The Third Annual Buffy Boards Award Ceremony Thread

This is where we'll be opening the BB virtual arena for this year's "Buffies". I'll be kicking things off in just over two and a half hours.

This year I'm imagining the arena as being like Birmingham Town Hall...the venue of my first rock concert in 1974 (it was Mick Ronson btw - Bowie's guitarist in The Spiders from Mars - his first solo tour) and also where my graduation ceremony took place :)

GATEGOD slowly walks up the staircase towards where Emma is getting ready. As he comes to the top he can hear her fiddling around in the bedroom. Smiling he gives the door two low knocks and enters to find what can only be described as heaven on Earth.

"Woah" his mouth drops as she turns to face him. "Woah..."

"What?" she smiles coyfully and blushes.

"You look so beautiful." he tries to look away but when he meets her gaze he can't. He stares into her wondrously lit eyes and walks forward. "You truly will be the prettiest girl there baby."

She lets out a cute little sigh and dawns her beautiful smile again."Yea, tell that to my hairdryer!"

"Hairdryer, keep doing what your doing! She's the picture of beauty in my eyes."

They both laugh. There is plenty of time left to get ready.

I did write something which resembles a speech, it's basically a suckish ramble, but here goes...

When I got the message saying I’d won an award, I was shocked…I’d lie and say I was stunned to silence, but actually I yelped and freaked out everyone in my house…but next came the stunned to silence…I spent almost three hours in my room trying to come up with an acceptance speech…And I couldn’t come up with anything. I’m not used to this type of thing…All I can say is…Thank You. I never expected anything, I mean, I know I can be ‘annoying’…Pretty much all of the time :D So I’m flattered that I’d get an award…And for being cute…do you people know me? –laughs- But really, thank you, all, when I read I was getting this, I actually did cry, after, and I just, feel like I’m finally apart of something, expanding on that, what I mean, is I’ve never gone to a club or anything like that, and within my circle of friends, I’m an outsider, I’ve never felt part of anything. My Granddad, who was my best friend, past away, when I was 4 or 5, and you’d think me being so young it didn’t affect me, but it does, always. I was the last person to see him before he died, and I never let myself open up to people because of it. You’re probably wondering why I’m saying this in my acceptance speech? Well, the last thing I said basically proves a whole lot about how I feel about this place, you people…I’ve come to feel like this is the place where I belong. I’ve never felt that way before, and this award…it makes me feel special, I’ve never before felt special, not in about nine years, not since my Granddad went, and now, I feel it ago, and I know most of it is because of you guys at the BB, thank you for making me feel that way =]

Palabra, who is seated by her adopted Buffy Boards family, wipes a little tear from her eye over that last speech. It was too cute. L'il Pumkin Belly, indeed. That was an award well earned.

James, for the record, agrees.

Palabra and James are having a wonderful time together. They look all pretty and shiny, especially since she's finally wearing that sparkly little black number that sits in the back of her closet. Turns out, they both like to talk and joke and laugh, hence the good timeness.

Of course, Palabra still makes mean eyes at her brain sharing, date poaching friend across the room. Okay, maybe not mean... cuz Palabra's not really mean... so maybe just jealous. Mildly jealous.

Anyway, Palabra waves across the room to assorted Buffy Board friends.

"These awards are a blast!" she says.

Greetings from Ireland!( I feel like Terry Wogan at Eurovision!) Before we get on to the main event I would just like to congratulate all those who were nominated and especially the winners. It has been a great year in the land of BB (ok so three months for moi but work with me here people!).

And now Ladies and Gents, why I am here tonight? To present the Andrew Award to the BB RPGer of the year. Personally I have been blown away by the quality of the writing on display. Energetic, Enthralling, Engaging...anybody got another E-word? No? Ok point is, our members got skills yo! and I think that is especially true of our three nominees. A trinity of rpg writing genuis!

Commiserations to Lyri and Mesektet Ra, your work has been astonishing! But a huge congratulations to PV...I cannot praise you more than I already have. Your writing is inspired!.

Here's a little snippet of PV's work.
Xander had wanted to figure out the mission on the plane, but the team was completely and utterly wiped. Faith was asleep – and judging by her oh-so-very-kind request for him to zip his trap, she wasn’t in any mood to wake up and get some work done. Spike wasn’t asleep, but he wasn’t exactly big strategy guy, either. The Finns, the new slayers, and even Dawnie all joined the sleepier-than-thou club as soon as the scoobies reached cruising altitude.

:: Defeated, Xander sighed and strapped in for the ride. ::

That’s fine. Shut eye is of the good. We can plan the mission later – like after we’re attacked on the tarmac, as per usual with you punch first, ask later types.

:: Xander reclined and settled against the head rest. ::

Don’t drool. Don’t snore. Don’t drool. Don’t snore.

:: Of course, it wasn’t really drooling or snoring that he had to worry about. It was talking. Anya had always said he talked in his sleep. And there were things he just didn’t want the people on board to know. ::

This time, in this dream, Anya was a stewardess. She stood in the front of the plane in blue eye shadow and that tight stewardess uniform she’d worn for him a few nights before the wedding that wasn’t. She forced a too-wide smile and a falsely chipper tone to her voice, lifted the safety instruction pamphlet, and then she spoke into a little intercom device thingie that seemed to materialize out of nowhere.

This involves juggling goslings, as all virtual happy dances performed in the Jossverse should. Fortunately, this passes without any wardrobe or gosling malfunctions, and she takes the mike. She clears her throat. ::

To Buffy Boards: "Thank you so much! I'm new to the Buffy Boards and to RPGs in general. I'm even kind of new to Buffy. I'm so glad I found Buffy, the boards, and the RPG. You guys all bring a smile to face every day. Even on bad days or busy days, I look forward to taking a few minutes to pop onto the Buffy Boards and "talk" to you guys or send Xander or Indra on some fun new adventure."

:: Palabra takes a reporter's notebook out of her purse. She flips it open. She puts on her glasses and peers intently at her own indecipherable chicken scratch. ::

:: Palabra clears her throat again and slaps on a smile, which isn't hard because she's giddy with excitement. ::

"Mr. Pointy asked me to remind everyone to please wait for the commercial breaks to post."

Looking into the camera, she pauses before continuing.

"And now the nominees for the Doyle Award for most missed member..."

Buffy looks offstage where Mr. Pointy shouts something in a low grumble peppered with profanity.

"Oh we're not announcing the nominees on this one? Oh okay, right. Well then..."

She tears open the envelope. Buffy composed herself and smiles again.

"It is my great pleasure to present this award to a very important part of this site, and a member which I personally have missed very much this year. The one, and (thank god) the only, Faith."

She applauds as she waits for Faith to come to the stage to accept her award.

Firstly thank you to everyone who nominated me and who voted for me. Its been an honor and a privilege to know you all and work with you (for those on the other side). I remember the first launch of the boards, also running up my hall to tell my flat mate that I had been asked to become a Mod. Buffy Boards isn’t just a place I ‘used to post’, its part of my heart and my spirit. When I had to step down it was the hardest decision I had to make and I’ve come and gone on a lot of boards over the years but this is one community that really cares about each other and the one place I can never fully let go.

:: wipes a tear, getting nostalgic for a moment ::

I’m proud to have seen edb’s progression from her first ever banner to where she is now, and witness Buffy Summers becoming the great leader she is today!

I’ve made some great friends who I know will be friends for life. Sadly my work has kept me off the boards for a while, how I managed a degree and a job and still be up until 3am working behind the scenes I’ll never know.

There is so much I could share with you about my time on the boards, the times you have made me laugh and those that have left me cursing at my pc and tearing my hair out. However the contract I signed in blood when I joined the staff prevents me from doing so!

In memory of Doyle and this award I would like to dedicate this award to my greatly missed friend Foos and the member I miss the most Grayson.

Joyce Summers sat in the living room, marveling at how entirely quiet the house was for once. Both Dawn and Buffy were staying at their Dad's for the weekend. Dawn had been excited, but Buffy was extremely reluctant. Hank had hardly been in their lives for a while now, only very occasionally calling up claiming he wanted a father/daughter weekend (usually, Joyce had figured out, when he had broke up with his most recent secretary). Dawn was always delighted by this announcement but as she had got older, Buffy had become less and less enthused, developing a cynicism about her Father that eldest siblings from divorced families tended to develop.
And so, Joyce had the house to herself. Which had been wonderful the first few hours...and then it got lonely. Sure she may constantly complain about the noise and the mess her daughters made, but when they weren't here...the house just didn't feel the same. No matter how much she claimed to need time to herself, she always missed them when they were gone. Always.

To make the emptiness of the house even more noticeable, when the girls were away none of the others ever stopped by, almost as though forgetting she were still there. Not that it was surprising. After all, she wasn't one of their...what was it she had heard call Dawn call it? The Scoobies, that was it. She wasn't one of those, so it wasn't surprising that when Buffy wasn't here they chose not to stop by. Occasionally Xander would come over for a few hours with mostly homemade food on his mind, but nevertheless she was always glad to see him, and even more occasionally Rupert would stop by, perhaps in desperate need of some adult conversation which, being the mother of two young daughters, was a need Joyce could understand.

So when their was a knock at the door, Joyce immediately presumed it was one of these two, so she didn't even bother to look out the window before she pulled open the front door.

However, it was neither Rupert nor Xander stood there. Not even Anya or Willow, which it very, very occasionally sometimes was but instead was a petite blond girl, wearing jeans and a red top. Looking very normal, very average, but for some reason she struck Joyce with a feeling of familiarity. Blinking the low, almost-set sun out of her eyes, she tried to focus on the girl seeing if some recognition would come to her. It didn't.

“Hello,” Joyce greeted her, but her own puzzlement spoke in the word and it came out more of a question.

Well done honey...do you want to come up and say a few words?

Well, basically just wow and thank you. And thank you and wow.

I just completely wasn't expecting this which just makes it oh so much more the better and the wow-creating. I'm just really thankful and happy that I got this award, and that you guys voted me. (If this is indeed a democracy and not a dictatorship as sometimes rumored....hehe) It means a lot that not only did you guys read my rambly fic, but you actually liked it too. So yes, basically just thank you and well, I guess that's it. :smiles: So just thank you again and I'm going to graciously walk away before I ramble myself into an embarrassing situation.....

Thank you very much my fellow Buffy/Angel/Firefly lovers for this great honor! I still mean what I said in a previous post: “its an honor to be nominated.” I can’t say enough about all the people that were nominated for the Giles award. Everyone is awesome and I am glad to know them all!

Winning the Giles award is truly an honor because Giles is my idol. He is smart, loyal and in his youth he was a rebel (just like I was). Heck, I created my user name with Giles as its foundation!

Anyway, I’m so happy to have found the boards because I have met so many wonderful people here. I love you all very much. Thank you for becoming part of my life and thank you again for the Giles Award!

The House cup goes to the house that has been most successful in the Interdorm competitions. You could also have received points from Mods, who would award these through Karma, usually 5 points would be given out, but to celebrate the Birth of the Fantastic Buffy-Boards I have bumped this up to 20 points for each karma given out by a mod to other members for helping out the boards in some way.
