How do you see their friendships this season? I thought this season was redeeming their friendship slowly but beautifully, especially Buffy and Xander.

Willow and Buffy: It started with Buffy still doubting Willow's loyalty, and Willow didn't blame her, in fact, she thought Buffy did the right thing not trusting her fully. Willow helped taking care of Dawn when Buffy wasn't around (reminds of Dawn's comment about Willow being like a mom to her). Willow understood why Buffy had to be harsh in Get It Done and stood up for Buffy. Then we have Buffy who tried her best not to pressure Willow into using magic when she felt she wasn't ready, then finally praising her in front of everybody to be the strongest woman among them. While Buffy and Willow weren't the same close friends they used to be in the first five seasons, I'd say their friendship was much more redeemed than how it was in S6.

Willow and Xander: These two drifted apart so much after their were caught cheating by Oz and Cordelia. They'll always know each other more than anyone will. Season 7 show a Xander who was willing to take Willow back easily (dismissing Buffy and Dawn's doubts), someone walking his friend to her girlfriend's grave, saving Willow again from losing herself to darkness, and getting Willow out of the circle in Get It Done. Willow for her part, left everything to be by Xander's side in the hospital. In Chosen, Xander and Willow walk toward the others while hugging.

Buffy and Xander: This one improved A LOT. Xander and Buffy played the roles of father and mother to Dawn throughout season 7. When knowing that Buffy was hiding Spike's return from them, unlike Dawn, Xander showed understanding and didn't lash out like he would have done in S3. Xander's improved behavior toward Spike, sympathizing with Buffy when Spike was kidnapped, demanding that Buffy must take him with her to get the new potential, standing up against the potentials when they doubted Buffy, giving a rousing speech about how amazing she was, agreeing to take Dawn and leave: all show moments that show how much he loved Buffy. Buffy for her part trusted no one but Xander to take care of Dawn. Xander was the only of the core four that Buffy held hands with, squeezed his and while staring at his face, told him she trusted him with her life. All moments that show how much Buffy trusted him.

I agree with you. Their friendship was the closest to friendships in RL. How they drifted after high school, how growing up, having their own lives had also saparated them, but in the end when it mattered, they're always there for each other. :)

yeah i loved the refrence back to the harvest... with giles saying a similar line. "the earth is doomed"... "the earth is definatley doomed"

really nice to see the camera circling on the core scoobies at the end of 'chosen'

Buffy-Will-Xand, I also consider them to be one of the best TV friends. And quite realistic.

Truly, they are also my favourite friendship on TV.That's why it was painful for me to watch the fight between Buffy and Dark Willow in S6. But although some issues were cleared in S7, I still feel that they were not together enough during the season. That is one issue I have with this season. There was not enough Scoobies because of the potentials. It's a small matter but I felt that Willow, Xander and Giles should have been with Buffy more. I'm not explaining this well but I hope you know what I mean.

I'm glad that it turned out that way. Because it seems more natural to me for people, when they grow up. When people get older, friendships tend to either end or change. People might still remain friends, but they don't wrap their lives around each other, to the detriment of forging their own lives.

I don't believe in the adage that everything has to remain the same.

Things will never be the same, no doubt about that, feelings change over time. It's so nicely done in S8, Buffy being in the outs with Giles and Willow, yet her friendship with Xander is growing strong. Opposite from earlier seasons where she was closer to Giles and Willow than Xander.
