Alright, I'm throwing down the gauntlet. This is a thread for "traditional", non-CGI Buffy creations. You know, paintings, drawings, sculpture, macaroni art...
I got the painting bug again and I'm working on something that's small enough to lay down on a scanner. Who's up for the challenge?

Hm, intresting, when were you thinking you'd have to have it in by?

Oh, you mean I have to create rules? lol. Um...
I wasn't really thinking of a competition per se. More like an ever expanding online gallery show. But yeah, deadlines can be good things.
Let's say (to get started and motivated)...I wanna see something by the end of January, the 31st. Or is that too soon?

A gallery of realy work could be cool to?
I wanna find the time to do this, sounds fun!

Ooh this looks like fun. I'm not too good at all the computer art work stuff (CGI?)
I remember my first ever decent piece of art work was of Buffy.. I must have been about 12. So i'll get on with it!
Btw.. What's macaroni art and how do you do it?? I'm intrigued

Maybe once there are enough submissions, we could create a proper gallery...like you'd click to get to the next piece...or just a cleaned up thread with all the work.

Macaroni art. It's a time-honored American tradition of...elementary school teachers who are running out of ideas for art projects.

You just need glue, pasta and your imagination.
I was thinking...since presentation is always important (especially for an "art show"), maybe the pieces should be framed in some way—unless your artistic vision requires that it not be.
You could actually frame the painting or drawing, for real. Or, get it into photoshop or whatever and invent a picture frame for it at that point.
If it's a sculpture or 3D thing...a clean, simple background would be good when you photograph it.

This sounds like fun though i cant wait to see what you all come up with ;)

Now, this sounds like real fun! :) I'll try to participate if I don't be lazy.

OK, with your submission, gimme some info:
• the title
• the medium (like acrylic on paper, oil on canvas, macaroni on cardboard...)
• the vertical and horizontal dimensions in inches or...centimeters I guess (excluding the frame). If it's 3D, I want the height.
damn, i don't have a scanner, otherwise, i might very well try to participate in this. lol, i'm more of an abstract artist...it's what i majored in. if i did do this, it would probably be somthing based on the comics. might just do it anyway, might find someway to up load it!

I wonder if you could go to a photocopy shop? A lot of them have scanners. Otherwise, if you or a friend had a digital camera, that might work.

One more question: Do such (http://img32.picoodle.com/img/img32/6/10/16/ula_gan/f_Zombpigm_8ce5420.jpg) things count?

Hmm. That looks computery to me. The final piece of artwork has to be rendered the old-fashioned way—by hand. No computers or art making programs.
If you want to use the computer to help you prepare, that's fine. For instance, if you want to find reference photos online, or even design a composition digitally as a reference, that's OK. But the final work needs to be done by hand.
After it's finished, it can be brought into photoshop to create the "presentation". If you want to create a frame or a matte on the computer, that's OK.

Ok, it was just reassuring question. So, we can't draw in Corel? Ok, gotta use scanner. :) Thanx for info.

Just thinking again. I guess everyone should PM me their submissions. Then I could create a gallery thread of all the work. You'd get the total shock and awe effect cos nobody would have seen the pieces before in this thread or any other. Sound like a plan? Let me know if you have any other ideas.

OK. I've designed signage for our art gallery. And I've got a tentative title for the first show. That may change, depending on all the submissions. I'm probably crazy, but I'm thinking big, imagining at least 20 pieces. We'll see where we stand at the end of the month. No previous art experience required, did I mention that? :)

Alright, I've got some early entries already. This is gonna be a good show. I can feel it.
Edit:
Here's a pretend example of an entry, if there's any confusion at this point.

OK, just tossing out a friendly reminder. Since (depending on where you are) it is or soon will be the weekend, and maybe you'll be wanting something to do...how about art making? C'mon, you know it's fun. Due date is next Thursday, the 31st.

Can we make requests. :) Speaking for me, I'd really like to see some Buffy related comic stuff. I've always wondered if we have members who can do that.
That would be admissible, right?

You're talking about actual panels that tell a story? Yeah. As long as as it's done by hand and Buffy related, we're good.

I'm working on it... well actually I've started working on it about 5 times then looked at my work and given up due to the absolute.. rubbish-ness of it!
Any ideas anyone?? I have come to the decision that I definitely can't draw people.

It's just for fun, don't get too hung up on it. You could make people really simple and cartoony. Heck, you could write a Buffy poem and ink or paint the words in a decorative, calligraphic style and...voila! Art.
If you're concerned about getting likenesses exactly right, there are all kinds of "cheats". Tracing, obviously. Have you ever tried an artist's grid (http://www.paintbygrids.com/articles/gridmethod.html)? You draw a grid on top of a photo or photocopy or whatever. Then you make another grid on drawing paper and recreate the lines in each little square. It just breaks a drawing down into easier chunks. Helps with getting proportions exactly right. I do it to transfer drawings to canvas.
ok, i have a free day tomorrow, so i'm gonna sit down and do something for this. don't know what, yet, but it'll be interesting to find out!!

Alright, it's deadline day. I'm gonna exercise my authority as gallery curator and extend the submission deadline by a week, to Thursday, February 7th.
We've got a pretty good batch so far. People can submit as many pieces as they want. Lyri's the record holder right now with four entries.

Awesome, I can't wait to see these. I have a picture I drew of Buffy, kind of cartoony style with ink and coloured pencils I'm debating on submitting. It's not ver good though!

Alright, here's your official invite to participate in our second show! Who's up for the challenge? We had a decent inaugural show; I think we can do even better.
Again, your art needs to be produced (primarily) by hand. Drawings, paintings, sculpture, collage, etc. And of course, it needs to be Buffyverse related. You've got roughly two months to plan and create your work(s) of art. People didn't seem too keen on framing their stuff for the first show. No worries—you can frame it, matte it, make it look pretty...or just hand it in as is. Let me know how large it is, in inches or centimeters. When it's finished, just PM me your submission. You can submit as many individual pieces as you want.
Let me know if you have any questions, comments, suggestions...
hmm, two months? hopefully i can get my scanner hooked up in time, and get some decent pieces done. my digital camera does not do justice...not that i think my work is anything to brag about, but it would have been nice to see them up there looking their best.

Lyri, if you get to the point where you'd like to scan your stuff from the first show, we could revise the gallery thread, that's totally cool. Your drawing skills shine through, regardless :)

I have a question, Can the art be Firefly/Serenity related or is this just for Buffy/Angel? Sorry if this is a dumb question since I know that you said it is Buffyverse related but I thought I would just ask. Thanks for helping! =)

That is a good question. It wouldn't be outside the bounds of this forum. But I think I'd like to limit this show to Buffy/Angel related stuff only. Maybe with the next event, we could expand the scope to all Whedon shows. Maybe the Dollhouse pilot will be on the Net by then :)

Alright, I've been crazy busy...so I'm gonna push this due date to Thursday, May 22nd. If anybody feels inspired, or you were on the fence about this, still plenty of time to submit!

Anybody interested in keeping this going? I just found this thread, and it looks like fun! All the photoshop art is nice, but I like seeing the "real" kind, and I would definately participate! Anybody?
You'd need to speak to goldenboy, this is his project.
We have just had our second exhibition, though. Gallery 1630 - Buffy-Boards (http://www.buffy-boards.com/showthread.php?t=36583)
