I'm feeling a little blonde today, but luckily, my husband is ignorant on the subject too, so I don't feel as bad.

First question....define TPB for me. Just for random knowledge.

"Santa" got me the first TPB for Buffy and the Angel Comics. And I have to say, I like the format of the TPB a lot better. I feel like I'm actually allowed to read the darn thing. Maybe I dated a comic nerd for too long, but the plastic wrapper and just the comic in general makes me feel like I am not supposed to touch it. Like I'm "cheating" or sneaking and breaking laws or something.

But, sadly, I finished the TPB in record time even while trying very hard to NOT read the darn thing because I just knew this would happen. I went to Dark Horse last night and there is no new TPB announced as of May something. And I just can't wait until May. Especially once my husband announced that there is a new comic shop less than a mile from my house AND on the way to pick up the kid from Kindergarten. I fear my resolve isn't going to hold out.

So, my second question is....if another TPB isn't listed yet, does that really mean anything? Would they list it this far in advance or would this be something that they may decide in February to put out in March? Or are we talking summer. I can busy myself until March....June will make me insane. More insane than normal anyway.

TPB = Trade Paper Back. I like it better, too, for the reasons you listed and because you get the whole arc in one shot instead of jumping up and down and screaming when you hit the end of the comic after 5 minutes and they've left you hanging.

I can't wait that long, but yeah they are cool. I loved reading Fray for the first time, lots of issues to read all at once.
But the next TPB may be earlier then they say, because that's what happened with The Long Way Home. You never really know. But Also the next 5 issues are all out and available right now, so you could just go and get them all and then sell them on ebay ;)

In December publishers put out the solicitations for March, meaning they give the distributor the details of what they're publishing that month. They usually plan things like TPBs in advance though. Since the TPBs collect five months worth of comics, I suspect they'll come out once every five months.

I wandered into our comic shop yesterday. And he "promised" the next one would be Feb or March. Which although I kind of question, I'll go with. Being patient works easier when going that route. He also was all into giving me deals and 30% off and 15% off all the comics and that if I told him what I wanted to read that he'd give me a "box" and I'd never have to worry about them being sold out. He also told me to come in on Wednesday and he'd have the TPBs of Shadow Puppets and Asylum to help keep me busy.
He was an odd duck, I'll give him that. EXTREMELY friendly, as was the girl who was working there. But, I don't like strangers and they were still extremely fun and easy to talk to.
Anyway, I've been busy trying to convince myself that this guy knows more than the DarkHorse site and to just keep telling myself March. I figure, that leaves me these two Spike ones and the Angel comics I can read. I don't have much time to read anyway. It's back to working time and comics and paints don't mix.

But, I would like a BIG SHOUT if anyone hears about the 2nd Buffy TPB being put out. It also helps my patience if I'm continually updated with news....and you guys ALWAYS know more than me.

Our local comic store guy is an "odd duck," as well. Maybe "rude" is a better word. He refuses to put out comics until Thursday even though he gets them on Wednesday ("so people don't mess with them while they're still in boxes," he says, but just getting more help for the store would fix that). And last month he decided not to get any new comics AT ALL for no good reason. Needless to say, I don't go there anymore, which means I have to drive an hour to get my Buffy comics, but the people at that store are nicer and have more in stock.

Well, drive down here to shop! This guy is just the nicest guy ever!
My husband and I just spent an hour marveling at how nice he is. Me telling him how the guy seemed to honestly CARE what I wanted and didn't try to talk me into anything. And him telling me some story about how he bought some beat up comic from a kid before Christmas because the kid was selling it to buy his Mom a Christmas present and how the guy not only bought the comic for like $5 when it was trash, but also sat and gave him a lesson about how to take care of him comics and gave him a bunch of bags and cardboard to put his other comics in.

I fear for our mortgage payments now. The LAST thing I needed was a bunch of comics that I want, a store less than a mile from my home, and Mr. Nicest Guy In The World running it. I was hoping for "across town and surly".

I know, June is a bit too long. doesn't make any sense to me at all. March makes way more sense! I can't believe I have to wait. Well, alteast I get the comics monthly also so I don't have to worry.
Dlou444 I suggest just springing for it and getting the comics monthly. It will satisfy you and also well, I guess $4.00 is worth that. Wait...how much are the comics in the shops? I order mine online from Packrat comics so I have no idea. I get discounts.

Hey, I would just like to get something cleared out. Like you guys, I like the TPB better because it's a few episodes at a time and all (the only problem is that I'm way behind when I wanna discuss it on the board, cos ppl moved on and know much more than me :( ).. so anyway, I got The Long Way Home, then learnt that No Future For You wouldn't be out before June. But then, I found info on wikipedia saying that 8.05 (The Chain) was out on its own... so I wanted to double check if anyone knows, is the Chain not included in the TPB? :silly:

One thing that hasn't been discussed is the collector angle. TPB's contain the entire arc, and I agree that it's much less frustrating to have the whole thing in a single package, not have to wait for the next month's installment, but there are some fans (I'm not one, but I know they're out there) who like to have each individual issue, and every variation of each cover as well. These are the people who go to the conventions and spend several hundred dollars at a time tracking down issues that they don't have. To them, it's the thrill of having the entire series more than just reading the story.
