View Full Version : Season 8 Romance (Very Slight Spoilers)

Have you noticed how NOBODY in Season 8 seems to be active in the romance department? All of the significant others from the previous seasons are either dead or are referred to as "Exes." I know that Joss said that they can't play Romeo and Juliette indefinitely, and I know that there are a couple of things hinted at, such as the crush that the young Slayer has on Xander, the similar one the Japanese girl has on Buffy, and the references to Dawn's "first time," but, really, do you think Joss plans on the whole crew remaining celibate for the entire run of the series? I'd even settle for a little sexual tension between Buffy and a visiting Angel if it would get the romance ball rolling for Season 8 (the dream sequence doesn't count). These kids need some relief!

I agree that it's annoying that the only two couples we ended season 7 with are already gone. I do believe Joss is working on something in the romance-department. As you pointed out there's a few hints of romance, and I guess that it's just the sowing of the seeds.

Well i think right now they are focusing on action, fleshing out the story of the big bad and whats going on (it may up to issue #9, but in the grand scheme of things, thats not too many). I'm pretty sure they would get around to it. It wouldn't be buffy without SOME relationship drama!

Here's one I'm surprised nobody has mentioned yet. Faith and Giles.
C'mon...is it really that much crazier than Xander and Buffy? Didn't Steed and Peel wind up together?

Actually, Mrs Peel left the show to be replaced by a younger woman who was about the same character. Throughout the series, Steed and his partner (Mrs Peel was actually his second female co-star, replacing Honor Blackman when she moved onto the big screen with Sean Connery in Goldfinger) maintained a strictly businesslike partnership, never even reaching a first name basis (They did guzzle quite a bit of champagne, though.)

I've never been able to sit through the whole movie, but wasn't there supposed to be a Steed/Peel romance in that?

I could care less about relationships in season 8 :p I think I'm still bitter about Anya, and now no Kennedy. :p
As bad as W/K was, I'd pop a blood vessel and burn my comics if I had to stare at crudely drawn W/K sex.
It'd just be creepy no matter who they started showing together, comics don't convey romance well all that often.
I think they're just taking Anya's advice from "Storyteller" for now, if you know what I mean.

I never even saw the movie, and in fact had forgotten that one was ever even made. I was talking about the original television series with Patrick McNee and Diana Rigg. Believe me, their relationship was always 100% professional.

Don't really know what's going on with Kennedy, I don't really like her though.
The Xander/Buffy thing is being hinted at.. but there's also Renee. I'm not really worried about where the romantic stories will go.

Even if you don't like her, did they write her out just because there can't be a lesbian relationship or something in the comics? or did they just not want Willow/Kennedy to continue on in the comics for ....what reason? Anyone know?

We don't know if Kennedy is going to show up or not, early days guys.
Willow said they were 'in their own space' who knows what that means. But I'd prefer someone different for her.. liked Kennedy to begin with, but she got way too bratty. So curious about what's going to be said about it in #10.. trying not to read the spoilery reviews.

^ I wanna see this : king : that's impossible, so i'd rather have Xander be alone forever :D Willow can have Kennedy, Buffy can go shag one of her vamps(idc which) and those wannabe's who are trying to get with Xander can be killed in battle :D Nuff said? no ^_^ Dawn can keep her weird lover and stay tall forever :lmao: then we can travel back in time and rip the fabric of the universe and bring in Anya to have some romance :lmao: okays!
But if that doesn't happen then yes!!!!!! I want to have Kennedy come back, Willow, Buff, and Xander being alone is....weird. Plus Faith is alone, and Giles, and who knows what Dawn is doing :s

Faith and Giles... Ew, no. I think the only relationship developing between them is Buffy/Giles style... Close to father and daughter, but then again maybe not that extreme. They certainly have a lot of respect for each other.

ohweird.
i havent seen that.
whats going on in that one?
what does spike say about buffy?
i have to know.
if she even says anything.
Spike isn't in it. as far as we know, Andrew is still the only one who knows he's alive. Spike is currently appearing in the Angel S6 series 'After the Fall' sewt after the fight in the ally at the end of 'Not Fade Away'

wow. im so far off.
i dont watch fireflyor angel.
all i have watched is buffy.
i havent read the comics either.
but i love it times 100.
so your saying at the end of the 7th season spike did not die???
thats like a mind blower.
and how does andrew know?
yes, Spike did die...he just came back from the dead 19 days later in Angel's office at Wolfram and Hart. he appeared in Angel's fifth and final season, working for Team Angel and is now appearing the comic version of the sixth season.
Andrew knows he's alive because he went to LA, where Anel is based, to pick up a Slayer and saw Spike. the blonde vampire asked him not to tell anyone that he was alive, and as far as we know, Andrew has kept his word.

We could have a revival of the short lived Xander/Faith thing. That way, Xander could act as a sort of go between to get Buffy and Faith back on friendly terms, and then maybe Giles could bury the hatchet with the rest of the gang... That should be enough romance to last for awhile (Buffy can keep having her dream beach parties with Percy Bond. At least that's harmless enough.)
i'm still leaning towards the Xander/Buffy angle. for some reason, it's starting to make sense to me. of course, now that i've said that, Xander will turn out to be the betrayer person and it'll all end in tears.
alexa

Xander would be the biggest shock value if he was the betrayer. Wonder when we find out.. but if Buffy is robbing banks she needs someone to pull her into line. The whole 'closest and most unexpected' is so annoying, Joss loves messing with my mind. Still hope they move towards the Xander/Buffy angle though.. it's about time. Notice how I subtly got back on topic
closest and most unexpected thing is slowly starting to make me think of a certain sister...but then, we did that betrayal angle in S7.

I'm not against the idea of Buffy/Xander. I could see it happening. Though imagine Anya's reaction!

Sumpin like this! (http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=WEJJUGJZxpU) Maybe anyway lol.
And am I the only one that wants Fuffy this season?
???
EDIT
alexa agrees: no I'm pretty sure a lot of men do ;)
Not for those reasons lol. I just want it to happen because they seem right together. Idk...just my opinions lol.

Another with common... desires for the comics lol. They are so right for eachother!
I must be the only guy on the boards who, whereas I find Fuffy cute, doesn't want it to happen in the series:lmao:

I find Willow/Buffy intriguing, if it ever happens.

Even as a VERY strong Fuffy supporter, I am also intrigued by the idea of Willow/Buffy, I'd find it interesting enough if Willow was interested in Buffy. But, I doubt it could be considering the last issue, but I suppose things could turn around.
