I was lucky enough to get tickets to a preview screening of PS I Love You and saw the film tonight. Firstly, if you've read the book then be prepared because the movie is completely different - the only thing similar is the letters being sent by the dead husband. everything else is different! if you haven't read the book then it won't matter.
Now, for what we are really interested in.......

What about James?

He gets some good screen time in the first half of the movie then i'm sorry to say he gets none untill appearing in some photos at the very end. He looks fantastic - very hot and does he does a fine job with the scenes that he is in. it's a shame that the movie was not true to the book because John (james' character) had some really great scenes that have been lost due to the changes in the story and focus on different characters but oh well, at least he's in a halfway decent movie!

There was one funny thing - when Holly is weighing up career choices she does up some boards with pictures/descriptions of potential jobs that she might like. i remember two of her dream jobs - 1. paid assassin and 2. Vampire slayer. I didn't get a good look at what pictures were on the board though - guess i'll have to see it again (at least the first half anyway). It's a nice nod to the people in the audience who are not there purely for the romantic comedy.

I've been waiting ages to see this, I'm a little disappionted now. I saw some trailers and stuff and was really annoyed that they had made it all American, so much of the comedy and great things in the book was it's Irishness and now there is only a little bit of JM...grr argghhh!!

Nooo c'mon I want to hear it was great :( I actually don't want to see it only because of James' appearance, I was caught by the idea ( you know that someone's watching over you and helping you get through hell not alone ). But judging from what you two said maybe it is better to read the book. What is it called? Who is the author?

P.S. I Love You by Cecilia Ahern...its a very very sweet book. If you cry easliy, have tissues and chocolate at hand!

I thought the movie was great. I have not read the book so I cannot compare it but I think that standing alone it was a great film. My favorite was when then actually mentioned Vampire Slayers. (anyone think that was because James was in the movie?) Anway, I thought it was a great film and if you like James then you will love the movie because he does get quite a bit of screen time.

Aside from the few short glimpses of James Marsters, this movie absolutely stunk. I hate going to see movies after reading the book. The books are always 8 million times better.

James did good job in the movie, although I agree that if they would've done it a little bit more similar to the book, he would've had a much better part.

I always feel like instead of saying "Based on the book by...." they should just say "We f*cked this story up with our own crap, but we did use the same character names and title."

How much is Gerard Butler actually in the film?

He's in it more than I thought he would be. He's in a lot of flash back scenes and dream sequences and he does a lot of voice overs. If your going just to watch him you might be a bit disappointed, although for the scenes he's in he does look very sexy!!

I loved James in the film. He's line ''What's that smell?'' was really funny.

I haven't read the book, although I have been lent it by a friend. I thought the film was really good. It was a good mix of silly scenes with heartfelt scenes. I'd recommend people to go and see it.

Even though he's dead for most of the movie, he's in it more than James. He does have a great opening scene when him and Hillary are arguing and then when they're making up his does a great dance in his underwear. Suspenders are involved. It's very silly.

Overall, it was a good movie. Even though I didn't read the book, I could tell there was a lot to the story that was missing. I thought it was a nice way to spend my birthday. :)

Well from the trailer his accent is dodgy but he does dance in his undies! So you will like it for that.

I wanna see this for Gerry and JDM but I don't do chick flicks. So i'm put off at the same time of wanting to see it because its Gerry, which I blame you entirely for young lady!

i would think...not much. she is fairly painful in this film, her acting is way over the top in some parts, like she knows she's in a chick flick so has chosen to go melodramatic rather than just dramatic. just my opinion. But if you love Gerard then you should suffer through because he's in it a lot and is very likable. And James is a yummy bonus too.

B, I recommend you do what I am doing. Wait till DVD then flick to the good bits and ignore the bits and actors we would both find annoying. Not naming any names ;)

I went to this this movie the first day it came out over here.. Which is surprising as I very rarely watch films at the cinema, especially on their first day when the cinema is packed and everyones making noise and crunching popcorn and laughing and sneezing and coughing and..... *shudder*

anyway! I went to see this with my mum as shes a huge Gerard Butler fan and I well.. love James Marsters. I've read the book as well so I just had to see this. I've never seen Hilary Swank in anything before and hadn't heard of her before this and my god! I really HATE her. So that wasn't a good start to the film.. Gerard Butler dancing in his undies didn't really do anything for me either.. Actually the only bits in the movie I really liked were the comic bits with Phoebe (Dunno the characters name or the actresses but she was Phoebe from Friends so Phoebe it is) and the bits with James Marsters (mmm)

Also, as said in the first post it was nothing like the book apart from the letters. But overall I guess it was worth seeing, purely because of the tiiiny bit of james marsters I got to see!

I don't like Swank in this either but seriously do not judge her on this. She did not win two Oscars for nothing! The girl can act! Check out Million Dollar Baby and Boys Don't Cry.

I thought Swank was good in this film, but I can take or leave the actress, it's not like I don't like her.

Gerry's accent is a bit strained. The Irish accent just doesn't come off right. Now JDM looks all together utterly sexy and he can pull off an Irish accent!!!

For some reason I thought Butler's accent would have been better, not sure why now, DB's is almost better and my God is his accent horrific!

JDM was all kinds of yummy in this! I think it's the eyes! his accent is better but it's not great. and did anyone else think that Jm dipped into an English accent at times through the film?

I just came back from seeing this movie! It was really good! and I didn't know james was in it so the first time I saw the side of his face I'm thinking "Is that Spike!?" and then I saw the front and I'm like "Oh yes. It is!why didn't I see that on BB!" LOL well he was awesome despite his small role! and yeah keanoite he did have a bit of english accent in there! lol!

First thing I will say about the movie, nothing to do with James, though...I cried my eyes out...Now, moving on :p

I realised it was James the second he came into it, I didn't know he'd be in it, so when I saw him, I literally squealed right there...much to the shock of the two teenage girls sat infront of me :lmao: But, I don't think he was really in the movie much, but, I'm glad he was in it :p

And this is the thing Me and my sister keep discussing: How bad was Gerry's Irish accent...? Couldn't they have actually found an Irish person...?

I'm just reading the book now and I really can't get into it. I think that the film is a lot better. I don't know if its just the authors writting style but I'm really thinking about just skipping to the end of the book and having done with it :(

Really? I like the book alot more. I mean it's never going to be a Plutizer Prize Winner but it's a nice read. Maybe it's because you saw the film first, it's alot different from the book.

Nice that this thread was revived! I wouldn't have seen it, otherwise! I saw the movie in the movie house... wow, I just sounded 50, there... with a girlfriend, and we sobbed through the whole thing. Granted... I'm an easy cry, but I really enjoyed it. And, I admit I squealed a bit with the 'vampire slayer' thing. :)

I have not, however read the book. After reading the thread, I don't think I want to!

Oh my God his accent is awful! Really really bad. I mean I like Gerard Butler and all but would Colin Farrell or Jonathon Rhys Meyers not have been more suitabl?

LOL! That's what ruined the whole experience for me watching this movie. I couldn't understand why they couldn't just used Gerard's scottish accent, why go for a badly done Irish one? I kept giggling through the whole movie every time his voice came on....my god.

I have not read the book, but I wanted to see the movie. Didn't know James was in it until the opening credits, & the moment I saw his name, told my best friend "That's SPIKE!" :D (she doesn't watch Buffy or Angel but she knows all about Spike because of my Spike obsession....)

I really enjoyed the movie, even tho I am NOT a Hillary Skank fan. I love Gerard Butler, and I love James Marsters (he should have had more screen time!) and Lisa Kudrow and Kathy Bates were all wonderful in it.

Now I'm gonna have to read the book... because 98% of the time the book is ALWAYS better than the movie.

Don't get TOO excited though. James isn't in it that much, (although of course he's brilliant whenever he is. :)) It's an okay movie though, so it's worth it. Certainly more interesting than your average Hollywood romantic drama.

On a side note; have you seen James in Without a Trace? He was in 4 episodes in season 6 (1,2,9,12). Not a "meaty" role by any means, but well, it's James  If you have TV3, episode 9 is on this Sunday :)

I totally just saw it...:O

I must confess :I never liked Hillary Swank... She looks.. Weird, I mean look at her!

Lisa Kudrow was brilliant, and totally sweet. different than her "Phoebe" role, but absolutely enjoyable. (Her scene on the boat where she screams is just hardcore funny!)

James didn't have many lines though. DAMMIT! But he was totally cute, and delish. Ready to eat ya know. :D

Ireland was just breathtaking. OK, small tv screen isn't the same, but if I can go AW WOW over a 10'' screen, then I just have to go see it IRL!

I also wept a few times. I am SUCH a wuss when it comes to movies like this. I mean, when Holly reads the letter by the fort, and his ghost nuzzles to her shoulder. And just says "PS"... I swear, my room turned into a pool.

Didn't know that James Marsters was in this movie. Cool.
I just bought it, but only because Lisa Kudrow is in it.

Haven't seen it yet.
Must stop watching Buffy episodes so I can catch up with all these movies I have laying around unwatched.

I saw the movie when it was out in theatre, pretty good film. Hilary Swank did a great job as the main character imo. I was used to seeing Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe in 'Friends', so it was definitely different seeing her in that role for the film. And James Marsters was alright, I still prefer him as Spike =P

I saw it today and really enjoyed it! I can't believe I've waited so long to rent it on DVD. James was soooo cute. From what I heard about the movie, I thought he woulnd't be in many scenes, but he was in more scenes than I thought. Such a nice surprise. And Lisa Kudrow - brilliant! And I thought she was much like her character on "Friends", so loveable and funny. So I really liked this movie, and I don't usually enjoy this kind of movies!

I adore this movie. I watched it all the way through once and was kind of like mhew, it was okay. Then I re-watched and I am officially a fan. I cry at the end. True story.
