i dont know if you guys already mentioned this? well, anyways, a few days ago i was watching chosen and i watched it with the commentary for the first time.... and i really dont understand why joss said that he thought parker was buffy's most important relationship, or something like that (i saw this a few days ago and dont remember the exact words :S).... i mean, i kinda understand his point, in the sense that those kinds of 'relationships' (if we can call them that) do happen, and all ... but at the same time i dont understand why he would say that lol.... i dont know how to explain it (i have a hard time explaining my thoughts lol :| ) ill have to watch and see what his exact words were, but meanwhile, did anyone else watch the episode with his commentary? and if so, what did you think?

Yeah I got the impression that he was joking around, because he can't really take sides on the spuffy v bangel thing. And he was saying that he thought most people prefer Bangel so he thought the scenes they had were important, but his personal favourite was Parker. Don't have the precise words though. Parker was important for smaller reasons to me though because you generally go through that kind of brief and jilting relationship at some point.

I think Parker being her one night stand was the thing that soured her on the "all out, no holds barred, throw everything you have into it," sort of relationship, and, let's face it, she really did throw herself at the scum sucking pig there for a few episodes. It led her to hold back that least little bit of herself if you believed Riley, and took her so long to seriously mention the "L" word to Spike.

Can you let me know which episode commentary you were watching. Perhaps I've missed this, because I don't remember hearing it.
Or maybe it's just way too early in the morning for my brain to work yet! :)

yeah i think maybe parker was important because it made her question her ability to have a normal loving relationship and to even trust?

I think Joss was joking and trying not to take sides.
Even so, I *do* think Parker was important. He was the only one of Buffy's relationships that wasn't all about Buffy and her weird little calling. Nope. Parker was just a normal guy who was all about himself. Buffy was just a means to an end. THAT was the relationship in which Buffy finally got to be a normal girl like she aways wanted. She was nothing special to Parker, just Buffy. And it wasn't all it was cracked up to be, either. lol.

LOL, yeah!! He probably was joking around. I can see why Parker has his importance in Buffy's life, just I dont think he was THAT important, or I didnt until I read a few of the responses here. I now realize something I didnt before =)
