First of all, I was pumped when I first heard this was getting made. Probably because I was enjoying Season 8 of Buffy so much. But when I eagerly cracked open the first issue of ATF, my happiness faded quickly.

The art is horrible. And I soon realized that the writing was horrible as well. I'm sorry folks, but this is NOT what I had in mind when I first heard about this series. What was Joss thinking.

Don't get me wrong, the basic plot is intriguing and holding my interest, probably because Joss himself is helping in that department, but I didn't feel I was actually reading the characters until half way through Issue 3.

Joss, you had a perfect set up with Season 8 of Buffy, why couldn't you have just mirrored that in season 6 of Angel. Hopefully it's not too late. get some of the TV show writers in to write an arc or two,(if they agreed to work on Buffy, I'm sure they'd all LOVE to have another crack at Angel as well) change up the artists now and then so that the characters LOOK like they did on the show. SOMETHING has got to change.

With that said, I will continue to buy the series, in the hopes that it improves. Like I stated, the plotline itself is holding my attention.

I felt the same as you when I first started reading it. Now that we are about to hit the 4th installment, I'm a bit more excited than I was. Crazy things are happening and I'm curious to see how it plays out. It's took the 3rd issue to get me hooked and convince me that things are picking up, which they seem to be.

I've been there too. But surprisingly issue 3 was an improvement over the first two. I hope they keep getting better.

I've only read the first one. Kind of got turned off and didn't bother to buy/read the rest of them.

I'm loving it, but then i don't mind the art - the people who aren't that keen don't seem to like the artwork. The story is getting really good too - #3 was brilliant, one of the best single comics i've ever read.

I can see where some of the criticism comes from, but I think that if you keep in mind that this is set some months after NFA and that all this time these characters have been in Hell, you can allow for some minor discrepancies between how we left the characters and how we find them now. I think that given the fact the plot is covered in so much mystery you can't really judge it completely until you re-read it knowing what's really going on.

I agree that the general plot of Season 6 seems to be something of a letdown, and as for the art, neither the artists on Angel, Buffy, or any of the other current titles that I have looked at since my interest in comic books has been somewhat re-awakened, can hold a candle to the artists that I remember from the 70's and 80's such as the Romita brothers. The art then seemed more...smooth, for want of a better word, bright and detailed. The art today just seems too dark and angular for my taste.

I was right mad getting into it. Didn't like the cover art was the reason. I got em, and I loved the feel of the comics right away. Started reading. Took some getting used to and now I love it. not quite like Buffy but it's not far behind.

I pretty much agree with all the responses. I was disappointed at first, but apart from the issues being so short it isn't too bad. And plus, it's Angel, I need to know what happens.
