I was watching After Life a few minutes ago and I saw this part and just thought that this was really clever camera work by Joss and his crew. It kind of foreshadows Buffy's being in heaven and all that. Just thought I would share this with you all.

When Buffy walks past the Angel statue, and it looks like she has wings? Yeah it is nice.

Yea I kind of sensed that too when I watched the episode, I should re-watch it, I have Seasons 3, 5, 6 and 7... I didn't like season 4, I want season 2... and I had season 1 but sold it 'cause I wasn't that crazy about it anyways, so yea, I should definitely watch that episode again for that scene. Also at the end when she talks to Spike about how they can never know, I loved the lighting around there, and the outfit she wore, it really showed the theme of the situation. If that makes any sense!

It was probably a total coincidence :silly: But it is interesting.
i doubt it was coincidence. it's definitely something Joss would do completely on purpose to see if any of us fans could pick it up. we were just a little slow with this one, lol.
i love the symbolism of the pic. it remeinds us, now, that Buffy left her wings behind in Heaven.

I have to disagree with you Lyri.
I think that people look for foreshadowing too much.
By this point it was well into Joss that Buffy would die and i'm convinced he probably knew that she'd go to Heaven but this is probably just a really nice shot.
I applaud that you saw this, I'm just sorry that with all the forshadowing suggestions it gets boring.
I mean there is a scene in Welcome to the Hellmouth where Buffy smiles and thats a definite forshadowing of when Buffy is standing at the egde of Sunnydale in Chosen and smiles!!

I agree that it was most likely coincidence, then again with Joss you never know, lol. It was either perfect timing or really good coincidence.

As Faith once said "You think too much". haha
However since it is Joss, you can never discredit anything as coincidence. Then again, many times in interviews/commentaries he has gone 'Actually I never intended that but now that I think about it, it does look that way. So, yes, let's just say I did it on purpose' haha.
Either way, I like the shot and it is lovely symbolism

I think it was probably on purpose. At that point the creative team all knew that Buffy had been in heaven (it's mentioned in the DVD extras). So it seems a bit too weird.. Buffy walks around in graveyards all the time, and we've never seen this coincidence before.
It's not that easy to get the camera angle lined up just right so two objects look like they might be joined. Plus when this does happen we're actually taught in film school to look out for it (or at least I was), because it might end up looking stupid (like when it looks like the tall building in the background is coming out of someone's nose, etc).
Also this scene is a cut away that the editor could have easily left out, we didn't need to establish that Buffy was patrolling. I guess we'd need to see the shooting script to be sure.
Don't know why I typed so much about this, it's not really important ;)

Joss does certainly seem to enjoy leaving us questioning his intentions with his amazing projects like Buffy and Angel, and that's one of the reasons he's become a legend now a living legend, for Buffy and Angel alone. Okay aside the repeative (however that's spelled) portion I have a gut feeling that he added that as an after thought for the episode, that maybe during the filming it wasn't part of it originally then all of a sudden "IDEA" hits him as that usually happens with him and his amazing work, and that's how it happened... that's just my gut feeling though lol. I love the quote from the interview though, definitely something Joss would say, lol.
