I have about 5 or 6 episodes left to watch of Season 4, but so far I'm really disappointed. This season is just blah. I'm not feeling the whole "Initiative" thing, or Riley, or Adam as the big bad. He's so not interesting. The first 3 seasons were amazing, and I'm sad that I haven't been able to get into this season like I did those. I guess I'm wondering if its going to get better from here. I hope season 5 is much better! I am looking forward to more Spike, as he's really growing on me. I think my fave episode of this season so far was "Something Blue" Spike & Buffy was very funny.

I feel the same about S4. It was just kind of "there". There were a couple of individual episodes that I enjoyed, but I never really got into it over all.

Season 4 is definitely different. Everyone is going out into the world and trying to find a place in the world. I loved Spike this season slot, aswell as Buffy' struggle. The freshman all be it a very sad and feel sorrow for Buffy episodes it is a favorite of mine. I felt sorry for her and wished I could have knocked out everyone who hurt her. The rest of the season we got to see the beginnings of my favorite relationship. But at the same time we witnessed the end of my previous favorite relationship, the wonder that was willow and I'd. But all of those episodes were great tv. This season I feel is a very good season. It wasn't the best, maybe even the worst, but I loved it.

season 4 started off good for me before the initiative became really central. theres a few fav episodes in there "Fear Itself", "Pangs", even "The Yoko Factor" because i think the fight is hysterical. And of course, "Restless". but overall arc wise, yeah, not so great.

Yeah some of my favourite episode ever are in season 4, I just don't like the arc (or Riley on first viewing). Years after watching it when it first aired, I think it has some of the best stand-alones out of the series.
Episodes that jump at me right now are.. The Freshman.. Living Conditions... Fear Itself.. Beer Bad (the last scene).. Pangs.. Something Blue.. Hush.. A New Man.. This Years Girl.. Restless.. Heh, almost half the season ;)

I did enjoy the end of "Beer Bad" when Buffy smacked that doofus Parker on the head & Pangs was ok. I did also like the episode with Giles becoming a demon, and there are some moments in the other episodes that I liked, but just as a whole I'm not digging this season. The more they show Riley, the less I like him, he is such a dork.

Season 4 grew on me, i didnt like it so much at first but after watching the whole series (over and over again!) I did enjoy it. The stand alone eps are fantastic! I love Restless and Something Blue. And Hush, that was fantastic!

The overall story arc 't all that good, IMO. But some of the stand alone episodes were the best of the series [Hush, Something Blue, Restless, etc].

Season 5 is much better, don't worry!! It's my favorite!

Season 4 has always been my least favourite season, like other people have said I didnt like the season arc with the Initiative and Adam etc. I've never liked Riley either. Season 5 is definitely better!

Well, I finished Season 4 today. I was hoping they'd kill off Riley :P but no such luck. I did enjoy the little cameo from Angel & I'm just glad the whole Initiation thing is done. The last episode was really different & pretty cool. Better than the Adam stuff!!

Lol I've only watched S4 once and I felt pretty much exactly the same way you did. A few episodes were great, like Hush, but for the most part it wasn't that enjoyable for me to go through. Also, I don't get why everyone liked Restless as much as they did, I thought it was sort of weird...then again I'm going through Buffy for the 1st time, maybe some of the foreshadowing and stuff will make sense if I rewatch it.

I personally think once S5 gets going it is right up there with the early years in terms of quality, towards the end I couldn't wait to see the next episode.

season 5 is pretty good, save for the actual major glory arc. i really thought she was a boring big bad.

I think season 4 now is miles better then season 6.. but it's a pretty personal thing.
Are you watching Angel as well babyoOogirl? You like like a bangel so you should definately have a look at Angel season 1 for the Buffy crossovers which link with season 4.

I quite like season four Buffy in that it really captures the reality of that first year out of high school. I remember it being just like that (no, not with the demons or covert military organisation) with me and my friends all wanting to stay friends but all having our own oh-so-important and interesting new lives going on too. Season four captures that situation perfectly. I also think that season four improves on the re-viewing. I watched it just a couple of weeks ago for the i-don't-knowth (a lot) time and i find it really great - better than most things on telly at the moment anyway. And Restless, well it is just amazing and so unbelievaly clever!!!!

Forrest - I think he was secretly in love with riley to be honest haha
Lack of drusilla :(
The jonathon episode
The pointlessness of some things during the season like the nightmares ect

I just got all of the Angel series, and I'm going to start watching them soon. I'm waiting on my Season 5, 6, & 7 of Buffy right now too. I did watch one of the crossovers (I will Remember You) and it was sooo good :D I also liked that Oz came back at the end of Season 4, I love him & Willow. I'm not sure if I like Tara yet, she's a little weird. Why did she mess up that one spell that Willow was trying to do??

Tara is what made the series uber-fabulous for me ...i don't know if your question is rethorical but if you want to know pm me and ask and i will tell

The first time I watched it, I found it suckish, but it grew on me...Not literally, 'cause that gives me weird visuals :lmao: Anyway, back to the point, I don't like Adam, I don't like Riley, but there are some really strong and important episodes in that season, so it needed to go that way, okay it didn't 'need' all of those things to happen, but, hey, every episode can't be awesome, right...?

I'm not sure if I want to really know yet, does it get explained later on in the series?

Yeah, it's explained in season five, to be honest, it'll probably spoil the episode 'Family' if you find out now :)

You'll find out later. I also found that I liked Tara's character and her relationship with Willow a lot more on re-viewings.

I don't dislike Tara, but I really liked Oz and the Willow/Oz relationship, so I have to get used to Tara with Willow.

yeah, i gotta agree with most ppl on this season... overall it wasnt so good, but a few of the episodes were an exception. i also couldnt get into the whole initiative thing... i dunno, it just seemed to fake for me lol. season 5 is better, but i personally didnt view buffy the same way after season 3, it was still a good show, just that, i didnt have that feeling i had had when i first starting watching buffy.

I agree, seaseon 4 wasn't the best. I like Spike but I think he didn't really fit in. There should have been more of Xander and Anya who are hilarious. I didn't like the whole Riley and initiative thing, it was all a bit OTT. There were some really good episodes though like, Restless,Hush, Who are you and A new man.

I loved this season, i think its in the top 3, the Initiative wasnt as good as Angelus or faith but its still good.
But the stand alones(along with s3) are the best in the buffyverse ever. And i think this was one of the best seasons(like s2) for
the characters and their performances

I think I agree with the general opinion of the majority of the posters here. There were some really awesome episodes (even the "Beer Bad" which I heard from my friends when I was watching before I joined this board is loathed among Buffy fans because of douchey Parker... mostly because I love that Willow didn't fall for his crap), but I didn't dig the Initiative as a whole. "Hush" gave me some nightmares the night after I first saw it. Yeesh. I think I'd go with my favourite being either 5 or 6 (I dig them both a lot) and then 2 or 3. Not really sure what order I'd put 1, 4, and 7 in, but it looks like they're the bottom of the sack by default.
