In this episode Buffy starts working a "normal"job to earn money. When Spike shows up he asked Buffy why she is doing this job,she needs the money. Spike tells her he can give her money ,So I am wondering were Spike gets the money, Giles left so no money coming from him anymore, playing poker and selling kittens he won, or just from stealing but how is this possible with the chip in his head,he can not attack people.
I think hes implying he can "get" money for her if need be, as in a bit more effort to steal money for her.

Possibly Spike, as well as Angel, Darla, and more than a few other vampires had long term investments from which money could be drawn when needed. Probably agencies similar to Wolfram and Hart handled accounts for vampires or any other demons requiring the service. Just a few dollars, pounds, francs, rupees, or whatever, could accumulate quite a bit of interest over decades or even centuries. Accumulating the initial investment funds would be as simple as robbing the corpses of their victims.

This sounds like Angelus' M.O. It sounds like Darla's M.O. It doesn't sound like Spike's. He never seemed to care about money at all until he was chipped and actually had to buy stuff rather than steal stuff off his victims' corpses. I think Spike meant he'd do some good, old-fashioned crime -- even if it gave him a headache. lol.
Maybe the thing with the eggs was an attempt to make money for Buffy?
Also, if he thought about it, he could be a stripper or a gigolo. It would be a good short-term way to make money fast. I mean, he certainly had the body for it as well as the exhibitionist attitude. Society looks down on it, so it wouldn't have hurt his pride any. It still would have been seedy and edgy. Actually, that would have made a really funny episode... having one of the scoobies go on a drunken bender, end up at a strip club, and then have to do a double take when he/she looked at the stage. "Spike?" lol. That's one episode that season 7 needed. It would have had me howling with laughter!

If you think back to season 4, in 'Where The Wild Things Are' he said he scared people into giving him money, that could have been an on-going thing...

Spike was still technically bad here (albeit neutered) so maybe he was thinking of robbing a bank or even mugging some other goon so the chip wouldn't activate on him and taking the money.
However, I do also think that over a hundred years of living might accumulate some artifacts or antiques unto which Spike could pawn/sell/trade for the required resources. I mean somehow Spike was able to get a TV and buy groceries for himself so there must be money somewhere.

Yea, plus when he played poker he didn't he play for money.. he played for kittens!! Maybe he used to just take the cash from the people he killed/beat up. Since he can't do that, maybe he just scares them into giving him some money? That might work go all grr arg and tell some old people to give him all their money. Plus he could still do evil things, to make money whatever they might be, he just couldn't hurt anyone, physically.

There were probably demons floating around that owed Spike money aswell.

Tough question actually. It'd be hard to tell...or maybe Spike worked at McDonalds down the street or something.
???
Who knows. Lol.

There was all that treasure from the chamber where he found the Gem of Amara or whatever it was called. Surely he either put some of that aside for a rainy day or saeled the thing up again for future us. There looked like there were TONS of assorted gold and jewelry just laying there for the taking...

Yeah that was like pirate treasure bounty! It would keep him going fro centuries, especially the way he was living in sunnydale

Perhaps that was the money Spike was referring to that he could provide for Buffy. ;)

I know this thread is about Spike's offer of subsidizing Buffy's slaying, but can it be about the episode, too?
I just ask because I gotta say this is one of my fave episodes. I had a soul-sucking minimum wage job, once, and this episode perfectly captured the soul-suckingness of the service industry. Penis head lady was weird and not so cool, I'll grant you, but I liked the way the episode explored the inherent evilness that goes hand in hand with food service work.
Note: Still coulda used some stripper Spike humor, though. I forgot that I had that idea. Then I re-read this thread. Now, I'm stuck on that idea again. That would have been tooooo funny. Just thinking about it makes me laugh. That was a missed opportunity, man.

I must say I never liked this episode very much. It's because there are too many things that just make me go "ewww" ( a finger found in meat, or that weird monster-lady) All that place-Doublemeat Palace was just creepy to me.
But still there are some moments I love: Anya's speech about labour at the beginning of the episode, Halfrek's appearance in front of the scared Xander (it was funny)...
And what about Spike's offer of getting the money for Buffy?
I was always sure Spike was stealing money untill season7 . I don't know in what way. Probably he was scaring people and robbing them as he did in "Where the wild things are". Possibly he was stealing money in bars(somebody got drunk and Spike cleaned up his wallet) Maybe he was a shoplifter? Or maybe all of the above.
I think this is where he was getting the money from.
But striper Spike idea, which was written by palabravampiress, is just hilarious.

I might be wrong, but does anyone remember a Buffy episode, once Spike had the chip, where he worked out that he can jump out of corners on dark alleys with vamp face on and people would drop their wallets or give him money or something, and run away?? [His chip didn't go off because he had no intention to hurt the people, as I recall]. I know there was something along those lines suggested in an episode, so that would explain Spike's fund that keeps him in 'blood and smokes' as well as being able to give Buffy some if needs be.
