View Full Version : Reminder
Buffy Summers

Just wanted to remind everyone of a few things to keep in mind while posting.
- This isn't a chat room, so things like capitalization, spelling, and complete sentences do matter. Run your post through a spell checker if you have to and remember, no kewl talk.
- Please be sure to search for existing threads on your topic before starting a new one.
- Please read forum descriptions before posting.
All these things really help the staff out and give them more time to plan activities and such, rather than editing threads. Thanks :)

You clean up very well; I hardly ever see spam. I've seen forums that get spammed so much, the mods could be deleting things all day. It's nice to find a place like this on the internet where almost every post is relevant to the thread.

Thanks for that...we aim to please. It helps that we have a pretty good bunch of members for the most part, so compliments right back to you all :)

Mr P, you are indeed welcome!!!
Edit:
Buffy Summers agrees: He wasn't talking about you BOTD :p
Like an Ice Dagger through my hot red blooded heart is that comment.
I've done my utmost recently to be pleasant. You want me to revert to my old ways?
Trust me, there are plenty of posts/posters that could do with Dia DeLa Muerte coming back!!!

I just want to remind people once more about their posting.
Remember guys this is a forum not a chat room. So please refrain from using 'kewl' talk. Like Tara said, it's depressing seeing the English language so horribly abused!
Capitalisation matters! do not let anyone tell you differently. Keep it in mind for EVERY post.
If you haven't already noticed, this place is HUGE. So if you are starting a thread please do a forum-wide search first. Chances are someone has already started a thread for your topic.
Also, when starting a thread make sure you are in the right place. If you are unsure ask a mod, we're happy to help.
Happy Posting Folks:)

When you are sending people karma is it okay to use kewl talk and capatilize things? I do tend to do that sometimes when I think something is funny I rep. them saying LOL! or something to that affect. If not then I will stop right now cold turkey I swear.

No that is fine once it doesn't devolve into something like..
...OMG dats so tru! i h8 spuffy 2!Bangel was da bst cpl eva! lol...
Edit:
VisionGuy agrees: UGH! That post just gave me a headache.
Then it did it's job:) it's exactly THAT kind of thing we do not want because as VG has so kindly shown, it literally hurts having to read crap like that.

Actually it gave me a headache because it said Bangel was the best couple ever.
Anyway, kewl talk is not cool. So please don't use it. It is physically painful having to decipher stuff like that. We don't want to have to get a Dulac Cross just to crack somebody's post.

Yeah reading too much of the "kewl talk" really does give me a headache. are we allowed to say "lol" though? I'm asking because I know that I say it a lot.

To emphasize the whole kewl talk thing I would just like to say that English is not my native language so if I read anything I tend to pick it up and use it because I'm clueless if it's right or wrong. And I know I'm not the only non-English person here so please keep the kewl talk down for the sake of us English learners, or do you want all of us to walk around, not being able to form gramatically correct sentences? ;)

Thank gosh someone brought this up. I can't stomach that kind of 'kewl' talk. It's mind numbing.

I have to say, maybe it's just the threads that I tend to look at, but I haven't seen that much 'kewl' (or kwl, if you want to be really irritating) talk around.
I have to admit I do occasionally capitalise words in order to get my point across (rather like shouting), and I say 'cuz' very occasionally (it's bad habit because I do tend to write like I speak, and if my mind is in overdrive, just as when I'm speaking, I drop the 'be' part of the word for speed). I do occasionally use 'lol' as well (not often though), but if any of these things are abhorrent to you, just let me know and I'll do my best to stop. :)
[Oh and, sorry if it does irritate people :( ]

I think the main problems are people completely ignoring their spelling or typing skills and not fixing errors so their posts are completely unreadable. I haven't noticed a lot of "kewl" stuff other than LOL or ROTFL, neither of which bother me.

You wouldn't notice the Kewl talk around here, cuz it's not aloud and we'll usually edited it in the threads if people use it.
Do things like lol and ROTFL count as Kewl talk, it's more Internet speak, and im pretty sure it's ok!

Yeah I think that stuff is pretty ok, it's when txt speak sneaks it's way that we have problems.

I don't mind lol at all. And I am glad there hasn't been too much of 'kewl' talk because it really is hard to read. I like how clean the boards are kept.

I don't like that cool talk nonsense(it seems there is a but of Giles in all of us :)), and if any of you guys spot me using it than please let me know, I sometimes catch myself using it and quickly fix it.
I'm usually pretty annoyed by butchery of the english language, yet when the Buffy writers do so somehow feels natural and not in the slightest bit annoying, not so much like butchery but more a quirky evolution, thats strange to me.

Ah, sorry guys, I don't think i have used capitalisation on the internet since I was still swearing that I would marry Taylor Hanson! I guess if I have to though I'll just have to get used to it! I guess I manage to do it for other purposes, so... here I go with changing the habit of a lifetime. I think I'm generally pretty good with grammar and spelling and so forth, but let me know if my articulation is disgusting people!

Using capitalization for emphasis is perfectly fine. We're talking about typing your whole post in capital letters, which reads like shouting to a lot of people.
For example:
It is her DETERMINATION that keeps Buffy going despite all that has happened to her.
is fine.
This:
IT IS HER DETERMINATION THAT KEEPS BUFFY GOING DESPITE ALL THAT HAS HAPPENED TO HER.
is not.

- Please read forum descriptions before posting.
All these things really help the staff out and give them more time to plan activities and such, rather than editing threads. Thanks :)
