. A
second later Buffy opens her eyes wide and draws a breath. She lies
still for a moment as she looks around with her eyes.
Xander: Buffy!
She turns her head to the side and coughs out a bunch of water. Xander
and Angel look at each other and smile. Xander puts his hand on Buffy's
forehead and strokes it gently. She looks up at him, surprised to see
him.
Xander: Buffy.
Buffy: Xander?
Xander: Welcome back.
Season Two: Phases:
Buffy: (to herself) Angel. (gets to her knees)
Xander: (leans down to her) Are you okay?
Buffy: (takes his hand) This isn't happening. (pulls herself up and
hugs Xander) He's gonna keep coming after me.
Xander: (hugs back gently) Don't let him get to you. He's not the same
guy you knew.
She pulls back a bit and looks up at him. He looks back kindly.
Season Three: Graduation Part 1:
Xander: I don't mean to play devil's advocate here, but are you sure you're up to this?
Buffy: It's time.
Xander: We're talking to the death.
Buffy: I can't play kid games anymore. This is how she wants it.
Xander: I just don't want to lose you.
Buffy: I won't get hurt. (reaches into a weapons cabinet)
Xander: That's not what I mean.
Buffy: Just get me an address.

She holds out her right hand and he helps her up.
Buffy: I think I say thank you.
Xander: And nothing says thank you like dollars in the waistband. Ok, what do we do first?

Season Six: Seeing Red:
Season Seven: Beneath You:
Season Eight: A Beautiful Sunset:
BUFFY: Are we doing any good? We’ve been fighting more demons, but… but it just seems like there’s more demons to fight, and, what, is that because of us?
Xander smiles back at Buffy, his face certain in his response.
XANDER: Buffy. Turn around.
From above, we see the two of them look down castle grounds below, and the dozens of Slayers down there.
XANDER: I live with a bunch of Slayers. Dozens of girls who are… so *filled up* with purpose, with confidence they didn’t have before… the walls are vibrating with it. I can’t sleep, the place is so charged.
Buffy is leaning against the stone wall along the rampart. She is looking over at Xander, smiling fondly.
BUFFY: You really need to ask Renee out already.
XANDER: Stop changing the subject to true things. Maybe now we’re only cleaning up messes, but we’re just getting started. What you’ve created here is a lot more than just monster fighters. It’s… you know, ah…
Buffy is looking sad again.
BUFFY: Connection. Why can’t I feel it?
Xander rubs his chin as he answers.
XANDER: Maybe you don’t get to. Maybe the leader, the girl who brings it all together, is the one that has to give that up.
Down below, we see the Slayers, happily training and sparring with each other. Up in the distance, we see the shapes of Buffy and Xander watching them.
BUFFY: Yeah.
Buffy stares ahead with resignation on her face.
BUFFY: Yay me.

Yay! It's a Buffy and Xander thread!
I know Xander messes up sometimes. I know he can be really judgmental and even kinda mean when he feels like someone he loves is on the chopping block, but I totally love him. I love him and I love Buffy and I love, love, love the relationship that Buffy and Xander have. They've been through so much together! Everyone likes to talk about the throwing Buffy out moment and, to a lesser extent, the "kick his ass" moment, but I'm sorry, two mistakes do not cancel out seven (now eight) years of solid friendship so important that in seasons 7 and 8, Buffy and Xander have become like family.
Xander has many virtues and essential functions that make him indispensable to Buffy:
1. Xander is the heart of the group. He's the one who loves... and loves and loves and loves. He loves his friends without reservation or expectation. Sure, I think he'd gladly take her up on a romantic offer if the opportunity ever presented itself in a more palatable way than, say, a love spell... but he'll also gladly take and honor her friendship. He's not just waiting around in the wings. He really and truly cares for her -- just as she is, even if she's not interested in him. His motives for loving her and supporting her (and Willow) aren't purely self-interested. The strength of his love for Willow saved the world. The strength of his love for Buffy keeps her going. Without Xander, the group would have faltered and splintered a lot more than it did. More importantly, without Xander, Buffy would have drowned way back when she faced the Master. Xander's great big mostly unselfish heart saves the world a lot - whether directly (as in the Yellow Crayon Speech) or indirectly (by lending continuous strength and encouragement to the other characters).
2. He's also the one who sees the big picture. Usually, when the other characters get bogged down in the minutiae of things, Xander is the one to remind them of how impressive they are. He's the one to remind them that they are heroes. It's kind of like in the season 8 speech mentioned above: he's not super, so he's far removed enough from what's happening to see what's really happening... and it's something amazing.
3. He's the ever-important comic relief, capable of finding the funny even in the darkest moments, thereby lifting morale. That's more important than I can say. He buoys the group. He buoys Buffy.
4. He's there for the day-to-day stuff. Somebody's gotta fix the leaky faucet -- or board the broken windows. Somebody's gotta bring the donuts to the Scooby meetings. Somebody's gotta brave the puffy suit. Somebody's gotta drive Dawn to school. Speaking of Dawnie, somebody's gotta take care of giant Dawn (by making sure she bathes, gets her clothes super-sized, etc.). You catch my drift? While everyone else is out being super, Xander is being responsible and making sure they don't live like animals. That's important. Joyce used to do that. But after Joyce's death, Xander took on that role more and more, to the point at which it seems that in season 8, he is almost entirely responsible for logistics on, like, a military scale (Go soldier boy training!).
There are more, I'm sure, but I'll stop here so that I can make my central point: Buffy and Xander compliment each other. Where one is weak, the other is strong. That makes it possible for them to support one another. They share history. They share love. They share hardship. They split responsibilities so that each can play to their respective strengths. Honestly, their friendship is amazingly solid. Sure, they've hit bumps along the road, but their friendship still works like a well-oiled machine. At this point, they're more than friends; they're family. That's why I'm a Bander shipper. I really think they're endgame. Even so, I think their friendship is worthwhile in and of itself. I would be content if they remained friends forever rather than jeopardizing that bond (or, you know, Xander's life) with a Bander relationship.
P.S. I love the Sugar Water scene from "When She was Bad." In the RPG, I keep waiting for some quality Xander and Buffy bonding time. I wanna put "Sugar Water" on his IPOD or something and have him say something funny to Buffy like, "When's it my turn to be bad?" lol.

Xander and Buffy had that sweet family vibe in S7. They were like the father and mother of the house. It was so adorable. The hand squeeze they gave each other in Chosen shows that their friendship is fine, and S8 proves that.
Personally, I like them more as friends. Their relationship feels more special because they're friends. Buffy's boyfriends such as Angel, Riley and Spike were loyal to her and stuck by her side only because they wanted something: they wanted her to return their love. Once the relationship was over all three left Buffy to do their own thing. Xander, on the other hand, accepted that she wouldn't return his romantic feelings and still stuck by her side. Now that's real loyalty.
Getting together with Buffy may ruin that for me, but I believe that Xander earned her love if she was able to give it to him.
(This is not me saying that Buffy's boyfriends weren't loyal, especially Spike, but this is me showing how much Xander is loyal to Buffy.)

I loved their friendship:)
Here are my favourite moments:
1. The scene in "The Freshman" when Xander tells Buffy she's his hero.
2. All their scenes in "I was made to love you":biggrinn:
This episode shows that Buffy had been through some bad times bad Xander's there for her.
3.When Xander saves Buffy in “Go fish”
4. In Villains when Willow cures Buffy and Xander says; “You’ve got to stop this. This dying thing is funny once, maybe twice.”
5.When Buffy tells Xander that he’s her strenght.

It is really a unique friendship :) It's great of him to get over her and still be friends with her. That takes lots of strength.

So true. And he was by her side no matter what. They've been together through good and bad times. Many years passed and many things happened but their friendship has stood the test of time and even grew stronger.

I like when Buffy and Xander have this big fight but the second it's broken by danger they forget they're fighting and start helping each other save the day like in Dead Man's Party :)
