one of my all time favorite character but you guys i wish that instead of having fred's soul destroyed by the fires of ressurection, hollowing out her body, and frying her organs they should have went about it a different way i mean after all fred's done to allow fred to die one of the most horrible its death imaginable i think is wrong on so many levels. i think they should have had illyria's essence and fred become as one like the phoenix force and jean grey. that way we have the old one yet fred still is there. i mean what's the point of illyria's preodained ressurection when she finally gets a host who's been hollowed out and skin hardened. yet the shell can't hold the full scope of illyria's powers. i think they should have kept illyria as she was i mean it wasn't like she had planet destroying powers. that case they should have depowered willow too because she was capable of destroying the world.

I personally don't like Illyria, but that's mostly because she took over Fred's body, I think her coming into Season Five was pretty pointless, to be honest.

Well, I suppose that would work. Or kinda like the Glory/Ben thing, with body sharing.

yeah something like that ,maybe its just me but that was a horrible death for such a heroine as fred they shouldn't have let her die so horribly.

To be honest, I missed that episode of Angel, because my brother was watching football =/ But I heard what happened.

I think the destruction of Fred was partly, on the writers' part, to avoid the "Sam and Diane" problem, in which once a couple FINALLY gets together, they become boring. I love Fred, and I love Wesley, and I loved them together and wish they'd had more time, but the writers performed a preemptive strike on the "Sam and Diane" problem, that's all.
I found Illyria to be a very interesting character, and a great way to keep Amy on the show even though Fred was dead, and a way to keep Wesley miserable (since that's Joss' favorite pastime--keeping characters miserable). If given the choice, I honestly don't know which I would have chosen: Fred and Wesley together or Illyria on the show. They were both great.

Well, Wes was gonna die anyway, so I don't really see the point, but okay =/

You may, and I emphasise the word MAY get your wish if you want Fred to return. There was a plan to seperate Fred and Illyria in Season 6 Angel if it had never been cancelled. If the new Season 6 comics go the way the Buffy Season 8 are, we might see that plan carried through. Keep your fingers crossed.

I don't think that, if Fred had lived, Wesley would have died. I think that if Fred had been alive, he would have felt that he had a reason to live and may have gone into that last fight better prepared, both physically and mentally.

actually, had the show not been cancelled, and run on to S6, Wesley would not have died...Gunn was going to die instead and become a vampire. i guess, with the comic, we got both.
personally, i LOVE Illyria, it's where i took my name after all. i thought her charcter was so unique, and i loved the fact that while she still looked like Fred, she very definiely wasn't Fred. i thought it was a great way to show off Amy's acting skills, especially in the ep with Fred's parents, where Illyria was pretending to be Fred.
Illyria also spoke one of my all time favorite lines of the show...'Would you like me to lie to you now?'
it was such a powerful moment and the emotion captured in that emotionless voice was just unbelievable.

I agree 100%
I think it was great that Fred became Illyria. I loved Fred so much and even more. At first I couldnt believe that Amy Acker was playing Illyria because it was such a big change from her usual role. It was awesome!!!!

Yea, I still can't believe Illyria (Amy Acker) was ever actually playing both of them!! They are so different!! And yet they look the same and are both great characters. Illyria was just so much cooler, blue stuff, attitude, kicking people's asses ^_^ But yea, Amy made them soooo different!! Every time I see Illyria I forget that she was once fred because they sound/speak so differently!

i feel the same i just wish fred could have gained illyria's powers and attitude because the character is great but fred's death was just a little harsh
Never liked her personally.

I was very sad to see Fred go, because she was such a strong character, which she proved especially by living 5 years in Pileah (sp?) and then again in season 4 of Angel when she was the only one who knew the true Jasmine.
But in saying that, I was a fan of Ilyria too. I thought she had some really great lines, because of her completely different perspective on the world.
