Hi, I was wondering how many people here were fans of the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer?

OMG!! I'm in the middle of Twilight now! Stephenie is a genius!!!! I just started reading them not that long ago!

I like the first book quite a bit.

The couple is way better than Buffy/Angel, too. :)

I've bought the books, but I haven't started reading them yet.

I read the first one (so only Twilight) and didn't like it. Really, it starts out right, but then from a certain point onwards it's major kitsch. Now I have a friend who really likes the series and refers to the books as 'sooooooo romaaaaaaaaantic' but honestly, if that's romance I'm officialy not into that anymore. At all.

Just thought I'd revive this thread.

I love the Twilight books. One of my favorite book series...serieses? Oh, whatever. Anyway, yeah, Edward/Bella reminds me of Buffy/Angel a little bit, just because of the whole "forbidden romance" aspect (plus, they both pull off cliched romances really well.) And I don't know one girl who's read it and doesn't have a monstrous crush on Edward. I can't wait for Breaking Dawn, the next book in the series. It's supposed to be released August 8th.

I am, however, a little worried about the movie they're making out of it. I've read a few of the script sides, and they aren't making too many huge changes, but they threw in a few bits that are kind of 'out there' and there are a few instances where they throw in quotes from the book but don't put them in context, so they don't make much sense. Also, some of the casting has upset me...the Bella and Edward are just okay, especially because I still see Edward as Gaspard Ulliel. Carlisle and Jasper have the most fake blond hair ever and Esme and Rosalie are nowhere near as beautiful as they were described in the book, particularly Rosalie. I am a huge fan of their casting choices for Alice and Emmett, though! Let's just hope the acting and script are at least half-decent.

I like a lot of the casting. Kristen Stewart is definitely a hottie and I think I'll love her as Bela. I like the actor who plays Edward but I don't think he should have been cast as Edward.

I read that Nikki Reed will be playing the hot bitch vampire which I'm happy with, because Nikki Reed is very sexy. Yum.

Ugh, I know! Jacob needs to be a man...like Steven Strait.

I love this series. I get totally caught up in the Bella & Edward love story :)

I'm really not looking forward to a couple things though:

1. The movie. I hate movies based on books, because they always totally suck! I'm not impressed with any of the casting and I'm really nervous that they will change everything important.

2. Breaking Dawn (4th book, comes out August). I'm worried that Bella and Edward are not going to work out. I have this terribly bad feeling. I absolutely cannot stand Jacob, so I'm hoping that he won't end up breaking those two apart.

I LOVE THE TWILIGHT SERIES!
But still, even though I'm gonna see the movie for sure, I'm really disappointed with the cast. The Edward is pretty mediocre, and the Bella is way too skinny, and the only thing that fits the book's description of her is the brown hair and pale skin. And the Rosalie they chose is gorgeous and all, but she doesn't fit Rosalie too well. Ah, well...as long as they're all good actors, I can't complain.
And Bella's gonna be turned in the next book. I'm pretty sure Stephanie Meyer hinted it.

Well, Stephenie Meyer did say that Breaking Dawn will be a bit like A Midsummer Night's Dream in some aspects, and I just hope that doesn't mean they all wind up with the wrong people.

As for Jacob, I like him a lot as a character, but I cannot stand the thought of him and Bella together, mostly because I'm incredibly curious to see what special vampire power Bella would get (assuming she gets one, of course). I'm really hoping Jake finds a nice girl that's not Bella.

I've read the books... Nothing special. Too much of a cliche for my taste.

After having read The Vampire Chronicles, this saga seems a little... plain. The characters are one-dimensional and the plot is kind of silly.

While reading the books, I liked them but if you stop and think about it, there's nothing that great about them. Edward is a Gary Stu and the vampires are so not-like-vampires. I mean, c'mon, daylight?

And the Edward/Bella/Jacob thing? Totally forced. It seemed to me that she wanted to do something unexpected and it didn't work out.

I give them a 7/10... I just hope the ending won't be as stupid as Harry Potter's epilogue. If Bella ends up turned into a vampire and happily married, it will be the most obvious ending ever. I really hope Stephenie'll write something surprising... I want to be shocked.

Oh, you'll be hooked in no time!

Also, it's good to know there's some Kristen Stewart fans. I'm not a fan of her myself, but a friend of mine thinks she'll make a great Bella.

To be honest, I, like most fans, was stuck on the idea of Emily Browning or Ellen Page as Bella, and Kristen just sort of came out of nowhere. Of course, I'm not going to completely judge until I see her act...and who knows? She may grow on me. I hated the idea of Robert Pattinson as Edward at first, and now, even though he's certainly not my PERFECT Edward, I'm definitely starting to like him.

I think, unlike a lot of people, that Kristen Stewart makes a BETTER Bella than Emily Browning especially, and also Ellen Page. Stewart is not what people would think of as conventional beauty. Sure she's not ugly, but she's not Eliza Dushku either. I think she has that almost "plain jane" look to her that makes her better suited to play Bella.

I was disappointed in the choice for Edward. It wasn't because I think Robert Pattison is unable to play the role (because I'm sure he is), I just had my heart set on Gaspard Ulliel. As far as common sense was concerned, I knew the possibility of Ulliel playing the roll was slim to none, but that tiny little voice in me still died when Pattison was announced. Poor kid...

The casting of Jacob was the real killer. I think I would have even preferred Tyler Posey over Taylor Lautner. Although, if it was "KJ's dream movie", Steven Strait would have been Jacob, of course. Lautner, like the other actors, is probably going to be at least good in the movie, but I was hoping on chances to drool over Jacob. It would be weird now since he's like, jail bait. *sigh*

okay, i am totally, completely hooked! i think it is a little slow in the beginning, picks up when she meets edward and there are all the mysteries and stuff, but really hits its stride when they start hanging out more, and she knows the truth about him, etc. at least, thats how it was for me. there could have been other factors, and you guys might think differently. regardless, i must read on and find out how this ends! :D

I've read all three books, dying to see the movie, and can't wait for "Breaking Dawn" to come out. I think I'm pretty much a fan. And I'd hate to see Bella become a vampire, it would sort of ruin everything for me.

Ok if you don't know anything about what happens in the story, I think you'll love New Moon. A lot of it will be like "ah...what?!" It's really good. Eclipse (the third book) is my total favorite though. :)

I don't think Kristen Stewart is ugly or even plain, maybe I'm one of the only ones though. After seeing her in a couple of movies I think she's actually quite attractive.

Stephanie Meyer though, described Bela's situation as being similar to hers. When she lived in AZ or wherever, she would have been considered a '5', because all the 'hot girls' were the "fake" types with bleach blonde hair and tans and everything, but when she went to BYU for college she was considered more of an '8'.

So basically Bela's not really supposed to look unattractive or plain...just a different type of beauty.

Which I think makes Kristen perfect for the part. :)

Ooh, another Twilight fan! Awesome! By the way, New Moon isn't as good as the other two, but it's still great. The main problem is that it's seriously lacking something, and you'll find out who or what that is within the first few chapters. Eclipse is fantastic! It's my second favorite, and Twilight only beats it by the smallest margin.

By the way, Kryptonite, I agree. Gaspard will ALWAYS be my Edward, and I died a little inside when I found out he wasn't cast (even though I was well aware that there was almost no chance of him playing the part.) Thus, I have come to the simple conclusion that Robert is Movie!Edward and Gaspard is Book!Edward. Everyone knows Book!Edward is much, much hotter than any movie character could be.

By the way, for those of you who have yet to witness the wonder that is Gaspard, here he is:

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n14/infava/pictures/gaspward.jpg

I'm totally convinced that he's actually Edward Cullen, but he's just speaking French and not telling anyone.

And also, for those of you who haven't seen the first official picture of the Cullens, here it is:

None of them are really terrible, but the only ones that are genuinely great are Kellan (Emmett) and Ashley (Alice). Those two look exactly how I envisioned them!

Ah, I dunno, I read the first one 'Twilight' and I didn't think it was anything special, kind of an inferior Vampire Chronicle. I'll be intrigued to see how the film turns out though.

A lot of people I know had read and loved Twilight, so I thought I'd give it a shot. One of them seriously reads the book at least three times a month. So I think I ended up borrowing it from my English teacher and... I couldn't get past the first 150 pages. I thought it was awful. Nothing happened, and I love to read, but I'm of the persuasion that if I'm not into the story at all after such a portion of the book, there's no point in persuing it. It's one of only two books I've ever dropped with no intention of returning.

So, not a fan.

OMG! That was freakin awesome!

And from the trailer, at least it seems to be true to the book. Hopefully the rest of the movie is true to the book as well!

I'm not really feeling that guy who plays Edward though... it's just not what I envision in my head!

I seem to have the opposite idea that you do. From the trailer it doesn't seem a whole lot like the book. Bella doesn't realize that Edward stopped the van with his hands. She considers the idea but seems to write it off when she's in the hospital. Also, Emmett never seemed against the idea of Edward liking Bella. Plus, Edward doesn't jump out of a window when she says she's not afraid of him - that's when Alice teases about eating her.

I know their not going to be exactly the same but trying to stay a little similar would be nice. I'm sure I'll love the movie either way though.

Well, I did recognize the fact that the Cullens cannot fly... they just run fast. And it seemed as if Edward was flying when he and Bella went out the window.

With the Emmett thing, I always got the impression at the beginning of the book that the Cullens did not understand Edwards attraction and maybe didn't approve of it at first. It was never explicitly stated, but perhaps implicitly implied?

Regarding Emmett: I remember that in the book, he was sort of indifferent to it. Rosalie was the only Cullen who was really against it. I think they just wanted to give him something to do in the movie, since he was barely in the book. In fact, the only Cullens that had even remotely large roles in the first book were Edward and Alice.

And as for the jumping part, I think they were trying to copy the part where Edward jumps onto the couch with her, but wanted to make it tree-jumping so it was more visually exciting.

Well, I did recognize the fact that the Cullens cannot fly... they just run fast. And it seemed as if Edward was flying when he and Bella went out the window.

I think he was just jumping really far.

The movie looks okay. It's good that they're not straying way too far from the book, even though I'm sure there will be some major differences. To be honest, I'd see it if they decided to make the Cullens sock puppets. I've been waiting for this movie way too long to give up on it.

even though ive read the first book, i still avoid movie-spoilers like the plague :). ill see whats different when i see the movie, and a glimpse of it when the trailer starts airing on TV (no avoiding that except to stop watching all TV altogether. what crazy talk! :p). so very excited for the movie though!
