IDW has posted its solicitations for April... which includes After the Fall #6. There's no cover-art however. I wonder why that is. Anyway, they finally revealed all the names of the artist working on this issue. (No Franco Urru on this one.)
ANGEL: AFTER THE FALL #6
Written by Joss Whedon and Brian Lynch art by John Byrne, Sean Galloway, David Messina, Stephen Mooney and Kevyn Schmidt, covers by Joe Sharp and Rob Sharp and Rebecca A. Wrigley.
First Night begins! What happened on the very night Los Angeles went straight to hell, the incident that ended the Angel television series with such a shocking cliffhanger? Why did the team go their separate ways? And how did Connor rise up to become one of Hell's greatest champions? This first issue of a two-part series-within-a-series has the answers you've been waiting for!
32 pages, $3.99.

Brian Lynch just posted the covers to First Nights 1 and 2 on his MySpace blog. It's one piece of art spread over two covers. Looks pretty awesome if you ask me. But where's Gunn's scar? Or maybe he doesn't have it yet, because it's a flashback issue?

Is Angel actually going to fight off all of these 'big bads' champions in this issue? (The fourth one) That is what it seemed like in the previous issue, but than again it might take another 4 issues just to get that far. Will it?
Allycat
01-23-2008, 04:20 PM
As the first chapter in this epic tale reaches its penultimate point, Angel issues a challenge to someone-a lot of someones, actually-that he can't possibly win. Meanwhile, Spike considers changing sides as this hellish new status quo presents some opportunities he can't pass up. And we promise a shock ending more explosive than even those of the first three issues. Joss Whedon, Brian Lynch and Franco Urru continue their march through a Los Angeles truly gone to hell.
The blurb for the next issue suggests that it'll go down right away... but you can never be too sure.

Ah, OK, thanks. Found it.
Joss didn’t have any input on SHADOW PUPPETS, but something he said inspired a small part of it. He told me he liked the character of Betta George (the telepathic fish) from SPIKE: ASYLUM, and wanted to find a place for him in AFTER THE FALL. Problem is, Betta George died in ASYLUM, so I orchestrated his return in PUPPETS.
VisionGuy
01-24-2008, 01:49 PM
Betta George died in Asylum right? Why would he want to bring him back in Shadow Puppets so that he can be in After The Fall? His comics aren't canon anyway so George being dead in Shadow Puppets would have nothing to do with After The Fall. I can't stand that damn fish. If they wanted a psychic friend, they should have just brought back Lorne's friend from Aggie. Was that her name? At least she was hot and created by the people on the show.

It looks like Spike/Wesley will have a bigger role in the issue, only going on that cause they are featured more prominently than the others.
I could be wrong. Gunn looks sad though, that can't be good? can it? Maybe it's anger? Oh, and Lorne, I'd love to see him in the comic as well.

I thought I heard that the First Night comics were right after the battle began. Thats why we didnt see a scar on Gunns face from the other cover. And yea, thats Lindsay. Well, there's a big difference between AAtF1-I've-been-a-ghost-in-hell-for-three-months-Wesley and the Wesley we saw die in NFA. I guess the cover issue might just be the latter rather than the former.
Just a side note, First Night doesn't pick up right where NFA left of. It's not two big issues with just a lot of fighting in it. They're a collection of shorter stories each focusing on a different character about their first nights in Hell. This coincidentally happens to be right after the alley fight, but we won't get to see that in lots of details. Mostly, because that just be one big issue with nothing but hacking and slashing and Spike and Angel yelling watch out behind you to each other. It supposedly does feature some scenes from the fight though. Anyway, that's how Brian explained it.

it's worth a listen - there's a few interesting things in there. Including the fact that Spike knows that Connor is Angel's son. BL doesn't generally spoil in these things so i'm wondering if a) he just assumed that Spike would know about Connor after Origin or b) if how he finds out will be covered in 'First night' or will it jbe more how they teamed up.

there's no way i could do anything with that...we need EDB.

My first thought was Buffy, then, did the standing back a bit thing and still think she's quite Buffy-ish (or Dawnish, longshot i know and what possible purpose could she fulfil?) because of the way she is standing - it just reminds me of Buffy. I wouldn't mind if it was Cordy though, either would be cool.

My first reaction was Buffy, but Brian confirmed it's not Buffy on whedonesque.
I'm sort of annoyed frankly that we have to guess ;) I see the blonde also.. and Cordy was brown last time we saw her. I still really don't like Kate... but who knows who it is. Darla would be cool, but don't see her wearing jeans for some reason. Whoever it is.. it's big news if we're given a bloody blacked out image. grr

I'm getting curious about Dawn now, because she was in School in Italy at the time of Damage, but wound up going to Berkely which I believe is around San Fransisco somewhere. So if she catches a flight from Rome she could have gone first to LA which would allow her to be sucked into Hell with the Angel crew. Dawn has a brown leather jacket doesn't she?
Here's another possibility, but I doubt it - Anne.

I tried to make the mystery woman picture clearer too, but I didn't get much further than the others that have tried. I did notice one significant detail... namely that she has something in her hand. I think it's a gun. Which supports my theory that it's Kate Lockley. I also did a (amateur) wireframe version of the picture, to more clearly establish what kind of clothing she's wearing and what her pose is. If you look at the shoes, they're pretty big and not too feminine. They're certainly not heals. Would Cordy ever wear that?

As nice and lovely as it seems, and would be, I recall Fred's soul being destroyed. This totally cheapens the significance of her death- though this could change with context (read: reading), I just find it deplorable.

This is from First Night, which means Wesley is dead, and we saw what happened BEFORE, so this must be AFTER he passed.
Also, if you look at the backdrop of Wes and Fred kissing- what part of Los Angeles do you think that is? That's probably "where" Wesley "went" before the Senior Partners snatched him.
Seriously, if they have it that Fred's soul isn't either A) destroyed, as the told us it was or, B) infused with the essence of Illyria, then they're making unforgivable contanuity crimes.

Here's the covers for #8 and #9 both out in June
#8 Written by Joss Whedon and Brian Lynch, art by Tim Kale, David Messina and Mirco Pierfederici, covers by Messina and Brian Miller.
Angel ships bi-weekly in June! First up, Angel: After the Fall #8, concluding the stories of what happened to Angel's friends and family during their first night in hell. In this issue: Gwen begins to fulfill her destiny, Gunn begins his journey down the darkest path imaginable, and LA's citizens deal with being cast into Hell.

#9 Written by Joss Whedon and Brian Lynch, art by Nick Runge, covers by Runge and Alex Garner.
The second of two Angel issues arrives this month, and it brings with it a new artist, Nick Runge (artist on the "First Night" Wesley story). The gang's all here as the forces of evil attack from all sides. But Angel's not just fighting for his own life, the fate of someone he never thought he'd see again hangs in the balance.

Did anyone also see this one? I'm assuming it's a TPB. But what does it collect?!
Written by Joss Whedon and Brian Lynch, art and cover by Franco Urru.
In Angel's final television season, his world endedŠ but his story didn't. Now, IDW Publishing is presents the story of Angel: After the Fall, as presided over by Angel co-creator Joss Whedon, along with his hand-picked creative team, Brian Lynch and Franco Urru. Picking up where Season Five of the fan-favorite TV show left off, this hardcover edition looks at who lived after that climactic battle, who died, and what happened to all of Los Angeles in its wake. Features an art gallery from acclaimed artists Tony Harris, Andrew Robinson, and Urru.
192 pages, $24.99.

That hardcover is huge. I'd guess it's packed with reprints of covers and...whatever else...?

Since most issues seems to be 23 pages, it could be that they're planning on having this TPB collected Issues 1-8 (so including First Night) although that makes little sense.

They better come up with some amazing cohesion, and quick, because ATF is all over the place.
Here's the covers for #8 and #9 both out in June

Is anyone else confused about the numbering? So #5 is about to come out.. then is it 6 and 7 are FirstNight along with 8?
Edit:
This makes me think that Wesley was called into the boss' office...

OK, I'm not a big fan of the A:AtF covers up until now, but that Angel and the Dragon headshot one is not bad at all, and this new one for # 10, even I have to say...Wow!

Honestly, I was starting to dread the slog through this series (that you couldn't not read), but the art's looking so dang promising now, inside and out. Yay Alex Garner!

On the Angel cover, am I imagining things, or are there 2 dragons? One above Angel, and one just over his left shoulder.

There are definitely two winged somethings there. They're so far in the background. Not sure.

I see no dragons or winged creatures of any kind on that cover...
and it looks like Angel is breathing in Illyria's essence o_O

Those are two winged creatures that much is certain. But If you compared their size to the size of the windows on the sky-scrapers, I'd have to say that they're not much bigger than humans, possibly even smaller.
And yes, Alex Garner is Angel's Jo Chen.

I don't know if you can really call these spoilers, because issues 6 came out today (officially, though many of us won't get it till tomorrow or even later). Any way Chris Ryall posted preview pages of issue 6 yesterday. They're pretty interesting, because they're not finished yet. It gives you an idea what goes in to making a comic.

Chris Ryall posted another preview page, this one for issue 9 (page 16). It's the first post-FN preview. He commented about this page that
[This issue] will have special meaning to anyone who's familiar with Brian Lynch's pre-IDW comics work.
I think that the guy in the Burge-shirt is supposed to be Nikel 7 and the ginger-guy is called The Geek. They're characters from the Angry Naked Pat series.

Ryall released the cover for issue 9, and I nearly died then from being so completely content with the world. This, + issue 10's cover are straight killing it.

Some new info here from Brian's new blog
1. Betta George makes a fairly Earth-Shattering discovery in issue 10.
2. Angel gets a new yet oddly familiar nickname in issue 9.
3. Connor reveals a whole hell of a lot to Angel in issue 9.
4. We find out who turned Gunn in issue 8.
5. Nick Runge handles the art for issue 10, save for 2 pages, which have to do be done in a different style for story purposes.
6. Death is coming.

Thanks!
I saw those earlier.
The two taken together kinda gives the impression that Angel is finally taking that long deserved permanent dirt-nap.
But... it's not the last issue of the series so I suspect that it has something to do with the human pretending to be a vampire aspect.
I'm still curious as to what that whole human-now storyline is about anyway.

There appears to be some additional information from Bryan Lynch:
The cover is more symbolic. At no point do Connor, Fred and Spike gather 'round a grave in the woods. But what it's "saying", that's pretty spot-on.

Some more spoilers and a little bit of news for A:AtF from a blog-post by Brian.
Nick Runge will not be doing any more interior art after issue 11. He will still be providing the covers. Stephen Mooney will be doing the art for issues 12-16.
Franco Urru does one of the covers for issue 15.

I'm from Australia (Brisbane) and have had no problems getting it - you should probably order it from your comic shop, i've noticed that it sells out fast and that they (the comic shops) probably don't order as many copies as they do with other titles. Do try and get it (and Spike: After the Fall) because it totally rocks!
